Transcript
00:00And now with Rochelle for more on tonight's weather forecast.
00:03Thanks, Deesha. Good evening, Trinidad and Tobago.
00:06Here's the 411 on your weather.
00:09Hurricane Melissa made Latin fall in Cuba this morning
00:12as an extremely dangerous Category 3 hurricane.
00:16The National Hurricane Center indicated that Cuba suffered significant damage.
00:21The storm brought 115 mph winds and heavy rain flooding streets,
00:26knocking down trees, breaking windows and doors.
00:30Damaging buildings and disconnecting parts of the country from the power grid.
00:35Around 140,000 people are cut off by rising river levels
00:39as the storm lashes the country and is now passing through the Bahamas
00:44as a Category 1 hurricane.
00:47Yesterday, Melissa hit Jamaica as one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record,
00:52causing major damage to public infrastructures and left most of the island without power.
00:57The full extent of the devastation is unclear with some areas inaccessible.
01:02So far, four bodies were recovered in Jamaica's badly hit St. Elizabeth Parish
01:07and another three died on the island during storm preparations.
01:11At least 20 people have died in Haiti after a river flooded by Melissa burst its banks
01:17and one person died in the Dominican Republic.
01:20The death toll is currently increasing.
01:22A hurricane warning remains in place for areas including Bermuda,
01:27while a tropical storm warning is in place for the Turks and Caicos Islands, among others.
01:33Again, this is very sad news.
01:35Let's continue to keep these countries in our prayers.
01:38Moving on now to conditions in Port of Spain currently.
01:41Port of Spain is partly cloudy with temperatures at 31 degrees.
01:45We have winds coming east-southeast at 19 kilometers per hour and humidity at 66%.
01:52And tonight will be mostly fair, but brace for some intermittent partly cloudy intervals
01:57associated with isolated light to moderate showers.
02:01Minimum temperatures are coming in at 24 degrees in Trinidad and 26 in Tobago.
02:07So, fair conditions expected tomorrow, but you should still carry your umbrellas with you
02:12because conditions will eventually change, becoming party cloudy at times from just around midday.
02:18With a few isolated showers and a chance of some thunderstorms near hilly and western areas.
02:24And just a reminder that in the vicinity of heavy showers or thunderstorms,
02:28expect gusty winds and street or flash flooding.
02:31We have maximum temperatures coming in tomorrow at 33 degrees in Trinidad and 32 over in Tobago.
02:38Now, let's check conditions for my two favorite days of the week.
02:43Some of you might agree.
02:44In our two-day forecast, the Met Office says Friday will be partly cloudy from late morning to afternoon
02:50with isolated showers and isolated thunderstorms as well developing over most areas.
02:56With maximum temperatures at 32 degrees in Trinidad and 30 degrees in Tobago.
03:01On Saturday, we'll be fair to party cloudy at times with isolated showers and thunderstorms again developing over most areas.
03:09Maximum temperatures are expected to be 33 degrees in Trinidad and 31 in Tobago on Saturday.
03:15Taking a quick look at our sun times now.
03:18In Trinidad, sunrise is at 5.56 and in Tobago it's at 5.53.
03:22Our sunset is at 5.52 in Trinidad and it will set at 5.39 in Tobago.
03:27But before we head over to our seas, just a reminder that we are still under a hazardous yellow level until 4 p.m. on Thursday.
03:37Waves will be higher, especially around high tide.
03:40These larger waves may disrupt fishing, boating and beach activities, so be safe out there.
03:46Our seas are looking moderate with waves 1.5 meters to 2 meters in open waters and 0.5 meters to 1 meter in sheltered areas.
03:55It's now time for your tide times.
03:57That's all for weather tonight.
04:11Don't go anywhere.
04:12There's more news when we come back.
