00:00And I'm just starting to realize that we individualize sports too much,
00:06particularly in the NFL.
00:08Like baseball, I can tell when somebody's at the plate who is a difference maker.
00:14And in basketball, difference makers kind of make that league go.
00:19You know, Exhibit A, Steph Curry gets knocked out of a playoff series,
00:23you can't win another game.
00:25But in football, man, we focus too much on these individuals.
00:32Like C.J. Stroud can complete passes if given time,
00:35but all year he hasn't been given time.
00:38Yesterday he got time.
00:40But what happens when that looks consistent?
00:43Like y'all think that Daniel Jones just ate a pill or something?
00:47Why is he awesome and why does Jonathan Taylor score three touchdowns a week?
00:51Their offensive line is killing it.
00:53Huh. Imagine that.
00:55That's it.
00:56Their offensive line is killing it.
00:59And there are many quarterbacks.
01:02And again, I'm not saying that there are like, yes,
01:04there are many who are set apart from others.
01:07But there are a lot of quarterbacks if given the right situation of blocking
01:14and system and understanding and execution who will play well.
01:20I don't think Daniel Jones is amazing.
01:24He's good.
01:25But like it looks perfect all of the sudden because what's going on around him is fantastic.
01:32It's elite.
01:33Did you know that he's like there's eight quarterbacks that have a higher rating than Daniel Jones this year?
01:39You wouldn't think that by looking at their record and the way he's played.
01:42But there are a lot of guys out there who are technically, by the numbers, playing better.
01:49But they might be struggling more to get wins because they can't just hand the ball off and get seven yards of carry whenever they want.
01:55But that's what the Colts are doing right now.
01:57Yeah.
01:58So they score over 30 points and they kick your ass every weekend.
02:02Look at their scores.
02:03It's not just winning.
02:04Oh, they're crushing people.
02:05Every eight to 14, they look like the Niners from a couple of years ago.
02:10That's what they look like.
02:10The Colts have been sacked nine times in eight games.
02:14They've given up nine sacks.
02:15There you have it.
02:16Denver's only given up eight.
02:18The Seahawks have also given up nine.
02:20And these are teams that are winning.
02:22Dallas has only given up ten sacks, but their defense is so bad that it doesn't matter.
02:26They score almost as much as Indianapolis, but it's complimentary football.
02:31And if you look at, like, the Titans, they've given up the most sacks.
02:34And the Jets, they've given up the second most sacks.
02:36And there's no surprise that those are quarterbacks who are really, really struggling.
02:41And the 49ers are right there in the middle.
02:43But the thing about the Niners is they are so reliant on the complimentary nature of their offense.
02:49And if you can't throw it because you don't have wide receivers who are able to get open,
02:54the defense will cheat and they'll sell out to stop the run, which is what Houston did yesterday.
02:58And they did a great job up front.
03:00They were dominating the Niner offensive line, so you can't run it.
03:04And even when they had some success passing it, Houston would rally up and make the tackle.
03:09And there were a couple plays, three or four plays are sticking out to me for the Niners defensively
03:13where, like, one Malik Mustafa runs up to get a stop and he just, whoop, slipped.
03:19And he went right by a guy and upped and stout with a blitz off the corner.
03:23And, you know, Stroud just kind of stepped around him.
03:26There were little plays that the Niners could have made, but they didn't because they couldn't tackle.
03:30Right, right.
03:31Yeah, they were sloppy yesterday.
03:33They can play better than that.
03:34But I don't think they can be a markedly great team on offense.
03:39Their offensive line does not block enough.
03:42And on defense, their defensive line does not chase enough.
03:46Football sometimes is really that simple.
03:49And I get it.
03:509-1-6 on the Boxer and Gerson work injury attorney's text line wants me to adopt that same take for Purdy.
03:56Fine.
03:57I don't run from that.
03:59It's the same for Purdy.
04:00He's not great, but everything around him was great.
04:03I don't look at it like I don't buy your verbiage, but your point is fair.
04:08I don't think that that means that a player is not great.
04:12The player has to go do and execute what opportunity is there.
04:17Daniel Jones is doing it.
04:19He's playing great this year.
04:21Does that make him a great player?
04:23I don't know.
04:24I guess in this particular system and moment, Colts announced yesterday they want to work on a long-term deal.
04:30They would like Daniel Jones to be the quarterback because it works with what they've produced.
04:35Same way it works for Brock Purdy in San Francisco.
04:39There's only three or four guys, and we know who they are, who are just like,
04:44dude, if you're here and we give you a uniform, we're going to win.
04:49Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and even they can be knocked off kilter.
04:54If things around them really, really fall apart, like it kind of did for Lamar a little bit early this year.
05:00Although that win for them yesterday, I think, keeps them in the picture because he's supposed to be back on Thursday night.
05:06Yep.
05:06And if you look at, like, just quarterback rating, you look at the quarterbacks who are at the top of the list,
05:13and you've got those teams are pretty well put together.
05:16Drake May is number one right now in quarterback rating, and New England's been healthy,
05:21and they are very buttoned up offensively.
05:23He's an MVP candidate right now.
05:25Jared Goff is number two.
05:26Detroit goes without saying how explosive they are.
05:29Jalen Hurts is number three in quarterback rating.
05:32Then you get to Jordan Love, and boy, Green Bay sure looked good last night.
05:36Then you get to Danny Dimes, who's fifth.
05:38Matthew Stafford is sixth.
05:39And again, that's another team that's very, very good offensively, and they're all buttoned up.
