00:00Are you ready to talk about Sherry?
00:05I was just going to ask you the same thing.
00:07Yes?
00:08Yes.
00:09Should we do like a little circle playtime on the rug just to get in the moment?
00:12The couch is good for me.
00:13Yeah, OK.
00:21Lots to unpack.
00:23Yeah.
00:24I completely understand why she has mom guilt.
00:26There's no separation of the daycare and her family's home.
00:31Right.
00:32Our new client Sherry has her hands pulled.
00:34She's trying to make her home a multi-purpose space.
00:36But the amount of work Sherry is tackling between running her business and running her family,
00:40it's become almost impossible to make this space work in a way that makes everyone happy, including her.
00:45The kids are feeling it.
00:46But it makes sense.
00:47They come home from school.
00:48They don't have a place to go.
00:50They don't have a place to do their homework.
00:52It's not fair to them.
00:53They deserve to feel like they have a family room where they can sit together.
00:56Yeah.
00:57They all deserve it.
00:58Yeah.
00:59You want to see the video?
01:00Yes.
01:01All right.
01:02Is there a way we can move the beds out of the way from the computer so it won't be so cluttered?
01:09So we can get to it?
01:10Yeah, look for private.
01:11We'll wipe it over like this.
01:12And then we see if we can get to the computer better that way.
01:18This is the bed over here.
01:20Let's move these books off the way.
01:23Well, you know what?
01:24If we all get up and help, it would happen a lot faster.
01:27Okay.
01:28Okay.
01:29Okay.
01:30So go, you put the books away.
01:32There's too many chairs in that pool here.
01:34I feel like it's too cluttered.
01:36Where are you going to put them?
01:37And there's no room for us to walk through those.
01:40Good job putting them over here.
01:42How about that?
01:43Is it rolling over there now?
01:45Yeah, but then it's still, like, cluttered everywhere.
01:48What struck me about watching them interact with that space is they have so much stuff in there that they need, like all the daycare stuff, but tons of stuff that they need that they don't have, like seating.
02:02We keep a lot of the stuff there, but we just need to organize it better.
02:07The other thing is the kids weren't helping clean at all.
02:09Like, it was all up to Sherry.
02:11Kids aren't really motivated to clean, really, not naturally.
02:16I liked to organize when I was a kid.
02:18You did.
02:19I loved it.
02:20I'm shocked.
02:21Most kids in the world are little like Sabrina's running around, like counting down the minutes until they get to clean.
02:25Especially with older kids who have their own activity, their own friendships.
02:28Which is why it's important to find ways to make cleaning more entertaining so it doesn't feel like a chore.
02:33I think that's what we aim for with Sherry's kids.
02:35All right.
02:36You ready?
02:37Yeah, I'm ready.
02:38Vamanos.
02:39That means let's go.
02:41Thanks for the translation.
02:46Hello?
02:47Hi.
02:48Come on back.
02:49We're back here.
02:50Hi, Sherry.
02:51Hi.
02:52Come on in.
02:53Hello.
02:54Hi.
02:55How are you?
02:56I'm so happy you're here.
02:57We didn't realize the kids are going to be here.
02:58Yeah.
02:59Two of the five are here.
03:00Two of the five are here.
03:01Hi, guys.
03:02Nice to meet you.
03:03Hi, Sabrina.
03:04Nice to meet you.
03:05Hi, Sabrina.
03:06I'm Jen.
03:07Nice to meet you.
03:08And this is Jason.
03:09Hi, Jason.
03:10Hi, Jason.
03:11Hi, Jason.
03:12Serena, nice to meet you.
03:13Hi, Jason.
03:14Hi, Jason.
03:15Hi, Jason.
03:16Serena, nice to meet you.
03:17Hi, Jason.
03:18Hi, Jason.
03:19Serena, nice to meet you.
03:20I'm Jen, nice to meet you.
03:21The other ones are at track practice, basketball practice.
03:24So you're football, is that right, Jason?
03:26What sports do you play?
03:27I play football, baseball, basketball.
03:31What about you, Jada?
03:33I do track and field and do 100 and 200.
03:37How many seconds does it take to do 100?
03:39Usually like 12 seconds.
03:40How much can you do it in?
03:42We should do that later.
03:43Like a minute?
03:44A minute.
03:45Forget it.
03:46Okay.
03:47What is it like for you guys when you come home?
03:48Like, what's your normal schedule?
03:50I just come and say hi to everyone and then go to my room and do my homework.
03:54What about you?
03:56I just go on my iPad.
03:58Okay.
03:59Do you guys have friends over a lot?
04:00No.
04:01Why?
04:02Because it's embarrassing.
04:03Really?
