00:00Are you ready to talk about Sherry?
00:05I was just going to ask you the same thing.
00:07Yes?
00:08Yes.
00:09Should we do like a little circle playtime on the rug,
00:11just to get in the moment?
00:12The couch is good for me.
00:13Yeah, OK.
00:22Lots to unpack.
00:23Yeah.
00:24I completely understand why she has mom guilt.
00:26There's no separation of the daycare
00:29and her family's home.
00:31Right.
00:32Our new client Sherry has her hands full.
00:33She's trying to make her home a multi-purpose space.
00:35But the amount of work Sherry is tackling
00:37between running her business and running her family,
00:39it's become almost impossible to make this space work
00:42in a way that makes everyone happy, including her.
00:45The kids are feeling it.
00:46But it makes sense.
00:47They come home from school.
00:48They don't have a place to go.
00:50They don't have a place to do their homework.
00:52It's not fair to them.
00:53They deserve to feel like they have a family room
00:55where they can sit together.
00:56They all deserve it.
00:57Yeah.
00:58You want to see the video?
00:59Yes.
01:00All right.
01:04Is there a way we can move the beds
01:06out of the way from the computer
01:08so it won't be so cluttered?
01:09So we can get to it?
01:10Yeah.
01:11We'll wipe it over like this,
01:12and we can get to the computer better that way.
01:18Let's put it over here.
01:20Let's move these books up away.
01:22Well, you know what?
01:23If you all look it up and help,
01:25it would happen a lot faster.
01:28Okay.
01:30Okay.
01:31So you put the books away.
01:32There's too many chairs in that pool here,
01:34I feel like.
01:35It's too cluttered.
01:37Where are you going to put them?
01:38And there's no room for us to walk through those.
01:40Good job putting them over here.
01:41How about that?
01:42Is it rolling over there now?
01:43Yeah, but then there's still, like,
01:46fluttered everywhere.
01:47Um.
01:51What struck me about watching them interact with that space
01:53is they have so much stuff in there that they need,
01:56like all the daycare stuff,
01:58but tons of stuff that they need that they don't have,
02:01like seating.
02:03We keep a lot of the stuff there,
02:05but we just need to organize it better.
02:07The other thing is the kids weren't helping clean at all.
02:09Like, it was all up to Sherry.
02:11Kids aren't really motivated to clean, really.
02:15Not naturally.
02:16I liked to organize when I was a kid.
02:18You did.
02:19I loved it.
02:20I'm shocked.
02:21Kids in the world aren't little like Sabrinas running around,
02:23like counting down the minutes until they get to clean.
02:25Especially with older kids who have their own activity,
02:27their own friendships.
02:28Which is why it's important to find ways
02:30to make cleaning more entertaining
02:31so it doesn't feel like a chore.
02:33I think that's what we aim for with Sherry's kids.
02:35All right.
02:36You ready?
02:37Yeah, I'm ready.
02:38Vamanos.
02:40That means let's go.
02:41Thanks for the translation.
02:51Hello?
02:52Hi.
02:53Come on back.
02:54We're back here.
02:55Hi, Sherry.
02:56Hi.
02:57Come on in.
02:58Hello.
02:59Hi.
03:00How are you?
03:01I'm so happy you're here.
03:02I didn't realize the kids are going to be here.
03:03Yes.
03:04Two of the five are here.
03:05Two of the five are here.
03:06Hi, guys.
03:07Nice to meet you.
03:08Hi, Sabrina.
03:09I'm Jen.
03:10Nice to meet you.
03:11And this is Jason.
03:12Hi, Jason.
03:13Hi, Jason.
03:14Serena, nice to meet you.
03:15I'm Jen.
03:16Nice to meet you.
03:17And this is Jason.
03:18Hi, Jason.
03:19Serena, nice to meet you.
03:20I'm Jen.
03:21Nice to meet you.
03:22The other ones are at track practice, basketball practice.
03:24So you're football, is that right, Jason?
03:26What sports do you play?
03:27I play football, baseball, basketball.
03:32What about you, Jada?
03:33I do track and field.
03:35I do 100 and 200.
03:36How many seconds does it take to do 100?
03:38Usually, like, 12 seconds.
03:40How much can you do it in?
03:41We should do that later.
03:42Like, a minute?
03:43A minute.
03:44Forget it.
03:45Okay.
03:46What is it like for you guys when you come home?
03:48Like, what's your normal schedule?
03:49I do come and say hi to everyone and then go to my room and do my homework.
03:54What about you?
03:55I do go on my iPad.
03:57Okay.
03:58Do you guys have friends over a lot?
04:00No.
04:01Why?
04:02Because it's embarrassing.
04:03Really?
04:04And, like, it gets messy really easily.
04:07It's crowded.
04:08Yeah.
04:09Do you feel like this space stresses out your mom?
04:12Yeah.
04:13What would you like to see happen?
04:15I would like to see Lesta.
04:17Lesta.
04:18So you guys can all have space?
04:20Yeah.
04:21And a new TV because the TV doesn't work anymore.
04:24I want these kids to have everything that they're asking for.
04:27But by just getting new stuff, it's not going to fix the problem.
04:30Because in a dual space like this, there tends to just be a lot of clutter.
