00:00Your Football Friday just got a whole lot better.
00:03And not from staring at me, Donnie Wrightside, or Joe Ranieri.
00:06We got Coach Terry Bowden.
00:07We see him each and every week on a Friday to tee up the weekend.
00:10Because why?
00:11Coach knows ball.
00:12Coach Terry Bowden, welcome into the early line on a Football Friday.
00:17Great Football Friday, but I got an early start.
00:19I took NC State last night, and I'm ahead of the game right now.
00:23One game to nothing.
00:24Seven and a half points.
00:25I took them, and they won by 10.
00:27But we got some good ones coming up.
00:30Coach has money to spend today, and we love to see it.
00:33Now, Coach, if anybody doesn't know, and you should, big-time SEC program in Auburn,
00:38he was the head of.
00:39Undefeated Auburn back in the 1990s.
00:42I just want to ask this question.
00:43Georgian Tennessee is coming up.
00:44Coach, give me the lay of the land.
00:46On a Saturday in the SEC, you're a coach, you're a fan, you're a player.
00:50And what you can expect in these stadiums,
00:52and how much fun it is to coach and play in those environments.
00:55In the SEC, you're going to get the biggest stadiums with the greatest enthusiasm,
01:01most passion for the games.
01:03You know, it's a religion down south.
01:06And NFL is second to the NCAA football.
01:10And these two teams, Georgia and Tennessee, you can't beat their home field.
01:14And Tennessee, with over 100,000 people, it will be rocking on Rocky Top.
01:18All right, Coach, so you heard me talk about it.
01:24I like Tennessee in this spot at home, getting points.
01:28I will take, because I think they have the better offense.
01:31I think both defenses are similar.
01:34Georgia has owned this series.
01:36What do you think happens here on Saturday?
01:39Well, see, I tend to go with some coaching things that I see.
01:42You know, Josh Heifel versus Kirby Smart.
01:44Josh Heifel has won 23 out of 24 in Neyland Stadium.
01:49That one loss came to Kirby Smart and Georgia.
01:52Every single game against Georgia, he's lost about 14 or more points.
01:57Here's what I'm saying.
01:58Kirby Smart is an old DC.
02:00He has Josh Heifel figured out.
02:03He knows how to beat Josh Heifel with this year's athletes or last year's athletes.
02:08So from a standpoint of keeping the score down,
02:10I think Georgia will have the edge.
02:13And until Josh Heifel can figure out how to beat Kirby Smart,
02:17the Smart money is on Kirby.
02:19Now, if Tennessee can shut down that Georgia running attack,
02:24Gunnar Stockton hasn't been in enough big games and proven his worth.
02:27I don't think Georgia is very effective offensively if they can't run the ball well.
02:32So I think Tennessee, with the way they have played defense,
02:36if they can hold the score down, and then Joey Aguilar, their quarterback,
02:40and I coached against him when he was in Abbey State,
02:43if he will be accurate on his underneath intermediate throws,
02:47Georgia's going to play too deep.
02:48They're not going to give up that deep ball that made them famous under Josh Heifel.
02:53If they don't give up the deep ball, he has got to be accurate on the intermediate throws.
02:57They've got to slow down the run.
02:59And until they beat Kirby Smart, I can't go with Tennessee.
03:05Right up, George.
03:06We'll be rocking 3.30 p.m. on Saturday.
03:08The coach says, straight up, George is going to handle their business in Rocky Top.
03:12Let's go down to South Beach and South Florida.
03:14South Florida versus Miami, coach.
03:16Understand this, and I love the coaching perspective.
03:18That's what is so unique about getting to talk to you.
03:21It's not so much sometimes maybe you've got to get the boys up to play, right?
03:24Like South Florida's playing Miami.
03:25They'll be ready.
03:25But how do you have a ranked opponent week one, ranked opponent, huge upset fight game
03:30versus UF, and now you've got to play Florida?
03:32How do you get the boys up three straight weeks, coach, for this one?
03:36Because like last week, they're playing against guys they played against in high school.
03:41They grew up at South Florida.
03:43Most of their players grew up wanting to get a scholarship in Miami, Florida, or Florida State.
