00:00so beautiful up here a lot of celebrities live up here do you go to a lot of celebrity parties
00:11so I used to go do you go to the parties and organize their medicine cabinets listen I gotta
00:17be honest with you what I do go to people's houses you know you could tell the house is
00:21clean that little spot between the back of the toilet and the baseboard that you can't see right
00:28and so I wipe my finger there to see how clean that house is what yeah the Dustin Hoffman's
00:34toilet that was so I love that he has such a clean toilet nothing surprises me about Sabrina anymore
00:40the fact that she checks the cleanliness of people's bathrooms when she goes in par for the
00:45course what's the big deal have you ever been to a party at her next client Megan Goods house I have
00:57not never been invited until now she's been acting for a long time she was one of the stars of Eve's
01:03Bayou and she's also in Shazam and of course I remember her in Friday because that is like one
01:08of the best movies yeah she said she needs help organizing her kitchen which coincidentally is
01:13one of my favorite rooms to organize so this is gonna be fun it's coming right up your alley
01:17I am Megan Good I am an actress producer director philanthropist this home is very special to me
01:29because it is the first home that I have ever bought on my own I've been in this place for a year now
01:36my kitchen is a show you get into places like this and you're just like what is happening in here but
01:44I'm like why I think I have tried to organize little areas but the problem is that what I've attempted to
01:52do has only kind of created more mess it's like there's water there cutting boards like appliances
01:59all these little vases up here now it's not so functional and I want the kitchen to be working for
02:05me I want to be able to cook with ease without stress and that's really hard when you don't know
02:09where anything is one word to describe my efforts to organize my kitchen on my own is feeble
02:19so pretty Wow kitchens can be a little overwhelming to keep organized because they're just not set up in a
02:35way that's easy to maintain and with all the pressure to color code your pantry and alphabetize your
02:41spices it's no wonder Megan's overwhelmed and that's why our method is perfect for somebody like
02:52Megan because I'll be able to help tackle just the organizational part and I'll be able to help her
02:56with the emotional hurdles that are keeping her from being organized stunning this view wow thank
03:03you this view is spectacular thank you it's my first home oh I love that I bought myself wow that's a big
03:11deal it's really personal for me because um my childhood home we lost when I was 14 and I think I kind
03:19of felt ever since that age that I didn't have a home and even though I've lived various places I hadn't
03:25found a home that felt like a home to me yet and one that felt like it was mine when I bought my
03:30first home I just remember I wanted every room to just be perfect it's such a big deal it's a it's a
03:36difficult achievement and when you get there you really just feel like you've made it and you want
03:40to take care of it I think the biggest thing for me is that I've never had a chance to host my family
03:46really for the holidays and I want to be able to cook in the kitchen with my mom and my sisters the way
03:51that we did growing up in our house and for you know to just kind of be the one that's like you
03:56guys come to my house yeah because our idea of kitchens are often wrapped up in the idea of family
04:02we use them to entertain we use them for get-togethers there's just a lot of pressure on that space to
04:07have it not only be functional but for it to look and feel inviting for all of your guests but in order
04:12to implement practicality and style we first have to figure out how Megan uses the kitchen
04:16oh the kitchen it's the kitchen it looks perfect thank you um but the issue is it's like
04:25everything's disorganized you can't find anything Megan's fridge look like everybody's fridge when
04:33you open it there's just a lot of stuff do you have like face masks I do you have face masks yeah
04:40yeah you have with your deli meats you have your strawberries you know girl it's like a charcuterie
04:44board in there problem with having a lot of food and not really having it organized is a lot of
04:51things go bad and it's a waste of money a little tip too that's kind of fun if you have a lot of
04:55these containers the plastic containers that have what is that um well that's the thing you could store
05:00them upside down my lord and display it that way so that way you could see what's what food is in
05:05so I can know what is that wait but what if you put in like a piece of pie and then you flip it over
05:10and maybe not for pie okay not for pie not for everything else right here's the thing even if
05:15the pie is upside down you could still eat it like it's still edible I'm just saying this is a secret
05:21candy drawer the Tupperware drawer I'm sure there's it's like you can barely even all of America's
05:27nodding at this drawer right now oh look I was looking for all those knives that should be going
05:33in the thing what and so I don't know where how those got there psychologically a kitchen is a really
05:37tough space to keep organized there's just so many possibilities and people get paralyzed they