04:34But there are some studies that show that having a lot of mess, especially with teenagers, can make them feel overwhelmed.
04:39So the key is going to be giving them tools to help maintain the space even after we're gone.
04:43We're going to make over this whole space.
04:45You're going to have your own amazing living room.
04:47It's going to look fantastic.
04:48But we want you to be able to keep up with the tidying.
04:52And we want you both to be part of it along with the rest of your siblings.
04:57So we have a strategy called Pavlov's Cleaning.
05:04What we want to do is associate something positive with cleaning.
05:08For example, running track.
05:10Something I know you're all good at.
05:12You're all a fast family.
05:13So what we're going to do is we're going to have a stopwatch.
05:16We're going to see how much stuff you can tidy up and put away in 30 seconds.
05:22But in here?
05:23In here.
05:24How's that sound?
05:25But we're going to have to move the couch.
05:28No, no.
05:29You don't have to move any furniture.
05:31Don't worry about that.
05:32I'd like to see that, though.
05:33That's the muscles.
05:35With Pavlov's Cleaning, we really want to use the kids' competitiveness to our advantage.
05:39Because they love sports.
05:41I mean, what sounds more fun than a cleaning competition?
05:43I'd win that every time.
05:45What's your track stance?
05:46I use blocks, please.
05:47You're on the block?
05:48Okay, yeah.
05:49So you're like this, right?
05:50All right.
05:51You're ready?
05:52Okay.
05:53We got 30 seconds.
05:54Go.
05:55Go.
05:56Go, team.
05:57Go, team.
05:58Go, team.
05:59You can do it.
06:00You can do it.
06:01You can do it.
06:02Go, Jason.
06:03Pavlov's Cleaning is so great because it allows children to associate cleaning with fun and
06:07happiness.
06:08And when their contributions are valued, they're more likely to develop a sense of self-worth
06:12and confidence.
06:13Go, team.
06:14Go.
06:15It should be something that gets everyone involved.
06:18Because it's always more fun when you have a cleaning buddy.
06:20Give me okay.
06:21The cleaning cheerleader.
06:22Give me a Gina.
06:23Give me a Jason.
06:24Sometimes when I try to motivate my daughter, we'll do like a dance party while doing dishes.
06:28Oh, I love a dance party.
06:29We dance and clean.
06:30Dance and do dishes and dance and dance.
06:32Five, four, three, two, one.
06:33All right.
06:34Good job, guys.
06:35Good job, guys.
06:36He loves it so much.
06:37I've been searching for a while now for some ideas to keep the kids involved.
06:50And because they're so competitive, incorporating the game will make them excited about helping me
06:55out and hopefully inspiring them to help me keep my space clean, neat and tidy.
06:58Me too.
06:59Good job, Jason.
07:00You will turn into a cleaning machine.
07:01And I want you guys to continue to do this.
07:03And obviously you do it differently with the older kids and the little kids.
07:06And even the toddlers, you can do the cleanup song and like sing to them and they can just
07:11clean up all of their toys too.
07:12Yeah.
07:13I just want you to get them involved more to alleviate some of the stress on you.
07:17Yeah.
07:18Right?
07:19I actually brought something fun.
07:20Hold up.
07:21Let me grab it.
07:22Now here's a great hack.
07:25To make it so easy to clean.
07:27What is it?
07:28Look at this.
07:29Okay.
07:30Grab some toys.
07:32Oops.
07:33Okay.
07:34So let's say that the daycare kids are all playing here, right?
07:38Look at how easy this cleanup is.
07:40One of the most important factors to stay consistent with cleaning is to find ways to make it quick
07:45and easy.
07:46You put all here.
07:48Messy is enclosed.
07:49You don't even see the mess anymore.
07:52You put the lid on and you're good to go.
07:54And no matter what age the kids are, it's way more likely that they're going to contribute
07:58if it's not a long, arduous process.
08:00That's why these toy sacks are so awesome because it just takes a few minutes to clean up a big mess.
08:05Isn't that great?
08:06That's awesome.
08:07So the mess is in here, but you don't see it anymore.
08:09But it's so tidy.
08:10Yeah.
08:11Cool, right?
08:12Yeah.
08:13Okay.
08:14We do need more of those.
08:15You're right, Jason.
08:16You're absolutely right.
08:17The wedding organizer right here.
08:19I think that toy sack hack is going to be great.
08:22It's going to make it easy for the little ones to help keep it clean.
08:25And it also leaves no room or excuses for the older ones because you may know exactly where everything belongs.
08:31Okay.
08:32So we're going to go.
08:33Homework for tonight is just to help your mom a little bit more clean.
08:36Yes.
08:37And then we will see you tomorrow.
08:38Okay.
08:39And that's tomorrow's when the real work begins.
08:40Yeah.
08:41It's when the space starts to get transformed.
08:43Yeah.
08:44So you could say goodbye to being embarrassed about this room because you are not only going to love the space,
08:49you're going to want everybody to come over when we're done.
08:51Okay.
08:52Are you excited about that?
08:53Yes.
08:54Okay.
08:55All right.
08:56We'll see you tomorrow.
08:57Okay.
08:58Bye, guys.
08:59Bye.
