00:00The 49ers are 6-3.
00:02It's a victory Monday.
00:04The dumb Rams are coming to town this week.
00:07Ooh, Rams week.
00:10The Warriors will play twice over the next 48 hours.
00:13The trade deadline is less than 24 hours away.
00:16The Warriors' summit is on Thursday.
00:18Do you catch a drift?
00:19It's, again, a week where we got a lot going on.
00:25A lot going on.
00:26The Boxer and Gerson work injury attorney's text line brings up Max Crosby
00:32with regard to the trade deadline.
00:35Boy, the Niners are in a tough spot, man.
00:38I feel like the Niners are in a tough spot.
00:41Anytime you have a fence in between your legs, it hurts.
00:47And that's exactly where the Niners have to be.
00:50I'm sorry to say it.
00:51So those of you bringing up Max Crosby, no.
00:54I don't think Max Crosby's even available.
00:58And the 49ers are not going to give up buckets of first and second round draft picks
01:02to go get a pass rusher to support a team that is without a bunch of its best players.
01:08They just won't do it.
01:09And I reject completely because, like text line just said, 5-1-0.
01:13I'm all in on Max Crosby.
01:14Niners don't do well on first and second rounders anyway.
01:17First of all, not completely true.
01:19Second of all, you don't operate a football team that way.
01:23You don't just be like, we're not going to do first and second round draft picks ever.
01:28So personally, I don't think they think that way.
01:31I wouldn't think that way.
01:33But what the 49ers have said that they will do is if something makes sense
01:38and somebody can contribute to them both this year and beyond this year,
01:43then they will look at it.
01:45But they are also mindful of keeping and making a lot of their draft picks
01:49because they're going to need cheap labor as they pay Brock Purdy, Fred Warner,
01:53and George Kittle and others, Diomano Lenore, into the future.
01:58And so where does that leave you?
02:02It would leave you in a spot of we're not doing anything except for you're 6-3
02:07and you're 3-0 in the division.
02:09So that's how I would describe it.
02:11If someone asked between now and 1 o'clock tomorrow at the trade deadline,
02:15what do you think the Niners are going to do?
02:16I'm going to say the Niners have to do something.
02:19But they can't do much because it would just be the wrong thing to do,
02:23and I don't even know if it's available anyway.
02:25It's going to be more of a Keyon White, Cleland Furl,
02:28than it is a Max Crosby or any other fill-in-the-blank dream defensive tackle
02:34or defensive end.
02:35Quinn and Williams, that's not happening.
02:37I don't believe that the 49ers are going to be big game hunting.
02:41To me, it's more likely that they're going to do more of what they've already done,
02:45which is use late, late round draft picks or early day three,
02:49fourth or fifth rounders,
02:50and try to bring in somebody who can help them be a rotational piece.
02:54And you saw Cleland Furl come in in his first game back as a Niner,
02:58and he made an impact.
03:00He had a couple of tackles in the run game.
03:01He had the one sack that was a coverage sack,
03:03but he didn't give up on the play.
03:05And, man, I thought that that ball was coming out.
03:08I don't know how the hell he held on to it.
03:10That was incredible.
03:10I mean, he's got to come in with the chop on that.
03:12Jackson Dart is completely oblivious to the fact that a 6'5",
03:17D-end, former first-rounder in his own right,
03:20he's coming.
03:21He's coming strong from the backside.
03:23And I can't believe that ball didn't come out.
03:25But I do think that that, at the deadline tomorrow between now and then,
03:29you're looking at more of those types of moves, I think,
03:31as opposed to them using a first or second round pick
03:34and bringing in a real big boy.
03:35I'm going to predict Keyon White plus,
03:39and I don't mean more players.
03:41I get what you're saying.
03:42I think it's going to be a little bigger than that.
03:45A little bigger than that.
03:46What did they give up for White?
03:48Did they move from the 6th to the 7th?
03:50Yeah.
03:50Is that what it was?
03:51Yep.
03:52That's kind of your...
03:52They got a 7th.
03:53They gave a 6th.
03:54Right.
03:54So that's your classic nothing burger deal.
03:58Like, your classic nothing burger deal,
04:00and there have been a few of them so far this week in the NFL,
04:02is where you're like,
04:04we want this person,
04:05and the other team is like,
04:07well, we don't even want them.
04:09And it's like, well, we have to do something
04:11in order to make this a trade.
04:12We're not going to just release this person
04:14and give them to you.
04:16So that's what you do.
04:17You swap a 6th and a 7th.
04:18You move down 20 picks,
04:20and you grab the player.
04:22I think the Niners can and should
04:25do something more significant than that.
04:29Straight giving up a 4, 5, or a 6.
04:32One of those three rounds.