05:43can't figure out how to make a decision oh my gosh what's in there I don't know nothing there's nothing
05:50in here and oftentimes when you don't know where things go cabinets and drawers get just stuffed with
05:56a hodgepodge of random things there's nothing in here or in Megan's case some cabinets just get
06:02left empty why do you have so much on the counters that's what's bothering me I don't know why I have
06:07one two three four five six so I have six different virgin olive oils it just depends on your mood right
06:12very common when people have too much storage in the kitchen to not really utilize it because they
06:16want the items that they use every day to be easily accessible and they just end up leaving everything
06:21on the counter but the truth is there's no hard rule you need to follow when organizing a kitchen
06:25it's about how you entertain and how you use the space when I'm designing a kitchen the layout is usually
06:30in a triangle so you have the stove the refrigerator and the sink are you right-handed or left-handed
06:35right-handed so all of your cooking utensils and tools should be in this drawer where your eating
06:42utensils could be put in another drawer where are all of your tools like spatulas and things like that
06:48on the other side Megan's right-handed so for her to cook and make it effective all of her cooking
06:54stuff should be on the right side sometimes it's just a little tweak in organizing that can
07:00really change the flow of a space so that could mean moving your utensils or if you have a pet
07:04it could be moving their food closer to where their food bowl is to make your life a lot easier what
07:09else what about the that cabinetry over there oh that's terrifying what is it um so many things
07:16just you can go ahead and look yeah oh it's like a junkyard lots of shenanigans but actually
07:22this thing um this vase is it is the first thing that I bought for my home I was in Italy visiting
07:31Whoopi Goldberg I was just going through a divorce and I bought this that was a shifting moment for me
07:38in my life and I just kept thinking I'm going to incorporate it somewhere and it wait so why is it
07:42in the drawer then because I don't know where to put it we'll find a place it's beautiful I love when
07:48someone shows us a piece that really means a lot to them it's like a crime she had it hidden away
07:53it signifies you know having a new home and I love when pieces have stories too it just makes
07:59it special because then we could really just customize the design around that I understand you
08:05know you have a space renovated and you feel like it has to be really clean and you can feel like a lot
08:08of guilt associated yeah now you feel like I'm sure inundated with the lack of organization that
08:14you're like forget it I do truly I just want to make it easy for you right so what we like to do
08:18is called a hall pass it's an area where you're allowed to be messy the hall pass is really important
08:26for Megan because she already keeps the rest of the house so immaculate and considering the amount
08:30of pressure she's put on herself to make this first home feel perfect it's important that we give
08:34her a space where she has a little more freedom to relax and I feel like we all have that I even
08:39have one in my house and it usually happens in the kitchen so it could be something like a junk drawer
08:45it could be you know a cluttered corner over there this is a spot where it's allowed to be messy and
08:50that's okay creating impossible standards for yourself whether it's at work or at home is just
08:54setting yourself up for failure and a lot of disappointment and actually there's a lot of
08:58studies that show that the lower expectations you have for yourself the happier you are and because
09:02her kitchen is the most used space in her entire house it tends to be the messiest which is why
09:06it's even more important to give her that freedom to let things go just a little bit look even I
09:11have a junk drawer that's an organized junkie look how messy that is do not use this as your example
09:18are you serious that's my glasses are in one place oh my god thank you like thank you I know let's
09:23acknowledge that that is not what real life is I feel like there's also color-coded I can't even look
09:30my junk drawers are numerous and they're fantastic but you know what we can all coexist together we'll
09:40come back tomorrow you can let us know which area that you would use as your hall pass on that note
09:46we'll leave you with that homework and we will see you tomorrow oh my god it's gonna be so fun I can't
09:51wait get some rest thank you ladies why are you here so early you shocked to see me you're drinking
10:15already I'm doing some recipe testing I had the idea of making a specialty cocktail for Megan
10:24something that she could then make for her own family for the holidays everybody needs a signature
10:30cocktail yeah what's yours beer oh creating a signature cocktail is just a great reminder for
10:36Megan that this is her home this is a place where she can host and entertain but it will also remind her
10:41subconsciously to keep the kitchen clean and organized I think once she's really happy with
10:45the space she's gonna want to have people over when you create a really fun space that you're happy to