04:04With all the toys.
04:05And like, it gets messy really easily.
04:07It's crowded.
04:08Yeah.
04:09Do you feel like this space stresses out your mom?
04:12Yeah.
04:13What would you like to see happen?
04:15I would like to see Lesta.
04:17Lesta.
04:18So you guys can all have space?
04:20Yeah.
04:21Have space?
04:22And a new TV because the TV doesn't work anymore.
04:25I want these kids to have everything that they're asking for.
04:27But by just getting new stuff, it's not going to fix the problem.
04:30Because in a dual space like this, there tends to just be a lot of clutter.
04:34But there are some studies that show that having a lot of mess, especially with teenagers, can make them feel overwhelmed.
04:39So the key is going to be giving them tools to help maintain the space even after we're gone.
04:43We're going to make over this whole space.
04:45You're going to have your own amazing living room.
04:47It's going to look fantastic.
04:48But we want you to be able to keep up with the tidying.
04:52And we want you both to be part of it along with the rest of your siblings.
04:57So we have a strategy called Pavlov's Cleaning.
05:04What we want to do is associate something positive with cleaning.
05:08For example, running track.
05:10Something I know you're all good at.
05:12You're all a fast family.
05:13So what we're going to do is we're going to have a stopwatch.
05:16We're going to see how much stuff you can tidy up and put away in 30 seconds.
05:22But in here?
05:23In here.
05:24In here.
05:25How's that sound?
05:26But we're going to have to move the couch.
05:28No, no.
05:29You don't have to move any furniture.
05:31Don't worry about that.
05:32I'd like to see that though.
05:33That's the muscles.
05:35With Pavlov's Cleaning, we really want to use the kids' competitiveness to our advantage.
05:39Because they love sports.
05:41I mean, what sounds more fun than a cleaning competition?
05:43I'd win that every time.
05:45All right, what's your track stance?
05:46I use blocks.
05:47You're on the block?
05:48Okay, yeah.
05:49So you're like this?
05:50Right?
05:51All right, you're ready?
05:52Okay.
05:53We got 30 seconds.
05:54Go.
05:55Go.
05:56Go, team.
05:57Go, team.
05:58Go, team.
05:59You can do it.
06:00You can do it.
06:01You can do it.
06:02Pavlov's Cleaning is so great because it allows children to associate cleaning with fun and happiness.
06:07And when their contributions are valued, they're more likely to develop a sense of self-worth and confidence.
06:12Go, team.
06:13Go.
06:14And most importantly, it should be something that gets everyone involved.
06:17Because it's always more fun when you have a cleaning buddy.
06:20Give me an A.
06:21The cleaning cheerleader?
06:22Give me a Gina.
06:23Give me a Jason.
06:24Sometimes when I try to motivate my daughter, we'll do like a dance party while doing dishes.
06:28Oh, I love a dance party.
06:29We dance and clean and dance and do dishes and dance and dance.
06:32Five, four, three, two, one.
06:37All right.
06:38Good job, guys.
06:39Good job, guys.
06:40He loves it so much.
06:43I've been searching for a while now for some ideas to keep the kids involved.
06:49And because they're so competitive, incorporating the game will make them excited about helping me out and hopefully inspiring them to help me keep my space clean, neat and tidy.
06:58Me too.
06:59Good job, Jason.
07:00You are turning into a cleaning machine.
07:01And I want you guys to continue to do this.
07:03And obviously you do it differently with the older kids and the little kids.
07:06And even the toddlers, you can do the cleanup song and like sing to them and they can just clean up all of their toys too.
07:12Yeah.
07:13I just want you to get them involved more to alleviate some of the stress on you.
07:17Yeah.
07:18Right?
07:19But I actually brought something fun.
07:20Hold up.
07:21Let me grab it.
07:22Now here's a great hack.
07:25To make it so easy to clean.
07:27What is it?
07:28Look at this.
07:29Okay.
07:30Grab some toys.
07:31Oops.
07:32Oops.
07:33Okay.
07:34So let's say that the daycare kids are all playing here, right?
07:38Look at how easy this cleanup is.
07:40One of the most important factors to stay consistent with cleaning is to find ways to make it quick and easy.
07:47You put all here.
07:49Messy is enclosed.
07:50You don't even see the mess anymore.
07:52You put the lid on and you're good to go.
07:55And no matter what age the kids are, it's way more likely that they're going to contribute if it's not a long, arduous process.
08:00That's why these toy sacks are so awesome because it just takes a few minutes to clean up a big mess.
08:05Isn't that great?
08:06That's awesome.
08:07So the mess is in here, but you don't see it anymore.
08:09But it's so tidy.
08:10Yeah.