09:00Have fun.
09:01Do you think the kids are going to actually do some cleaning for Sherry?
09:02I think just watching them, they seem so competitive.
09:04They're not going to want to lose even a cleaning competition.
09:07So fingers crossed.
09:22Hi, Sherry.
09:23Hi.
09:24Hi.
09:25Come on in.
09:26Hello.
09:27How are you guys?
09:28Good to see you.
09:29Hi.
09:30Wow.
09:31It looks so clean in here.
09:32Oh, yeah.
09:33The kids help?
09:34Yes, they did.
09:35We played the game.
09:36You did?
09:37We did.
09:38Put everything away.
09:39Put everything away.
09:40Put everything away.
09:41Put everything away.
09:42Good job.
09:43Go, guys.
09:44Go, go, go.
09:45You're doing a great job.
09:46Jason helped out the most.
09:47He did.
09:48He really got excited about the game.
09:49I like that he was into it.
09:50It's the competition of it all.
09:52It is.
09:53It's a competitive family.
09:54I have a feeling Sherry's kids weren't the time to pass up on a challenge.
09:58And if the kids feel more ownership over the space, it's going to motivate them to keep
10:02it clean.
10:03Speaking of kids, where is everyone?
10:04My kids are at school.
10:05And the daycare is closed today because we're so excited that you guys are here to help me
10:10clean up.
10:11So I know you already know Pavlov's cleaning because we did it last night with the kids.
10:15We also have another method called need, want, hate.
10:21This is a shared space.
10:23And we know your kids spoke a little bit about having some resentment towards the daycare
10:28space encroaching on the family space.
10:29Exactly.
10:30We know running a business out of your home, there's going to be things that you might not
10:33necessarily want to keep in a family room, but you need to keep for the business.
10:37So the way that it works is we look at what you absolutely need.
10:41So for the business, it may be a file folder.
10:44The stuff that you want is maybe things with sentimental value, anything that just really
10:49brings you joy.
10:50And then the last step is we figure out what you hate in the space, old chairs that you
10:54don't need or, you know, a broken TV.
10:57Then we could start kind of figuring out how to customize a room just for you.
11:01So that we maximize your daycare space and your family space and that everything exists
11:06together peacefully.
11:08Need, want, hate is the perfect method for Sherry because she has one space that has to serve
11:12two completely separate functions.
11:14But it's really difficult for Sherry to make decisions about what's in the best interest
11:18for her business when she's constantly worrying about how it may affect her own kids.
11:22So in order to simplify everything, we're going to focus on the need, want, hate items for the daycare.
11:27All right, so need, what do you need for daycare?
11:30Well, I really need room for books because we love to read.
11:34I love that answer.
11:35I know.
11:36Most important.
11:37Yes.
11:38I love inspiring young readers, so it has to be room for books.
11:41Absolutely.
11:42Yeah.
11:43By solely focusing on one area at a time, it can allow you to make really instinctive
11:47decisions about what's working.
11:48And more importantly, we're going to take away some of that emotional guilt that Sherry feels
11:52when she's trying to figure out how to please everyone.
11:54For daycare, what do you want in the space?
11:56I want room for materials like crayons and markers.
12:01And we'd like to do art during daycare, so sometimes there's not room on the couches
12:06for that or at the computer table because it's just cramps.
12:10And once we figure out what's needed for the daycare, it's going to be so much easier
12:14for us to figure out how to make space for our own kids.
12:17OK, and then hate.
12:18I hate these blue chairs.
12:20They look like they've been around the block.
12:22They have, and they're peeling, and they're chipped, and they're just eyesore.
12:25Donate?
12:26Donate, for sure.
12:27Bye.
12:28Bye, blue chair.
12:29Bye.
12:30But we still need daycare seating as well.
12:33Yes.
12:34OK.
12:35If you're somebody like Sherry who works from home, it's important to periodically go through
12:38need, want, hate.
12:39I hate these sheets that I have on the couches.
12:43Yes.
12:44Because if your home office is inundated with clutter, that's not going to set you up for
12:48success, and it could affect your wallet.
12:51So now that we're all on the same page of what you need, want, and hate for this space,
12:55I want you to go take a little break.
12:57Jen and I and the team are going to clear everything out, and then when we're done, then we're going
13:01to use our zoning method so you can visually see how this space is going to flow.
13:06Is it going to be end zones, like a field for the kids?
13:09Yeah.
13:10Is this touchdown?
13:11I don't know.
13:12Yes.
13:14Yes.
13:15I love football.
13:16Hike.
13:17I think that's for hiking.
13:19Bullseye.
13:20That is football.
13:22I think we should probably stick to organizing.
13:25How are you feeling?
13:26Are you anxious?
13:27I'm very anxious and a little nervous.
13:29Yeah.
13:30So you go take a break.
13:31Put your feet up.
13:32Go relax.
13:33Then we'll see you in a little bit.
13:34All right.
13:35All right.
13:36Ready?
13:37Yes.
13:38Creating two different functions for this room means we have to be really methodical
13:41about what portion is for the daycare and what portion is for her family.
13:46Grab this and put it outside.
13:48Okay.
13:49I got the crib.
13:50Black and play.
13:52Spoke too soon.