10:50use it keeps you motivated to keep it nice and if she's gonna host her family like I want to make sure
10:54it's perfect for her because right now like it's kind of the opposite of the problems we normally face
10:59where we don't have enough space we have so much storage to utilize and I want to like clear the
11:05counters and actually style out the kitchen and style out that little beverage area too agreed
11:10so let's get out of here you want to clean this up um we can leave it I'll get it when we come back
11:16no you won't it's too early to do dishes
11:19I'm so ready I'm sorry I dreamed about my fridge and I'm just like well this is the last time it's
11:40like this by the end of today this entire kitchen is going to be reorganized yes except for one area
11:48which is going to be your hall path oh yeah you thought any more about where and what and how much
11:54I was thinking oh that it would be this space right here because I've got drawer and I've got little
12:01cupboard and I love that you chose two things because I feel like it's realistic you know like
12:07one drawer yeah it's just not enough for you it's just not gonna do it yeah I love that Megan is
12:13choosing two hall passes because it's an indication that she's learning the importance of giving herself
12:17a break and of having a bit more mess can cause a bit less stress it's a win-win I wanted to ask you
12:23about your grocery shopping habits because I noticed that you had a lot of eggs and meat but
12:28you don't have a lot of freezer space yeah so there is a lot of food shopping wise and sometimes the
12:34same things get ordered but they all get used yeah they don't go bad before they get used okay so I'm
12:39going to show you a little hack on how to store the meat to save a lot of space can I go in here yeah
12:43I'm gonna show you how to really save space in your freezer so it's gonna go down to about this
12:51all of that meat I feel like there's so many hacks in the kitchen because there's so many problems to
12:57tackle like these food packages that come in these giant plastic containers and boxes that don't even
13:01fit in your fridge or your cabinet so one of the biggest tips is to make your food fit into these spaces
13:06so what we're gonna do is we're gonna repackage the meat and this is to make the meat less tall
13:12this is the goal we're shortening the meat okay so it's just gonna take up less space and just one
13:18thing of meat goes into a bag yeah okay flatten it out we're gonna section them off too so that when
13:24you let's just say you want to just use a little bit of it you can crack it and it'll stop so you
13:29don't have to defrost the entire thing that's a great idea so you could section off once it freezes
13:37it'll easily crack the stack of meats now it can fit in your freezer this is a I have never seen
13:45anyone that's excited about kitchen hacks it's contagious it isn't now we have like a meat filing
13:51system if you ever have like a ziploc bag and you need something a lot smaller like I don't know if
14:00you're just storing something awkward you take a knife and you heat it up and then it cuts right
14:08through oh wow but now it's you have a tiny bag for your carrot sticks yeah I love the ziploc hack
14:15because instead of buying a bunch of new storage containers in various sizes you can just customize
14:20your bag to fit what you need and this is a great time-saving hack which was perfect for somebody like
14:25Megan who's always on the go and super busy another little hack I actually brought something for you
14:29from my house what it's actually in my back pocket these are water-soluble labels you carry some
14:36everywhere so we're gonna put snacks in all of your bagged stuff into canisters right to keep it fresh
14:44let's say they're chips in here yeah and you just want to write you know when they expire okay
14:48then when you're done with this and they're empty this washes right off right oh look you run it
14:57underwater and the whole thing comes right off oh my gosh they use this in restaurants a lot for
15:02leftovers wow that's crazy it's like it never happens so you could start labeling things that
15:08you wouldn't normally label like glass and plastic because the label comes off and it's like it was
15:13never there what cool right yes I just feel very empowered by everything that is available to me
15:21right now in my kitchen but especially the water-soluble strips another thing I want to show you I
15:27noticed yesterday you had that drawer of rusty knives so really easy way to clean these knives dip
15:35and lemon in the baking soda and it comes all the rust will come right off see this look
15:43wait stop wow magic usually when knives are rusted we throw them away you know and usually when I use
15:52baking soda it's to brush my teeth wow that's deep there's literally nothing on it yes stop okay let me
15:59put this down okay wow there's a lot of cleaning products in the market and there's a lot of people
16:04that tell you you need to buy this specific product to get this specific result but the truth
16:09is stables like lemon baking soda vinegar they are non-toxic and a lot less expensive than those
16:15cleaners on the market another little hack put this in your garbage disposal it disinfects and cleans
16:20your garbage disposal stop it yes stop it and you already have them lying around the house what's next