08:11Cool, right?
08:12Yeah.
08:13Okay.
08:14We do need more of this.
08:15You're right, Jason.
08:16You're absolutely right.
08:17The gutting organizer right here.
08:19I think that toy sack hack is going to be great.
08:22It's going to make it easy for the little ones to help keep it clean.
08:25And it also leaves no room or excuses for the older ones because you may know exactly where everything belongs.
08:31Okay.
08:32So we're going to go.
08:33Homework for tonight is just to help your mom a little bit more clean.
08:36Yes.
08:37And then we will see you tomorrow.
08:38Okay.
08:39And that's tomorrow's when the real work begins.
08:40Yeah.
08:41It's when the space starts to get transformed.
08:42Yeah.
08:43So you could say goodbye to being embarrassed about this room because you are not only going
08:48to love the space, you're going to want everybody to come over when we're done.
08:51Okay.
08:52Are you excited about that?
08:53Yes.
08:54And it's only in a few more days.
08:55Okay.
08:56All right.
08:57We'll see you tomorrow.
08:58Bye, guys.
08:59Do you think the kids are going to actually do some cleaning for Sherry?
09:02I think just watching them, they seem so competitive.
09:04They're not going to want to lose even a cleaning competition.
09:07So fingers crossed.
09:11Hi, Sherry.
09:12Hi.
09:13Come on in.
09:14Hello.
09:15How are you guys?
09:16Good to see you.
09:17Wow, it looks so clean in here.
09:32Oh, yeah.
09:33The kids helped?
09:34Yes, they did.
09:35We played the game.
09:36You did?
09:37We did.
09:38Put everything away.
09:40Put everything away.
09:41Good job.
09:42Go, guys.
09:43Go, go, go.
09:44You're doing a great job.
09:45Jason helped out the most.
09:46He did.
09:47He really got excited about the game.
09:49I like that he was into it.
09:50It's the competition of it all.
09:52It is.
09:53We're a competitive family.
09:55I have a feeling Sherry's kids worth the time to pass up on a challenge.
09:58And if the kids feel more ownership over the space, it's going to motivate them to keep
10:01it clean.
10:02Speaking of kids, where is everyone?
10:03My kids are at school and the daycare is closed today because we're so excited that you guys
10:08are here to help me clean up.
10:10So, I know you already know Pavlov's cleaning because we did it last night with the kids.
10:15We also have another method called need, want, hate.
10:20This is a shared space.
10:22And we know your kids spoke a little bit about having some resentment towards the daycare
10:27space encroaching on the family space.
10:29Exactly.
10:30We know running a business out of your home, there's going to be things that you might not
10:33necessarily want to keep in a family room, but you need to keep for the business.
10:37So, the way that it works is we look at what you absolutely need.
10:40So, for the business, it may be a file folder.
10:43The stuff that you want is maybe things with sentimental value, anything that just really
10:49brings you joy.
10:50And then the last step is we figure out what you hate in the space.
10:53Old chairs that you don't need or, you know, a broken TV.
10:57Then we could start kind of figuring out how to customize a room just for you.
11:01So that we maximize your daycare space and your family space and that everything exists
11:06together peacefully.
11:08Need, Want, Hate is the perfect method for Sherry because she has one space that has to serve
11:13two completely separate functions.
11:15But it's really difficult for Sherry to make decisions about what's in the best interest
11:18for her business when she's constantly worrying about how it may affect her own kids.
11:22So, in order to simplify everything, we're going to focus on the need, want, hate items
11:26for the daycare.
11:27All right.
11:28So, need.
11:29What do you need for daycare?
11:30Well, I really need room for books because we love to read.
11:34I love that answer.
11:35I know.
11:36Most important.
11:37Yes.
11:38I love inspiring young readers.
11:39So, it has to be room for books.
11:40Okay.
11:41Absolutely.
11:42Yeah.
11:43By solely focusing on one area at a time, it can allow you to make really instinctive
11:47decisions about what's working.
11:48And more importantly, we're going to take away some of that emotional guilt that Sherry
11:52feels when she's trying to figure out how to please everyone.
11:54For daycare, what do you want in the space?
11:56I want room for materials like crayons and markers, and we'd like to do art during daycare,
12:03so sometimes there's not room on the couches for that or at the computer table because it's
12:08just cramped.
12:09And once we figure out what's needed for the daycare, it's going to be so much easier for
12:14us to figure out how to make space for our own kids.
12:17Okay.
12:18And then hate.
12:19I hate these blue chairs.
12:20I hate these chairs.
12:21They look like they've been around the block.
12:22They have.
12:23Yeah.
12:24And they're peeling and they're chipped and they're just eyesore.
