01:18Who will be in?
01:20Who will be out?
01:22I'm in, they're out
01:24I don't think so
01:26For these 12 designers
01:28Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime
01:38After winning the Peter Alexander Challenge
01:40It's really sunk in how much this competition means to me
01:44and how much it can affect and change your life
01:46so it's really exciting
01:52Ivana's gone home and
01:54for me personally the hardest part is
01:56that I should have perhaps gone
01:58I'm not going to waste the opportunity
02:00because I know how much it would like
02:02I don't know, I don't know how much it would mean to her
02:04if she had another chance
02:06Whenever you see a friend cry
02:08it's very hard
02:10Hopefully she's okay
02:12and I know she's gone for bigger and better things
02:14so it's okay
02:16Well I think the aim of the game is really to
02:18hit the brief on the head
02:20If you don't
02:22you're out
02:24You're out
02:40Well hello designers
02:42Hello Christy
02:44So, are you ready for your next challenge?
02:46Yes!
02:48You will have to be imaginative, innovative
02:50but most importantly
02:52resourceful
02:54Intrigued?
02:56Yes!
02:57Well Henry is waiting for you all downstairs
02:59to take you on a little trip
03:01where all will be revealed
03:03Good luck
03:05and I will see you on the runway
03:07Thank you
03:08See ya
03:09Come on designers, get moving
03:11Haven't got all day
03:13The first thing I thought was
03:15we're finally going outside
03:17Designers, welcome to another glamorous day in fashion
03:21Thank you
03:22Thank you
03:23Are you up for your next challenge?
03:24Yes!
03:25Excellent
03:26I was kind of excited
03:27and at the same time I was like
03:28shit, shit, what are we doing?
03:29Well, let's get into the cars
03:31but before you do
03:33you're going to need to wear these blind folds
03:35when you get in there
03:36No questions asked, let's go
03:39We all piled into the hold-in
03:41then they blindfolded all of us
03:43and I'm just like
03:45seriously
03:46where are they taking us?
03:47You know, you're already in a bit of a panic
03:49and you think
03:50what the hell's going to happen now?
03:52Alright designers, we're off
03:58Alright designers, a familiar voice
04:00Henry
04:01Follow me, keep close
04:03and no peeking, let's go
04:04Hold in tight please
04:06Hold in tight
04:07We were being pulled into this little room
04:10and it smells a bit funky
04:11Can you smell anything?
04:13Yeah
04:14I've got a really sensitive nose
04:15and I was smelling dirt
04:16and fertiliser
04:24Designers, take your blind folds off
04:31I looked around and I just saw
04:33hardware
04:38Oh shit, we're screwed
04:40Not quite what you were expecting
04:42Am I right?
04:43Yeah
04:45Designers, we are here at Mitre 10
04:47Better known for building materials
04:50than designer materials
04:53Closest I've been to Mitre 10
04:54is getting my dad a gift certificate
04:57for Father's Day
04:59Designers, your next challenge
05:00is to create an over-the-top,
05:02no-holds-barred, avant-garde design
05:05made entirely for materials
05:08from this hardware store
05:10I am avant-garde, so I hope I can create an amazing outfit
05:16and to wow the judges
05:18If you get this right, you'll turn heads for all the right reasons
05:23But if you get it wrong, it is certain to be a train wreck
05:27Absolutely no avant-garde experience before ever
05:31Well guys, it's time to go shopping
05:34You will have $85 and 15 minutes to purchase all your materials
05:40Are you ready?
05:41Yes!
05:42Great, let's go!
05:43I was like thinking, I need plastic, I need foam
05:52To your left, to your left
05:53Anybody see any wire?
05:55The items that I was most excited about were
05:59feather dusters
06:01Mining board covers
06:03I later picked up a picnic blanket
06:07Do you have loose washes?
06:09Washes, I know plumbers use them for something
06:12I'm not exactly sure what
06:14But I know what I'm going to use them for
06:16Five minutes to go please
06:19Oh my god!
06:21Does the man not realise I'm on crutches?
06:28Okay designers, this is your friendly mentor
06:31Your time is up
06:33Come straight to the register
06:35That's time up right now
06:36Come to the back
06:38I've got some chicken wire
06:40Some garden matting
06:42Bamboo always pepper baskets
06:44And some pot plant holders
06:46Let's go!
06:47Into the cast please!
06:56I'm feeling hot to trot and ready to work
06:59We've got three hours to conceptualise, design and get started
07:04God what have you got over here?
