00:00We're sitting here talking about just the general idea of quarterbacking.
00:03Do you want a $50 million to $60 million quarterback?
00:07Or would you rather have the great head coach who just builds the system?
00:12I mean, again, everybody wants both.
00:14You want Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.
00:16That's ideal.
00:17Be cool.
00:18That would be pretty cool.
00:19You win a bunch of Super Bowls.
00:20That's fun.
00:23Belichick and Brady, I mean, same thing.
00:25I think this is core to how I feel about Kyle Shanahan,
00:30why I've been such a big fan for so long.
00:32I think if you have him, unless everything goes wrong in a year like last year,
00:36for example, you're going to consistently at least be relevant.
00:40I don't know if you're going to be a contender, win the whole thing,
00:42that hasn't happened yet, blah, blah, blah.
00:44But you're in it because, yes, multiple people can run your system
00:51and have, air quotes, success.
00:56Now, how do you maximize that and who's the best at it
01:00and who's available to you at that time?
01:02You and I had the debate earlier this week,
01:05well, should the Niners, like, never pay a quarterback?
01:07Should they just turn this over every year or two?
01:10I think that that would be impossible to actually execute.
01:13Very dangerous.
01:14I think that you'd get fired once upon a time.
01:16So, no, like, I'm still firmly in Brock Purdy's corner,
01:21but I get it when you start looking around the league and you go,
01:24man, we salivate after some of these quarterbacks.
01:27They've never made the Super Bowl.
01:28They've never even made it.
01:29They've never gone where Brock Purdy and Nick Foles and Joe Flacco have gone.
01:35So then it led to your deep dive.
01:38Each team and how many quarterbacks have started for them
01:42at least one game since 2010.
01:44Yeah, and I'm looking at Kansas City right now,
01:47and Kansas City is at 11 quarterbacks who have started for them.
01:51And, you know, they went through a time where they had Haley
01:54and then Romeo Cronell as the head coach,
01:56and then they got a guy named Andy Reid,
01:59and Alex Smith was the quarterback,
02:01and he was really good for Kansas City.
02:04And they lost the division, they lost the division,
02:06they lost the wild card,
02:07and then they replaced him with Patrick Mahomes.
02:11They lost the conference, they won the bowl,
02:13lost the bowl, lost the conference, won the bowl,
02:15won the bowl, lost the bowl.
02:16And so, is Mahomes the sauce?
02:19Of course he is.
02:20But Andy Reid is one of the greatest coaches of all time.
02:24So, unbelievable coach,
02:26unbelievable quarterback,
02:27and consistency.
02:29And that's what made me do this deep dive,
02:30and I was wondering if the bad teams
02:33are those that really have a lot of upheaval
02:36on both coach and quarterback,
02:39and they are, and then I looked at the Niners,
02:41and they are dead on league average
02:43in how many quarterbacks they've had
02:44who started since 2010.
02:47Okay.
02:47The number is 14, guys.
02:48And then you also said there's one quarterback
02:50who has started at least a game
02:52for eight different teams?
02:54And he is one of the 14.
02:56Oh.
02:58So, the Niners...
02:58Okay, all right.
03:00So, let me try the Niners first.
03:01All roads lead to...
03:03As I'm going through,
03:04I went through all 32 teams,
03:06and a couple of names kept popping up,
03:07including this one guy who...
03:10I'm like, oh, I knew he started for the Niners,
03:12but he started for seven other teams as well.
03:16Really?
03:16Since 2010.
03:19Oh.
03:19This man's been...
03:20He's been starting now.
03:21All right, all right, all right, all right.
03:23All right.
03:23Okay, let me give this a shot.
03:25Ladies and gentlemen, this is Mark Willard.
03:2714 quarterbacks have started for the Niners since 2010.
03:31And you have way more faith in me on this than I do.
03:35I got the over-under for you at 11 and a half.
03:37I put it at 9 and a half.
03:38For Grandy, I thought he would get all 14,
03:40and he's locked up right now and there.
03:42Apparently, yeah, you're missing one.
03:43I got 13.
03:44I turned to Lucas for help.
03:45We got 14 together.
03:47Okay, okay.
03:48No crowdsourcing.
03:49No, that's fine.
03:50I'm going to need help.
03:51Internet, Lucas.
