00:00Start out with these. So Rico Payton, we're going to open up his window.
00:05Got a number of guys that won't practice today.
00:10Jermaine Illuminor.
00:15Hyatt. Hyatt will be back out tomorrow. He had to get wisdom teeth taken out.
00:21Belly, Golston, Flott still in concussion protocol.
00:25Art Green. Holland will do stuff today.
00:28Debo will do some stuff. We'll see how much they do.
00:32But they'll be out here.
00:35And I think that's it roster-wise. Anybody got any questions on that?
00:41Jermaine's got a peck.
00:46Concerned if that's a serious thing? Like long-term?
00:50I don't think it's long-term.
00:53But not good enough to practice today.
00:56Anything else?
00:59Not a torn peck is what I was asking.
01:01Not a torn peck, were you?
01:02No, he's got a sore peck, yeah.
01:05Yep.
01:07Anything else injury-wise?
01:10Okay, then...
01:11Real quick.
01:12With Scott, it seems like the outlook for him long-term is fairly positive.
01:17Is that not right to you?
01:19Yeah, I mean, he's a couple days out of surgery, so again, he's got a road ahead of him to rehab.
01:28He just got the surgery, so I couldn't answer that.
01:32Any other surgery schedule or the one?
01:35No, just the one that he had.
01:36So he's been, I've seen him, been wheeling around.
01:42It just seems like that, you know, when you see that, that was obviously a tough injury to see, visually, the idea that he could be back from the start of next season.
01:52It seems pretty, you know, relatively speaking, positive.
01:56So, yeah, you have to ask the doctors.
02:00I think he's a couple days out of surgery, so...
02:02You haven't asked the doctors?
02:04I don't think they can give me a six-month, eighth-month pronostication.
02:08He's just getting done with surgery.
02:09He's got his leg all wrapped up.
02:12We're just going to help him rehab, and he'll be out here as soon as he can.
02:18Anything else on that?
02:21Okay, so big week with the 49ers.
02:23A lot of good football players that just played Houston on the road.
02:30Offensively, obviously, Coach Shannon's been there for a while.
02:32Got a lot of respect for him and how he's done his business.
02:36The years that he's been a head coach and a coordinator in this league.
02:39You know, Mack has played for him, and Brock has played in a couple games here, so we'll have to evaluate both of those guys.
02:47Starts with McCaffrey, who's a dynamic player, and I'm sure they'll look at a lot of things
02:53that have happened over the last couple weeks in terms of running the ball or matchup-wise with him.
02:58They do it with everybody, but he can align as a receiver, a running back.
03:02He's a very talented player.
03:04Kittle is back.
03:06Another really talented player.
03:07Trent Williams.
03:09Defensively, I think Coach Solid does a tremendous job.
03:11Those guys play extremely hard, turn the football over, the number one in the league in causing forced fumbles, play fast.
03:21Really, I'd say their speed is apparent in how they play, which is a testament to Coach Sala.
03:26So, we have to do a good job this week of getting ready for another good football team.
03:35You mentioned McCaffrey, obviously.
03:37It brings up this running that you had to deal with.
03:39How does he present several challenges, just kind of what he could do so much for his versatility?
03:45Yeah, he's one of the better players in the league at his position.
03:48He's a mismatch in the passing game.
03:52He's a mismatch in the running game.
03:53They run a wide variety of run schemes.
03:57He can run them all.
03:58They put him on a wide variety of routes, receiver routes that receivers would run, running backs.
04:04He can do pretty much everything.
04:07He's a very valuable piece for their offense, and he's extremely good.
04:14How do you go into the league thinking about their quarterback position?
04:17What's your approach to that?
04:19Yeah, well, I think Coach Shanna has run his system for a long time.
04:24You know, Mack's done a good job in replace of Brock.
04:26Brock has obviously done a good job since he's been here.
04:30Again, there's so much to prepare for relative to the different things that they do.
04:35You just study both guys, Jordan, but there's, you know, the system is pretty expansive,
04:40and, you know, they do a lot of the things that are difficult to defend.
04:44You mentioned that the Niners' defense does a really good job at forcing fumbles.
04:49Yeah.
04:50With Jackson in the backfield, Devin and Tyrone, what challenges,
04:54what's the most challenging thing that they will face in regards to the pass rush and the run defense?
04:59Yeah, and I'd say the receivers, too.
05:00I just think the way that they attack the football and the effort and style that they play with,
05:06I think it's the all-gas, no-break style, if you will.
05:12I've known Coach Shanna for a long time, and I just think he's a really good football coach that,
05:17you know, those guys play hard.
05:19His fingerprints are all over it.
05:22You know, we're going to have to do a good job of finishing plays because they rally to the football.
05:28They do a great job of punching it out, technique at the top of holding on to the football.
05:33They're long inside.
05:36Do a really good job.
05:37They did not, the Niners didn't have a very good game last week against Houston.
05:41They got on there pretty good.
05:42Is a team even more dangerous coming off of a game like that?
05:47I think it's the NFL.
05:51Again, the first half, you know, you watch some of the things.
