DRAMA?! What happened with Jarren Duran and Willson Contreras?
Scheim: "I am kind of tired of this guy (Duran). I want him out of here. I want him traded" Greg: "Can you get something for him?"
What are your thoughts on the Duran drama?
Transcript
00:00So my lead this morning was, is about Jaron Duran.
00:03Like, I know we've been talking about it already, but I'm kind of over it.
00:06And I got to tell you, I was wrong about Wilson Contreras.
00:09I think earlier in the season, I had been concerned because I thought he was a little
00:14dink forward, as we say on this program.
00:16But no, in reality, Wilson Contreras, just a fiery guy and clearly is a leader in this
00:22clubhouse.
00:22And I think the way in which he handled the entire Jaron Duran situation really kind of
00:27shows you exactly who Wilson Contreras is, because when he gets fiery, it's with the
00:31other team.
00:31It's never with his own teammates.
00:33He's never liked Jaron Duran telling guys to run on a ball.
00:36By the way, Wilson Contreras would have been hosed on by 70 posted by 73 feet.
00:42Oh, it wouldn't have even been close.
00:44Like it's it's on its merit.
00:48It's ridiculous.
00:49It was insane.
00:50And so I just I'm kind of tired of this guy.
00:54I just want him out of here.
00:55I want him traded.
00:56I was worried briefly that maybe he was a good influence in this clubhouse and trading
01:00him would be a bad idea.
01:01I'm over that.
01:02I'm so over that now.
01:03Send him to the moon.
01:05I don't need him here.
01:06I don't need him anywhere close to this fun, exciting, enjoyable baseball team.
01:11Can you get something for him or does the rest of the league look at him like he's a
01:16child and he's a problem?
01:20I think you can get.
01:22No, I don't even care.
01:23Don't give me a bag of balls.
01:25Get him out of here.
01:26I don't send him to Siberia.
01:28Like, it's just I'm kind of I don't even think you need to get anything for him.
01:31Just get like a prospect that may or may not pan out to be absolutely anything and just
01:37get him off the team.
01:38I think it's just as Curtis mentioned earlier, addition by subtraction.
01:41Yeah.
01:42To me, we are past the point of no return.
01:45It's one thing to yell at fans or mock some guy's girlfriend who's sitting by the dugout,
01:50which we got confirmed by another source at that game.
01:53God knows the amount of things we don't hear from.
01:55But for me, as I say, I've never met Tyler Milliken.
01:58I've never talked to him in my life.
02:00I I've never worked with him.
02:02I don't know.
02:02But everybody I know that knows him says he's a really good dude.
02:05Yeah.
02:06And so you have a guy that's working on that section 10 and he's requested to go talk with
02:11him about just posting the video of Jaron Duran's own actions.
02:16Flipping off the fans.
02:18Right.
02:19In Minnesota.
02:20And so he comes downstairs.
02:21He didn't even edit it.
02:22It was just the Nesson broadcast.
02:24And he walks down and he says, you're a fat ass.
02:27Get out of my effing face.
02:29Like, dude, it's not Tyler Milliken's fault that you're an a-hole.
02:33So, you know, and then the fact that he posted that.
02:37Ooh, he's a scorned fanboy.
02:39Ken was saying that on Saturday with me.
02:41He's like, oh, he's just a fit.
02:42No.
02:43If you are Jaron Duran, you were held to a different account.
02:45You were a member of the Boston Red Sox.
02:46You're an all-star game MVP.
02:47You've been on the team for years.
02:48You have a very, you know, you had a bright future.
02:51Your problems are not Tyler Milliken's, just like they're not Wilson Contreras's.
02:55Like, I'm sorry.
02:56You're just not worth the headache.
02:59Yeah.
03:00I find it hard.
03:01I don't agree with what he did.
03:02And I know that I'm on an island here, but I do think that there is going to be a
03:06conversation
03:07when it comes to his mental health.
03:08And it will always be that way.
03:10You can't tell the entire world that you considered killing yourself.
03:13And then people the next season be like, oh, he's just an a-hole.
03:16Like, if you're the Red Sox, you have to make sure that he's on whatever medication he needs
03:20to be on.
03:21And that's an empath, I guess, in me that considers the whole story instead of just
03:28these bursts of these outbursts that he's shown.
03:32He's coming across terrible.