03:52Actually, no.
03:53Oh, impressive.
03:54Like, what happens if I get one wrong?
03:56Do I get, like, some leeway here?
03:58Okay.
03:58All right.
03:59Let's start with the obvious ones.
04:00All right.
04:01All right.
04:01Brock Purdy.
04:02Matt Jones.
04:05Sam Darnold.
04:08Brandon Allen.
04:10And did Josh Dobbs start a game?
04:12Yeah.
04:12Are you asking me or are you guessing?
04:14Josh Dobbs.
04:14That was so passive-aggressive.
04:16No, Josh Dobbs.
04:17Yeah.
04:17Stay hot.
04:18Stay hot, kid.
04:19Five down, nine to go.
04:20All right.
04:23Okay.
04:23Trey Lance.
04:24You were there.
04:27Yes, I was.
04:28And Jimmy Garoppolo.
04:29Yeah.
04:29All right.
04:30So there's half of them.
04:31See ya.
04:32Right out the gate.
04:33Yep.
04:33All right.
04:34Now's where, and now we got to go.
04:36So, okay.
04:37Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick.
04:39Yep.
04:40You're right.
04:40I probably should have guessed more than that.
04:42All right.
04:43Nick Mullins.
04:45That's 10.
04:46You are missing four.
04:47CJ Beathard.
04:48That's 11.
04:50All right.
04:51Now, see, now that, I knew I could do that.
04:54That was the like.
04:55And, Grandy, you had all these 11, right?
04:57Of course you did.
04:58The one you didn't have, I think, is still to come.
04:59Okay.
05:00And I know who it is.
05:01So there's three more.
05:02Correct.
05:03There's three more.
05:06And, okay.
05:08I'm going to do it as a question again.
05:12Did Josh Johnson ever get a start?
05:16Is that a guess?
05:17It's a guess.
05:18Give it to him.
05:19All right.
05:19I'll just throw that one out there.
05:21I didn't think he did.
05:22No.
05:23All right.
05:23Josh Johnson.
05:24The one that started for eight different teams has not been named yet.
05:28Is that correct?
05:28That is, in fact, correct, Mark Randy.
05:30And you had that one, I think.
05:32That's not the one you were missing, is it?
05:34Right.
05:34No, I had that one.
05:35Okay.
05:36Yeah.
05:36At least I think I do.
05:38All right.
05:38Ba-da-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba.
05:40My problem also is, like.
05:42Time frame.
05:43Well, yeah.
05:44Like, to me, because I'm 50, I think everything happened after 2010.
05:50I'm over here like, Jeff Garcia!
05:52Yeah, no, I know.
05:55That was a pretend guess.
05:56You're going to pretend buzz.
05:57When did J.T. O'Sullivan start?
06:02When was that?
06:04I mean.
06:05Is that a guess?
06:05I don't know.
06:06Sure.
06:07J.T.
06:07Okay.
06:08When was that?
06:0908.
06:0908.
06:10All right.
06:10At least it was close.
06:11Ballpark-y.
06:12Jeez.
06:13All right.
06:14All right.
06:14All right.
06:15All right.
06:15All right.
06:15All right.
06:18Yeah.
06:20This is not going to go well.
06:22No, it's tough.
06:23And, yeah.
06:26Okay.
06:27Oh, boy.
06:28Yeah.
06:28Yeah.
06:30Garoppolo.
06:31And then before Garoppolo.
06:32Can I give you a small clue?
06:35Sure.
06:36Chip Kelly was the head coach.
06:40Chip Kelly.
06:41I slept through that, those two years.
06:44Yeah.
06:45You sure did.
06:45We all did.
06:46They went 2-14.
06:47And one of these guys.
06:49Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
06:52Brian Hoyer.
06:53Yeah!
06:54That actually was not the Tom Sula year.
06:57I don't know why that just popped into my head.
07:00He's the guy who started for eight of the teams.
07:02Brian Hoyer.
07:03Yes.
07:04I've been texting him for the last three weeks.
07:06He won't respond.
07:07It'd be cool if he came on for this vid.
07:08Freaking guy.
07:09He's bought me a drink before, but he won't return my text.
07:12That hurts.
07:13I'll tell that story later.
07:15Two more to go.
07:17Yeah.
07:17I mean, rather than dead air, I sort of want to tap out.