12:26Donate.
12:27Donate for sure.
12:28Bye.
12:29Bye blue chair.
12:30Bye.
12:31You still need daycare seating as well.
12:33Yes.
12:34Okay.
12:35If you're somebody like Sherry who works from home, it's important to periodically go through
12:38need, want, and hate.
12:39I hate these sheets that I have on the couch here.
12:43Yes.
12:44Because if your home office is inundated with clutter, that's not going to set you up for
12:49success and it could affect your wallet.
12:51So now that we're all on the same page of what you need, want, and hate for this space,
12:55I want you to go take a little break.
12:57Jen and I and the team are going to clear everything out and then when we're done, then we're going
13:02to use our zoning method so you can visually see how this space is going to flow.
13:07Is it going to be end zones, like a field for the kids?
13:09Yeah.
13:10Is this touchdown?
13:11I don't know.
13:12Yes.
13:14Yes.
13:15I love football.
13:16Hike.
13:17I think that's for hiking.
13:19Bullseye.
13:20That is football.
13:22I think we should probably stick to organizing.
13:25How are you feeling?
13:26Are you anxious?
13:27I'm very anxious and a little nervous.
13:29Yeah.
13:30So you go take a break.
13:31Put your feet up.
13:32Go relax.
13:33Then we'll see you in a little bit.
13:34All right.
13:35All right.
13:36You ready?
13:37Yes.
13:38Get this thing first.
13:39Creating two different functions for this room means we have to be really methodical about
13:42what portion is for the daycare and what portion is for her family.
13:46Grab this and put it outside.
13:48Okay.
13:49I got the crib.
13:50Black and play.
13:52Spoke too soon.
13:54I got the chair.
13:55For some people, having too many things in your line of vision can reduce your brain's
14:00capacity for making decisions.
14:03So by emptying out your space, it'll give you a clearer picture of the room's potential.
14:06Oh, this is heavy.
14:07Oh my God.
14:08Also made of lead.
14:09Although seeing your space totally empty could be super jarring, so I don't know how
14:12Sherry's going to react.
14:13Sherry.
14:14Sherry.
14:15I hear an echo.
14:16Oh my goodness.
14:17Whoa.
14:18Whoa.
14:19Whoa.
14:20Whoa.
14:21Wow.
14:22When's the last time you saw this room empty?
14:23When you bought the house?
14:24Yeah.
14:25It's bigger than it was.
14:26Yeah.
14:27It's so big.
14:28It's a massive space.
14:29Yeah, it's a nice size.
14:30And I'm echoing, so it's kind of hurting me out.
14:31But yeah.
14:32Don't worry.
14:33It's going to be filled soon enough.
14:34So I wanted to talk to you about the zones that we touched on earlier.
14:36Right.
14:37So we're going to do different colors for different zones.
14:38Okay.
14:39So this is going to be your family zone.
14:40Purple.
14:41Sunroom.
14:42And then, green will be daycare.
14:44There are three different ways that people learn.
14:45Visual auditory, and I'm going to do better.
14:46The other side.
14:47But I don't know if you'll consider that this room, so this is going to be your family
14:48zone.
14:49So that's the core size.
14:50I'm not sure that you can be a better shape.
14:51It's bigger than the size.
14:52Yeah.
14:53It's so big.
14:54It's a massive space.
14:55Yeah, it's a nice size.
14:56And then echoing.
14:57And so it's kind of burning me out.
14:58Yeah.
14:59Don't worry.
15:00It's going to be filled soon enough.
15:01So I wanted to talk to you about the zones
15:02sunroom, and then green will be daycare.
15:04There are three different ways that people learn,
15:06visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.
15:08And colored zoning is so great for visual learners.
15:11First thing, you have the TV there.
15:13We're going to upgrade that situation for you.
15:16OK.
15:16And Jason was really adamant about having a huge sofa.
15:21Yeah.
15:22You said that you sit on the floor to watch, to hang out.
15:24Sometimes, yeah.
15:25You comfortable?
15:26No.
15:28We're not doing that anymore.
15:30So I know this is a little crazy, but what if?
15:35When you have a multi-purpose space like Sherry's,
15:37where each area is sort of blending into each other,
15:41the different colors can help you differentiate
15:43how each zone is going to work.
15:45Wow.
15:45I know.
15:46Do you think that'll be enough seating?
15:48I think that's going to be more than enough seating.
15:50We know there's a lot of competing energies and purposes
15:53in this room.
15:53Yeah.
15:54This adult sectional is going to be for your family.
15:57A real-sized couch, wow.
15:58And no daycare stuff.
16:00I want the kids to have a place to lounge.