07:06With this twine I'm actually going to weave like big straps that come up through
07:10What is this?
07:12Damp chorus
07:14Good colour, love it
07:15The materials that I ended up getting were some plastic chicken wire
07:20And I got some spray cans
07:24Not my first time around the block with the chicken wire
07:27What are you doing?
07:28I don't know yet
07:29Chopping up a broom
07:30Yeah
07:31Hello there
07:32Hi there
07:33Hi there
07:35Just a reminder as you're chopping away at your creations
07:39You have three hours today and ten hours tomorrow
07:43So be bold, be brave and be adventurous
07:48Remember there's a big difference between avant garde and ugly
07:53So, good luck
07:55Good hammering
07:56And I cannot wait to see what's going to come out of this room
08:00Hopefully not Frankenstein
08:01Good luck
08:04You know, I have to look up a dictionary to define the word avant garde
08:10Avant garde?
08:11It's just not me
08:12Everyone in fashion knows what avant garde is
08:15Don't make excuses honey
08:17The first thing I did when I got back into the work room
08:19Was pull out all my materials to see what I had bought
08:22If anyone sees any black scissors
08:25You got some plastic matting that my mother used to have on the floor in the hallway
08:29Could have just got hers and saved himself 85 bucks
08:33I'm feeling really reserved about this challenge
08:36I don't think I've chosen the right materials
08:43I'm in the work room and I'm thinking that the washers are like just big sequins
08:49So I'm going to knot them together to create a mesh that I can drape somewhere
08:54What's going on here?
08:56It's going to be very you
08:58I know, I would wear that you little bitch
09:00I think Anthony's got an edge in this challenge because his style fits right into avant garde
09:07So Amber, do you think you're going to be in the top 3 this week?
09:10I think you and me both are going to be in the top 3 this week honey
09:12Anthony is the epitome of avant garde so he is going to kick some serious ass in this challenge
09:23I think that's the only comfortable bit on my garment, the rest, it's cold but I guess it's going to really hurt
09:33If she balances it out well, it's going to be breathtaking and if she doesn't, it's going to be diabolical
09:39Everyone else seems to have a pretty good idea
09:41It's going to be all eyeleted and shemmyed and just crazy
09:45Make a corset out of this
09:47Kind of black dress for underneath it
09:50Hey chicky babe
09:52How are you darling?
09:53I want to get the top done
09:55But I just don't even know if that's a normal dress made out of crazy stuff
09:58I'm a bit worried about Kellyanne
10:01With her going on about avant garde, what is avant garde
10:04I don't know what she's going to come up with
10:06Fourth line, I really have no freaking idea what I'm doing
10:11Thank you so much
10:13No worries
10:15I guess this is a bit hardcore
10:17Ryan's design looks more like a science project
10:21Chicken wipe? I'm not scared of it
10:23I quite relish the opportunity and I have fun with it
10:26Ryan's going to torture his model wrapping her in chicken wire
10:30She's going to scream down the runway
10:37As I started to work with my carpet protector
10:40It was plastic so I had to think of something really structured
10:44So I went for a corset
10:46Yeah, he's setting himself up for a bit of a challenge
10:49How's yours coming?
10:51How's yours coming?
10:53Oh that's brilliant
10:54Yeah
10:55That's going to be great
10:57Mark has taken on the role of design and mentor
11:00Probably like a substitute Henry
11:02You're plaiting?
11:03Well weaving, yeah
11:05There are certain people in the room that are not loving his feedback right now
11:08Do you know what you're going to do with that?
11:10Yes
11:12You open your mouth near me
11:14And you just piss me off
11:16Go away
11:18I think Mark wanders around because he likes to know what his competition is doing
11:24Okay guys, three hours is up for today and we have to go
11:29I was freaking out, I had no idea what I was going to do for the rest of it
11:34I'm feeling a bit stressed
11:36No quite a house
11:37We'll be back
11:39Next on Project Runway Australia
11:42Claudia is just in deep shit
11:44Fucking shit house
11:46We've seen her outfit so she should be stressed
11:48She's irritating the shit out of me
11:50At least it's not a banana split
11:52Shut up you
11:54I just want to chop her crutches in half
11:58I love the fact that this challenge is avant-garde
12:00I was so excited
12:02This is probably not an issue for Amber
12:04But whether mine's going to be avant-garde enough
12:07Like it's got to be really edgy
12:10I do feel a lot of pressure today
12:12Just to try and get something remotely to be avant-garde
12:17What yours is looking like
12:19It's coming along really well
12:21It's only one part of it though
12:23She's still 98% naked
12:24To our next challenge
12:37Yay!
