00:00What do you think that incentive is?
00:01You mentioned that 2014 and Tony Petit is trying to push that.
00:04And that's kind of the FCS model.
00:07What do you think the, the, I mean,
00:09obviously there's a monetary component of it,
00:11but are you surprised that people are trying to go that big, that fast?
00:14I am because you, you go to, you double the size of the playoff.
00:19And we're still, I think guys like me,
00:21at least are adjusting to the idea that the regular season doesn't have
00:26diminished value, but has different value. You know,
00:28when you can lose a couple of games and get in Ohio state's great example of
00:32that, obviously two years ago, you lose a couple of regular season games.
00:35You turn around, go on the greatest college football playoff run,
00:38arguably of all time, the way that they were dominant. So, but 24,
00:42the only allure of it is it gets rid of conference championship games.
00:47And I think you got to do that down the road. The,
00:49the bad part is it wants to assign, you know, the big 10 gets four.
00:53And then there's this idea of playoff play in games, which yeah,
00:58gamblers will be in on that,
00:59but I'm not sure that the traditional college football fan will be.
01:03And if you look at the TV ratings,
01:06we've never rep replicated the ranking,
01:09the ratings from the first CFP championship game between Ohio state and
01:12Oregon. I had obviously Indiana, Miami hasn't come out yet,
01:16but it's not going to be higher than that.
01:18I think the highest rated one ever was Ohio state, Alabama,
01:22actually in the semifinal,
01:23which drew an excess or around 30 million people,
01:27which is a massive number for college football.
01:29The ratings are down with that bill. What, why do you think that that is?
01:33Well,
01:33I was looking into this and that's a great point about that Alabama,
01:36Ohio state game, because that was the first rush.
01:40Remember that sugar bowl when we all watched it and it was a highly
01:43entertaining game,
01:44went down to the last snap and it was amazing. And we're like, man,
01:48are they all going to be like this? And unfortunately the last five years before
01:52the 12 team started, I looked this up,
01:54average viewership around 27.6 million or 21.8 million,
01:59which was down about 6 million from the first five years of the playoff.
02:02And then the average margin of victory was 27.6. So those blowouts, I mean,
02:07Georgia, TCU, Michigan, Washington, even these blowouts,
02:12I think we got kind of in that the one year was the COVID year too.
02:15So we're trying to recover from that. Ohio state, Notre Dame had decent ranking
02:20ratings, but I thought they would be better and interested to see what Miami,
02:24Indiana is because we can interpret those. However we want,
02:28but the TV executives care. I mean,
02:31obviously they want this product to be something that people tune into.
02:34It's amazing. As you mentioned, Ohio state, Notre Dame,
02:37those are two of the biggest brands in college football.
02:39And it was the first year of the 12 team.
02:41You would have thought that that would have been a massive number as big a
02:44numbers you were going to get in that window.
02:46That would have been it. And like you said,
02:48it fell short in comparison to some of the other great matchups of years prior.
02:54And some of it is obviously you've got to have a good game.
02:56And that game ended up being good and one possession game down towards the end.
03:00These blowouts, I think ultimately do ruin it and maybe sour the taste for the
03:04dogs.
03:05Yeah.
03:05Really price.
03:06Yeah.
03:07Okay.
03:07Okay.
03:07Okay.
03:08Well,
03:08let's take a moment.