04:34With nothing in return other than the player,
04:36and that player needs to be somebody
04:38who has more than just this year on their deal,
04:42and that player needs to be somewhat accomplished
04:44at tackling a quarterback.
04:47That, like, they get Bryce Huff back this week,
04:49that'll feel like one acquisition,
04:52but they need more,
04:53and they're going to still,
04:55you said this earlier,
04:56and it's where my brain goes, too.
04:59It's like, you can't just grab one or two people
05:01and then be like, good,
05:02now we're good for the rest of the year,
05:03and act like over the next eight games
05:05you're not going to have more injuries.
05:07Like, of course you will.
05:09Look at how this has gone so far.
05:11You know, who's to say Bryce Huff
05:13isn't going to re-injure
05:14whatever he's got going on?
05:15When he eventually comes back.
05:17Right.
05:17Which hopefully is this weekend.
05:18Supposed to be this week.
05:19You got Mike L. Williams now gone.
05:21ACL.
05:22You already lost Bosa,
05:23so right now you've got Jordan Elliott,
05:26Kalia Davis,
05:26who quietly has made every start this year.
05:29Sam Okawonu,
05:30who's playing on a hurt ankle,
05:32and he's still doing great,
05:33but then you get into,
05:34you know, rookies and undrafted guys
05:37and practice squad people.
05:39You need more bodies,
05:40more people who can actually get out there
05:42and run around and tackle.
05:43And the thing about it, too, Mark,
05:45is if you look at the Niners' upcoming draft,
05:48they've got a comp pick coming for
05:49Charverius Ward in the fourth round,
05:51Aaron Banks, a fourth rounder,
05:53and a fifth rounder for Hufanga.
05:55So those are three picks
05:56you're already going to get added to your coffers.
05:59So you've got picks that you can afford to
06:01part with in that fourth and fifth round.
06:04Yeah, absolutely.
06:05And, again, I get also where they're,
06:07I don't think the Niners should be flippant with this,
06:10but six and three is an achievement.
06:14And I do not care who was on the schedule.
06:18And I think it's a funny take anyway.
06:20It's a funny take anyway.
06:21Why are they six and three?
06:22Well, their schedule sucks.
06:23Well, they won on the road at two teams
06:25that are both six and two in their division.
06:28So are you making the point that those were easy?
06:32Those weren't easy.
06:33Those were not easy.
06:36In fact, if you go back to the way we looked at this schedule
06:39before the year even started,
06:42a couple of things show up.
06:44First of all, you probably lost some of the games
06:47that you thought were part of the easy schedule thing.
06:51Right?
06:52You weren't thinking that Jacksonville at home
06:55was going to be hard.
06:56That was one of the games that you were like,
06:58well, that's a win.
07:00Plus, we called it an easy schedule
07:02without realizing that this is what the division would look like.
07:05Some people thought the Rams would be really good.
07:07I get that.
07:08Nobody thought the Seahawks would be this good.
07:10Nobody thought that at this point in the year
07:12the NFC West would have three six-win teams.
07:16Very, very important to me.
07:18And I don't think we can forget.
07:20It's not just six and three.
07:22It's six and three, three and O in the division
07:26with two of those being on the road
07:29against two teams that are both six and two.
07:32That is a huge achievement.
07:34Six and one in the conference.
07:36Unbelievable.
07:37Yep.
07:37You can't undersell that.
07:39And you can't, I think, also blow off
07:45all the adversity that has happened during those nine games.
07:48And at least hope for less adversity in the eight that remain.
07:52And if that's the case, then dude,
07:55playoffs are sitting there for you.
07:56Do you agree or disagree?
07:57Ten wins is probably going to get you a spot.
07:59I've been saying that all along.
08:00Okay.
08:00And I think that at six and three,
08:02and you've got eight to go,
08:03I think that 11 wins is very much in play.
08:06Totally.
08:06You're more likely to win 12 than you are to win nine.
08:09Agreed.
08:10I'll just say that.
08:10Agreed.
08:10And if 10 wins is going to get you in,
08:13right now, you've got a hard time
08:15looking at the rest of the schedule
08:16and thinking they're not going to get to 10.
08:18Boy, some stuff would really have to go haywire
08:20for them not to get to 10, I think.
08:22I mean, four and four.
08:23And I do think that there are tougher games out there
08:26than what we thought.
08:27And going into the year,
08:28and I did this before the start of the year,
08:30the Niners opponents this year,
08:32last year's record combined
08:34to have a 4-15 winning percentage.
08:37In other words,
08:37the Niners, based on last year's record,
08:40had the easiest schedule in football
08:42based on what teams did last year.
08:44Yep.
08:44Okay.
08:44That's a fact.
