00:00We do have some more, I think, clues as to the way the 49ers are going to play this
00:05coming up this weekend.
00:07And, yes, it very much sounds like we're headed for another Mac Jones game.
00:12And the question, I think, today was not even like, is Brock going to play?
00:16Because once he didn't practice yesterday, and everybody wants him to be 100%,
00:20apparently including himself, before he goes back out on the field,
00:24well, okay, you're not going to go from not practicing on a Wednesday
00:26to 100% on Sunday.
00:28So very much looks like Brock Purdy is not going to play.
00:31The question was, is Mac going to be healthy enough to play?
00:34And John Lynch did say today they feel very good about where Mac will be coming up on Sunday.
00:42So we would expect him to play.
00:44Here's where my mind goes on this, because you've got two personalities in Brock Purdy
00:50and Mac Jones who have and will continue to handle this situation perfectly.
00:58Absolutely perfectly.
01:00They're going to say all the right things.
01:02They're going to do all the right things.
01:04Nobody's going to rock the boat.
01:06Mac is going to be, I'm the backup.
01:08I was hired to be the backup.
01:10I'm the backup.
01:11And Brock is over here going to just, yep, I got my $265 million.
01:16There's no stress, no sweat.
01:18I'll be the starter when I'm ready to be the starter.
01:20And that's how it's going to feel inside the building, even if it doesn't feel that way outside the building.
01:26I thought it'd be fun for a second to take a look at how we think they're actually feeling about this whole thing.
01:33And to use a conversation that happened earlier this morning on the morning roast with the Joes,
01:40Drew Bledsoe was on.
01:43He knows a thing or two about being a good quarterback and then losing his job when he got hurt.
01:48I would say it's probably the most famous Wally Pip of all time, is it not?
01:53Other than Wally Pip himself.
01:54Maybe since Wally Pip, which was 100 years ago and a little bit different because Drew Bledsoe basically got cut in half.
02:03That injury was so severe, he is lucky that he was able to ever play football again.
02:09He had multiple organs get lacerated on that hit on the sideline.
02:12No, that was.
02:14It was a laceration sensation is what it was, Mark.
02:16I didn't have to think about it for a second.
02:17Yeah, didn't have to think about it.
02:18Trying to make sure Grandy's ready to go.
02:21He's yoked in.
02:22Listen to this.
02:22Bledsoe talked about what his conversations with Patriots coaches were like when the whole Brady thing started happening.
02:31This is from the Joes, the morning roast earlier today.
02:33Coaches are so focused during the season on just trying to win the next game that there's not a whole lot of time.
02:39I mean, football's not a touchy-feely sport.
02:41You know, it's not about your feelings.
02:43It's not about it.
02:44It's just about trying to win the next game, and that's what they're focused on, and I'm sure that's where Kyle is.
02:47That's where Belichick was.
02:49You know, it didn't mean I was happy with the situation, but, you know, it was just, you know,
02:53and then, you know, part of the situation with me was that I was out for so long before I was able to practice that, you know,
03:00it was like, you know, there just aren't enough reps to get two quarterbacks ready to play,
03:05so you really have to make that call, you know.
03:07So Belichick obviously made a huge mistake playing that Brady kid because he never turned out to be anything.
03:14Unfortunately, I taught him too well, man.
03:16I raised him, I raised him, and then the little sh** stole my job.
03:22Yeah.
03:23That's my favorite.
03:24I raised him, and the little bleep took my job.
03:29So they're going to play this perfectly in front of the media.
03:33I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever.
03:36They're going to play this perfectly.
03:38They know their roles, and I don't think there's any way that this year any of that will change,
03:45even if Mack ends up playing five, six, seven, eight, nine games, who knows?
03:49He's going to continue to ring that bell of,
03:52I was brought here to be the backup, I'm the backup.
03:54You're hearing sort of the executive branch of the 49ers, like, pitch it that way.
04:00Brock wants to be 100% when he comes back,
04:02and so when he comes back, he'll be really ready to go,
04:05and thank God we've got a backup who can win us games until then.
04:10That's the way they're going to make it sound.
04:11But, that's not how they feel.
04:16That's not how they feel, and what a perfect day to talk about it,
04:21because as we were just doing on the crossover,
04:24everyone's sitting here getting mad at Jonathan Kaminga and Brendan Pajemski
04:27because they think they're better than they are, or whatever,
04:31or they've got big goals for themselves.
04:33Wow, what a weird thing to get upset about with a professional athlete.
04:38Do you think that Mac Jones thinks he's not that dude?
04:41You think he thinks he's just a cute, adorable little backup?
04:44That's who he is.
04:46A guy who four years ago was the 15th pick in the draft?
04:49That's not what Mac Jones thinks about himself.
