"You're supposed to beat down a team like the Carolina Panthers" #NFL HoF Ty Law joins! "Like I said before... We got us a quarterback"
Transcript
00:00Good morning, Ty Law.
00:02Good morning, guys. How you doing?
00:04Well, we're doing great.
00:06Patriots did great on Sunday.
00:09The argument that I heard throughout the day yesterday was big whoop.
00:14They beat up on a really bad Carolina Panthers team.
00:18How do you feel about that?
00:21And I will double down on that.
00:24And look, it is a great win.
00:26Don't get me wrong.
00:26But you're supposed to beat down a team like the Carolina Panthers.
00:30I think that's going to bring confidence within the locker room.
00:33As I said before, we got us a quarterback, man.
00:36Drake May is efficient.
00:38I love the way he plays.
00:39He spreads the ball around.
00:40He uses his legs.
00:42We got us a damn quarterback.
00:43I want to repeat myself again.
00:45I know I said it last week, but you're supposed to beat a team like the Carolina Panthers.
00:48And if you didn't beat them by this type of margin, you're not very good yourself.
00:55So they did exactly what they're supposed to do.
00:57And Ty, not only do they have a quarterback, they also had a quarterback out there in Christian Gonzalez.
01:03So how did you think he looked his first game back?
01:06He was a little rusty as expected, but I think just his presence alone is going to help the overall team and especially the defense.
01:14I think they still have some holes back there.
01:16And he's going to be the guy, once he gets his feet up under him, he's going to make a huge impact.
01:22But he was a little rusty.
01:23I did see that.
01:24Ty, finally, we didn't have an issue when it came to turnovers.
01:27Do you feel like that's just because it was against Carolina?
01:30Or do you think Mike Rabel's figured out a secret sauce to get them all on the same page and have them turn the page on that issue?
01:36Well, probably a secret sauce is the threat.
01:42If you fumble again, you ain't going to get the ball no more.
01:44You ain't going to play.
01:45So, I mean, that's enough threat right there.
01:47Because I know that's the type of guy Mike Rabel is because he's from the Bill Belichick mode.
01:51And if you turn the ball over and if you give him back the ball, especially as a runner or a pass catcher, you fumble, you won't get the ball.
01:59So that's enough threat in itself.
02:01So I don't think it's a secret sauce.
02:03It's an individual thing when you turn the ball over like that.
02:07But, I mean, it's a great win.
02:09Don't get me wrong.
02:10But I want to see it against a better team.
02:13Well, I mean, he certainly didn't adopt that philosophy this week because he went right to Ramondre Stevenson's first play of scrimmage offense-wise.
02:24Oh, yeah.
02:25That's to prove a point.
02:26Hey, I believe in you and I trust you.
02:28But guess what?
02:29Do it again.
02:31That was one of them things, Jay.
02:32You better not do it again.
02:33That's when you know how your mama, you know, put – leave some cookies in the cookie jar and say you better not, you know, touch the cookie.
02:40It's up to you if you touch the cookie or not.
02:42You know what I mean?
02:43Or she might just give it to you to see what you're going to do with it, see if you're going to lie to her.
02:47So, basically, Mike Rabel, it was a psychological thing, because you don't want him to lose confidence.
02:53But at the same time, you want to make it a point that say we can't depend on you, so I'm going to give you the ball again.
02:58Show me what you can do.
02:59So, I mean, I think that's good coaching right there.
03:01Give him the ball early.
03:03Ty, when you look at this team, if they could continue this through the next several weeks – and I've asked this question before.
03:11I've brought it up.
03:12They'll be in a position where they could have a very good record right before the trade deadline.
03:19Is that the point in time when – I know I say we, but is that the point in time where they have to make a legitimate move?
03:27And I'm going to keep beating this drum until they do it.
03:29Go out and get a legitimate number one wide receiver if they're in a position where, say, they're six and three come, you know, right before the trade deadline.
03:39My question is, how are you going to get a legitimate number one wide receiver?
03:46Who's out there?
03:47Who's available?
03:47What are you going to give up?
03:49And that's the thing.
03:50Like, do they have any assets to give up to get that so-called number one wide receiver?
03:55The good thing is that we've seen the little flashes of the old Steph all day.