16:27what's next okay so in order for me to get this done right you guys need to go somewhere else it's part
16:33of the process yes we're gonna clean your space we're gonna organize it's gonna be incredible but
16:40we also want to get you like beyond the mess away from the stress to relax we want you to kind of
16:46reconnect with why you're doing this what's important so you and I are gonna go into your
16:51amazing backyard I'm gonna make you a signature cocktail Jen actually wrote a book on cocktails what
16:56yes yes say no more yeah one of Megan's motivations for calling us is that she wants to create a space
17:04where she can host her family and friends for the holidays most important part oh taking that extra
17:10time to plan out like a specialty cocktail or a fun menu can really give you the perspective that you
17:15need to remember why you're cleaning and tidying and what you can look forward to
17:26I am fine that Jen and Megan are enjoying a cocktail outside because now I have a little bit
17:39of peace and quiet and I have the space to myself and that is my happy place the issue with Megan's
17:45kitchen is she's not making use of the space she has and when she does it's just a hodgepodge of random
17:50items so by simply grouping products and supplies together by category it's gonna have more function
17:55her dog stuff is together all of her supplements are together oils etc cooking is going to be a
18:01breeze when I'm making a cocktail at home I wouldn't be so fancy because you're here I'm gonna try and
18:07judge it up a little bit it's gonna be a cocktail called a French 75 that's my favorite drink ever no
18:15way I swear we're gonna do a gin base today we're gonna add a little bit of simple syrup and then
18:21champagne champagne is a great ingredient for a cocktail a party a celebration a birthday an
18:29anniversary after work you can't go wrong with champagne pop this off and that happens yeah
18:38because I'm making it we love that though yeah look I love a cocktail I never said it was a great
18:43bartender well I learned if you put a pinky in it it goes down quicker we'll just drink it out of the
18:50bottle yeah obviously that's that's the most direct route a little like rim thing oh my goodness but I
18:57just like plop it in all right here we go and a toast to your first home yes hosting family hosting
19:06family and an organized kitchen an organized kitchen of it cheers cheers what do you think good oh the
19:18cocktail tastes divine so it's gonna work out it's going to be the signature drink and I'm really
19:25excited what we're doing out here is as important as what Sabrina is doing in there you can spend all
19:32day tidying but let's take a step back get out of that headspace stop worrying about the clutter and
19:38the mess and just like do something for yourself I love that do you know what I love decanting removing
19:49labels making everything just look really pretty in a refrigerator your parties would be really fun
19:55they are fun but just you know you got to leave at night whatever good vibes you're having inside I
20:01suspect I'm having a better time outside with Megan yeah I could see why you're having good vibes
20:06you're like sipping champagne while I'm inside doing all the work there's a lot of really great bonding
20:11going on I'm really sorry you're missing out on this that's just me being a crazy person
20:18like do you ever take stock of your life and just go like wow yeah I do having a home with this view I'm
20:29like what yeah it's so weird it's amazing I I definitely guess if I can go wow thank you
20:35Ben thank you Lord you said that you got like a little bit stressed about I do things if they're
20:40not so yeah so is that relate is it messiness um when things don't have a place to be or if they have
20:46a place to be and they're not in that place and they're just kind of like shrown about it it just kind
20:52of gives me anxiety one of the things that I just feel like is so important when you think about
20:57organizing and you get stressed about your mess is to have perspective when you're tackling something
21:03big it can be so overwhelming taking time to take care of yourself is key Megan's backyard can offer
21:10her actual literal perspective on her life and I want cocktail hour to be her way of acknowledging
21:17that enjoy life enjoy everything she's worked for hello yeah yeah are you nice and relaxed I am okay
21:24I want you to go and relax relax okay for a minute and not peek out so we could finish the kitchen
21:30got a little bit I need your phalanges so one hand free you got one hand free you could put the drink
21:37down I mean that's what the free hand is for though listen I'm gonna need your full attention
21:44in both of your hands to finish this kitchen transformation okay so if you can handle the
21:48rest of the handles on the cabinets we still have interior cabinet stuff and like some finishing
21:53judging in the kitchen but I think we're good oh you have to put this down and I have to handle
21:57the drill yeah I can do that all right I trust you okay have you ever held a power tool before
22:02I'm very toolsy excuse me yeah now I know you're full of it this was not a huge overhaul to Megan's
22:14kitchen I am hoping that we made enough of a difference that it's really going to make an impact with