16:02The best part about taping off zones is that it allows you
16:05to really maximize every nook and cranny,
16:08whether it's a challenging space or a multifunctional one,
16:11like this one.
16:12Then here is going to be a family-only situation,
16:19where each kid has their own space for their own things,
16:23meaning daycare off limits.
16:25They'll love the sound of that.
16:27And it's fun, you can get creative.
16:28You can make, like, a tape masterpiece on the floor.
16:31Or we can just plan out the design.
16:33Yeah, if you want to be boring.
16:34This purple tape represents the Sherry-only space
16:37for your business, for your zen, for whatever you need.
16:40If you want to come here and have a moment and relax,
16:43it's for you.
16:44For me, wow.
16:45Exactly.
16:46Now that we've cleared out the bedroom,
16:47it's so nice to see we actually have a good amount of space
16:49just for Sherry.
16:51Lastly, before you had your computer over here, OK,
16:55but now that everything office-related is going
16:57to the Sherry-only zen space, what
17:00if we set up tables and chairs and the daycare area over here?
17:05Now that you guys are giving me some order and see,
17:08I really think that's going to be good.
17:09Yeah, because we don't want to mess up your system.
17:11What system?
17:15In the past, I have tried to organize,
17:17and I usually just come up with these different piles of stuff
17:21in different various sections, and sometimes stuff
17:23gets intertwined.
17:24So it was really nice to clear out the space
17:27and really seeing the different spaces defined.
17:31We have family, daycare, office zen there.
17:35Does that flow feel good to you?
17:37That feels amazing.
17:38I've never had any this much separation.
17:40I know.
17:41I'm really excited that things we're
17:43going to finally have at this place.
17:45Now that there's a specific zone just for family,
17:48I can feel less guilty about the daycare taking over,
17:51our family space, and even having a little room for myself.
17:54I'm really excited about that.
17:56OK, so now that everything's laid out,
17:58it's time for me to get to work.
17:59And I have a surprise for you, Sherry.
18:01Are you ready?
18:02I love surprises.
18:03OK, so what we do is something called
18:05taking you beyond the mess.
18:07We know it's really stressful.
18:09You work really hard.
18:10You've got five kids.
18:11It's tough.
18:12You don't get a lot of time for yourself.
18:13We want to do something to give back to you.
18:16So we're going to go to the spa right now.
18:18Really?
18:19Get your nails done because you deserve it.
18:26Aw.
18:30Sorry.
18:32Don't have a lot of time.
18:35Oh, my God.
18:36You deserve this.
18:41I really don't realize what I do every day.
18:43Normal, I'm just operating on autopilot.
18:46It's easy for me to do things for other people,
18:48but to receive the help myself and to have someone else
18:52kind of talk about that, it's always hard for me to hear.
18:56I'm excited.
18:59Seeing Sherry break down really hurt my heart
19:01because it just shows us she never takes time for herself, ever.
19:05And I think people feel like taking time for yourself is being selfish,
19:09but it's just so important to do it, especially as a mom.
19:11There's so much pressure to put yourself last,
19:13and it's just not the way it should be.
19:15All right, so we'll see you soon.
19:16Go have fun.
19:19I wasn't expecting anything for myself other than just to get the roommate over.
19:23So I'm really grateful and excited about just having a little time for myself.
19:29When's the last time you went to a spa?
19:31It sounds like it's been a while.
19:33Yes, it has been.
19:34Honestly, the last gift certificate I got,
19:37I re-gifted to someone else, to be very honest with you.
19:39I didn't have time to go, so I just gave it to someone else before it expired.
19:43Have you given any thought to what you want to get done?
19:46I'm thinking manicure.
19:47You're thinking manicure?
19:48Yeah, I'm thinking manicure.
19:49OK.
19:50I can use a good silk.
19:51Me too.
19:53You're going to be really kicking back today.
19:59This is so nice.
20:04Ready to get our nails done?
20:06Yeah.
20:07OK.
20:08It's just around here.
20:09It's this really cute little spot.
20:15Hello.
20:16Hi.
20:17Hi.
20:18This is Sherry.
20:19Hi, Sherry.
20:20Hi.
20:21Hi.
20:22Great to see you again.
20:23Nice to see you.
20:24Thank you so much for setting this up for us.
20:26It looks amazing.
20:27Sherry selflessly puts everyone in her life and all of their needs ahead of her own.
20:32And still it never feels like enough.
20:33What do we want to do today?
20:35So we're thinking manicures.
20:37Perfect.
20:38It's a really special day for Sherry.
20:40Yay.
20:41We're getting her a pampered spa day.
20:44Great.
20:45And maybe we want to add on some massages then.
20:47Massages.
20:48Let's do it.
