00:00what's the matter with you mcvegas by the way sean mcvegas bleep you dog where's your stupid
00:06pointless field goal when some of us needed it hello where's your hey let's lose 31 to 30 so
00:13at least we can ha ha ha sean mcvegas nope not yesterday no thanks a lot and i get it for nothing
00:21like you're gonna go for it on fourth and four and if you score then you take the lead cool
00:26that's awesome they still have five minutes and if you don't get it well now you're down four and
00:31they still have five minutes and i guess you're thinking okay we're gonna stop them but um sorry
00:37sean you haven't really all day yeah to me i've thought a lot about this um because even lovely
00:43christy and i did not see eye to eye on the going for it on fourth down um and i was like in this
00:49situation i get it now that you're here but i would argue along with you you shouldn't have been in this
00:56situation so in other words um i kind of have a line with the whole like go for two to get within
01:02three thing and to me it's it's either fourth quarter or damn near so you go 24 19 but it's
01:10like 10 minutes to go 11 minutes to go in the third quarter no no no no i'm not i'm not chasing
01:15kick it we're gonna kick it and they did but then when you scored to make it 31 26 with like a minute
01:21to have to go in the third quarter that's gonna be a two for me dog and you didn't and if you had
01:27when you went down there and had fourth and four with five minutes to go there wouldn't have even
01:32been a question you would have tied the game if you had gotten the two so i got it in the moment
01:39because you're also thinking if we don't get it they're pinned deep inside their own 10
01:45and they'll have trouble getting out of here which they didn't right cooper cup very big catch
01:50um anyway all of that so that's kind of how i saw it but it's always hindsight 2020
01:56um and that's what we're doing here peter schrager sean payton going for it on fourth down
02:03in the first half already up seven nothing this is from first take espn the same guy who calls an
02:10onside kick to start the second half of a super bowl he has always been one of the most aggressive
02:14fourth down play callers he is who he is he was going for that he was going to try to put the
02:19the nail in that coffin there when they had the opportunity they don't i do find it interesting
02:24league-wide because whether it was dan campbell going 0 for 5 on fourth down attempts against the
02:29eagles on a sunday night whether it was mcveigh last night whether it's the countless times people
02:34are saying just take the points take the points if the pendulum will swing back in these coaching
02:38circles now that the field goal now that the kickoff gives you the ball at the 35 like do you
02:42just take the points because it seems like every game is being decided by a field goal or less yeah
02:46instead of constantly going i know the analytics tell us one thing and we're in an analytics world
02:50but it felt like time and time again these playoffs these games are decided by so few points and so many
02:56coaches left points what do you think i think that it should swing back and then the pendulum
03:01i don't know if it's going to swing partly because of what you always talk about which is
03:06if you kick the field goal then you're considered a chicken or a coward by so many people but a wee
03:14little man right i do think that in football and in all of sports the analytics have taken hold of
03:21the human beings to a point where it's gone way too far and i think about yesterday in both examples and
03:27you know did you know that the weather was going to turn and turn that badly well i didn't i wasn't
03:33there but if i'm a head coach i'm definitely gonna have somebody on the doppler and if i know that
03:37that's coming then three points now is worth about eight points later because turns out it's going to
03:44be really hard to score when the skies open up and now the field is blanketed with snow two things on
03:49on whether they knew or not that it was going to snow um you never know exactly what's going to
03:54happen sure but there are reports that mike rabel absolutely purposefully had the patriot patriots
04:00where they're all whites so that they would be difficult to play against in snow and broncos
04:05receivers did report that when they were going into the wind they could not see the defense
04:09so do with that what you will yeah i've seen ghosts secondly if if professional sports teams today are
04:15going to have multi-million dollar analytics facilities inside their stadiums and they do they do all of
04:23them do if you're going to pour millions of dollars into analytics how the hell can the weather report
04:30not be part of that you have information on angles that players take you have information
04:40very light on experience you're at home the crowd wants to really be in it you take the points
04:46analytics you're tapping into my biggest thing with analytics which is the fact that analytics
04:52cannot account for what's actually going on in that situation right you can't tell me that well
04:57analytics said go for on fourth and one well did you tell analytics that bo nix is hurt did you tell
05:03analytics that the defense knows damn well you're going to run the ball right because your quarterback's
05:07never played before does analytics know and if analytics doesn't know that then it's irrelevant
05:11irrelevant totally totally and completely irrelevant
05:14irrelevant