22:19her Megan you ready yes all right come on down oh my gosh honestly I'm nervous I do trust the
22:30ladies but I'm nervous because it's hard to like let go and let someone else into your space and I'm
22:36just like what is going to be different all right oh wow oh wow
22:49wait what wow finally have a kitchen that's styled and organized it looks so good wow
23:04I was like I'm so caught off guard it looks so good wow wow wow it looks amazing
23:16so do you want to go through everything yes okay let's start let's start at the refrigerator
23:21okay so you have all of your produce together it's in specific bags that are going to make them
23:28last longer it's actually washable paper oh wow the easiest way to keep your refrigerator clean is to
23:34put your food in designated containers like these reusable paper bags everything is washed all of your
23:40produce and it's going to make your produce last a lot longer as well you can clearly see the food
23:44so you're going to be able to use it before it goes back these are all of my cheeses oh that's
23:50great and we're not asking you to go crazy and color code your fridge but we're just giving you
23:54these small tweaks that are going to go a long way to making your life easier all of your eggs have
23:59their own containers this is a little container that's labeled eat me first in case anything is
24:05going to expire now I actually look forward to getting in there into cooking I can go decompress and
24:11I can cook and have a glass of wine and just have time for myself but also do nice things for my
24:17friends and my family it makes my life easier produce is with the produce that your deli meats are
24:23with your deli meats your soups are with your soups they're like a big happy family now that
24:28everything's in its place in Megan's fridge it's going to be more fun to cook because it's going to be
24:32easy to find everything it's excellent did you get that excellent excellent no I got it okay
24:41so we switch the position cooking utensils are here it's like yeah just you're right-handed
24:49literally yep can just pull it out and then on the other side are your forks knives and spoons
24:55that's great I love this around Megan's work triangle we wanted to give her the tools to make
25:01it efficient and make it fun for her to cook since she loves it so much now everything is within reach
25:06look at the handles up yeah they've got a little patina to them they're like um vintagey yes oh I
25:13love that so it has that little bronze poking through but it also coordinates with a lot of black
25:18that you have going on and it feels old which I love yeah yeah that's freaking cool and then
25:23remember all of the oil clutter and everything yes yes so now it's organized all together oh my
25:30god here your spices are now here as well what all of your snacks are also nice and organized oh my
25:44gosh look at this so all my sweet stuff yeah is right here and everything is in clear container so
25:53you can easily see what you need to access I love a clear container especially in a kitchen or a
25:58bathroom because you have so many products you need to see clearly what's in it this just makes me
26:03very happy like just being able to spin it right and get to everything you want and need I'm able to now use
26:09the template that the ladies gave me and say okay this is the space for this this is the space for this
26:14everything is boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom I don't really know what to say it's gorgeous
26:18I don't I don't even really notice I'm just really happy I feel like lazy Susan she got a bad rap
26:23she's actually very efficient yeah I love a lazy Susan because you're able to access items that are in
26:33the back of a cabinet so it really you're just making the most of every nook and cranny in that space
26:38this is the hall pass area and as you you've already noticed it's got like a bunch of stuff in it
26:43already so we've given you a little like head start it's not perfect no it's great though I'm
26:49like I'm just taking it all in but this is you know your scissors you know whatever you want to
26:53just kind of toss in there Megan's hall pass area now is a little bit more organized it looks great
26:59but there's still a ton of storage where she can throw stuff get messy and it doesn't have to stay
27:05totally neat I feel like this is a little leaning towards my way of junk drawing but it's okay if
27:13she starts like leaning over to Jen's side of junk drawing as time elapses did you see Jen and I put
27:20it under the dining table no isn't that so pretty pretty you guys wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow
27:29that's beautiful before Megan's base was tucked away where no one can see it we really wanted to give
27:37it a place of honor on her dining room table right where she's going to be entertaining it's the first
27:42thing that I bought for my home and now like the way it's on display just kind of pulls everything
27:49together now the vase is the centerpiece of the dining area to inspire her to keep it out there
27:54to remind her how amazing this whole journey's been for her I'm literally in shock like it just looks
28:00so pretty it definitely looks like minimalistic like not going overboard perfect yes and you have
28:08plenty of room to make it even more personalized to you and how you entertain I'm very very very happy