12:43Woohoo!
12:45Let's go!
12:47I still have heaps of work to do today
12:49I've got 10 hours so I'm trying not to freak out too much
12:54I think Anthony is heading on the right path
12:57Fantastic work
12:59He's made the shoulder piece and he's walking around with it
13:04It so looks like something he would wear
13:06So that's quite intense
13:08I'm not struggling with avant-garde
13:10I've got the creativity to do it
13:12I just chose the wrong materials
13:14Fabrics warped
13:16Fucking shit house
13:18I was actually quite worried about Claudia's
13:21I'm following the grain of this fabric now
13:22And it's slightly off
13:24So I'm hoping that's going to make a difference
13:26Really worried
13:28Hello, hello, hello everyone
13:30Hello everyone
13:32I bear gifts in the form of models
13:35Half an hour to work with them
13:36Are you ready?
13:38Come in, the fashionistas of life
13:40Give an applause ladies and gentlemen
13:42Look at your face
13:44I'm thinking not yet, please
13:47I'm not ready for model fittings yet
13:48Yeah
13:50I'm looking around the room and seeing so many things that look more like kind of costumes for Starlight Express or Mad Max
13:57So at least they're not putting you in a garbage bag, honey
14:00Which some other people are
14:04Sylvana came in, tried my outfit on
14:07The corset what I've done the day before fit perfectly
14:10Does that feel comfortable?
14:11It does
14:13Awesome
14:15Mine will be very different to everyone else's
14:17So hopefully that will work in my favour
14:19Well Claudia's left Shirlene standing there again with nothing to try on
14:26Admittedly I wasn't ready for my models fitting
14:32But I had no choice
14:34Whilst my garment is well constructed and I've put a lot of work in it
14:38It does look a little conservative compared to the others
14:43To each turn around that way
14:45I think that will go well
14:48Can I go back to sewing?
14:50Basically the first thing we've got is kind of like a corsety chess piece kind of thing
14:54That'll go on
14:56I'm shocked Ryan hasn't been in the bottom three yet
14:58I would say that that guy should go and play lotto
15:02Because he's one lucky dude
15:04Everybody out
15:06Let's go boys and girls
15:07Thank you very much
15:12Bye
15:14I've just been dying to get in here and see what you're up to
15:17So Ryan are you ready for me?
15:18I certainly am
15:19Let me come and see what you're up to
15:21Hello Henry
15:22How are you doing my friend? Tell me what you're doing here
15:24I'm doing a little bit of a kind of a princess trapped in a tower idea
15:29Obviously use the plastic and the chicken wire that I found
15:33And I'm going to contrast the metal off the black
15:35There will be a back piece as well
15:38Basically a canvas behind the head
15:40What I'm thinking of is basically a snake cobra look
15:44What makes this avant-garde not ugly?
15:47I do believe that the aesthetic balance of it is going to be very sound
15:51Henry was concerned that I might be going too over the top in terms of the silhouette that I was trying to achieve
15:59He reckons I should keep it simple, keep it elegant
16:01Fine line between princess
16:04Yeah
16:05And pantomime
16:06That's fair enough
16:07I can live with that
16:08Good on you
16:09Henry told Ryan to make sure his design is avant-garde not ugly
16:13I'm thinking it's bordering closer to the ugly
16:16Hey darling how are you Lauren?
16:18Hi Henry
16:20Every critique so far I've had to change half my designs
16:23So fingers crossed this time I don't have to do too much
16:28I just wanted to really create with a silhouette
16:30So I've got aluminium fly screen as well
16:32Right, right
16:34The ultimate look is looking very see-through
16:36Yes
16:37It's going to have a skirt underneath it
16:38Right
16:39Just a basic skirt for modesty's sake and also some cups
16:43Well it's certainly avant-garde
16:45It's certainly out there
16:47What I'm concerned about is the ultimate look
16:51Make sure you don't over kill it
16:53With too much wire, too much going on
16:57Less is more
16:59So you're going to have to know when to stop
17:02But you have to keep going right now
17:03So I'm going to let it to you
17:04Thank you
17:05Okay, thank you
17:09Hi Kellyanne, where are you?
17:11Hi Henry, how are you going?
17:12Good darling, how are you?