08:45Well, then now you look at those teams
08:47where we sit today,
08:49and Jacksonville is better than everyone thought,
08:52five and three.
08:53Carolina, for God's sakes, is five and four.
08:55Yep.
08:55And Chicago is five and three.
08:57Chicago is five and three.
08:57So those are two of the three teams I mentioned.
08:59You still have to play.
09:00Tampa, I think, maybe people thought was going to be good,
09:02but not six and two good.
09:04Six and two.
09:04Yeah.
09:05So if you look at the record of the teams
09:07that you will play or you have played,
09:09it's much higher than the 4-15
09:11that those teams accrued last year.
09:13And you left out Indy.
09:14You left out seven and two Indy.
09:16Of course.
09:17Which, like, is on the schedule.
09:18Double Seattle and double the L.A.
09:20Six and two twice.
09:21And I haven't done the math on where it sits right now,
09:24but if you add up the records right now
09:27of the teams that you have played and will play,
09:30it's much higher than a 4-15 winning percentage.
09:32No question about it.
09:33So your schedule turned out to be much harder
09:35than what it looked like back in August.
09:37Yeah, Grandy, what's up?
09:38You guys are talking about potential targets
09:40for the Niners at the trade deadline
09:41before tomorrow's 1 o'clock trade deadline.
09:43Yes, sir.
09:43I know earlier today, Jalen Phillips,
09:45the Dolphins traded to the Eagles.
09:47Edge rusher, another one just went down.
09:49The Ravens are trading for Titans edge Draymond Jones,
09:53sending a conditional fifth rounder
09:55that could potentially be a fourth.
09:57Draymond Jones has four and a half sacks
09:59in nine games so far this year.
10:01So conditional fifth, potentially a fourth,
10:05is the price for someone like Draymond Jones.
10:06And that's the kind of deal I think that the Niners
10:09not only could make, should make.
10:11That's the kind of deal.
10:12And I'm not like a Draymond Jones expert.
10:15I'm not going to blow smoke up your wahoo,
10:16but four and a half sacks in the last four games,
10:19okay, again, somebody who has a resume that says,
10:23I know how to go around a fat person
10:26and capture a quarterback.
10:28That's, that's, the Niners need that.
10:31They need that.
10:31Somebody who actually does that now,
10:33and yes, fifth rounder that could become a fourth.
10:37That's exactly the kind of deal I'm talking about.
10:40No Max Crosby's, no Hendrickson's, none of that stuff.
10:44But this is the kind of player I think the Niners
10:46has got to go get.
10:46And I think that they need one of those,
10:48and they also need another Cleland Furrell type,
10:50which is, hey, you on the practice squad,
10:53we want you.
10:53We're going to go ahead and add you to our roster
10:55and just to have more depth and more people
10:58who can get out there and do it.
10:59And if Bryce Huff is able to come back this weekend,
11:01if not next weekend, whenever it is,
11:04he's a guy I think who can absolutely help you
11:07to get after the quarterback.
11:08And yesterday, you didn't totally shake up Jackson Dart,
11:12but you had a couple of plays where you had him get off his spot
11:15and you had a couple of sacks and you had more hits on him.
11:18So at least yesterday,
11:19they were starting to trend in the right direction.
11:21The pick is in 20 minutes, by the way,
11:24Cowboys and Cardinals tonight.
11:26Kyla Murray is officially inactive.
11:29Inactive.
11:30Okay.
11:30So he will be also, like you and I,
11:33in a hoodie for tonight's game
11:36against them Dallas Cowboys at Jerry's World.
11:40Okay, Matt in San Rafael, next up.
11:41Hi, Matt.
11:42Thanks for the call.
11:42What's up?
11:44Hey, guys.
11:46So I've been listening and agreeing with a lot of what you're saying.
11:51I think one of the issues is the Niners don't need one player.
11:54The Niners need two, three, or maybe even four
11:58because they need defensive ends.
12:01I think they need a defensive tackle.
12:03And I honestly think they could use another linebacker
12:06because they just keep losing, guys.
12:08I think they have one defensive lineman
12:11who has not been hurt this year.
12:12Everyone else is either out for the air
12:15or who has missed games.
12:18So the concern I have is they have to nibble.
12:21They have to take players that can fill roles
12:24that can actually play
12:25versus one guy who's going to really move the needle.
12:30The other thing is, and I hate to say this
12:32because I love the Niners,
12:33I just don't think that when push comes to shove,
12:37they're going to be able to go toe-to-toe with the Eagles,
12:41with the stupid Seahawks, and the Rams,
12:45unless something happens to those teams
12:47because they look really good.
12:50And I'm not even mentioning Detroit.
