01:16Hello, so let's just go ahead and I want to show you this blog

01:20So this here, he really goes into depth about this right here

01:27It's about all of the, you know, the children's remakes and stuff like that

01:32I mean, listen to me when I tell you, okay

01:35I'm going to tell you right now

01:37That the children's remakes are amazing

01:39They are, I'm not going to take it from them

01:42They're going to, they're okay, they're great, okay

01:46And I really do enjoy the movies, I really do

01:48But when I pick up the book and I read it

01:50It's like it's nothing like the book

01:52It's like really, really, super really

01:55That you're going to do this to me

01:57With taking out the most important parts of the story

02:02Listen, I would rather, I don't know, maybe not

02:07They do too many episodes too

02:10It's like a too many, you know, like part one and part two and part five and part 54

02:15And you know, you got this, this, it's just, it's too much

02:19It really is too much

02:21I think people should encourage reading the book before the actual movie comes out

02:26But that is just me

02:28Because you get the full picture with the book

02:30But Hollywood has taken it out

02:33And it has really, truly hidden it from us

02:39Okay, so he's talking about this

02:41He's talking about the systemic rejection of an entire category of filmmaking

02:46Which is, 91% of remakes receive lower audience scores than their originals

02:53Okay, and the irony is, is that some of these remakes are actually better than the originals

02:59Which is okay, but it still doesn't give me the whole picture

03:06If for any remake could break through the wall of generational skepticism

03:10It should have been dread 2012, right?

03:13It had everything going forward

03:15Karl Urban's pitch perfect performance that never removed his helmet

03:19Alex Garland's faithful script

03:22And the action sequence that made Stallone's 1995 version look like a Saturday morning cartoon

03:30Credits loved it and fans who saw it, they loved it

03:34But it bombed!

03:35Earning just $41 million worldwide against the $45 million budget

03:40They lost $4 million dollars

03:46It wasn't even a game

03:48It wasn't even a game

03:50And you know, when the movies go on video

03:53The actual main characters don't get any money anymore

03:56I'm gonna let you know that the other actors get that money

04:01So they lost

04:07It cost them $41 million dollars to make a movie

04:14I wanted to get into this

04:19You have the expectation trap where Karl Urban was cast as Judge Dredd

04:25He wasn't just competing against Sylvester Stallone's performance

04:28He was competing against decades of fans' expectations, nostalgic memories

04:33And the impossible standard of childhood wonder

04:37They didn't want a better version

04:40But they did want to see what he would do

04:45And it was better

04:47I'm sorry, it was better

04:48But psychologically

04:49The psychological phenomenon is well documented

04:55We encounter remakes of beloved properties

04:59Our brains immediately activate researchers called nostalgist bias

05:04So we are going back into nostalgia

05:07We're going back into, you know, what we remember to be like

05:11Oh, my childhood movie

05:13Oh my gosh, I really love this movie

05:15And they're remaking it

05:16Let's see what it is

05:17So it takes you back to that nostalgia

05:20It takes you back to that moment in time

05:22That when this movie was so cool

05:24And so prevalent in your life

05:26You remember where you were when you first saw this movie

05:29But then they make it over again

05:33And why do they do that?