17:14Tell me what you've used and what you're trying to create here
17:16I've gone with some cane baskets
17:19Many, many thousands of metres of jute
17:22And some pop hangers
17:24I have no idea what's happening
17:26I need some zen in my life
17:28So I've kind of gone with that juxtaposition of
17:30Zen garden, warrior style
17:33If you could just tell me what avant-garde was again, I'll be happy
17:37You tell me what avant-garde is
17:39It's unique, it's experimental, it's futuristic
17:41At the same time, it has to be fashion, avant-garde, but not ugly
17:45And as a designer, that's your call
17:48You don't go through three years at the White House without knowing what avant-garde is
17:51It's just bullshit
17:53Anthony, what's going on here?
17:55I've used carpet protector
17:56And obviously this is a piece as well, which sits over the model's shoulders
18:02Obviously
18:04She's going down there naked, what's happening with her?
18:06Obviously it's sheer and that's how I want it to be sexy
18:08But here I'll be covering it up
18:11Okay, you're certainly on the avant-garde track
18:14I mean your use of material is different
18:16You're pushing the envelope
18:18You're right out there, this should be right up your alley
18:20Definitely
18:22I still emphasise one thing, it's still got to be beautiful
18:24Yep
18:25There's a fine line between avant-garde gorgeous and trainwreck
18:29Okay
18:30Don't take them on the trainwreck
18:32There you go, good luck, that's really great, good luck to you
18:34Thank you
18:36Henry's saying I'd definitely push the envelope
18:38But he said it needs to be beautiful
18:40So I'm a bit concerned that he thinks it's ugly
18:43Claudia
18:44Hi Henry
18:45How are you doing?
18:46Tell me a little bit about what you're creating here
18:47Okay, what I've got here is a wadded picnic blanket
18:51What I'm doing is I'm going for a short mini but a bustle sort of effect at the back
18:57And I'm going to cover some of my corset with feathers to give it a bit more texture
19:06This room is hot with competition, so I'll say that to you
19:10Yep
19:12What's bold and brave about this?
19:13Maybe that's one criteria I didn't feel
19:19Henry confirmed what I already kind of knew that my garment wasn't going to look avant-garde enough
19:26Make sure that when you leave this mannequin it speaks to you of bravery, experiment, creativity
19:33You've got to think outside the box, you've got to, and you can do it, you can do it
19:39Good luck to you
19:40Thanks Henry
19:41Thank you, I hope that's given you some help
19:42Yep, it has, thanks
19:44Claudia's going to have to work her ass off in this final hours to make it avant-garde
19:48You have three and a half hours left to get this done, good luck and we'll see you later
19:55Bye
19:57My fabric's been chosen, it's done and dusted
20:00I just have to try and make it look reasonably acceptable so that I can get through to my next challenge
20:05I didn't get any major feedback from Henry about to change it or do this or that
20:11What did you say?
20:12Keep it simple, keep it clean
20:14Lauren started off so good but I'm a bit concerned that it's going to be a bit weird
20:20I don't know if it's because she's next to Ryan and all his bad taste is rubbing off
20:24Holy crap!
20:25His is just becoming a shocker
20:29It's pretty scary
20:31Oh here he is
20:33Oh my god
20:35Ooh la la
20:37Where is my little willy?
20:39Oh my god
20:41You like you, bye
20:43You like you
20:45I think I was inhaling too much glue
20:48And then I started calling other designs certain names
20:53Mark, yours looks like a turtle stuck in a fishing net
20:58Get your own material honey, I said it first
21:01It wasn't funny the first time
21:03Someone put a bag over it
21:05Yopi and Michael, there's something going on between them
21:08They're going at it head to head and it's quite hysterical
21:11But at least it's not a banana split
21:14Shut up you
21:16It is a banana split actually
21:18Do you want some Toblerone?
21:20No thank you
21:21With your Halloween dress
21:22Oh
21:24It's getting nasty
21:26I don't know why but Yopi's pushing all my buttons
21:29She's irritating the shit out of me
21:31I just want to chop her crutches in her
21:33Kelly Ann?
21:35Yeah?
21:37What are you trying to do?
21:39I didn't want to say it Willy, I was just being
21:41Crap, that didn't even occur to me
21:43It's the biggest hole ever
21:45I'm called Kelly Ann's a basket case costume
21:48But we're just having a laugh
21:52Where's Claudia gone?
