18 October - National weather forecast presented by Kathryn Chalk.
Transcript
00:00Good afternoon.
00:01Well, we say goodbye to the anti-cyclonic gloom as low pressure moves in, bringing out
00:06breaks of rain and stronger winds.
00:09So this is the area of high pressure that's given us a lot of low cloud, but low pressure
00:13will be moving through from the west, bringing out breaks of rain and stronger winds.
00:18And we hold on to this area of low pressure as we go through Monday as well, tipping blustery
00:23showers to start the new week.
00:26But back to the rest of the afternoon.
00:28Well, the cloud isn't as low as what we've had of recent days.
00:32There should be some brighter spells coming through, more so, though, across northern
00:36Scotland.
00:37A few showers across the North Sea may clip into Shetland, but otherwise a largely dry afternoon
00:43for most.
00:44But out towards the west, that's where we start to see the area of low pressure moving through.
00:49So outbreaks of rain across Northern Ireland to end Saturday and coming in to the far
00:55southwest into Devon and Cornwall, also with a bit more of a breeze picking up.
01:00But otherwise elsewhere, largely dry, lots of cloud as we end the day, temperatures holding
01:06up around average to 12 to 17 degrees.
01:10So as we go through Saturday afternoon and more so into the evening, outbreaks of rain will
01:16continue to push their way north and eastwards into Northern England, into Scotland.
01:22But the heaviest and most persistent rain really coming into Northern Ireland and even towards
01:27the southwest of Cornwall.
01:29But there is a rain warning in force for the southeast of Northern Ireland, especially
01:33over the Mourne Mountains.
01:35That's where rainfall totals could build and we could see some localised flooding.
01:40Otherwise largely dry but often cloudy to start Monday morning across the southeast of England.
01:46But with more of that breeze picking up, a lot of cloud, outbreaks of rain, temperatures
01:50are going to be holding up overnight.
01:52So a mild start to Sunday morning, temperatures around 9 to 12 degrees.
01:58So as we start Sunday morning then, a lot of cloud towards the far southeast, but elsewhere
02:04outbreaks of heavy rain, even coming into the southwest of Wales, into southern England.
02:11And then by the end of the afternoon, most of us, it is going to be unsettled outbreaks
02:15of rain for many.
02:17But there is going to be some brighter interludes coming through to end the day across Northern
02:21Ireland, southern parts of Wales and the southwest of Devon and Cornwall.
02:27Otherwise, temperatures, well, similar to recent days really, 13 to 16 degrees, but feeling unpleasant
02:34underneath all this cloud, rain and stronger winds.
02:38So as we go through Sunday evening and overnight, this band of rain will continue to push its way
02:44north and eastward, still heavy at times, especially across parts of the south of Scotland.
02:50Otherwise behind that, clearer spells coming in, still holding on to some strong winds, possibly
02:54even some coastal gales, followed by showers.
02:59So as we go through Monday then, having a look at the outlook, blustery showers continuing,
03:04heavy possibly with the odd rumble of thunder, something a little bit dry on Tuesday, but perhaps
03:08with further spells of rain as we go midweek before turning a little bit cooler as we go
03:13into next weekend.
03:15But for more details on all of that, make sure to hit subscribe on YouTube so you don't miss

03:20And I'll catch you very soon.
03:21Bye bye.
