00:00I want to welcome you to the show today thank you guys so much for joining us my name is Yaya
00:19Diamond and I am your host today and I have an amazing guest on the show I'm so very excited
00:25to have her here it's Miss Lindy Kerr I'm so very excited to have you thank you so much so you know
00:31I always ask the author to tell us your journey of how you got to the book I mean what happened
00:38to make you get to this book all right well I was uh I grew up in northwest New Mexico on a little
00:46farm and I was outside a lot and I learned to um just uh just notice the creation out there and the
00:58beauty of it and how things worked and so I always um had that in the back of my mind and then uh
01:07I moved down to southern New Mexico where there's a drought about 80 percent of the time or 90 percent
01:16of the time there is a lot of dryness down here and so I started noticing how plants did not they
01:25waited until the right amount of rain before they came up you know one year it rained a lot and there
01:34were plants that we hadn't seen in 10 or 15 years because they weren't ready to come up yet and
01:42and uh so uh I started just pondering these kind of things and how God just created things to um to
01:53survive in the desert animals and plants and so um this idea of seeds uh just started forming in my head
02:07and then I was just compelled to write the book wow so that's what I did that is so cool and I
02:15excuse me but I was like what other question could I have because I know that there's a lot of different
02:21factors going on like you lived in the desert you live in the desert and it's like it's different than
02:26where I live like I live in Florida there's no desert here okay there's plenty of rain
02:32and plenty of green grass and red ants yeah oh red ants lots of red ants ants but what did you ask
02:41I said so I was coming up with like different questions and I was trying to figure out what I
02:46could ask you because living in the desert is totally different than where I live and most people don't
02:50live in the desert so you know what what I mean what inspired you to become the author that wrote this
02:57book too because I know that you said you know you love it everything but what was the moment that
03:02you said I have thought to I have I got oh wow um well I think that I wanted to share it um I just
03:13wanted to share the creation I see you know I saw that a lot of people live in cities and are not able to
03:22look at the things and then when I uh think about the rut you know a lot of the world it does rain
03:30and in fact even in my in where I grew up I don't think I would have come up with this idea
03:38at all until I moved down to where it is absolutely so dry that everything should die
03:48but uh but uh but it doesn't and um and then it just deepened my faith in God and how he created
03:58things to to be in the desert and I just wanted to share that and I wanted to share it with children
04:05um it's a children's book and um but it's also a book I have several adults who have mentioned you
04:14no I learned a lot from reading that book in fact it's just uh you know a small children's book
04:21but um the awesomeness of how things survive I just wanted to share that and um I would um I don't know
04:31how many years ago it was that I I did um start putting together in my mind this book and then I
04:41started I illustrated the book also so I started thinking about I started thinking about fun little
04:49ways to um to illustrate it but I am also a teacher of science and um I uh I'm was I taught science in
05:02junior high and um and I love science because it's just all about how God's nature works
05:10and um so I've always loved it I guess that's just been my thing but um but coming up with this
05:18book I just wanted to share and I love to so the book is interactive um just like uh right there it
05:26says how are seeds specially programmed and um the and there are questions in the book to to help
05:34children or whoever's reading to um develop their critical thinking skills and start wondering about
05:42those and that's what I tell everybody never lose your sense of wonder uh about how things are working
05:49out in the natural world yeah definitely you know seeds I mean without without bees without seeds
05:57we wouldn't have food that's right like broccoli and cauliflower all these things they develop from
06:06seeds you know I just I'm looking at it I'm going okay so what kind of seeds did you plant in the
06:11desert well you know where you live you just when you go out and plant a garden you just put the
06:19seeds in the ground and then it rains on it right pretty much okay well here we have to work
06:26really hard to get something to grow and I do grow a garden in fact see I live on a ranch I have a
06:33180 cattle and I have a ranch that and so I have a garden and but I have to we get our water from
06:42wells that we drill and um and if it rains it's just so wonderful it makes everything so happy it makes
06:50all the desert plants happy and you can see their happiness out there but a garden uh you have to
06:56just water it with a hose and you plant it and then just water it and you have to water it you know
07:03about twice a week at least and um and for it to grow so it seems like everything uh we have to work
07:12uh just harder to make it happen mm-hmm mm-hmm I see the book I think that that is just an amazing thing I want to
07:21go back really quick on your page because we are sharing your website
