21 September - National weather forecast presented by Kathryn Chalk.
Transcript
00:00good afternoon well what was a very wet saturday out there for some of us it's going to be turning
00:06much brighter and more settled as we go through the new week with higher pressure building but
00:10also feeling colder out there with a frost to start the mornings now let's have a look at the
00:16bigger picture because low pressure has cleared its way eastward driving down northerly winds
00:20so tapping into some arctic air but higher pressure becoming more dominant as we go through
00:26the week so keeping things largely fine dry and settled as the air of high pressure does just
00:32shift its way eastwards the temperatures will just generally recover as we go through the week
00:38but back to the rest of this afternoon we've got cloud lingering across the south of england through
00:43this afternoon a few showery outbreaks of rain across the far southwest but it's a much drier and brighter
00:50picture across wales and northern england compared to saturday the focus for the showers will be
00:55across northern ireland parts of northern england but more so across scotland especially orkney and
01:01shetland and some of the showers could be heavy especially across north eastern coast and perhaps
01:05even a little bit wintry over the highest mountains of scotland but otherwise for all of us it's feeling
01:12cooler out there temperatures below average for the time of year we may see up to 16 or 17 degrees
01:18across the south and east but if i turn on the winds and the feels like temperature well
01:24actually when exposed to that brisk northeasterly breeze temperatures are going to feel more like
01:30six or seven degrees and even down that northeastern coast only around 10 or 11. so as we go through
01:37the rest of this afternoon and evening time the cloud across the south will sink its way southwards
01:43most of the showers will start fading away as we go through the evening mainly lingering across
01:48coastal districts but always the focus for some showers across orkney and shetland
01:54otherwise with higher pressure building in the winds will be turning lighter especially out
01:58towards the west and with lengthy clear skies temperatures are going to be falling away so
02:03actually we're likely to see the first widespread frost of the season perhaps just holding up a
02:09little bit higher across the far southeast where we hold on to a bit more of a breeze
02:13so a chilly but bright start to monday morning there'll be a focus for some showers again across
02:20eastern areas and especially along that dover strait otherwise cloud pushing into parts of scotland
02:27always the focus for some showers across orkney and shetland but for the vast majority it's fine
02:32it's dry it's more settled with plenty in the way of sunny spells otherwise though temperatures
02:39are still going to be below average for the time of year but we'll have lighter winds compared to
02:44what we'll see on sunday so actually in the sunshine still hopefully feeling pleasant enough
02:48up to 16 or 17 degrees so as we go through monday evening then we hold on to a fair bit of cloud
02:55across northern parts of england into scotland always the focus for some showers across shetland
03:01but otherwise for most generally it's clear skies as we go through monday night into tuesday
03:06morning but a subtle shift in the wind direction perhaps not feeling as cold as what we'll see
03:12with the night just on its way but for more details on all of that make sure to hit subscribe
03:17so you don't miss any updates and i'll see you very soon bye