03:48It didn't happen.
03:49They ended up at South Florida.
03:50Now, there's portal transfers, and that's different.
03:52And Byron Brown is probably the best quarterback in the country that you've never heard of.
03:58But Carson Beck is probably the best that you have heard of.
04:01And so I don't think they'll have enough to beat Miami.
04:05USF got beat pretty badly in the second half last year against Miami after playing for a half.
04:10They're a better team this year, but so is Miami.
04:13They're a better team as well.
04:14But still, when it comes down to it, I just have a hard time with 17 and a half.
04:19I think this team plays too well and will stay close.
04:23That is a general conception, but I can't go out on that limb.
04:27Yeah, Miami is going to win, and they can win decisively and not win by over 17 and a half.
04:33But I just think USF has got too much confidence.
04:36Their head coach is doing a great job, and he'll probably move up in this league, in this business, to a higher job pretty soon.
04:43But he's got them playing well, and I think they will be the one team from the G6 that makes the college football playoffs.
04:51It's theirs to lose at this point, Coach.
04:53I am with you there.
04:55Speaking of losing, Notre Dame doesn't have a lot of great teams that are going to finish in the top 25 the rest of the way.
05:02They couldn't get it done against the last game against Miami.
05:06Texas A&M at home here.
05:08What are we thinking Notre Dame does?
05:09I think Notre Dame better pay attention to what they did wrong against Miami.
05:14They didn't give the ball to Jeremiah Love.
05:17They're a running football team.
05:19Jeremiah Love averaged 6.9 a game last year.
05:22Marcus Freeman is a smart coach.
05:25After a Northern Illinois loss last year, he came on the entire way to the championship.
05:29He's going to play great defense, but he has got to run the ball on offense to control that line of scrimmage.
05:35And then Marcel Reed, he's got to contain him, a great dual-threat quarterback.
05:39At Texas A&M, I do think if he'll run the ball at Notre Dame, don't turn the ball over with their defense, they're going to win this one.
05:48But again, I like the numbers and the points with Texas A&M, although under the watchful eye of touchdown Jesus, I've got to go with Notre Dame.
05:57There you go.
05:58Notre Dame fighting to get back to one-and-one, Coach.
06:00We've got some bonus time right now.
06:01And I want to ask you a question because you've been around the block in coaching.
06:05You have your great moments, and you have your moments that, you know what, you might be on the hot seat.
06:08The Florida Gators the past two years coached unbelievably tough schedules.
06:12How do you coach if you're Billy Napier?
06:13You've got a tough schedule coming up and also LSU on deck.
06:16How do you coach knowing that, boy, every game just might be one of those last games that you coached there?
06:21How do you get through that?
06:23Well, first of all, you have to understand, and I think Billy Napier does.
06:26My brother Tommy at Clemson gave him his first job and hired him there.
06:30And I coached against him at Lafayette.
06:33He is a winner, but he has got to somehow, regardless of how he feels, he's got to prove to them that he's got confidence that they can win the football games.
06:41They've got eight teams left in the top 25.
06:44I don't see how he can pull this out, but he's got to convince his players that they're going to win football games.
06:51And that's what a head coach is afraid to do, have confidence, motivate, and inspire those players to play their best.
06:57And they will against LSU.
06:59They will play their best and keep it tight, and I'm going to take the points on that game, but LSU is going to win.
07:06There you go.
07:06Within a touchdown here, coach is saying, watch out for Florida.
07:09Here are the big games today.
07:10Georgia, Tennessee, South Florida, Miami, Florida, LSU, Texas, A&M, and Notre Dame.
07:13That's why we got Coach Terry Bowden.
07:15We need that inside knowledge, and we get it.
07:17There you go.
07:17We get it again tomorrow, college football today.
07:20Thanks for joining us, coach.
07:21We always appreciate your time.
07:23What a week.
07:24What a week.
07:24It's been on the early line in the Sports Grid Network,
07:26and we're just cruising through football season.
07:28I love the month of September because it means football's back,
07:31cooler temperatures in the air in the Northeast,
07:33and it gives way to pumpkin spice and Halloween,
07:37and then we get to Thanksgiving and Christmas.