20:49OK.
20:50But doing more and more for everyone but herself is not going to be sustainable.
20:55Because when you get stressed your body releases cortisol and that can have negative effects on your mental health and your physical health as well.
21:01So how are you feeling being out of the house now with everything that's been going on?
21:05I'm really enjoying this experience.
21:08I'm kind of worried with the kids.
21:09I always worry about them whenever I'm away.
21:12The babies.
21:13Does the daycare close ever?
21:15Like is it open?
21:16Just on the weekend they're closed.
21:17OK.
21:18I'm not doing daycare business.
21:21I'm doing my kid business.
21:23You give so much of your energy to your kids at daycare and so much of your energy to your kids all day every day.
21:30And it's really tough to take time just for yourself.
21:34Yeah it can be.
21:35So it's really important for me and for Sabrina to make sure that you're rested and reset.
21:42Because in addition to making your home look really incredible, we want to get your head right too.
21:48And that's why I wanted to give you this little break and remind you how important it is to take care of yourself.
21:55Even if it's just five minutes, closing the bathroom door, taking that time.
22:00I would love for this to be a regular practice for you.
22:03Definitely.
22:04Yeah.
22:05I think it's really realistic thinking to just try to time out in like small increments.
22:10Yeah.
22:11Obviously you're not going to just be able to traipse away whenever you want.
22:15This is really just about finding like a little bit more time for yourself in whatever way that you're able to do it.
22:21So that you're then able to keep giving.
22:23Definitely.
22:24I think that learning to take time for myself was going to be really important moving forward in general just so I can be a better mom and better care provider for others.
22:32Yeah.
22:33Sometimes when you're in autopilot and you're just working, working, working, you don't have time to like really take a step back and take a break and really assess what's going on.
22:41So by kind of pulling me out of it, it's really giving me a perspective that I'm always thinking about others and so I need to sit back and take a moment sometimes just to give a little self care to myself.
22:52It's a balance.
22:53It's a balance.
22:54Mm-hmm.
22:55I really am grateful though.
22:56I'm really grateful for all this whole experience.
22:57I'm looking forward to going back into my space in a clear way.
23:01When we get back, it's going to be your place, but even better.
23:04Oh my goodness.
23:05It's going to be so good.
23:06I'm really excited though, but I really am.
23:25This looks so awesome.
23:27Because we're trying to serve both the daycare and Sherry's family at the same time, it's important that we infuse touches that appeal to everyone.
23:35So for instance, adding this wall mural will add color and visual interest for the daycare, but I think Sherry's family is going to love it too.
23:42That guy's big.
23:45By adding special touches that were specifically requested by Sherry's family, this space will feel not only upgraded, but customized just for them.
23:52Like I want this for my house, for all my craft supplies, but we still have three separate zones that need to be transformed, which means we have a lot of work to get these spaces ready.
24:03So I think Jen has had enough relaxation time.
24:19Oh, that's so nice.
24:20Oh, this was so amazing.
24:26Oh, got a text.
24:28It's from Sabrina.
24:30She says, hi, how's the spa day going?
24:34I don't want to shortchange Sherry, but on the other hand, are you coming back soon?
24:41No, we're never coming back.
24:43So I definitely have to get back and help Sabrina finish your space, but I want you to stay and have a relaxing afternoon.
24:50This is your day.
24:52And tomorrow's the big reveal.
24:53So relax tonight.
24:55I'm going to run back and we'll see you soon.
24:58See you soon.
24:59Okay.
25:00Don't work too hard.
25:01I'll try not to.
25:10You're doing a great job, Sabrina.
25:12I'm just here.
25:14No, we don't have time.
25:15Get up.
25:16I was fluffing it.
25:17You have tested this couch out enough.
25:20We have been working all night to make this place look amazing.
25:23Are you sure that I can't just stay on the couch a little longer?
25:25I want more than amazing.
25:26I want it to be perfect for Sherry.
25:32And it's not just Sherry that we need to please.
25:34It's her own kids and her daycare kids.
25:36There's a lot of people depending on the space.
25:38I just hope at the end of the day that they love the space as much as we do.
25:47Does that hurt?
25:48That might be her.
25:49Hello?
25:50Hello, my lady.
25:51Hi.
25:52Are you here?
25:53I'm pulling up right now.
25:54Okay.
25:55We'll meet you up front.
25:56Don't come in.
25:57Don't come in.
25:58Okay.
25:59Bye.
26:00Bye.
26:01Hello.
26:02Hi.
26:03Hi, Sherry.
26:04I've been up all night because I couldn't sleep.
26:05How are you feeling?
26:06Super excited and nervous.
26:07We're feeling the same way.