07:27how are seeds specially programmed how do seeds spread how do they spread all over the earth
07:54what protects seeds in a drought
08:02god's amazing creation the story of seeds is a book that explores these questions and acknowledges the
08:13god who orchestrated it all god's amazing creation the story of seeds by lindy kerr available on amazon
08:23that is so cute you know my grandson did that oh that is so cute I love his voice it's so cute oh my gosh
08:35yeah yeah we had a lot of fun we we did a lot of takes but we finally got it so what kind of challenges
08:43did you have to overcome to actually write this book well the time factor was one thing because um I was
08:52very busy uh I am very busy doing the ranch things and then I was a teacher for a while and different
09:00things so I think that uh squeezing in the time to do it and then uh I did just start jotting things down
09:08and um the words came pretty easily but the drawings took the longest time and one of the challenges
09:21I had was uh what kind what kind of uh do I use watercolors or do I use pencils or and then I'm really thankful
09:33to authors tranquility press uh because they um brightened it and put it together and and uh made
09:42a nice book a lot brighter they did a good job mm-hmm great job really they always do a great job you
09:50know and and and the whole thing is is that you got to see something that was in your mind manifest what
09:57was that like for you thrilling it was like well I am I have uh dabbled in art and every time I do it
10:12I think look what you did Lord you did that through my hand and I just um I don't know uh to me to see
10:22the book actually made it's like wow how did I get here um it uh it I don't know I all I can say is that
10:35I just had the idea and I put it together and I just kept sitting down at the table and writing and drawing
10:42and throwing that away and writing and drawing more and uh finally we got to the book and then I do have
10:52other ideas for books in fact that's why I made the book uh the book's title is God's amazing creation the
11:00spray of seeds and the reason is because the next book will be God's amazing creation the story of birds
11:09and nests um and so I have a lot more ideas turning around in my head and um I'm jotting down notes and
11:18that's where I am uh on that one but I have at least you know I have ideas for at least four more books
11:26and that is so cool I was gonna ask you that like so you can't just stop at seeds you know yeah you
11:32know just can't stop with seeds I mean seeds don't stop at seeds you know right seeds are just little
11:38bitty things you know and you think okay a book about seeds what kind of book is that but then when you
11:45you know start thinking about it it's like like one of the pages is like a little bean seed and it just
11:51looks dead you know like a just inanimate seed and you think okay how does that become alive and still
12:00I'm amazed by it I am still just in awe every time I think about it and that's why I wanted to share it
12:09I just I had this driving urge to share these kind of things because I don't know how many people
12:18ponder that yeah yeah and and I just wanted them to just see look look the seeds sprouted I mean
12:27that's a miracle it is a miracle it definitely is a miracle wow wow what goals as an author do you have
12:35now that you know you have a few more books in your head but what is your goal like do you have a
12:40progressive goal um well I want to my goal for this year is to publish the next book that's my goal
12:52and then after that like I am gonna be 71 in a few days and uh happy birthday yeah thank you
13:00I um I'm going to uh after that I'm you know I I'm thinking man I need to really get busy on this
13:12before I just get too old and decrepit to do it although I can still ride my horse I rode him
13:18yesterday we branded and and took care of some cattle business yesterday but um but still I you know I
13:27feel the clock ticking and so yes so for this year I would you know I have a goal to publish
13:36uh my next book wow and then after that it will be just I I hope to do at least a book a year
13:46I got you any advice for those people who are scared to do a book like scared to publish it and illustrate
13:53and all that stuff any advice oh go for it that's my advice just go for it because just like me you
14:02know I am not I don't consider myself an accomplished artist I'm not an accomplished artist actually I've
14:11had people artists that have encouraged me but I you know I haven't gone to school or taken it I mean
14:19you know I've just not really done a whole lot but I just had this in my head and I wanted to do it
14:27and that's what I would tell other people who are afraid just go for it and even if you know wherever
14:35it takes you um just go for it um just go for it because at first I had no idea that my book would
14:43ever get published and then it did yeah it was just like hmm wow I found a little a little publisher
14:52and published it and then this is a republish and um and I'm really really happy about it and um and I feel
15:02um hopefully that um uh you know people will be interested in it but I really do hope that um
15:12other people will be inspired to do it because if I can do it absolutely anybody can do it
15:20right wow well I mean we have your we have your book right here you can get it on Amazon or Kindle
15:27and it's God's amazing creation the story of seeds uh and you got other books coming out soon look at