03:59He had 100 yards.
04:00You know what I mean?
04:00So they're winning without that right now, and we've won in the past without having those 1,000-yard receivers.
04:07Of course, we had Tom Brady, but, again, Drake May is showing that he is Tom Brady-esque when it comes to, you know,
04:15spreading the ball around and making the right plays.
04:18So I don't think you necessarily have to have a number one to be successful,
04:23but I think you will be a lot more successful if you did.
04:26But Stephon, he had a pretty good game, and any time you get 100 yards as a receiver,
04:32that brings more confidence and brings out that swag that we're used to seeing him have.
04:36So hopefully he can continue that.
04:38Ty, obviously you just said that you want to see what they can do against a better team.
04:43They'll have that this weekend with the Bills.
04:45You want to win, but obviously you're the underdog.
04:48What would be a successful game for them if they can't get a W?
04:52Because it's a rivalry within the division and had all this history, damn it, a win.
05:01We ain't going to do that, Coco.
05:03We ain't going to say, hey, go out there and have a good game.
05:06It's a win for the team.
05:07Oh, hell no.
05:08This is the Buffalo Bills.
05:09You've got to go out there and whoop their ass.
05:11I mean, so I'm not going to give them you've got to have a good game,
05:15and if you keep it close because it's Josh Allen, because of the Buffalo Bills,
05:19and all the hype, you've got to go out there and win,
05:22and that's the only way, in my opinion, especially because it's within the division.
05:27Ty, do you think Josh Allen is the best quarterback in the NFL right now?
05:33I mean, overall, yes.
05:34I think he is the best quarterback in the NFL, but, you know,
05:38you've got to step up as a defense.
05:40I mean, he's playing all around good football.
05:42We know what type of talent he is,
05:44but I also think that Drake may, you know, some may disagree,
05:48but I think he's playing top 10 quarterback right now
05:51because of what he's working with, you know what I mean?
05:53And he's young, so I believe in the quarterback that we have,
05:57and the team must believe that we have a quarterback.
06:00Yeah, he may not be Josh Allen, but we have us a quarterback too,
06:05and if we step up and play as a team, we can take down anybody,
06:08especially the Buffalo Bills.
06:10You've got to go in there, basically, we're saying,
06:12and I ain't respecting y'all ass today, and it's time to play.
06:16Ty, I give the Bills, I think they're a good football team,
06:19but the thing I've, and I've said this before,
06:21the thing I've noticed this year about football is there's so much parity.
06:24Like, I don't think there's a dominant team in the NFL
06:27that the Patriots should be scared of.
06:30Okay, so I was going to ask, do you feel that same way?
06:35I feel the exact same way.
06:37There is no one that is playing dominant football.
06:40We all thought in the preseason, we had Baltimore,
06:43hey, they got to be an AFC championship.
06:45We had Kansas City.
06:47I mean, ain't nobody looking great right now.
06:49So it is early in the season.
06:51You would think some of those veteran teams would have figured it out
06:55and it would carry over, but obviously it didn't.
06:57Some of the younger teams and the younger quarterbacks,
07:00they're getting better.
07:01So I love it, and I think it's good for the game that it's a lot of parity
07:04and all the expectations of the elite guys, the name guys,
07:10all pros, the big money guys, they're just looking,
07:14some of them looking like average players at this point.
07:16You know what I mean?
07:17So I think that's good for the league, but no one is standing out,
07:20and I think that you can't really predict a true Super Bowl contender
07:26at this point in the year.
07:27because basically every tailgate now for the Corvus tailgate,
07:31we're going to do the swear jar for the Greg Hill Foundation.
07:35So come on to the Corvus tent, you know, say what you got to say,
07:38and it's going to a good cause.
07:40So we're going to curse for a cause at the tailgate
07:42for the Greg Hill Foundation.
07:44I got to tell you, we had a fantastic time at the event with you on Saturday,
07:49and you know who really enjoyed it is our boss, Len.
07:54Yeah, I know.
07:55Hey, I had too much Corvus.
07:58I said, Len, I said, when you sit there and say it, I'm like, oh, man,
08:02that was the second time I did that because I called a friend of mine.