12:53It's just given the attrition and the injuries that they've got,
12:57particularly key positions, particularly important players,
13:00I just don't think that when the Bullets really start to fly
13:05in the playoffs, they're going to be able to hang with those guys.
13:07Yeah, it's interesting, Matt.
13:09Let me ask you real quick.
13:10Oh, he left.
13:11It's funny.
13:12Well, you're not going to compete with the Seahawks and Rams.
13:15You mean the two teams they already beat?
13:16Yeah.
13:16Now, I know Fred Warner played in those football games.
13:19Yeah.
13:19And Nick Bosa not only played in one of those games,
13:23Nick Bosa made the deciding play in one of those games.
13:26He did, yeah.
13:26So that's a completely fair response, I think.
13:28I think that those are TBD-type questions.
13:33But I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.
13:36You've got to remember, we always call this a week-to-week league.
13:40And then we go, but they can't compete with those guys.
13:42Well, actually, what the 49ers have created is a spot where they don't need
13:48to compete with them over a long haul.
13:52And here's what I mean by that.
13:54You need to win this weekend.
13:57That's all.
13:58Yep.
13:59You just need to win this weekend at your place.
14:03Whose house?
14:04Your house.
14:05That's all you have to do.
14:06Home dog.
14:07And that, I get it.
14:08Home dog.
14:09But it doesn't mean, listen, it's not an easy game.
14:13It doesn't mean they're supposed to win all that.
14:15But anybody watch football yesterday and see anything surprising?
14:19Yeah.
14:20You know what I mean?
14:20Like, if you win this game, that's going to change the entire framework
14:25of the NFC West.
14:27You will have swept the Rams, and you will be ahead of the Rams,
14:31and you will have what appear to be some somewhat friendly things
14:35on your schedule the rest of the way.
14:37Again, with this idea, can the Niners go 4-4 the rest of the way?
14:41Well, without even knowing, I don't know who's healthy, who's not,
14:45and I don't have look-ahead lines in front of me,
14:48but I would argue that the 49ers, at minimum,
14:52are going to be favored in five of the eight games.
14:56At minimum.
14:57I don't know who will be favored in the last game of the year here
15:00against the Seahawks.
15:02Pretty sure.
15:03Depends if it matters and for whom it matters.
15:04Right, but dogs this weekend against the Rams,
15:07there'll be dogs at Indianapolis.
15:10Other than that, am I wrong?
15:12They're favored in the rest, right?
15:13I think so.
15:14At Arizona, favored?
15:15Yeah, favored.
15:16Home to Carolina, favored?
15:18Favored, yeah.
15:18At Cleveland, favored?
15:20Yeah.
15:21Home to Tennessee, I don't even need to ask.
15:23Nope.
15:23Home to Chicago, favored?
15:25Yeah, favored.
15:25Favored.
15:26You'll be favored in five of these games.
15:27No doubt.
15:27You can blow one of them and lose the three where you might be the dog,
15:31and you still are going to the playoffs.
15:33You still have ten wins, no doubt.
15:35And based on your conference record and your division record,
15:38you have a lot of tiebreakers in your favor right now.
15:41And whether or not you're favored or not,
15:43the Cleveland game to me, and I don't want to tip the pick already,
15:47but that's a scheduled loss.
15:49And I said this when the schedule came out back in May or whatever, June.
15:52It's game 13 in a row, and it's on the road, and it's Cleveland.
15:56And it's a short week.
15:57And it's a short week.
15:58And that, I mean, if you want to add all those things up,
16:00yeah, you might be favored, but oh boy, that's going to be a very difficult game.
16:05The last one of the year, we don't know who it's going to matter for.
16:08It might not matter for either.
16:09It might be for the division, as far as we know.
16:12The toughest game, though, on the schedule is coming up on Sunday,
16:15and it's the Rams in a revenge spot.
16:18And it's a game that really both teams understand that
16:22it won't necessarily decide the division,
16:24but the Rams are thinking if we don't win this game,
16:27well, we're probably not going to beat the Niners in the division.
16:30And for the Niners, you're thinking if we win this one
16:33and you get to 7-3 and 4-0 in the division,
16:36now we're not totally playing with house money,
16:38but that would be a huge game in their pocket.
16:41What is the number this weekend?
16:42I think it's 3-1⁄2 is what I saw.
16:44Ooh, field goal plus for the Rams.
16:47Yeah, I think it's still 3-1⁄2.
16:49Depends where you shop.
16:50Yeah, currently sitting at 3-1⁄2.
16:513-1⁄2.
16:52Yeah.
16:53That's an interesting number.
16:54It's very interesting.
16:55That's also the number for tonight's game.
16:57Ooh.
16:58We got a game tonight?
16:59Oh.
17:00The pick is in.