21:55She's been missing in action for like the last two hours
21:59Well there's obviously a bit more work in it than we think if she spends all day in the sewing room
22:05The material that she got with to start with were just fabric
22:08Yeah
22:10I think there was a bit of a personality clash with Claudia and some of the other designers
22:14They just didn't get along
22:16She doesn't talk to anybody about it either
22:18She just gets into her head what she's doing and off she goes
22:21Is she just sewing?
22:23Yeah
22:25And what was she doing?
22:27Claudia what are you doing sweetie?
22:29I'm just finishing up my corset and skirt and then I'm going to put some stuff on top of it
22:35And I've got to eyelid it so
22:37I think the other designers were sitting there going
22:40Cool it's going
22:42Yuffie you've got half an hour
22:44I know
22:46Bloody hurry up
22:48That's fabulous
22:49Two thumbs up
22:50Thank you very much
22:52It's coming to the end of the day and
22:55Look not loving Ryan's
22:58Lauren has completely pulled out this amazing outfit
23:03She's done an about face
23:05So sick
23:07Claudia is just in deep shit
23:09It's a cute fabric though I like that fabric
23:11Yeah I liked it too when I got it
23:13You happy with that?
23:15Erm
23:16Not really
23:18I'm just going to cross my fingers
23:20I really hope that I stay in the competition
23:23Even if it's by the skin of my teeth
23:26Well designers you know what this means
23:29Time is up please
23:31Everybody for Moose from the Boose
23:33Right away
23:35You feel satisfied?
23:37Well done guys
23:39Next on Project Runway Australia
23:42It still looks like garbage
23:44Half an hour to go where's Claudia?
23:45I'm not ready to go
23:47I'm just freaking out
23:49You should just put her freaking head down she'll be fine
23:51Welcome
23:58Every time Runway comes by
24:01It doesn't get any easier
24:03It's a big day
24:05You never know what the judges are looking for
24:09Who's your money on then?
24:11I think it would be a safe bet to say that
24:14Claudia will be in bottom three
24:16Top three?
24:18I would have to put myself in there
24:20Lauren and Anthony
24:25Who do you reckon is going to be in trouble today?
24:27Kelly-Ann
24:29I don't think she's going to be able to pull off her explanation about the Japanese garden
24:35Potentially Kelly-Ann or potentially Ryan
24:39Ryan, I don't see it as avant-garde as I do costume
24:42It's runway day today and I am totally pumped
24:43My outfit is hot, I am looking fabulous, it's going to be a great day
24:45It's runway day today and I am totally pumped
24:48My outfit is hot, I am looking fabulous, it's going to be a great day
24:50You're looking for a new outfit today
24:51You're looking for a new outfit
24:52You're looking for a new outfit
24:53It's going to be a new outfit
24:54It's going to be a great day.
25:22It's runway day.
25:23I'm very excited and hopefully I can be in top three this week.
25:31I've finished the plastic skirt,
25:33but I'm a bit worried about my design being a bit too see-through.
25:40Ryan's is looking a little bit Count Dracula meets Chicken Run.
25:46The golden rule now after my little adventure with the back there
25:49is just tone it down, keep it simple, keep it clean.
25:51I've abandoned the chicken wire plate at the back
25:54so as to make sure that the overall look was aesthetically pleasing.
25:59Hello designers.
26:04How are we this morning?
26:06I'm going to remind you,
26:07you're going to need to access the Gregory Landner accessories
26:10and the Andrea Yohan shoes.
26:12Think about the look.
26:13This is avant-garde.
26:14You've got to push it forward.
26:16Guys, you have two more hours left in that time.
26:19You're going to need to send your models to the Max Factor makeup area
26:22and also the Trissame hair salon.
26:24Are you guys ready for your models?
26:26Yes!
26:27That's worth it!
26:28Good luck ladies.
26:29We have an outfit to wear.
26:30Did you put your nipple covers on?
26:32Yes.
26:33I'm just going to take off everything.
26:35Gosh, it's fitting pretty good.
26:37My models come in and the garment fits really well
26:40and it looks really cool.
26:41What do you think?
26:42I think it's really cool.
26:43Silvana's tried on her outfit.
26:45It feels comfortable.
26:46I'm pretty happy with the overall look.
26:48She was a bit concerned that her nipples would be showing
26:51but I said, honey, my outfit's hot
26:53so no one's going to be looking at your nipples.
26:56I don't know if the judges will get it
26:58but it's just completely him.
27:00Right away, hair and makeup done.
27:02So, let's go.
27:06I need some really crazy hair.
