00:00to put up a 40-burger and get a double-digit win.
00:04And I hope the Cardinals maybe helped your fantasy squad,
00:08but the Niners helped your heart.
00:10That's what I hope out of yesterday.
00:12And so, yeah, let's get into our impressions of this.
00:16And no, I'm not like, look, it'll probably sound that way at times.
00:21I'm not really in on what has happened seemingly across the Bay,
00:27whether it's Purdy, whether it's Mack Jones,
00:30whether it's Jonathan Kaminga, and whether it's Brandon Pajemski.
00:33There are these little fights that the fan bases have
00:35that are based on individuals only,
00:38as opposed to just kind of like what's best for the team
00:41and let's root for the team.
00:42So I don't have any designs on any Purdy victory lap today.
00:48Like, it's one game.
00:50It's a football game.
00:51But I thought it was wonderful, wonderful to have him back.
00:55I think the 49er offense clearly has at least another pitch,
01:01another pitch that it throws a little bit better when Purdy is in there.
01:06Wonderful to see him healthy.
01:08Wonderful to see him come out healthy, not float balls.
01:11You're not wrong.
01:12I didn't think it was a perfect performance.
01:14He had a couple throws that could have, should have been picked.
01:16Picks don't really bother me in that way.
01:18Like, I think that, you know what I mean?
01:20Like I said, Lamar, Josh, Patrick, they all got picked yesterday.
01:23You can throw a pick or two in the game, depending on the time.
01:27Like, I want you to be aggressive out there.
01:30But that's all.
01:31Like, I think it's a day for me to just tell you what's in my mind
01:35and heart about the Niner quarterback position.
01:38I'm bummed that Brock Purdy hasn't been able to seemingly get more of the fan base
01:44on his side with what he's been able to do over the last three and a half years.
01:50The Niners didn't have a hot hand to ride.
01:53They had a job to give back to their multi-million dollar franchise quarterback,
01:58and he walked out on the field and about two throws in,
02:01I felt like he reminded everybody how good he can be.
02:04That's how I feel.
02:06Yeah, I mean, he was good.
02:08He was better than fine.
02:09He wasn't spectacular.
02:10He didn't have to be.
02:12Yesterday was about complimentary football, and it starts with Sky Moore,
02:16and Sky Moore takes it to the one, and you punch it in, and you go up 7-0,
02:21and the defense forces a punt, and you get the ball back.
02:24And then, yeah, a couple of boom, boom, boom.
02:26Shanahan was in his bag early.
02:28Now you're up 14-0.
02:30I'm sorry, 13-0.
02:31Well, the PA team's blocked, and I don't think that that's on Eddie per se.
02:35And so, yeah, you are two possessions in.
02:38You had a total of, what was it, six plays, and you had two touchdowns,
02:43and so it was game over.
02:45So Brock Purdy didn't have to be anything more than a game manager,
02:49and people hate that phrase, but that's what it was from then on.
02:52It was basically, don't muck it up, and he didn't,
02:56and he had a couple of throws that were, oh, God, like why?
02:59Like throws into unnecessary duress, but he got away with it,
03:04and McCaffrey on the ground was good enough,
03:07and Brian Robinson, he chipped in here and there,
03:10and the defense was bend but don't break,
03:13and so that game to me was won in the opening nine seconds
03:17when Sky Moore took it 98 yards all the way down to the one.
03:21No doubt.
03:22That was kind of game over.
03:23Well, I mean, for just the luxury that Brock had
03:26to basically start his first game back
03:31with essentially a 7-0 lead.
03:34Like he didn't have to do anything.
03:36But you just, I mean, they scored so fast
03:39that I don't know how many people even got my joke,
03:42but I immediately went to Twitter,
03:44and I was like, what an opening drive by Purdy.
03:47Nice.
03:47You know, you turn around and give the ball to Christian,
03:49and it's over.
03:50And then that kind of takes the, you know what I mean?
03:53Like, it takes the nerves out of it.
03:55Now, look, it could have ended up being 7-7.
03:58The Cardinals could have gone right down the other way,
04:00but they didn't, and so Purdy's first real drive
04:03was pretty good field position.
04:06Not great, but pretty good field position,
04:08and he did really good things with it aggressively right away,
04:11and the signature throw of the game is the touchdown to Purdy,
04:14or I mean to Kittle in the corner of the end zone
04:17that did make it 13-0.
04:19And then, now you're in a tilted game.
04:23And that changes everything.
04:25It relaxes everybody.
04:27It makes their play calling one thing.
04:29It makes your play calling one thing.
04:30And so that was wonderful for him.
04:32But I do think, you know, to your point about some of the throws
04:36where you're like, oof, boy, don't, you know, don't do that.
04:39I just think that there are sort of two levels of quarterbacks in the NFL,
04:44and I've watched so much, maybe even more than normal this year,
04:48around the league.
04:50The guys who are really in a flow with their team,
04:53they are considered to be kind of the creme de la creme,
04:57the top 10 QBs in the game.
04:59They will force it.
05:01They do.
05:01They push it a little bit.
05:03And I think that that is one of his characteristics.
05:06And, quite frankly, I'm cool with it.
05:08Brock is going to throw some picks the rest of the way.
05:11It's going to happen.
05:12It's going to happen.
05:13But, like I said, Lamar, two picks.
05:15Josh has actually turned the ball over a ton this year,
05:19but also accounted for six touchdowns yesterday.
05:22Mahomes going against a great defense,
05:23but he got picked in a big moment and lost the game.
05:26I think that the top quarterbacks, they push it a little bit.
05:30Jared Goff got picked off right away last night.
05:33They went for it on fourth down 17 times.
05:36Yep, 0 for 5.
05:36Right, and got none of them.