13:53I got the chair.
13:55For some people, having too many things in your line of vision can reduce your brain's
14:00capacity for making decisions.
14:02So by emptying out your space, it'll give you a clearer picture of the room's potential.
14:06Oh, this is heavy.
14:08Oh my God.
14:09Also made of lead.
14:11Although seeing your space totally empty could be super jarring, so I don't know how
14:16Shari's going to react.
14:17Shari.
14:18Shari.
14:19I hear an echo.
14:20Ta-da.
14:21Oh my goodness.
14:23Ta-da.
14:24Wow.
14:25When's the last time we saw this room empty when you bought the house?
14:27I'm so excited.
14:28I'm so excited.
14:29I'm so excited.
14:30I'm so excited.
14:31I'm so excited.
14:32I'm so excited.
14:33I'm so excited.
14:34You saw this room empty when you bought the house?
14:36Yeah.
14:37It's bigger than the pond.
14:39Yeah.
14:40It's so big.
14:41It's a massive space.
14:42Yeah, it's a nice size.
14:43And I'm echoing, so it's kind of burning me out.
14:45But yeah.
14:46Don't worry.
14:47It's going to be filled soon enough.
14:48So I wanted to talk to you about the zones that we touched on earlier.
14:51Right.
14:52So we're going to do different colors for different zones.
14:58Okay.
14:59So this is going to be your family zone.
15:01Purple.
15:02Sunroom.
15:03And then green will be daycare.
15:04There are three different ways that people learn.
15:06Visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.
15:08And colored zoning is so great for visual learners.
15:11First thing, you have the TV there.
15:13We're going to upgrade that situation for you.
15:16Okay.
15:17And Jason was really adamant about having a huge sofa.
15:21Yeah.
15:22You said that you sit on the floor to watch, to hang out?
15:24Sometimes, yeah.
15:25You comfortable?
15:26No.
15:29We're not doing that anymore.
15:30So I know this is a little crazy, but what is?
15:35When you have a multi-purpose space like Sherry's, where each area is sort of blending into each other,
15:41the different colors can help you differentiate how each zone is going to work.
15:45Wow.
15:46I know.
15:47There's going to be enough seating.
15:48I think there's going to be more than enough seating.
15:50We know there's a lot of competing energies and purposes in this room.
15:53Yeah.
15:54This adult sectional is going to be for your family.
15:57A real-sized couch.
15:58Wow.
15:59It's huge.
16:00And no daycare stuff.
16:01I want the kids to have a place to lounge.
16:03The best part about taping off zones is that it allows you to really maximize every nook and cranny,
16:08whether it's a challenging space or a multifunctional one like this one.
16:12Then here is going to be a family-only situation where each kid has their own space for their own things, meaning daycare off limits.
16:25They'll love the sound of that.
16:27And it's fun.
16:28You can get creative.
16:29You can make like a tape masterpiece on the floor.
16:31Or we can just plan out the design.
16:33Yeah.
16:34If you want to be boring.
16:35Purple tape represents the sherry-only space for your business, for your zen, for whatever you need.
16:40If you want to come here and have a moment and relax, it's for you.
16:44For me.
16:45Wow.
16:46Exactly.
16:47Now that we've cleared out the bedroom, it's so nice to see we actually have a good amount of space just for sherry.
16:51Lastly, before you had your computer over here.
16:54Mm-hmm.
16:55Okay, but now that everything office-related is going to the sherry-only zen space,
17:00what if we set up tables and chairs and the daycare area over here?
17:05Now that you guys are giving me some order, I really think that's going to be good.
17:09Yeah, because we don't want to mess up your system.
17:11What system?
17:12In the past, I have tried to organize, and I usually just come up with these different piles of stuff in different various sections,
17:22and sometimes stuff gets intertwined.
17:24So it was really nice to clear out the space and really seeing the different spaces defined.
17:31We have family, daycare, office then there. Does that flow feel good to you?
17:37That feels amazing. I've never had any this much separation.
17:40I know.
17:41So I'm really excited that things we're going to finally have at this place.
17:45Now that there's a specific zone just for family, I can feel less guilty about the daycare taking over, our family space,
17:52and even having a little room for myself. I'm really excited about that.
17:56Okay, so now that everything's laid out, it's time for me to get to work.
18:00And I have a surprise for you, sherry. Are you ready?
18:02I love surprises.
18:03Okay, so what we do is something called taking you beyond the mess.
18:07We know it's really stressful. You work really hard. You've got five kids.
18:11Yeah. It's tough. You don't get a lot of time for yourself.
18:13But we want to do something to give back to you.
18:15So we're going to go to the spa right now.
18:18Really?
18:19Get your nails done because you deserve it.
18:22You deserve this.
18:40I really don't realize what I do every day. Normal, I'm just operating on autopilot.
18:46It's easy for me to do things for other people, but like to receive the help myself and to have someone else kind of talk about that, it's always hard for me to hear.
18:56I'm excited. Thank you.
18:58Seeing sherry break down really hurt my heart because it just shows us she never takes time for herself ever.
19:05And I think people feel like taking time for yourself is being selfish, but it's just so important to do it.
19:11Especially as a mom, there's so much pressure to put yourself last and it's just not the way it should be.