28:14yay yay yes I'm so happy love it so now my kitchen is ready and I can host my family for the holidays
28:26for the very first time in my very first home in my very first organized kitchen
28:38this is like my dream neighborhood it's sunny it's kind of like boho I love beach living yeah
28:52can we move to the beach we could go in on a house I could never live with you oh what if I lived in the
28:58basement that's okay you could lock the door you would drive me crazy I would just never be able to find
29:03my stuff like if I drink half a glass of water and then I set it down I don't want to turn around and
29:08find it in the dishwasher that's right I'll let you have that all right so you would leave my waters
29:12wait waters why would you need two glasses of water I like to have a bedroom water no kitchen water no
29:19patio water you have one mason jar that will carry around all day I already have water restrictions
29:24know who else you should not live with who our next client Andrew he reached out because his wife
29:33Kelly is a little too neat and organized what's wrong with that sounds like she's maybe taking
29:38it a little bit too far hi my name is Kelly and this is my husband Andrew and we live with our two
29:52daughters Ella who is six and Cora is three and a half I would say we're pretty different when it
29:58comes to cleanliness and organization Andrew is always the mellow one he's always chill and then say
30:10Kelly is a bit of a neat freak I like to make sure that it's clean and organized at all times I try and
30:28make it look like the kids don't live here which I know may sound crazy because we have kids but that's
30:37how I like to operate all this time Kelly spends organizing she could be with the family well if
30:48more people picked up the mess then I would have less to do and more time to play but when we wake
30:53up on a Saturday morning and I hear no fun today until everything's picked up it kind of ruins the
31:00weekend so I think he's just like let's get our house to the point where like she can relax in it
31:08yeah and then they can have some fun normally the way it works when clients call us is the very clean
31:13person is very stressed about the messier person in the relationship this is flipped for those of
31:18us on the messier side of things I think living with someone who's very neat and organized can be a
31:24little bit stressful I'm gonna have to have a nice chat with Andrew you have to sit down no no we're
31:29here to help Kelly relax a little bit I can tell you're so excited because you think you're gonna
31:34be doing less cleaning maybe but the happy mess method still works in this scenario because no matter
31:39where you fall in the organization spectrum our method is all about finding moderation and balance
31:44this is so cute looks beautiful so we'll still get to do some cleaning we'll see I love this house
32:03yeah me too so a lot of original pieces the fireplace this is wow awesome Kelly and Andrew's house looks
32:13like it's out of a magazine it looks like after we're done with it not the before is this the
32:18space everybody usually hangs out everyone loves to be right here yeah yeah yeah including our kids I
32:24wouldn't know walking in that you had kids at all yeah I like to kind of keep it that way we
32:29entertain a lot and I like people to come in for an adult party or something right like oh wow this
32:37place is so put together and it's not a mess so I try and put everything away at the end of
32:43every night so that it doesn't look like kids live here minimalism is so trendy right now a lot of
32:48our clients come to us in pursuit of this clean and tidy home that seeks the sort of perfection that
32:53isn't realistic what about you Andrew would you just have like kids toys everywhere if it was left up to
32:58you I'm a little more chill and sort of take it as it comes like I'm like let's go to the beach
33:02let's go play battle tennis but then the kids are gonna be sandy and then there's gonna be sand and
33:07then we're gonna have to wash their hair sand can be a little messy but the thing is what Kelly
33:11doesn't realize that by prioritizing cleaning over time with her family she's missing out on a lot I
33:17believe in having a tidy space but when it stops you from living life and having fun that's when
33:22it becomes a problem where are their toys there's a downstairs kind of playroom guest room situation
33:29and then there's another playroom that's also my office and then I'm just like scurrying around
33:34picking everything up and putting it back into the playroom sometimes in my head too much of the
33:39cleaning does get in the way with just like being in the moment and Kelly sort of needs the house to
33:47be a certain way okay so you wish she would do a little less I wish she would do less and I always
33:53wish he would do a little more which is why you called us it's important to have compromise in any
33:58relationship because otherwise you just end up entrenched in your own patterns there's a lot
34:02of studies that show how important empathy is when it comes to relationships and just seeing things from
34:08your partner's point of view can help you meet in the middle so obviously these spaces don't need
34:12help right right what spaces do you feel like are neglected their playrooms okay can I we go see
34:22these this playroom yes let's go is it really a mess you told me when we go see this playroom yes let's go is