27:07Okay.
27:12Hot, no, love it.
27:15Thank you so much.
27:16Don't want to end up looking like costume.
27:25Then you can touch my eye out there.
27:32This is too much?
27:33Yeah.
27:37I'm just freaking out beyond comparison.
27:40No, no, no.
27:41I'm just like going, fuck,
27:43I'm running around the crazy like.
27:45And I cannot get these freaking eyelets in.
27:49It's nothing coming out.
27:50Oh, because you hadn't opened it.
27:52And I'm going psychotic.
27:54Seriously, after two weeks of me helping everyone else.
28:00Kellyanne was having a meltdown because no one was helping her.
28:03She always freaks out.
28:04If she just put her freaking head down and just sewed, she'll be fine.
28:08You're done.
28:09You're done.
28:10No drama.
28:11No drama here.
28:12No drama.
28:13No drama.
28:14Thanks, darling.
28:15Scratching you.
28:16I haven't noticed.
28:17Get rid of the plastic thing.
28:18I don't know.
28:19It's up to you.
28:21I love the stockings down around the legs.
28:23Oi.
28:24I decided to ditch the seat through his skirt.
28:27Henry said less is more, so less is more.
28:32I've got my wind in my hair.
28:36Michael's hair, like, he's obsessed by it.
28:38We call him Tresame.
28:39I'm just looking to the left, looking to the right.
28:41Just a flick.
28:42Everybody just wants to shave it off while he's sleeping.
28:45What was the break?
28:46Um, create an avant-garde look from materials from out of town.
28:52What do you describe it?
28:53Like a picnic blanket and lining book covers?
28:55Not a fan of that one.
28:58Is this boring?
28:59Yeah.
29:00But I think Lauren's is looking really beautiful.
29:03Sarah and I were trying to sort of pinpoint what's hot, what's not.
29:07Kelly-Ann's is a bit other than that.
29:11Claudia, she's my bet to go.
29:13Really?
29:14Claudia's design is definitely not hot.
29:18It's amazing what you can do with a picnic blanket.
29:20I know.
29:24Oh, how's it going?
29:25Great.
29:26Good.
29:27Fuck off the fuck.
29:29Michael, I'm too stressed doing my own stuff to feel the breeze of your swishing hair running
29:34past me every five seconds.
29:38Okay.
29:39Yeah.
29:40Looking around the room, Ryan's design.
29:43What was that about the princess?
29:45It still looks like garbage.
29:48Yopi's is still a little Halloween, I have to say.
29:52Half an hour to go.
29:53Where's Claudia?
29:54Claudia's in the sewing room.
29:55She's showing like the clappers.
29:56She's trying to make it avant-garde now.
29:59Claudia's a bit stressed.
30:00We've seen her outfit, so she should be stressed.
30:03Claudia sewed on some foam to her skirt right at the last minute.
30:06I do think it actually worked, but it's still verging on the side of ugly as opposed to avant-garde.
30:12It looks a little bit zen garden meets hooker at the back.
30:16Guys, that is time.
30:17Runway time.
30:18Come on, let's go, let's go.
30:20Nearly there.
30:21Good.
30:22Our time's over and I'm thinking, I don't want to go home and I sure as hell don't want to go home.
30:27A loser.
30:28Never make a garment, I have a picnic blanket.
30:35Designers, your time is up.
30:37Tools down.
30:38Are you ready for the runway?
30:40Yes!
30:41Let's go!
30:45Now we're going to hit the runway.
30:48Next, on Project Runway Australia.
30:50It should be on a straight corner, not on a runway.
30:53There's a Highland fling on acid.
30:55I don't think it's brave or bold, so...
30:58Ugh.
30:59Nope.
31:00Rough.
31:04Hello, designers.
31:05Hello, Misty.
31:07Welcome to the runway.
31:10As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, the next day you're out.
31:16This week, your creativity and imagination were put to the ultimate test
31:20when you were asked to create an over-the-top avant-garde design.
31:24But, we didn't want to make things too easy for you.
31:29So, your design had to be made entirely from materials from a hardware store.
31:36For this challenge, the rules were simple.
31:39Be brave.
31:40Be bold.
31:41And be fashion-forward.
31:42But, as Henry warned you, get this wrong and it could be a train wreck coming down the runway.
31:50So, let's hope that today, your designs turn heads for all the right reasons.
31:57Now, let's meet the judges.
31:59First up, we have leading Australian designer, Jason Brunston.