03:33I would like him to get shipped out of here.
03:35I just think that if you can say, like Shime just did, that maybe he was going to be a
03:40good influence in this clubhouse, and that you consider that maybe he was a leader for
03:44these guys at one point, and then the next day have him be having these outbursts, there's
03:48something wrong chemically for him.
03:50So how long in your mind does he get to use that excuse?
03:53Forever.
03:54To explain.
03:55So he can, anything that he does, he can use that excuse to explain his actions?
04:00No, I don't think that it's an excuse to, but there's a deeper rooted issue here.
04:04Like, if you tried to kill yourself, like, that's deep.
04:08And I could never bring myself to that dark of a place.
04:11So a part of me, while I think that, and I just, I started the show off by saying, I
04:15hate saying that there could be a cancer in a locker room, but he does feel like he's
04:19trending in that direction for these guys.
04:21But there is a part of me that also worries about what is going on with him to have these
04:25outbursts.
04:26And I think that to just discount everything the last year and a half that we've talked
04:31about Jaron Duran is, isn't fair because obviously he is a guy who has demons.
04:37I just, and it just, it is what it is.
04:39Like you can be an a-hole and also have these demons.
04:42You just need to check in on somebody.
04:43If you're the Red Sox organization, because you, you've made a point to support him in
04:48the past.
04:48Yeah, I, to me, like people on Twitch that say, with all fairness, he's not drunk at
04:53work all day.
04:53That's true.
04:54And if my colleagues knew I was-
04:55Oh, was that directed at you?
04:56Yeah.
04:56If I were, if they knew I was drunk at work all day, I would have been fired.
04:59Like, it's, it's just, to me, you've been given this guy, how many times has the Red
05:05Sox organization bent over backwards?
05:07You know, I criticized Sam Kennedy in the front office if I felt they were doing, they have
05:12done everything they can for this guy.
05:14How long are they supposed to keep doing it?
05:16How long is he allowed to yell at your team's fans, the paying customers?
05:23If you're the Red Sox, how long are you allowing him to do that?
05:26And every time something happens, people go, Oh, well, he's dealing with things like I let
05:33him go deal with the things on his own and not affect your baseball team.
05:37It's a business.
05:38But I think that, that's exactly it.
05:40Like it shouldn't be allowed, but I think they need to have a conversation with him and
05:43say, you need to go get help instead of just saying, yeah, well, I think they need to have
05:47a conversation with them and say, congratulations, you're going to Milwaukee and you're playing
05:52for the Brewers.
05:54Congratulations.
05:54You've been DFA'd, but yeah.
05:57All right.
05:58Shyam, I assume we are talking about the incident last night.
06:03Or hearing those who are involved, talk about the incident last night during the Red Sox
06:08game with Sharon Duran in a win and a series win for the Red Sox.
06:12We starting who we starting with.
06:14Let's start with Chad Tracy.
06:15His comment was very quick.
06:16He tried to kind of just push the, uh, push the incident away with Sharon Duran, explaining
06:22it off.
06:22Here was a Chad Tracy being asked about it in his answer.
06:26Jaron looked upset on the fly ball.
06:29Just, just cursing himself for not getting the run in.
06:31Just mad at himself.
06:32So that was all it was.
06:34Just upset.
06:35Well, that's not what it was.
06:37Clearly.
06:38Uh, he, who is going to be the happiest man in Boston when Duran gets traded?
06:43Is it Tracy?
06:44Is it Contreras?
06:45Is it a great question?
06:48I, I, God carrying this D bags water constantly.
06:52I mean, I, I, it's, it's, it's clear as the, uh, you know, the lines on my face, uh, he
07:01was
07:01screaming run.
07:03He wanted Contreras to be sent.
07:05He should not have been sent.
07:08Uh, it was the absolute right decision by the third, third base coach and by Wilson Contreras
07:15and Jaron Duran was pissed off about it.
07:18Uh, he would have been out at home.
07:20I like to say nothing to the fact that they made the right decision.
07:23Yeah.
07:24Like, it's not like he hit a ball to the warning track here.
07:27He hit it barely into the outfield.
07:29The opposite of a winning player.
07:31Just the opposite.
07:32All right.
07:32You want to hear from the player himself?
07:33So yeah, let's hear from Jaron Duran explaining this, uh, the best he can after the play ball
07:39to left field, um, with Contreras on third and went out, it looked like you were gesturing
07:45back towards third.