26:08Come on.
26:09Oh, my God.
26:10I know I'm in good hands, but I'm just feel like a little nervous that it may not be what
26:12I want to be.
26:13Okay, so we want this to be a big surprise.
26:14So you're going to have to cover your eyes.
26:15Go ahead.
26:16Okay.
26:17Ready?
26:18Oh, my goodness.
26:19I want to make sure that everyone has everything they need.
26:22Okay, so we want this to be a big surprise.
26:24So you're going to have to cover your eyes.
26:25Go ahead.
26:26Okay.
26:27Ready?
26:28Oh, my goodness.
26:29I want to make sure that everyone has everything they need.
26:31My kids as well as my daycare kids.
26:34So that's a lot of people to please.
26:36So I feel the pressure is on.
26:38You ready?
26:39Ready?
26:40No.
26:41I just want to make sure that I take care of everyone.
26:44Sherry, take a look at your new room.
26:48Oh, my goodness.
26:59What do you think?
27:00Oh, my God.
27:01Is this the same house?
27:02I don't know.
27:03This is amazing.
27:04I am just so taken back.
27:05It's just so beautiful.
27:06Oh, my God.
27:07Look at the couch.
27:09So you remember we needed seating for your family where everyone could sit and feel included.
27:16We found this massive couch for you that will fit everyone.
27:17It's comfortable.
27:18It's sophisticated.
27:19I could totally come in here and see my kids, like one of these sides.
27:20And guess what you're not going to do anymore in this space?
27:21Is this the same house?
27:22Is this the same house?
27:23I don't know.
27:24Is this the same house?
27:25I don't know.
27:26This is amazing.
27:27I am just so taken back.
27:28It's just so beautiful.
27:29Oh, my God.
27:30Look at the couch.
27:31There's a couch that I can do.
27:32This is the same house.
27:33I can't do it.
27:34It's a.
27:35It's a place where everyone could sit and feel included.
27:36Sit?
27:37We found this massive couch for you that will fit everyone.
27:39It's comfortable.
27:40It's sophisticated.
27:41I could totally come in here and see my kids, like one of these sides.
27:44And guess what you're not going to do anymore in this space?
27:46Sit on the floor.
27:47Right, right.
27:48I could have a toe come for you too.
27:51Yes!
27:53Yes, welcome here.
27:54Now we're talking.
27:57Now we're talking.
27:58Now, if you didn't notice, there's a larger TV.
28:01Massive TV.
28:02And you have this beautiful mural
28:04that's custom hand-painted just for you.
28:06That's crazy. I can't believe y'all did that.
28:08Isn't that cool?
28:09That's very, very cool.
28:10Because it's playful for the daycare vibe,
28:13but it's still sophisticated, earthy colors for the family vibe.
28:17Some people think that a mural can really overwhelm a space,
28:21but that's not necessarily the case.
28:23The key is to use darker colors on the bottom half
28:26and then go lighter on the top.
28:28I love all the colors.
28:29The gradient will soften the effect
28:31and leave the room feeling bright and airy.
28:33Did you see the lights?
28:37I love these lights.
28:42Still has something that your eyes can look up
28:44and brings a little more playfulness to the space.
28:47Very cool.
28:48It's hard to find decor pieces
28:50that can appeal to the daycare and the older kids,
28:53but I feel like these light fixtures,
28:55they add a little bit of a whimsical touch
28:57that's still sophisticated.
28:59Oh, my gosh.
29:00I have a little toy.
29:01Look how fun this little tent is.
29:03Very cute.
29:04For the kids to go in.
29:05They'll love it.
29:06They'll love that.
29:07I love tents.
29:08I love people in the rainbow play sets.
29:10Yes, they can crawl and climb on these,
29:12and step on them, and jump off of them,
29:14and do all the things they want to do.
29:15There's plenty to play with here.
29:17There's plenty to explore.
29:18We didn't want to overwhelm this space
29:20with a bunch of toys for the daycare,
29:22so we used aesthetically pleasing little decor items.
29:25And if Sherry even wants more space
29:27after the daycare shut down for the day,
29:29that tent is collapsible.
29:30So she can pack it up, step it behind the couch,
29:32and then bring it back the next morning.
29:35And I'm sure you're wondering
29:36where all of your supplies are.
29:37Right?
29:38Look at this.
29:39That is so awesome!
29:45Oh, my God!
29:46Look at all your kids' stuff.
29:48Look at all the parts in there!
29:49That's yours.
29:50It's so pretty!
29:51That you need for your businesses in here.
29:54It's so awesome.
29:55I love how you kept everything, like, together.
29:58It was folded down as a desk as well.
30:02Wow!