32:03Hi, designers.
32:04Hi, Jason.
32:05Next, we have fashion buyer extraordinaire, Sarah Gale.
32:08Hi, everyone.
32:09Hi, Sarah.
32:11And our guest judge this week, editor of Madison Magazine, Paula Joy.
32:15Hi, designers.
32:16Hi, Paula.
32:17They will decide if you have what it takes to make the cut.
32:22We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
32:26The designer with the highest score will be the winner.
32:29And one of you will be out.
32:33Let the show begin.
32:34When I saw my design on the runway, I thought, my gosh, that looks good.
32:45I think my design is borderline avant-garde costume.
32:53This outfit, I'm very proud of it.
32:55I love it.
32:59It was all elements of what I would normally love to do, using odd textures and using something
33:03outside the norm.
33:09Seeing my outfit on the runway, I was a little unsure.
33:15It may come across as if I haven't really put much work into the undergarment.
33:25When I saw my design going down the runway, I was quite pleased.
33:28In terms of what I had tried to achieve,
33:30I've actually used plastic and metal to create something that actually looks really wearable.
33:42My model walked out on the catwalk.
33:44I really loved it.
33:45It looked great on her.
33:46It was sexy, a little bit sassy.
33:48It's a younger, cheeky sort of avant-garde.
33:57My design is the epitome of avant-garde.
34:00It is outrageous and over the top, but yet still classic and elegant.
34:06I definitely think it represents avant-garde.
34:16It's gorgeous. It does stand out from the others.
34:21I really hope the judges can see all of the work that actually went into it.
34:25Seeing my design on the runway was a relief.
34:26I think I've made fly screen and washers work.
34:28I'd say the silhouette of my design has really made it stand out on the runway.
34:44Nobody's done anything like that.
34:45When I saw my design, I was really, really happy with it.
34:52My material really glistened in the light.
34:55I've put everything into it.
34:57I hope they can see where I was coming from.
35:05When I saw my design on the runway, I was super excited.
35:08Sarah looks incredible in it.
35:13It's really beautiful.
35:19With the following designers, please step forward.
35:26Anthony.
35:29Michael.
35:32Lauren.
35:35Claudia.
35:38Ryan.
35:42Kelly-Ann.
35:46If I have not called your name,
35:49congratulations.
35:51Your scores were high enough to move you to the next round.
35:56You can leave the runway.
35:57The six of you remaining have the highest and the lowest scores.
36:11One of you will be named the winner.
36:14And one of you will be out.
36:20Let's bring out your models.
36:21Let's start with Ryan.
36:39Jason, what are your thoughts?
36:41Ryan, I just find it just a little bit lazy.
36:43Okay.
36:44It's black plastic.
36:46You needed to push it a little bit further in terms of it being avant-garde.
36:50As I've acknowledged it, it might be a little bit hard to see.
36:53Around the waist here, it's quite gathered.
36:56And behind here, we kind of have flounces that stick up and kind of mirror the softness.
37:00What you've just described, I'm intrigued about.
37:03Next time, don't cover something up.
37:04Well, the brief was be bold, be brave, be fashion-forward.
37:08Paula, do you think that he's done this?
37:10You've been brave, taking chicken wire and thinking,
37:13I'm going to, you know, mould it and paint it gold and turn it into a dress.
37:17I don't think it's brave or bold.
37:20Clever, but not brave or bold.
37:23Lauren, what are your thoughts, Paula?
37:26You took what is, you know, hard fabrics.
37:29You made it feminine and more to the point is you made it fashion.
37:32What you've done is shown that avant-garde doesn't mean unwearable.
37:37So when you went into the hardware store, did you already have the vision before you went in?
37:41I was just running around crazy because I don't usually go into hardware stores.
37:47I would wear that in a magazine shoot. I would love to wear it in an editorial.
37:51I'll fight you for it.
37:53How about I do it in Madison?
37:55Deal.
37:58Sarah, were you impressed on Michael's take of avant-garde?
38:03Michael, I think your silhouette is a little predictable.
38:06It's almost pod-like, like you've got her coming out of the flower or something like that.
38:13Anthony enlightened me to the fact that it first looked like a banana.
38:18A peeled banana?
38:20Yes.
38:21You've got it on guard. This was your chance to push it and I don't think you did.
38:25Sarah, did Anthony's design hit the mark?
38:29Anthony, I love the use of this transparent fabric, if that's what I call it. What exactly is it?
