00:00So a couple things here.
00:05Flanagan Foles won't practice.
00:08Still has a calf, getting better, see where he's at.
00:10By the end of the week, hopefully improves day to day.
00:14Darius Moussao is still in a concussion protocol.
00:19Golston has an ankle, we'll back off him today.
00:21Everybody else will practice.
00:25AT will take more reps than he did last week.
00:28I'd say he'll take a good amount of reps today.
00:32So see where he is after today, but encourage where he's at.
00:38Signed Jacobs, Hewitt has inside linebackers to the practice squad.
00:41Brought back Daylon Cambry, Bozeman to the active.
00:47That's where we're at roster-wise.
00:51Need a good week this week.
00:53Be good to get home for the first game
00:55and play at our place for a first regular season game.
01:01Expected to be a good environment.
01:03The Chiefs, obviously Coach Reed has been there for a while.
01:07Been in this league for a long time.
01:10One of the more decorated coaches, I would say.
01:15One of the more decorated coaches in the NFL,
01:18both when he was with the Eagles and with the Chiefs.
01:21Go back to the Packers when he was with Brett.
01:23Have a lot of respect for him.
01:26He's over 300 wins in this league.
01:30So Super Bowls, a lot of accolades for him.
01:33Done a great job with that organization.
01:36Matt Nagy, along with him as an offensive coordinator,
01:40who's been with him for a while.
01:42And then you talk about their offense.
01:44You know, it starts with Patrick Mahomes,
01:48who is one of the best to ever do it.
01:51He's as impressive as a quarterback as you evaluate and watch,
01:55both physically and mentally.
01:58Loose plays.
01:59He's made a lot of plays these first two games with his legs.
02:03I'd say particularly on third down,
02:05but just an unbelievable awareness,
02:07instinct to play this position.
02:10He's done it at a high level,
02:11and he's certainly doing it now.
02:14You add Kelsey to the mix,
02:15who's been with him for a long time.
02:18You know, a go-to player for him in critical situations.
02:23You know, one of the best to do it at tight end as well.
02:27Defensively, have competed against Coach Spaggs
02:30a number of times.
02:31Have a lot of respect for him
02:32and the things that he does defensively.
02:35And he has some good players that are with him,
02:39starting with Chris Jones inside.
02:41Plays multiple positions.
02:43He's a tough player to block.
02:46Trent McDuffie, I think, is a very good defensive back.
02:50Does a good job of tackling, covering, playing the deep ball.
02:53Bolton and Karloftis,
02:55two good players that are hard to account for.
02:58And they're kind of a spin-the-dial defense, if you will.
03:01Play a number of fronts, a number of coverages,
03:05and have a number of pressures.
03:08You know, have watched a lot of tape,
03:10obviously playing against Spaggs in the past.
03:14Watched all his games against Russell,
03:16going back to 17 when he was with the Giants
03:18and Russ was with Seattle.
03:20And then with Denver and Pittsburgh last year or so.
03:24And then Coach Taub, again, another veteran coach,
03:26special teams-wise.
03:28Has done a great job for a long time.
03:29And they do a really good job in their return game.
03:32They have two good specialists.
03:34A punter that can kick it 80 yards.
03:38A consistent field goal kicker.
03:40And, you know, they have a number of things that they do,
03:42including fakes and things like that,
03:44and the special team side of it.
03:46So, they've had two games
03:48that have been close games in the start of the season
03:52against two good teams.
03:54And you're going to need a good, God bless you.
03:57You're going to need to get a good week of practice.
04:01So, with that, that's what we got.
04:06Brian, how do you parse out
04:07taking the good things that you were able to build on
04:10in week two,
04:11but also using some of the anger and frustration
04:14and being on two is the motivation
04:16and balance that when they get to meet three?
04:18Yeah, I think you try to be as consistent as you can,
04:20win or lose.
04:23Again, there's things that you do well,
04:25and you want to continue to do those well.
04:28And there's things that you fall short on
04:30that you need to evaluate, look at,
04:34change if you need to change them,
04:36whether that's coach, player,
04:38and you get ready to play the next week.
04:44Do the Chiefs being 0-2 mean anything to you?