07:21Yeah.
07:21Like, I don't.
07:23Yeah.
07:23Go ahead.
07:24Brandy, who else did you know before Lucas came in and saved you?
07:28Blaine Gabbert.
07:29Yes.
07:30Oh, Blaine Gabbert.
07:31That was the Chip Kelly year.
07:33Yo, Gabba Gabbert.
07:34And the one that I thought for sure that nobody would get, Grandy?
07:39Troy Smith.
07:40Troy Smith.
07:41Oh, for Christ's sake.
07:41Lucas got that one, actually.
07:43Attaboy, Lucas.
07:43I don't feel bad about that at all.
07:462010, it was Smith and Smith.
07:49Yeah.
07:50Alex for 10.
07:51I remember that now.
07:52Troy for six.
07:52Okay.
07:53But the point is, they've had 14 quarterbacks start games, and it's a little bit skewed because
07:58Darnold won, Allen won, Dobbs won.
08:01These are like stopgap and end of the year mop-up type of guys, but that is dead on league
08:07average.
08:07And, you know, the teams that have a lot more, like Chicago, 18, the Raiders, 16, so many
08:15of these other teams that are really dysfunctional, they have a lot more.
08:18Can Fancy Grandy name the eight teams that Brian Hoyer has started for?
08:23No chance.
08:23Okay.
08:24You could probably do pretty well.
08:26I mean, Niners, Browns.
08:28Niners and Browns.
08:30I know Niners and Browns.
08:31I'm just going to assume Bears because they've started everybody.
08:34Is that true?
08:35I think so.
08:38You know, and you've also got Patriots.
08:41Patriots.
08:41He for sure started for the Patriots, but it, just as I was going through these lists,
08:46it's like, oh my God, Hoyer started for them?
08:49My gosh.
08:49He started for just about everybody.
08:53Arizona, I believe.
08:54Yeah, I'm looking at this now.
08:56He's played for the Texans.
08:57Patriots.
08:58I don't know if he started for all of these teams.
09:00Arizona, Cleveland, Houston.
09:02Patriots, Steelers, Cardinals, Browns, Texans, Bears.
09:05Niners, Patriots again, Colts.
09:07Yep.
09:08Patriots again, Raiders.
09:09Oh, Raiders.
09:11Wow.
09:13Yeah.
09:14He's a good dude.
09:16Yeah.
09:16Great guy.
09:17And going through these 32 teams and all their starters, there are probably 25 or 30 names.
09:25I could throw out, we could play a game of starting quarterback or like U.S. Senator,
09:31and you probably would not go 50%.
09:33This is so entertaining to me.
09:35I want, I feel good.
09:36I want to let everyone know.
09:37I didn't use the text line.
09:39If I had looked up, I would have gotten all the answers.
09:42Okay.
09:42Thank you on the Boxer and Gerson Work Injury Attorneys text line.
09:45Y'all were trying, except for some of you also sent in some really funny stuff.
09:50One of them wrote, Brian Homer.
09:53That's an autocorrect.
09:55Hoyer autocorrects to Homer.
09:58707 says, Willard never said Purdy.
10:01LOL.
10:02I started with Brock Purdy.
10:04But yeah, there's a bunch of Troy Smith, Blaine Gabbard, Brian Hoyer, all on here.
10:10Yeah.
10:12Someone wrote Troy Smith with a question mark.
10:14So some of us like to guess with a question mark.
10:16I like it.
10:16It's okay.
10:17The Browns have a Connor Shaw, an Austin Davis, a...
10:22I don't even remember Connor Shaw.
10:24Kevin Hogan, Stanford.
10:25He got a game.
10:26And then wasn't that, who's that, PJ something started?
10:30PJ Walker.
10:31PJ Walker.
10:32I always want to call him PJ Tucker.
10:34Jeff Driscoll, drafted by the Niners.
10:36Niners, yeah.
10:37Nick Mullins, actually.
10:39Sure.
10:39A forever Browns.
10:40Sure.
10:40He's started in multiple places.
10:42Remember Dorian Thompson Robinson left?
10:44DTR, dog.
10:45Yeah.
10:46So as you go through with the Deshaun Kaisers and the rest of it, Johnny Manziel, you realize
10:51that stable team, stable situation usually equals winning.