30:05The Dreambox cabinet is perfect for the space.
30:08It's beautiful, yet it's so much storage
30:11for all of her supplies.
30:13Then at 6 o'clock, when everybody's gone...
30:15You can actually close it all.
30:16Close it so that your family can enjoy this space.
30:19So you don't have to be out and falling around on everyone.
30:22Just having all the daycare items hidden out of sight
30:24is just gonna give her own kids
30:26a bit of a visual break from all that clutter
30:28and almost make them forget
30:29that they're sharing this space.
30:31There's also this huge ottoman,
30:33which is extra seating.
30:34You could pull it out.
30:35It's full of toys.
30:37Toys.
30:38Toys!
30:39But again, you could fill it up.
30:40In the toys.
30:42Choosing multifunctional pieces is key for this space
30:44because it creates more seating for her family
30:47and more storage for the daycare.
30:48And when it's time to tidy up,
30:50the kids can do Pavlov's cleaning
30:52and put everything in the ottoman
30:53and everything will be hidden in, like, 30 seconds.
30:55Can you remember the blue chairs that you painted?
30:57Yes!
30:58Yes!
30:59Yes!
31:00Because all these are tiny little chairs.
31:03They're not peeling and shit.
31:07This is a total game changer for me.
31:10You have an entire basket full of books.
31:12Nice!
31:13So that they're on the floor,
31:14so the kids can easily access them.
31:16All the kids have their own hooks.
31:17Oh, we don't have to put our jackets on the couch anymore.
31:19Yep, so they can put all of their backpacks there.
31:22I believe that my daycare family
31:24is going to be so proud of our new space.
31:26They're going to be happy to come in here every day.
31:29Definitely makes me feel better about my business.
31:32I know your children were saying
31:33that they wanted things for their own.
31:35Mm-hmm.
31:36So everybody has their own blankets,
31:37their own slippers in their sizes we got for them.
31:40That's so cute!
31:41So they don't have to fight over anything,
31:43and they have their own space that is customized to them.
31:46I feel like they've really reclaimed
31:49my family back in this space,
31:51and it's the perfect blend of both worlds.
31:53Do you know we're not done?
31:55No.
31:56You want to go see your own office?
31:59Take a look.
32:01Welcome to your new zen office.
32:03One.
32:06Oh, my goodness.
32:10Do you remember what this space looked like before?
32:12A mess.
32:16Sit at your new desk.
32:21Sit at your new desk.
32:22Okay.
32:23You have a new desk to sit at.
32:25We hope you don't mind your computer's no longer
32:27in the corner of your living room.
32:28No, I don't mind at all.
32:30I can sit near the window.
32:32If we had to add a desk and an office chair,
32:35it would be way too cramped.
32:37But by customizing a cushion for the window seat,
32:39we were able to really utilize the space perfectly.
32:42Everything is nicely organized.
32:46You have an entire filing system here.
32:49You have your calendar to keep track of all of the activities.
32:52So this is the business zone,
32:54but this is the lounging, relaxing area.
32:57Come take a look at your new accent chair.
32:59It's the best part.
33:00Want you to try it out for size.
33:01Very nice.
33:02You could relax here,
33:03but you could also have potential clients.
33:05When you're expanding the daycare,
33:07come meet you in here.
33:08May.
33:09Yeah, you can say meet me in my office.
33:10Yes.
33:11Yes, come to Michelle's office.
33:13I just can't believe
33:15that I finally have my own space in the house.
33:19It's just unreal.
33:20I can definitely envision myself doing some work
33:24and just planning out my next chapter.
33:27You'll remember to take time for yourself as well.
33:29Definitely.
33:30I can't wait to come back here and be like,
33:32okay, I'm going to my office with me alone.
33:35Yes.
33:36Having this office space now,
33:38just for me,
33:39is a reminder that I have to take better care of myself.
33:42I just feel like I want to lounge.
33:44Yeah, relax.
33:46Take a load off.
33:47You deserve it.
33:48Very cool.
33:49I'm just so grateful.
33:50I'm thankful.
33:51You really, really, truly deserve it.
33:53You give so much to the community
33:55and to your family,
33:56and we wanted to be able to give something back to you.
33:59I'm just excited to share it with my babies.
34:01What time do the kids come home normally?
34:03They should be walking in a minute.
34:04Okay.
34:05Nothing is more important to Sherry
34:07than making sure her kids are happy,
34:09so I really hope they like it.
34:11Fingers crossed.
34:12Oh, wait, I hear them.
34:13I hear them.
34:14I hear them.
34:15Are you guys home?
34:16Come on in, guys.
34:17Oh, my God.
34:18Oh, my God.
34:19Oh, my God.