04:51Nope, nope.
04:52Mac thinks he can be the CEO of an NFL franchise.
04:55There's no doubt in my mind.
04:56And by the time Drew Bledsoe was cleared to play, which was in November,
05:01Tom Brady had already started a bunch of games and taken a team that was 0-2
05:05when he came off the bench, and then they got to 6-5 and then 7-5,
05:11and Drew Bledsoe, incidentally enough, and I don't know if the Joes asked him this,
05:15but in 2001, he signed, Drew Bledsoe signed a then-record contract going into that year.
05:2210-year, $103 million.
05:25Wow.
05:25That was the then-record.
05:27So Bledsoe, like Brock Purdy, Brock Purdy's not a record, but you get the comp,
05:31where it's a huge money contract, and Bledsoe goes out there, and in Game 2,
05:36he gets an absolutely horrific chest-thorax injury where he's basically bleeding out
05:43from the inside, and he sits two months, and maybe Brock Purdy won't sit two months,
05:48and Mac Jones is more highly regarded than Tom Brady was then,
05:52but Tom Brady came out and took him to the Super Bowl, and the rest is history for Drew.
05:56He wound up a Cowboy, so it's not without precedent that a guy who's making a lot of money
06:02eventually gets replaced.
06:04This situation is a little bit different.
06:06The timing is different.
06:08The injury is different.
06:09And you have to go win the Super Bowl.
06:10Right.
06:11Like, the Eagles moved on eventually from a rehabbing Carson Wentz.
06:16Why?
06:17Well, Nick Foles won the Super Bowl.
06:19Why would they move on from Drew Bledsoe?
06:23Tom Brady, he won the Super Bowl.
06:26So, if Mac Jones wins the Super Bowl this year, I don't know, maybe we've got a conversation.
06:34But probably nothing short of that will create an actual inside-the-building conversation.
06:40Right, and it's funny because everything comes down to those micro moments where,
06:44yeah, Tom Brady, quote-unquote, won the Super Bowl, but they needed an unprecedented call
06:52in the snow at home to beat the Raiders and get a 54-yard field goal in that same snow
06:58to beat the Raiders, and then you were able to gut out two really close games.
07:02And yeah, Tom Brady won the Super Bowl, but beyond that, like, one play here, one play there.
07:07For sure.
07:08They don't win that Super Bowl.
07:09Well, I mean, Greg Cosell asked us yesterday, and this would be kind of a fun thing to throw
07:14at people, what if Kyron Williams didn't fumble?
07:17Yep.
07:19That's got nothing to do with Mac Jones.
07:21How would you feel about Mac Jones today if Kyron Williams didn't fumble?
07:27How would you feel about, um, how would you feel about Mac Jones if Kyron Williams didn't
07:34get stuffed on fourth and one?
07:35What if he bounced it outside and went in the end zone?
07:39How would you feel about, would that change anybody's opinion about this situation?
07:45Because that, like, Greg makes a very fair point, and this doesn't just relate to Mac,
07:50it relates to every single quarterback in the entire league.
07:56Does it not?
07:57Like, things are happening around you.
08:00I mean, I've done this for a long time with that famous Josh Allen-Patrick Mahomes game.
08:04People would be like, Josh Allen, he didn't beat Patrick Mahomes.
08:09He didn't?
08:10I mean, what the hell did you, what'd they score in that game, 45 points or something
08:14like that?
08:15Right.
08:15And he scored the game-winning, air quotes, score with 15 seconds to, what did Josh do
08:22wrong to, quote, lose that football game?
08:26It's always funny because as we look backward, and I'm thinking about, and I'm just looking
08:30at the box score here, Brady gets the start the next week, and it's Brady against Manning.
08:35Yes, Peyton Manning.
08:36New England hosting Indy, and New England beat them 44-13.
08:40Tom's first start as a quarterback.
08:43And I'm looking here, and it is, oh, well, there's a pick six for the Patriots.
08:48And, well, there's another pick six, and Tom was on one that day.
08:52There's some Antoine Smith running touchdowns.
08:55Tom Brady was 13 of 23 for a buck 68, and they put up, they put up 44 points.
09:02So, what you're talking about is true, where Mac Jones is 3-0, but, yeah, he's 3-0.
09:08Is he?
09:08They're 3-0.
09:09Yeah.
09:10Right?
09:10Exactly.
09:11Alfred Collins is 3-0.
09:13Chase Lucas is 3-0.
09:15I mean, let's talk it out.
09:17There's more from Bledsoe that you've got to hear.
09:19He was great with Shaskin Spadoni today.
09:228-8-9-5-7-9-5-70.
09:24What if Kyron Williams didn't fumble?
09:27Would that change?
09:28Does anybody change how they're feeling about this situation at all?
