18 May - National weather forecast presented by Kathryn Chalk
Transcript
00:00Good afternoon.
00:01Well, it has been another slow start in places with low cloud that's coming from the North
00:06Sea and slowly breaking up.
00:09So this is the latest satellite at time of recording and you can see all this low cloud
00:13drifting from into the North Sea and further inland.
00:17So Huggin Coast, northeastern England into East Anglia and the far south and east out
00:22towards the west.
00:23That's where we've got plenty of sunshine through this morning.
00:27Now as we go into the afternoon, that low cloud will eventually lift and break.
00:31It could be a bit stubborn to clear in places for the likes of the east of the Midlands and
00:36towards the far southeast before retreating back to the coasts across eastern parts.
00:42Elsewhere, further out towards the west, plenty of lengthy sunny spells, but you'll just notice
00:47a few showers bubbling up across the southern parts of Scotland.
00:52Otherwise, it's still going to be feeling warming that sunshine out towards the west, highs
00:57of 23, possibly 24 degrees.
01:00But again, where we've got this north and northeasterly wind coming down from the cool
01:06North Sea, it's always going to be feeling chilliest across the eastern coasts.
01:12So as we go through Sunday evening, those showers that I mentioned across the southern parts
01:17of Scotland will drift their way further southwards, affecting parts of Wales as we go overnight.
01:23As we go towards the west, that's where we hold on to the lengthiest clear skies, may even
01:27have some mist and fog patches towards Devon and Cornwall on Monday morning.
01:32But otherwise, as the land cools, we'll see further spells of low cloud moving in.
01:37It's going to be thick enough in places for some patchy drizzle too.
01:41Otherwise, temperatures generally holding up underneath the blanket of cloud might turn
01:45a little bit chilly in rural spots further out towards the west.
01:50So that leaves a pretty messy picture to start Monday morning.
01:53There'll be some showers first thing across parts of Wales and northern areas too.
01:58But otherwise, across northern Ireland, southern parts of Scotland, northern England, we'll
02:03have more in the way of cloud and some showers developing as we go into the afternoon.
02:08Again, still some low cloud hugging some coastal areas in the east.
02:12Best of the sunshine now coming in towards the far southeast of England.
02:18And here, that's where we'll see the highest temperatures on Monday, 21, possibly 22 degrees.
02:23But out towards the west, temperatures just a touch down on recent days, given that we have
02:29more in the way of cloud and those showers breaking out.
02:32So as we go through Monday evening, again, we'll see the swirl of showers.
02:38Some of these still could be on the heavy side, perhaps even with the odd rumble of thunder.
02:41But they'll generally ease as they move into Northern Ireland.
02:44Then we see the return of some low cloud across the North Sea coast, but elsewhere generally
02:50staying dry.
02:52Now, as we go into Tuesday and Wednesday, there is the chance of further showers that could
02:56be heavy and thundery.
02:58Thursday generally drier, but a little bit cooler.
03:01Make sure to hit subscribe so you don't miss any updates on any of that, and I'll see you
03:05very soon.
03:06Bye bye.