19:15All right, so we'll see you soon. Go have fun.
19:18I wasn't expecting anything for myself other than just to get the roommate over, so I'm really grateful and excited about just having a little time for myself.
19:29When's the last time you went to a spa? It sounds like it's been a while.
19:33Yes, it has been.
19:34Honestly, the last gift certificate I got, I re-gifted to someone else, to be very honest with you.
19:39I didn't have time to go, so I just gave it to someone else before it expired.
19:43Have you given any thought to what you want to get done?
19:46I think a manicure.
19:47You're thinking manicure?
19:48Yeah, I'm thinking manicure.
19:49Okay.
19:50I think it's a good silk.
19:51Me too.
19:52You're going to be really kicking back today.
20:04This is so nice.
20:05Ready to get our nails done?
20:07Yeah.
20:08Okay.
20:09It's just around here.
20:10It's this really cute little spot.
20:12Hello.
20:13Hi.
20:14Hi.
20:15Welcome.
20:16Hi.
20:17Hi.
20:18This is Sherry.
20:19Hi, Sherry.
20:20Hi.
20:21Welcome.
20:22Great to see you again.
20:23Nice to see you.
20:24Thank you so much for setting this up for us.
20:26It looks amazing.
20:27Sherry selflessly puts everyone in her life and all of their needs ahead of her own.
20:32And still it never feels like enough.
20:34What do we want to do today?
20:35So we're thinking manicures.
20:38Perfect.
20:39It's a really special day for Sherry.
20:41Yay.
20:42We're getting her a pampered spa day.
20:44Great.
20:45And maybe we want to add on some massages then.
20:47Massages then.
20:48Let's do it.
20:49Okay.
20:50But doing more and more for everyone but herself is not going to be sustainable.
20:55Because when you get stressed your body releases cortisol and that can have negative effects
20:59on your mental health and your physical health as well.
21:01So how are you feeling being out of the house now with everything that's been going on?
21:05I'm really enjoying this experience.
21:08I'm kind of worried about the kids.
21:09I always worry about them whenever I'm away.
21:12The babies.
21:13Does the daycare close ever?
21:15Like is it open?
21:16On the weekend they're closed.
21:17Okay.
21:18So you do have the weekends to yourself.
21:19I'm not doing daycare business.
21:21I'm doing my kid business.
21:23You give so much of your energy to your kids at daycare.
21:26And so much of your energy to your kids all day every day.
21:30And it's really tough to take time just for yourself.
21:34Yeah it can be.
21:36So it's really important for me and for Sabrina to make sure that you're rested and reset.
21:42Because in addition to making your home look really incredible, we want to get your head right too.
21:48And that's why I wanted to give you this little break and remind you how important it is to take care of yourself.
21:55Even if it's just five minutes, closing the bathroom door, taking that time.
22:00I would love for this to be a regular practice for you.
22:03Definitely.
22:04Yeah.
22:05I think it's really realistic thinking to just try to time out in like small increments.
22:10Yeah.
22:11Obviously you're not going to just be able to traipse away whenever you want.
22:15This is really just about finding like a little bit more time for yourself in whatever way that you're able to do it.
22:21So that you're then able to keep giving.
22:23Definitely.
22:24I think that learning to take time for myself was going to be really important moving forward in general.
22:29Just so I can be a better mom and better care provider for others.
22:32Yeah.
22:33Sometimes when you're in autopilot and you're just working, working, working, you don't have time to like always take a step back and take a break and really assess what's going on.
22:42So by kind of pulling me out of it, it's really giving me a perspective that I'm always thinking about others and so I need to sit back and take a moment sometimes just to give a little self care to myself.
22:53It's a balance.
22:54I really am grateful though.
22:55I'm really grateful for all this whole experience.
22:57I'm looking forward to going back into my space in a clear way.
23:02When we get back, it's going to be your place, but even better.
23:05It's going to be so good.
23:06I'm really excited though, but I really am.
23:24This looks so awesome.
23:27Because we're trying to serve both the daycare and Sherry's family at the same time, it's important that we infuse touches that appeal to everyone.
23:35So for instance, adding this wall mural will add color and visual interest for the daycare, but I think Sherry's family is going to love it too.
23:42That guy's big.
23:45By adding special touches that were specifically requested by Sherry's family, this space will feel not only upgraded, but customized just for them.
23:53Like I want this for my house, for all my craft supplies.
23:57But we still have three separate zones that need to be transformed, which means we have a lot of work to get these spaces ready.
24:04So I think Jen has had enough relaxation time.
24:19Oh, that's so nice.
24:20Ooh, it feels so amazing.
24:23Oh, got a text.
24:28It's from Sabrina.
24:30She says, hi, how's the spa day going?
24:34I don't want to shortchange Sherry, but on the other hand, are you coming back soon?
24:38But we're never coming back.
24:39So I definitely have to get back and help Sabrina finish your space, but I want you to stay and have a relaxing afternoon.
24:50This is your day.
24:52And tomorrow's the big reveal.
24:53So relax tonight.
24:55I'm going to run back and we'll see you soon.
24:57See you soon.
24:58Okay.
24:59Don't work too hard.
25:00I'll try not to.