07:46What was, what was going on?
07:48Uh, that's nothing.
07:50It's, it's something that within the team that we have that we work on and it's nothing
07:55like you guys don't need to know.
07:57Nobody needs to know.
07:58That's something between us and the team that we know it's about.
08:01So that doesn't really matter.
08:03Were you frustrated with yourself?
08:06Yeah.
08:07Fuck.
08:08Of course I'm pissed at myself.
08:09I can't even do a fuck out for this team.
08:13What's the expression about lying to my, lying to my face?
08:16Like I, what?
08:18This guy's the worst.
08:19That's something we work on.
08:21You guys don't need to know.
08:23Why are you talking about it?
08:24You don't need to know about it.
08:26That's a team thing.
08:28What an awful answer.
08:30And he had it like 90 minutes to two hours to think about that.
08:34You know, it's the first question you're going to get, or you can get ahead of it and just
08:37say, Hey guys, I was an a-hole.
08:39I talked to Wilson Contreras.
08:40There's no defending it.
08:41I've been pissed at myself.
08:42I took it out on him.
08:43I was wrong.
08:43Boom.
08:44Move on.
08:44Yep.
08:45Nobody believes it, but at least it's the right thing to do.
08:46Your player, your teammates don't have to get asked about it.
08:48You can say, don't ask them.
08:49I handled it.
08:50I was an a-hole.
08:51I'm wrong.
08:52What you're doing by saying it's a team thing and you don't need to know about it is you're
08:55putting it on all your other teammates and have to answer for it.
08:57God.
08:59God in heaven.
09:00This is the worst.
09:02It might be worse than the actual act.
09:05I will be absolutely shocked if he is still on this baseball team on Tuesday.
09:10And I will be very disappointed in Breslow and Sam Kennedy and whoever else has a say
09:19in the matter.
09:20Like enough is enough.
09:22Like the yelling at fans is ridiculous that those are the people who pay your salary.
09:31Those are the people who were still there supporting you in April and in May when you
09:38stunk.
09:39And then you're, you're yelling at your teammates when they're doing the absolute right thing.
09:47And it's Wilson Contreras.
09:50Like it's like, how much more does the organization put up with?
09:56And it's so hard to put up with it when he's a nothing on the baseball field.
10:00Like he's a negative.
10:01It was 0 for 4 last night.
10:03It's one thing if you're hitting in your Manny Ramirez.
10:05It's another thing when you're hitting a buck 90 and you are, have no impact on the game
10:09whatsoever.
10:10Like, what are you doing?
10:11What do you contribute?
10:12You can at least swallow it a little bit.
10:14Like if he's hitting 325 dingers, but he's giving you nothing at the plate.
10:18This is Kevin from Quincy.
10:21Kevin, happy Friday.
10:23Same to you guys.
10:25There was some poetic justice the very next inning when one of the athletics hit a medium
10:30fly ball to left field.
10:32The noodle arm couldn't throw the runner out of the plate.
10:34He throws like Johnny Damon.
10:36I mean, this guy's got to go.
10:42I mean, do you think he gets an incentive for being the biggest a-hole?
10:46Because maybe that would explain it.
10:47I don't even, you know, there is some good news about Roman Anthony.
10:51So you're getting him back.
10:53I don't know.
10:54I Curtis says by playoffs, maybe it's, maybe it's sooner than that.
10:59Maybe it's September 1st.
11:00I would, I would hope.
11:01Yeah.
11:02So you got, I have no idea what the buildups like, you know, so he's playing T-ball right
11:06now.
11:07Yeah.
11:07He's hitting the ball off the tee.
11:09And so I would imagine there's another week of that.
11:13We've got a month till September.
11:14Then you got to get him at bats in the rehab assignment.
11:19And what, I don't know what you, I have no idea what you got to get him 40, 50 at
11:22bats.
11:23And what's that end up being three weeks probably, or I, you know, so.
11:28Maybe ramp them back up in September.
11:30I, to me, that's, I would love him here tomorrow if he could be here, obviously.
11:34But if he can be who he should be by the time you're heading towards the playoffs, then that's
11:42a great opportunity for him to rewrite the script of the season.
11:44And you get an influx of that type of energy as opposed to, you know, the Dink-Duran.