07:39Then we start to get to the Super Bowl.
07:41Like, oh, no, where did it all go?
07:43Remember these moments, Joe, because they are our favorite moments here.
07:46But you know what other moments we like on the show?
07:47We like to reach out to the people.
07:49Here's our fave to public poll.
07:50If you're not following us on X at Sports Grid,
08:01what the heck are you doing with your life?
08:03We ask questions every single morning for the early line
08:05to reach out to the public and see exactly where they're going.
08:09And the question would be, do we fade or do we back the public?
08:12What is your favorite college football week three matchup?
08:15That's what we ask the public, three choices, Georgia versus Tennessee,
08:19South Florida versus Miami, Texas A&M versus Notre Dame.
08:22For me, I'm fading the public, Joe, because I like the Miami Hurricanes.
08:27They got the least amount of votes, 23.7%.
08:29That's where I went.
08:31Your favorite college football matchup of week number three.
08:34Did you take the easy way out, Joe?
08:35Did you?
08:37Yeah.
08:38Well, you know what, Donnie?
08:39I would have South Florida, Miami,
08:41just because of my location is certainly the most interesting game.
08:44But I do think the Tennessee and Georgia game has more juice
08:48simply because, and we had Coach Bowden on earlier,
08:52the history here between Georgia and Tennessee,
08:55Kirby Smart and Josh Heupel,
08:57like Josh Heupel can't beat Georgia and Kirby Smart.
09:01But if he's ever going to get over that hump,
09:03if we're ever going to,
09:04he's got to do it as a dog here at home against a,
09:09you have the better offense, right?
09:10Your defenses are equal.
09:12There is literally no excuse for Tennessee at home
09:15not to be able to win this game.
09:17I think that's,
09:18that game to me has got a little bit more juice for Tennessee.
09:22How about that?
09:23You're the only 10 IC.
09:25It's a great bar pickup line, by the way,
09:26if you ever haven't used that there out in the streets
09:28in the 20s and 30s in your life
09:30when you're perusing the bar scene.
09:31But that's not me, Joe.
09:33I'm in my late 40s, you know,
09:34happy is the way it is.
09:35You know what else I'm going to be happy with?
09:36Winners tonight on a Friday.
09:39Bye, bye, bye edition.
09:47Aha, Joe.
09:49You picked up a victory last night
09:50with those Green Bay Packers.
09:51Make you look like a genius.
09:52Who is going to make you look like a genius tonight?
09:54Speak to us.
09:56Well, I'm going to go late game here tonight
09:58in college football, Donnie.
10:00Oh, look at that.
10:01Thank you very much.
10:02Yep.
10:02No, I know that guy.
10:04As a matter of fact, I do.
10:05I know that guy.
10:06Yeah, I'm a good looking dude.
10:07Yes, very good.
10:08So I am going to go with the UCLA New Mexico game
10:13here tonight.
10:14And I think this is another one of these
10:16in week three of the college football season.
10:20Yep.
10:20It is buy low and it is sell high.
10:23Now, apparently everybody thinks,
10:25wow, this New Mexico team,
10:26do you see how well they played against Michigan?
10:28And oh, wow, they beat Idaho State
10:30and now a 2-0 team.
10:32And how awful is UCLA?
10:35Oh, my goodness.
10:36Yeah.
10:37Buy low, sell high here.
10:40This is an awful New Mexico team.
10:42Make no mistake about it here.
10:44They got outplayed last week
10:46against FCS Idaho State.
10:48Should have lost that game
10:50and was fortunate enough to get the win.
10:53But UCLA, listen, you lose to Utah,
10:56who's going to win the Big 12.
10:57OK, then you got UNLV,
11:00who is much better than people think.
11:03No, there is no loss in that.
11:05This is a spot for Nico and Foster
11:08and this UCLA team to get right.
11:12And I think, Donnie,
11:13this should have been more than three touchdowns
11:16had they won one of those games
11:17between Utah and UNLV.
11:20The fact that they didn't
11:22were getting a discount
11:23and I'm taking it
11:24because I do think UCLA
11:26takes out some frustration
11:28and runs over New Mexico at home tonight.