25:01You're doing a great job, Sabrina.
25:04I'm just here.
25:05No, we don't have time.
25:06Get up.
25:07I was flipping it.
25:08You have tested this couch out enough.
25:09We have been working all night to make this place look amazing.
25:10Are you sure that I can't just stay on the couch a little longer?
25:11I want more than amazing.
25:12I want it to be perfect for Sherry.
25:13And it's not just Sherry that we need to please.
25:14It's her own kids and her daycare kids.
25:15There's a lot of people depending on the space.
25:16I just hope you can have a great job.
25:17You're doing great job, Sabrina.
25:18Great job, Sabrina.
25:19I'm just here.
25:20No, we don't have time.
25:21Get up.
25:22I was flipping it.
25:23You have tested this couch out enough.
25:24We have been working all night to make this place look amazing.
25:27Are you sure that I can't just stay on the couch a little longer?
25:28I want more than amazing.
25:29I want it to be perfect for Sherry.
25:32And it's not just Sherry that we need to please.
25:34It's her own kids and her daycare kids.
25:37There's a lot of people depending on the space.
25:40I just hope at the end of the day that they love the space as much as we do.
25:47Is that her?
25:48That might be her.
25:49Hello?
25:50Hello, my lady.
25:51Hi, are you here?
25:53I'm pulling up right now.
25:55Okay, we'll meet you up front.
25:56Don't come in.
25:57Don't come in.
25:58Okay.
25:59Bye.
26:04Hello.
26:05Hi.
26:06Hi, Sherry.
26:07I've been up all night because I couldn't sleep.
26:09How are you feeling?
26:10Super excited and nervous.
26:12We're feeling the same way.
26:13Come on.
26:14Oh, my God.
26:15I know I'm in good hands, but I'm just feel like a little nervous that it may not be what
26:20I want it to be.
26:21Okay, so we want this to be a big surprise, so you're going to have to cover your eyes.
26:24Go ahead.
26:25Okay.
26:26Ready?
26:27Oh, my goodness.
26:28I want to make sure that everyone has everything they need.
26:31My kids as well as my daycare kids.
26:34So that's a lot of people to please, so I feel the pressure's on.
26:38You ready?
26:39Ready?
26:40No.
26:41I just want to make sure that I take care of everyone.
26:44I don't know.
26:45I don't know.
26:46Sherry, take a look at your new room.
26:47Oh, my goodness.
26:49Sherry, take a look at your new room.
27:01Oh, my goodness.
27:04What do you think?
27:06Oh, my God.
27:09Is this the same house?
27:18Iona.
27:19This is amazing.
27:20I am just so taken back.
27:23It's just so beautiful.
27:25Oh, my God.
27:26Look at the couch.
27:28So you remember we needed seating for your family where everyone could sit and feel included?
27:33Sit.
27:34We found this massive couch for you that will fit everyone.
27:38It's comfortable.
27:39It's sophisticated.
27:41I could totally come in here and see my kids, like, one on these sides.
27:44And guess what you're not going to do anymore in this space?
27:47Sit on the floor.
27:48Right.
27:49Right.
27:50I could have a toe come for you, too.
27:51Yes.
27:52Yes, Mother Bear.
27:54Now we're talking.
27:56Now we're talking.
27:57Now we're talking.
27:58Now, if you didn't notice, there's a larger TV.
28:01Massive TV.
28:02Wow.
28:03And you have this beautiful mural that's custom hand-painted just for you.
28:07That's crazy.
28:08I can't believe y'all did that.
28:09Isn't that cool?
28:10That's very, very cool.
28:11Because it's playful.
28:12Very.
28:13For the daycare vibe.
28:14Okay.
28:15But it's still sophisticated, earthy colors for the family vibe.
28:18Some people think that a mural can really overwhelm a space, but that's not necessarily the case.
28:23The key is to use darker colors on the bottom half and then go lighter on the top.
28:28I love all the colors.
28:30The gradient will soften the effect and leave the room feeling bright and airy.
28:34Did you see the lights?
28:36I love these lights.
28:38It still has something that your eyes can look up and brings a little more playfulness to
28:47the space.
28:48Very cool.
28:49It's hard to find decor pieces that can appeal to the daycare and the older kids, but I feel
28:54like these light fixtures, they add a little bit of a whimsical touch that's still sophisticated.
28:59Oh my gosh, I have a little toy.
29:02Look how fun this little tent is.
29:04Very cute.
29:05For the kids to go in.
29:06I love it.
29:07They'll love that.
29:08I love tents.
29:09I love people.
29:10Cute little rainbow play sets.
29:11Yeah, they can crawl and climb on me and step on them and jump off of them and do all
29:15the things they want to do.
29:16There's plenty to play with here.
29:18There's plenty to explore.
29:19We didn't want to overwhelm this space with a bunch of toys for the daycare, so we used
29:23aesthetically pleasing little decor items.
29:26And Asheri even wants more space after the daycare shut down for the day.
29:29That tent is collapsible.
29:31So she can pack it up, stuff it behind the couch, and then bring it back the next morning.
29:35And I'm sure you're wondering where all of your supplies are.
29:38Right?
29:39Look at this.
29:40Look at this.