08:06I called him Rob, and he was Tom.
08:08I said the Corvus was flowing, guys, so I apologize.
08:11Hey, I apologize about that, kid.
08:13I mean, that could be our thing.
08:15We can call you Len when we're messing with you, man.
08:17But, hey, my apologies, and I hope that don't mess up the negotiations.
08:22You just referred to him as a friend,
08:24so I think that makes up for it.
08:26I mean, it's a good thing.
08:27I mean, going into any negotiation, it's good to know the other person's name.
08:31Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely, man.
08:34But, hey, I just wanted to say thank you guys for showing up, too, man.
08:37You know, Greg, we finally got you out.
08:39You know, Greg, man, it was big.
08:41Wiggy, as always, Coco came, and y'all just stopped through,
08:45so I really appreciate the support and the friendship, guys, man.
08:48It means a lot.
08:49It is time for the most entertaining play of the game,
08:52brought to you by Apex Entertainment.
08:54Visit 100,000 square feet of pure fun at Apex and Marlboro.
08:58What do we got?
08:59What's on the list?
09:00What do you guys think?
09:02The Drake May touchdown to Hunter.
09:04It was great.
09:05I was going to get it.
09:05Oh, the punt return.
09:06Yeah, I was going to go punt return.
09:07Yeah, punt return.
09:08Almost.
09:08Oh, the punt return.
09:09That's all that I did.
09:10He almost had another.
09:11I thought the second one did he almost get.
09:13That was just as entertaining,
09:14even though he didn't make it to the end zone, man.
09:16We got us a punt returner right there.
09:19And if he stays around and stays healthy long enough,
09:23it's going to be some records falling when it comes to that, you know,
09:26special teams here in New England, man.
09:28I mean, that boy can play, man.
09:31Hey, Jones, he can get down.
09:33He can run.
09:33Yeah.
09:35And I think we got your Drake take,
09:37which is presented by your New England Chevy dealers.
09:40Together, let's drive.
09:42But from your perspective, even four games in on this season,
09:48Drake May is the guy.
09:51He is the guy.
09:52He's proven himself.
09:54This is the second year when people, you know,
09:56when quarterbacks tend to either they make progress
10:01or they regress in the second year.
10:03You know that, Wiggy, because now when you're a rookie,
10:05you really don't have that much to lose.
10:08We're trying to see and trying to figure out.
10:09This is a different level.
10:11But for Drake May to make a step forward,
10:15which we've seen some quarterbacks in the past,
10:17they took a step back in their second year.
10:19I think this is a good sign for New England.
10:21Now you've got to get some pieces around him
10:23so he can continue that success.
10:25But I think now we finally have our successor to Tom Brady.
10:31I think we really do.
10:32I'd agree with that.
10:33You do?
10:33Yeah, I think so.
10:34I think Drake May has played extremely well
10:38through these first four games.
10:39You know, I know there was the game where he had the bad interception,
10:42but he'll learn from that.
10:44It's just his pocket presence, his pocket presence,
10:47his ability down, you know, when you get inside the red zone
10:50and bootlegs and no one went around.
10:51I think, you know, I'm with Ty.
10:53Imagine if he had a legit number one.
10:55I mean, Ty and I disagree.
10:57I don't think Steph Diggs is the same guy no more.
11:00He's more of a possession receiver for me.
11:02But, you know, if you had a real number one,
11:05sky's the limits for Drake May.
11:07Yeah.
11:08All right, Ty, thank you.
11:09Absolutely.
11:09I didn't say, hold on, Wiggy.
11:11Let me correct you.
11:11I didn't say he was the old state.
11:13I said he showed a sign.
11:15I mean, I ain't saying he's that guy anymore.
11:18You know, let's not even put that out there.
11:19But, you know, you're talking about a solid veteran presence.
11:23A number two that can probably beat the second or third corner
11:27in a one-on-one situation of the opposing team.
11:30I think Steph Diggs still has that ability.
11:32Right.
11:33I'll give you that one.
11:34Hey, Ty Law, as always, thank you.
11:35We will talk to you again next week.
11:38All right, man.
11:39Thanks, guys.
11:39Appreciate it.
11:40Okay.
11:40Okay.
11:40Okay.