34:36it really a mess oh you told me this is the mess this is it seriously where's the mess so cute and
34:52perfect everything seems to be in its place you know I'm doing my best to keep things organized yeah
34:58and I'm trying to sort you know Legos from balls from music from dolls so I thought maybe getting
35:04these clear bins the kids would do a better job of putting music where music goes balls where balls go
35:11no that's too much work no matter how good your intentions are asking your kids to carefully
35:16subcategorize their toys is not sustainable the more subcategories and categories there are the more
35:22the kids are gonna get confused so a good trick is start by picking three basic categories that the
35:27toys can fall under like stuffies blocks and board games and buy three large baskets one for each
35:33category that way it's easy for the kids and easy to maintain there's lots of cool art and stuff here
35:38my mom made this what do you take away from this what do you see in that every piece is in its place
35:46but definitely glad Jen is here because I feel like she's got my back she can live a little more
36:02messy a little more relaxed I'm hoping that she rubs off on Kelly a little bit so what do you want this
36:09room to be I would like this just to be a guest room in office and then the other room's gonna
36:15be only a playroom only a playroom okay I would love to see the playroom okay let's go upstairs if
36:20all the rooms are as clean as this I'm wondering what the playroom looks like yeah you think that's
36:24where the mess is this is probably the only time I'm actually hoping to see a mess do not tell me this
36:29is the playroom that's messy this is the room there could be a lot more this is not a mess right I would
36:37agree with you there but do you see this room has potential yeah tell us how do the girls use this
36:43space like with reckless abandon come in and pull the books off the shelf make a stack on the bed pull
36:51some toys out of the bin discard the other ones and literally as they're playing Kelly's in here
36:58cleaning up behind them well I don't understand they're not capable of looking through something
37:02to find the thing that they want they have to dump it to see it on the floor it's like these are all
37:07stuffed animals under that blanket they will just dump the whole thing they're like oh found it and
37:13then run away yeah I'm like put it back it's just faster if I just follow them and just do it
37:20myself yes what about do you ever just wait till the end of the day to do it I just feel too
37:25distressed throughout the day if it's like the whole house is a mess as we go Kelly and I are
37:29really similar in the fact that we love to stay organized except after I had my daughter I became
37:35more relaxed about the house being tidy all the time the most important thing is time spent having
37:41fun being present and cleaning's not that important sir can you say that again cleaning is not that important
37:50wow what do you want to change yeah what do you like tell us your vision it needs like a style of
37:58its own I think we would just make use of the space a little more this tent as much as it's charming in a
38:04certain way they don't ever go in there they never use it what's this other bed so they also like do
38:09gymnastics so they're like doing yeah jobs and flips she reads to her sister what else do you want
38:15to see transformed oh costumes we have fun we have bins here and what happens is they're like I want
38:24to find my unicorn costume right nice that's what I would do this yep and then they're like and then
38:31they leave it like that here right be in this bin and then they just walk out and leave it all we have
38:37you know a hundred costumes look at all this stuff oh so this is most oh my gosh that's a lot of
38:44costumes that gets dumped out every day and I get it it's hard to find something that you want look
38:52if you have something in mind you're like I want to be my rainbow unicorn and you have to dig through
39:00four bins I love costume time I love costume time too we should do this more often oh god I love it
39:09meow so maybe there's something that you guys can do with the costumes absolutely we will
39:18figure something out yeah yeah exactly I should probably take it off all right I could play with
39:23costumes all day but we've got to get back to work so part of the process Jen and I if it's okay with
39:29you would love to see how your family like how you guys interact with the space and how you live so
39:33we can come up with a very specific method and solutions for you so if it's okay with you we're
39:39going to put up Roku cameras just to kind of like watch you guys live is that okay sure okay it's just
39:46to get a sense of like you know how the kids use this room you know all the stuff you were mentioning
39:51and just how we can better figure out how to use the space does that sound good I'm sure okay cool
39:56all right then we will see you tomorrow okay all right it's good thank you thank you I felt like
40:01this was going to be one of our easiest projects because the house is already clean
40:05what a great couple they remind me of us I know but now seeing how particular Kelly is
40:12it's gonna be a challenge
40:35it's gonna be a challenge
41:05you
41:12you
41:14you
41:16you