05:38So, like, there is a little bit of a brash strategy
05:43for teams that feel like they're at full strength
05:47and they've got their guy.
05:48And so, you're going to see that.
05:50You know, Mack was much more get ball, get ball out of hand.
05:54And he did that really well.
05:55So, but I just see this is a different level.
05:59This is a different pitch that they can now throw
06:01now that they're at full strength.
06:03Yes, they can, but the throws that I'm looking at
06:06in the first half were both, in my opinion,
06:09largely unnecessary, where you've got the lead
06:12and you're going to put the ball in jeopardy.
06:14He threw one on third and five to Pearsall
06:16that Pearsall actually had to work back and break it up.
06:19And that was kind of just an up-for-grabs kind of ball.
06:23And the other one was on third and three
06:25when you're already up 19 to 10
06:27and you just kind of floated one down.
06:29And it was a really dangerous throw.
06:31And it got broken up as well.
06:33And so, I do think that Brock Purdy
06:35is going to hopefully get healthier
06:37and be able to rip the ball a little bit more.
06:39I didn't see him really make any throws.
06:42And I'd have to go back and watch it a third time.
06:44But I don't remember a lot of throws
06:46where he just put his foot in the ground
06:47and just ripped it.
06:49It was a lot of just more touch passes,
06:51which is fine.
06:52Well, the Kittle one was pretty deep.
06:54That was a pretty deep throw.
06:55Yeah, it was deep.
06:55It was a deep, it was a finesse throw.
06:57It was a looper.
06:58And the thing about that play,
07:00and I'm going to go back and I'll pull it up
07:02and I'll show you during the break,
07:04but the thing about that play
07:05was he changed the play at the line of scrimmage.
07:07Indeed.
07:08He changed the play.
07:09He saw the coverage.
07:10He made the call.
07:11They changed the formation.
07:13And he got the one-on-one.
07:14And he floated it down.
07:15Great throw.
07:16Even better decision, though,
07:18to change the play.
07:19And so, I'm not saying that he has to step back there
07:22and just rip the ball all over the place,
07:24but I hope that as the foot and the toe
07:26gets more healthy,
07:28he's able to make a little bit more
07:29of a tougher throw with velocity.
07:31Yeah, no doubt.
07:338-8-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-70.
07:35How did yesterday's offensive performance make you feel?
07:38And what sort of stood out?
07:39We can get to any of this,
07:41whether it's the quarterback or beyond.
07:438-8-9-5-7, 9-5-70.
07:45But here's what I'm getting at.
07:46Can I work through a couple of Boxer and Gerson
07:49work injury attorney's text line messages?
07:51Yeah, of course.
07:51Like, here's one we haven't mentioned yet.
07:547-0-7 is like Sam Darnold in a huge game
07:56threw four interceptions yesterday.
07:59He threw four interceptions.
08:00Now, he was going up against a really good defense.
08:02They had a chance to win the game anyway.
08:04But again, like, nobody is like,
08:07wow, Sam Darnold, you ruined everything.
08:10Like, big-time quarterbacks,
08:12big-time teams that are winning games,
08:14you got to go out there and let it rip.
08:15You got to take some chances,
08:17and you're going to get a few picked off.
08:20But here's the one that,
08:22this is like two different text messages
08:24that they get me.
08:26Maybe they shouldn't get me.
08:286-5-0.
08:29Brock Purdy played one of the worst teams in the NFL.
08:33Well, actually, it's the exact same defense
08:35that Mac Jones played week three
08:36and scored 16 points.
08:39Now, these things are not fully equal.
08:42Mac did not have George Kittle in that game.
08:44And Mac did not get the ball at the one.
08:47He did not get the ball at the one.
08:48He didn't get a 7-0 lead off of special teams.
08:52But one got 41 points.
08:55The other got 16.
08:56Yes, not all things are equal.
08:58Here's the next one.
08:594-1-5.
09:00Man, are we really going to act
09:02like the coach didn't scheme up every play
09:04for Brock Purdy to have a wide-open receiver?
09:07He didn't have to throw the ball into a tight window.
09:10And when he did, what happened?
09:12I don't know what happened.
09:14He didn't throw any picks.
09:16Do you really believe that the coach
09:18doesn't scheme up all plays?
09:20Every single play that ever gets called
09:23is schemed up by the coach.
09:24Mac Jones didn't have open receivers.
09:27And I don't like...
09:28Mac was wonderful.
09:30He went 5-3.
09:32He did a great job at being a backup quarterback.
09:35What bums me out is that a portion of this fan base
09:40will never appreciate what Brock Purdy brings to the table,
09:46even when you see it.
09:47Even when you see it.
09:48It's the first time they scored 41 points in two years.
09:51Right.
09:52But it's all very contextual.
09:54It is.
09:55Because they got the ball at the one,
09:56and then off the Lenore pick,
09:58they got the ball at the 14,
09:59and they scored there,
10:01and they scored off an onside kick.
10:03So it's not like they drove down 80 yards six different times.
10:08No question.
10:08So the point total to me is skewed by a lot of the circumstance.
10:14No doubt.
10:14Field position.
10:15But how often did they use the punter in the entire game?
10:18I think once, if I'm remembering correctly.
10:20Yeah.
10:21Twice.
10:22Again, the offense moved at a higher level, in my opinion.
10:28Mac was wonderful.
10:30Mac was wonderful in his time.
10:31I thought the offense moved at a different pace,
10:34a different level, more layered, all of those things,
10:37and it bums me out that people forget.
10:42People forget what Brock Purdy has achieved in a Niner uniform.
10:45Most fan bases love their winning quarterbacks.
10:47This one's got a lot of people that try to replace him.
10:51I'm not getting get through.
10:59I'm getting a lot of people that do not have to handle their Γ done.
11:00To be continued,
11:03we've had definitely changed.