04:48No.
04:49They're a very good football team.
04:51They've been that way for a long time,
04:53a model of consistency
04:54in this league
04:56for the past decade plus.
04:59A lot of good football players,
05:01a lot of good coaches.
05:03We're going to have to do a good job
05:04of evaluating and studying them,
05:06but also improving on the things
05:07we need to improve on.
05:08And do the things we need to do.
05:12You said on Monday
05:12that you reviewed like the four phases.
05:15I haven't really heard you use that
05:16for coaching.
05:16When you were in the field of the players,
05:18do you explain things
05:19that you guys had wrong to them?
05:21Yeah, I mean, it's all,
05:22everybody's involved in this dance.
05:24So, you know, we have,
05:26we watch a number of plays,
05:27we discuss a number of things,
05:29whether it's strategy,
05:30whether it's technique,
05:32whether it's mistakes,
05:33whatever it may be,
05:34and try to build on the things that,
05:37again,
05:38that we're good,
05:39and improve on the things
05:40that weren't where we need them to be.
05:42And then you move on.
05:43Once Wednesday hits,
05:44it's full steam ahead
05:46against the team you're playing.
05:47You put everything to bed,
05:49you know, Monday night,
05:51if you will,
05:51Monday afternoon,
05:52and spend all your time
05:54focusing on the team
05:55you're playing this week.
05:56The penalties were obviously
05:58known as we're playing last week.
05:59How do you go about this week?
06:00Like, what do you do this week
06:02to try to make sure
06:02that that doesn't happen?
06:04Yeah, well,
06:04I think there's two types of penalties.
06:06There's penalties
06:07that are going to happen
06:08because you're playing
06:09aggressive style of football,
06:12whether that's a technique
06:15and a pass coverage.
06:17But the things that you want
06:18to make sure
06:18that you do a good job
06:21of correcting
06:22throughout the entire season
06:23are the pre
06:24and the post-snap penalties.
06:25So the communication
06:27that happens
06:28as a play caller,
06:31whether it's a quarterback,
06:32a linebacker,
06:33an offensive,
06:33defensive coordinator,
06:34making sure that those things
06:35are proper.
06:37And then the staying on sides,
06:41you know,
06:41that's a thing
06:42for each individual player
06:43that they've got to hone in on.
06:45The post-snap penalties,
06:48whether it's hitting
06:49a quarterback late,
06:50putting a guy on the ground,
06:52we've got to make sure
06:53that we're doing things
06:54the right way
06:55and again,
06:56some of those
06:57are physical things
06:58that happen in a split second
06:59and we've just got to make
07:00the right decision
07:01on those things.
07:02You know,
07:02a holding penalty,
07:03a coverage penalty,
07:05something like that
07:05where it's going to be aggressive.
07:07You know,
07:07you work on your technique
07:08the best you can.
07:09You're going to have
07:09some of those,
07:10but it's the pre-snap
07:12and the post-snap
07:13that really get you.
07:14So what do you end up,
07:15a build-up,
07:16what did you say
07:17to James Hudson
07:18and how much of that
07:19do you want
07:19to contribute to exposure?
07:21Yeah, again,
07:22there's a variety
07:23of penalties
07:25that happened.
07:27Again,
07:28the one false start penalty
07:30that was called
07:30on James
07:31wasn't on James,
07:32but it was called
07:33on James
07:34relative to the
07:35communication of it.
07:36But you just coach it
07:37like anything else,
07:38Jordan.
07:38With Mahomes,
07:39obviously,
07:40kind of like Casey,
07:40the numbers aren't reflective
07:42of their resume,
07:43if you will.
07:43How do you evaluate
07:44where he is now
07:45based on what he's been doing?
07:46Who's that?
07:47Patrick Mahomes.
07:48My question is,
07:50how do you evaluate him
07:51where he is now
07:52or do you just consider
07:53his resume
07:54next to what his numbers
07:55say he's doing this year?
07:57Yeah,
07:58I don't really focus
07:58on numbers too much
07:59when you're watching players.
08:00He's as good as quarterback
08:02there is in the league
08:03when you watch him play.