29:41That is so awesome.
29:44Oh my God.
29:45Look at all your kids stuff.
29:47Look at all your parts in there.
29:48That is yours.
29:49It's so pretty.
29:50That you need for your businesses in here.
29:54It's so awesome.
29:55I love how you kept everything, like, together.
29:58And this folds down as a desk as well.
30:03Wow.
30:05The Dreambox cabinet is perfect for the space.
30:09It's beautiful, yet it's so much storage for all of her supplies.
30:13Then at 6 o'clock when everybody's gone.
30:15You can actually close it off.
30:16Right.
30:17So that your family can enjoy this space.
30:19So you don't have to be out and falling down on everyone.
30:22Just having all the daycare items hidden out of sight is just going to give her own kids
30:26a bit of a visual break from all that clutter and almost make them forget that they're sharing this space.
30:31There's also this huge ottoman, which is extra seating.
30:34You could pull it out.
30:35It's full of toys.
30:37Toys!
30:38But again, you could fill it up.
30:40In the toys.
30:42Choosing multifunctional pieces is key for this space because it creates more seating for her family
30:47and more storage for the daycare.
30:49And when it's time to tidy up, the kids can do Pavlov's cleaning and put everything in the ottoman
30:53and everything will be hidden in, like, 30 seconds.
30:56Can you remember the blue chairs that you painted?
30:58Yes.
30:59Because all these are tiny little chairs.
31:06Staying that feeling and shit.
31:09This is a total game changer for me.
31:11You have an entire basket full of books.
31:13Nice.
31:14So that they're on the floor so the kids can easily access them.
31:17All the kids have their own hooks.
31:18Oh, we don't have to put our jackets on the couch anymore.
31:20Yep.
31:21So they can put all of their backpacks there.
31:23I believe that my daycare family is going to be so proud of our new space.
31:27They're going to be happy to come in here every day.
31:30Definitely makes me feel better about my business.
31:32I know your children were saying that they wanted things for their own.
31:35Mm-hmm.
31:36So everybody has their own blankets, their own slippers in their sizes we got for them.
31:40That's so cute.
31:41So they don't have to fight over anything and they have their own space that is customized to them.
31:47I feel like they've really reclaimed my family back in this space.
31:51And it's the perfect blend of both worlds.
31:54Do you know we're not done?
31:55No.
31:56You want to go see your own office?
31:59Take a look.
32:01Welcome to your new Zen office.
32:04What?
32:06Oh my goodness.
32:08Do you remember what this space looked like before?
32:12A mess.
32:21Sit at your new desk.
32:22At your new desk.
32:23Okay.
32:24You have a new desk to sit at.
32:26We hope you don't mind your computer's no longer in the corner of your living room.
32:29No, I don't mind at all.
32:31I can fit near the windows.
32:33If we had to add a desk and an office chair, it would be way too grand.
32:37But by customizing a cushion for the window seat, we were able to really utilize the space perfectly.
32:45Everything is nicely organized.
32:47You have an entire filing system here.
32:49You have your calendar to keep track of all of the activities.
32:52So this is the business zone, but this is the lounging, relaxing area.
32:57Come take a look at your new accent chair.
32:59It's the best part.
33:00I want you to try it out for size.
33:01Very nice.
33:02You could relax here, but you could also have potential clients.
33:06When you're expanding the daycare, come meet you in here.
33:08Nice.
33:09Yeah, you can say, meet me in my office.
33:11Yes.
33:12Yes, come to Michelle's office.
33:14I just can't believe that I finally have my own space in the house.
33:19It's just unreal.
33:21I can definitely envision myself doing some work and just planning out my next chapter.
33:27You'll remember to take time for yourself as well.
33:30Definitely.
33:31I can't wait to come back here and be like, okay, I'm going to my office with me alone.
33:36Having this office space now, just for me, is a reminder that I have to take better care of myself.
33:42I just feel like I want to lounge.
33:44Yeah, relax.
33:46Take a load off.
33:47You deserve it.
33:48Very cool.
33:49I'm just so grateful.
33:50I'm thankful.
33:51You really, really, truly deserve it.
33:53You give so much to the community and to your family, and we wanted to be able to give something back to you.
33:59I'm just excited to share it with my babies.
34:02What time do the kids come home normally?
34:04They should be walking in and doing it.
34:05Okay.
34:07Nothing is more important to Sherry than making sure her kids are happy, so I really hope they like it.
34:11Fingers crossed.
34:13Oh, wait.
34:14I hear them.
34:15I hear them.
34:16I hear them.
34:17Are you guys home?
34:18Come on in, guys.
34:19Oh, my God.
34:20Oh, my God.
34:26Seeing Sherry love the space was amazing.
34:29The kids brought it to a whole new level.
34:32America, look at our couch.
34:34What do you think?
34:35Check out the couch.
34:36Sit.
34:37Sit.
34:38Oh, my God.
34:40New TV, Jason.
34:42Whittle.
34:43Yes!
34:44Yes!
34:45Chasey!
34:46This makes me feel so happy that the kids are enjoying their new space.
34:52Oh, my God.
34:53Look at my mom.
34:54Oh, my God.
34:55Oh, my God.
34:56Oh, my God.