05:55They had been hit on a couple big plays, one out of the backfield.
05:58It was cover one.
05:59The defender lost his man, so they ran for 50.
06:02Stroud made a really nice throw on one of the downfield throws.
06:07But I thought they did a really good job in the red zone in some third and one
06:10where they could have got out of hand there, and they didn't.
06:12It was a competitive game until the end relative to going into the fourth quarter.
06:18It's a good football team.
06:19Got a winning record for a reason.
06:21Two different quarterbacks that have played well.
06:23Really good running back, and I'd say very aggressive, just fast defense.
06:28Brian, you and Robert were both head coaches in this city, in this stadium,
06:35together, different teams obviously.
06:37Did you guys form a bond over that?
06:40Did you talk about your relationship with him, or does it go back?
06:42Well, I've known him.
06:42He was a Michigan State GA too.
06:44I was a Michigan State GA.
06:45So he's just a good person that I got a lot of respect for.
06:50So, again, we've talked.
06:52We've practiced against one another, obviously, like that.
06:54But I got a lot of respect for him.
06:56Outside of this particular matchup, what have you learned in the past few weeks
06:59about Jackson and how he responds to adversity and handles it?
07:03I think I've said this before.
07:06He's pretty consistent.
07:07He focuses on each week.
07:09He spends a lot of time at his graft, works really hard, competitive,
07:14does a lot of good things for us.
07:16I have a lot of confidence in him.
07:17Brian, is the, you know, Jackson has shown, you know,
07:21the ability in unscripted situations, you know,
07:25just not backyard football, obviously,
07:27but he's got to move around and do things,
07:30and receivers have to move around and do things.
07:33That's obviously you like that about him,
07:35but is there a sense that you hope that things can be more scripted at times,
07:40you know, and things don't break down,
07:42and he just can get back there, read it, and do it?
07:45Yeah, I think he can get back there, read it, and do it,
07:48and then when it's not there,
07:50I think I was asked a question in training camp with that.
07:52He has a good feel for the pocket,
07:54keeps his eyes downfield, and makes plays.
07:56I'd say a lot of the really good ones in this league are able to do that.
08:00He was saying how the Bulls will ask you to get into the scramble lane
08:03and expect that's just going to be the case going forward.
08:06He had a lot of success scrambling on his first goals right now.
08:08What's the counter to that, then, if they're going to rush him like that?
08:12Well, if they're sitting back,
08:13which I don't really anticipate San Francisco doing,
08:17they get after the quarterback and get off the ball.
08:20Again, there's lanes outside.
08:21Keep your eyes downfield, scramble rules.
08:25You know, there's a lot of quarterbacks that can scramble in this league
08:28with their legs,
08:29and you try to do a variety of things against them.
08:32So if it's there and he's got an opportunity to do it,
08:34you know, he should do it.
08:36And if not, we've got to do a good job of scramble rules,
08:38keeping our eyes downfield,
08:39becoming available for him as a passer when he's, you know,
08:42like the one-to-one down in Denver.
08:44I mean, there's plenty of them.
08:46You know, just play the game.
08:47Coach, when outside always gets so close to home
08:50with Carl Banks and his comments on Dexter Lawrence,
08:53is that something that warrants a conversation between you and Dex?
08:57Yeah, I'd say we just focus on, you know, ourselves
09:00and do the best job we can each week to get ready to play a game.
09:03And, you know, we've got enough on our plate
09:05with getting ready for San Francisco.
09:07Dave, you mentioned Cam obviously being here.
09:10Malik had his surgery yesterday.
09:11Yeah.
09:11He's on the back.
09:13In their recoveries, obviously, that's the priority.
09:15But is it important for you to have two young players like that,
09:19cornerstone players, to still be around this team
09:22as you guys move forward here in this season?
09:24Yeah, I'd say the first thing is they've got to make sure
09:26that we're on the right path in terms of the recovery,
09:29and there's a lot of time that's going to need to take place for that.
09:32But, you know, again, Cam was in here.
09:34He was in a meeting.
09:36He won't be getting as much treatment as you can.
09:39Same thing with Malik.
09:41You know, the first thing is their health
09:42and try to get them back as healthy as we can
09:45as soon as that may be.
09:47Malik, a corner of rehab initiative, Dallas, is it right?
09:50I think Malik will be back here either tonight or tomorrow.
09:53All right.
09:54Cornerback, how physical are you about a lot this week?
09:57He's in concussion protocol.
09:58Okay.
09:59And then as far as Peyton goes, when he's healthy,
10:01he'll be out here practicing today,
10:04so I'll get a feel for him this week.
10:07I just want to confirm, Cam was in meetings?
10:10Yeah, Cam was in a meeting today.
10:12Is he still bringing that energy that we see
10:14that he brings on the field to the meeting?
10:15What is that dynamic like after?
10:17Well, I'd say, with all due respect,
10:19this is the first day after his surgery.
10:21I mean, he's all wrapped up, came, walked around the building,
10:26been in the training room.
10:27You know, this is an unfortunate injury for all of us.