08:05He's instinctive.
08:06He's accurate.
08:07He's got leadership.
08:09He's one of the best
08:11to ever do it.
08:12He plays at a high level
08:14when he's out there
08:14pretty much on every snap.
08:15You know,
08:18he's as good as it gets.
08:20What did you say from
08:21Wondell Robinson?
08:26I think that
08:29each year we've had him,
08:32he's been,
08:33first and foremost,
08:33a very good teammate.
08:35He's very smart.
08:37Can play multiple spots.
08:39Knows every one of them.
08:41Has speed.
08:42Has quickness.
08:44You know,
08:44it was good
08:45for us
08:46and for him
08:47the contributions
08:49that he made
08:50down the field.
08:52There's no substitute
08:53for explosive plays
08:54in this league.
08:55They generate points,
08:57skip third downs.
08:59It's a big contributing factor
09:01to the outcome of games.
09:02And it was good to see him.
09:04He's done it,
09:05you know,
09:05throughout practice
09:06and training camp here.
09:08But it was good to see
09:09in a game,
09:09you know,
09:10giving him those chances
09:11and him making them plays
09:14when he had the opportunity
09:15to make them.
09:16And he had a considerable
09:17amount of them.
09:18So,
09:18he's a player that,
09:21very good teammate
09:21and was productive
09:24and has been productive,
09:26you know,
09:26in different areas.
09:27Some short,
09:28some this was more vertical.
09:29But,
09:30he's a good player.
09:33You have Andrew Thomas
09:34getting more snaps,
09:35but you also want to make sure
09:36Marcus is ready
09:37to get ACS's part.
09:39Yeah,
09:39well,
09:40I would say Andrew
09:40will take predominantly
09:41most of the snaps today.
09:42And,
09:43just if you're a backup,
09:45you get the reps
09:45that you get.
09:46and you take
09:47show team reps.
09:50I think we do things,
09:51you know,
09:52again,
09:52whether it's walk-through,
09:53whether it's after practice,
09:54much like the quarterbacks do
09:56with guys that,
09:58you know,
09:58improve their craft
09:59the way we need to help
10:00them improve their craft.
10:01What have you seen
10:01from that rotation
10:02with Banks and Flott?
10:05Yeah,
10:06Banks,
10:06Banks had more,
10:07got some more reps
10:08last week.
10:09I thought he did
10:10some good things.
10:10I think Flott's playing good.
10:12You know,
10:12we'll just do what we think
10:13we need to do
10:14for each game.
10:15Last week,
10:15the rotation of it
10:17was a little bit different
10:17than it was the week before
10:18relative to third downs
10:20and things like that.
10:21So,
10:22we'll just,
10:22we'll continue to play
10:23both of those guys
10:24and keep improving
10:26both of those guys.
10:26You can't see a situation
10:27where one guy
10:29just playing to that spot?
10:30I think it just depends
10:31on what we want to do
10:32for that particular week.
10:33But,
10:34I think they both
10:34earned playing time
10:35with some of the things
10:37they've done
10:37and they'll both
10:39need to help us.
10:40Two more.
10:40Two more.
10:41What has been your next
10:42step with Hudson
10:42when you talk to him
10:44after that game
10:44to make sure
10:45that doesn't happen?
10:46Yeah,
10:46Hudson,
10:46Hudson's a pro.
10:48Again,
10:48there were some things
10:49that we're going to have
10:52to talk about
10:53and fix like
10:54Carm did
10:55and we've talked
10:56with him.
10:57I have confidence
10:57in HUD.
10:58He's a pro.
10:59He's a veteran.
11:00Again,
11:01there was a
11:02number of penalties.
11:03Again,
11:03one of them
11:04wasn't on him.
11:05It was called on him.
11:06We could do a better job
11:07communicating on that
11:08spot.
11:09The one where he got
11:11him in the head.
11:12Again,
11:13we can help some
11:14on the technique things
11:14but I have confidence
11:15in HUD.
11:18If Andrew comes back,
11:19what does he mean
11:20do you think
11:21to your team
11:21and your line
11:22and things like that?
11:24Let's just get
11:24another good player
11:25on your football team.