34:57They seem so happy to see the different centers and the daycare and the family room blended together.
35:06Open that up.
35:07Open that up, Jayla.
35:08Oh, my goodness.
35:09Oh, my God.
35:10Oh, my God.
35:11Whole new supply for the daycare.
35:13Oh, my God.
35:15Look how cool this is.
35:16It opens.
35:17This is a desk that comes down.
35:19Jason.
35:20Oh, perfect for you to do that homework.
35:21Jason.
35:22I don't want to hear no struggles.
35:24Jason, that is so perfect.
35:25There go orange market.
35:26There go blue market.
35:27Get that homework.
35:28Jason.
35:29Their responses just made my heart feel so warm.
35:33Do you love it?
35:34No excuses.
35:35Just to see that they were happy for me and they were happy for our new space.
35:40So when we met, you were saying that you were embarrassed to bring friends over.
35:46Are you going to bring friends over?
35:54So when we met, you were saying that you were embarrassed to bring friends over.
36:00Are you going to bring friends over?
36:02Yeah.
36:03Yeah.
36:04Yes.
36:05I'm sleeping here tonight.
36:08You sleeping in here tonight?
36:09You sleeping in here tonight, JC?
36:11I'm traveling to sleep.
36:12You guys can all sleep here.
36:14It's so rewarding to be able to give this space to Sherry.
36:19And I think the resentment that she felt from having these dual spaces is now gone.
36:25Your mom deserves it.
36:26She does deserve it.
36:27She does deserve it.
36:28And I want to show you something Jen and I also created.
36:31Remember there were cubbies for the daycare?
36:34These are for you.
36:35Each and every one of you have your own, like Chasen.
36:38You have your own blanket.
36:39True blanket.
36:40I even put some candy in there for you, mom.
36:42If mom says it's okay to eat.
36:44No, just have your own cubbies.
36:46Mia, Jada, miracle.
36:47You've got slippers.
36:48Miracle.
36:49Yes.
36:50It's one thing to transform a room for a couple or one person.
36:56This was for an entire family of six.
36:59It was just so rewarding.
37:00Look at the little slippers.
37:01Look at the little slippers.
37:02Oh my goodness.
37:03Oh, is this a charger?
37:05Hallelujah.
37:06I'll be needing one.
37:07It's going to change her whole family going forward.
37:14It's going to change her whole life.
37:16Group hug.
37:17Group hug.
37:18Group hug.
37:19Group hug.
37:20We're both a hugger.
37:21We all love hugging around here.
37:22Watch my shoes.
37:23Thank you guys.
37:24Your family is so beautiful.
37:25I feel so good that I've given this gift to myself as well as my family.
37:32And that I'm just so grateful to Sabrina and Jen for that.
37:36Bye, Sabrina.
37:37Enjoy.
37:38Bye, Sabrina.
37:39Enjoy your office space too, Sherri.
37:40Thank you so much.
37:41This season, we helped so many clients find new methods to help keep their homes clean and
37:48organized.
37:49Need, want, hate.
37:50Easy.
37:51That's it.
37:52Get it in, Alina.
37:53I'm a saver.
37:54You're going to get to keep everything.
37:55I love that.
37:56We got a million hole passes.
37:57No way.
37:58While making sure we had realistic solutions for them to keep things maintained long after
38:07we're gone.
38:08Dip a lemon in the baking soda and all the rest will come right off.
38:12Wait, stop.
38:13Oh, it's like new again.
38:15That's pretty cool.
38:16It's like a brand new car.
38:18So the mess is in here, but you don't see it anymore.
38:20Okay.
38:21That's pretty fabulous.
38:22We do need more of us.
38:23You're right, Jason.
38:24Because as we always say, there is nothing wrong with a little bit of clutter.
38:27And mess is not a bad word.
38:29It is very common and very normal to have rooms that look like this.
38:34I firmly believe it's not about the stuff.
38:36It's about putting systems in place for you to live your best life.
38:39I just feel like I can do it now.
38:41Of course you can.
38:42I can do these things.
38:43You have no idea how much of our job is just about making people feel heard and giving them a little bit of permission to not be perfect.
38:49You want after a long day to just do that and close it.
38:54We are okay with that.
38:55Whether we're helping celebrities.
38:57It looks so good.
38:58Oh my God.
38:59Oh my God.
39:00Or families.
39:01What is this?
39:02Oh my God.
39:03I love it.
39:04No matter what, we always help people meet in the middle.
39:18Oh my goodness.
39:19What is this?
39:20Why what?
39:21Where are we?
39:22And we have fun doing it.
39:23Yeah.
39:24Oppa.
39:25You get a t-shirt.
39:26You get a t-shirt.
39:27You get a t-shirt.
39:28You get a t-shirt.
39:29Unmentionables labeled unmentionables.
39:30Organizing can be fun.
39:31Sometimes.
39:32You guys.
39:34Oh my God.
39:35And they've made like our wildest dreams come true.
39:37We always help people meet in the middle.
39:38Oh my goodness.
39:39What is this?
39:40What is this?
39:41What is this?
39:42What is this?
39:43What is this?
39:44What is this?
39:45What is this?
39:46What is this?
39:48And that's why it's called the happy mess method.