05:44And then it's Seattle, and even Aaron Rodgers in Pittsburgh.
05:48Josh Allen is nine.
05:49Mahomes is ten.
05:51I mean, Dak Prescott's 11, and their offense is actually really, really good and fun to watch.
05:56But they have to win games 40 to 39.
05:58But you get the point.
05:59You go to Baker Mayfield and all the rest of it.
06:02These are offenses with good offensive lines and good skill guys and a good scheme.
06:07And as a result, they're able to succeed.
06:10It's not that Drake May suddenly is the best quarterback in football.
06:15He's not.
06:16But he is thriving in a system.
06:18He's thriving in a system that suits him.
06:20And they have a schedule that is pretty friendly.
06:24When you look at who New England is playing, they're not out there playing a first-place schedule.
06:28And that, I think, is certainly part of it.
06:30No, no question about it.
06:31Yeah.
06:32So, like, those things, to me, that's fine.
06:34That's fine.
06:35If you find a mix that works, then you stick with that mix.
06:40But right now, whether it be last year, to a degree this year.
06:44I mean, I know if you just flip on the radio today, any of the shows,
06:48it's not going to sound and feel like the Niners are 5-3.
06:52But they are.
06:53They are, which is such an unbelievable opportunity,
06:56because it also feels, to a degree, like nothing has worked so far.
07:01Nothing has really worked so far.
07:03It's worked in doses.
07:04It's worked in moments.
07:06It's worked in pieces.
07:07You know, I can look at the defense in Seattle.
07:10And I'm like, well, okay, that worked.
07:12And then in New Orleans, I'm like, ooh, Mack Jones, actually,
07:15that worked really well in that game.
07:17I think that was still the only touchdown a wide receiver has scored this year.
07:22Mack to Jawan Jennings in New Orleans.
07:24Wide receivers have not scored another touchdown for the 49ers this year.
07:27The run game worked last Sunday night against Atlanta.
07:31George Kittle returns, et cetera.
07:32So you can pull these little, these areas of the field on certain weeks.
07:37But I've never felt like the Niners put it all together for a game.
07:40And more often than not, if I look at any one group, more often than not this year,
07:46it has not been good.
07:47Yet, they're 5-3.
07:49So it's like, do you get Purdy and Pearsall back and some people back from IR
07:53and make some sort of a mid-level trade for a fifth-round draft pick or whatever
07:58to get somebody to rush the passer?
08:00And Bryce Huff returns?
08:01Could you be good in the second half of the year?
08:03You could be good.
08:04You could be.
08:05And again, someone hit us on the YouTube chat, and I lost it so I can't give credit
08:11for who it was, but they just said, if you're going to be the 7th seed,
08:16I'd rather miss the playoffs entirely.
08:19See, now with that, I completely disagree.
08:21I do too.
08:22I totally disagree.
08:23What's the point of that?
08:25Your draft position, I think, is already settled based on regular season record.
08:30100% it is.
08:31So even if you're the 7th seed and you win the Super Bowl, it doesn't mean you pick 32nd.
08:36You're slotted in based on...
08:38Oh, no, no, no.
08:39That does actually run through the playoffs.
08:41But the point is, is like, if you miss the playoffs, let's say the 8th or the 9th seed,
08:46we're only going to be like two, three picks ahead of what you would be if you make the playoffs.
08:50But no, make the playoffs.
08:52Get experience for these young players.
08:54Even if they lose.
08:55Like, that's the whole point.
08:56Like, make the playoffs.
08:57And by the way, wouldn't you pick the Niners to do so right now if I asked you today?
09:02Uh, yeah.
09:04Yeah.
09:04I mean, if I had to make a bet, if you gave me $1,000 of your money to bet and you said,
09:09I got to make a bet, I would bet yes to make the playoffs.
09:12And it's probably minus $250 still.
09:15They're probably still, I would say, somewhat heavily favored to make the playoffs.
09:18Minus $320.
09:19Yeah, thank you.
09:20More than $250.
09:21See, instead of thinking about it like, ooh, are they a playoff team?
09:25Ask yourself this.
09:26This is the list.
09:27Yeah.
09:27Somebody needs to beat the Niners on this list.
09:31Needs to finish ahead of them.
09:32For the Niners to miss the playoffs.
09:35Dallas, Washington, the Giants, the Bears, the Vikings, the Panthers, the Falcons, the Saints, and the Cardinals.
09:44One of those teams needs to finish ahead of the Niners when the Niners are going to the playoffs.
09:49Yeah.
09:50I mean, Bears and Panthers, you play them both.
09:53Those are the teams.
09:55And the Panthers at 4-4, it's like, they're 4-4?
09:59Yeah.
09:59And the Bears are an interesting one because with every passing game, Caleb Williams gets
10:05more comfortable in a new system again.
10:08They can be a dangerous team.
10:10You play Carolina still.
10:12You still play Chicago.
10:14So those, to me, would be the two most likely.
10:17I don't see Dallas defensively.
10:19They just don't have enough, I think, too.
10:21And, you know, Washington with the injury they've had.
10:24Their quarterback's been out.
10:25Tonight's a big game for them with Marcus Mariota, my fantasy quarterback.
10:29We'll see how he looks as a starter.
10:30You had to pick him up?
10:32Ah, sure.
10:32Yeah.
10:33I'm going to win anyway, but I got Sam Darnold on a bye.
10:37Okay, yeah.
10:37And I had Jaden Daniels hurt.
10:39Bomageddon, that's what they call him this week.