38:35It's a really tacky carpet protector and I want to wear this so I'm like, don't you be taking that with you.
38:42I can see you with that on actually.
38:44I really want it.
38:46It's like Mad Max meets Alice in Wonderland.
38:49It's visually exciting.
38:51Tough fabric to work with. I've seen that on a thousand hallways, in a thousand houses across Australia.
38:56And it's meant for, you know, it's meant for walking on.
38:59The only thing I would say is that, you know, don't confuse avant-garde with being costume and unwearing.
39:05I know, yes.
39:07Kellyanne.
39:09Jason, what do you think?
39:10I think it's quite fantastic.
39:12I think it's amazing how you've put it all together.
39:18I was terrified.
39:20Were you?
39:21So, avant-garde to me is like daring to not wear, you know, open-toed sandals in summer.
39:26It really scared me so.
39:29Since you've taken yourself out of a comfort zone, so I really applaud you for that.
39:34That is incredible that you did that in 13 hours.
39:39From the back, it looks like it should be on a, possibly a street corner, not on a runway.
39:47Jason, how did you like Claudia's design?
39:50I didn't.
39:51Tell me, Claudia, what you think is avant-garde about flogging an old Vivienne Westwood design that's been hanging around for the last 20 years?
40:03For me, avant-garde is taking fashion to that next step. And for me, this hasn't done it.
40:09I like it for what it is, but it's not avant-garde. I get that.
40:11I was just overwhelmed by all the tartans. So I was trying to...
40:16So were we.
40:18You look and sound uncomfortable with what you've made.
40:21I think that your ironing board cover ruffle underneath the dress is the best part of the dress, and was extremely clever.
40:27We've heard what you've had to say. We're now going to have a chat, and then I'll call you back.
40:38You can leave the runway.
40:39Well, wow, guys. I mean, this was a really, really difficult one to judge.
40:57It was hard. It was very hard.
40:58Hard challenge.
40:59Yeah.
41:00Absolutely. So let's talk about the ones that we liked.
41:02There were a lot of ones that I liked.
41:03Yeah.
41:04For me, look, I really loved Lauren's.
41:07You know, it was nuts and bolts, essentially, that she turned into a dress that I would want to wear.
41:12Yeah.
41:13And a dress that I think that you could sell.
41:15I couldn't stop looking at it, just up there.
41:17I was like, wow, that's really beautiful.
41:19Such intricate detail, and so finely executed.
41:23And as you say, fashion forward as well.
41:25Mm.
41:26I think she nailed the brief.
41:29Another one I thought was really outstanding, and I think we all agree, was Anthony's.
41:32It's fantastic.
41:33It was really fantastic.
41:34It was really fantastic.
41:35It was ingenious.
41:36The fact that you took a carpet runner, people, a carpet runner, and turned it into a dress,
41:46is pretty extraordinary.
41:48My one thing is that it was theatre.
41:51It was completely see-through.
41:52Yeah, totally.
41:53He took a real risk, but for me it worked.
41:57Kellyanne was good.
41:59Kellyanne's was great.
42:00Wow.
42:01Yeah, it was.
42:02From last week to-
42:03Absolutely, from last week.
42:04Complete turnaround.
42:05This was so much more exciting.
42:06She went very natural.
42:07Organic.
42:08Almost tribal.
42:09Yeah, organic.
42:10Yeah.
42:11I think it was made safe before, but she showed us something else this week.
42:16Pretty obvious that they were all quite amazing, but the ones that we weren't as impressed
42:21with.
42:22I thought Ryan played it a bit too safe for me.
42:24He chose the very safe silhouette.
42:27Yeah.
42:28For me it didn't quite hit that brief.
42:30It was just so predictable.
42:33Yeah.
42:34I mean, thank God somebody used black plastic though.
42:36We would have been disappointed if they hadn't.
42:38Just to be not original.
42:39He didn't push the boundaries.
42:40No.
42:41No.
42:42No, not at all.
42:43Michael didn't push the boundaries at all.
42:45No, he didn't.
42:46And he, I'm sorry.
42:47When you say avant-garde to him, he just goes, glamour.
42:51I think when you say, you enter it to him, he goes, glamour.
42:54Glamour.
42:55He's the glamour queen.
42:56Yeah.
42:57Is she a piece of corn or is she a palm tree, whatever, blah, blah, blah.
42:59Is she a banana?
43:00When you're making a pretty dress, I don't think he wants to be a...
43:02No fruit references.
43:03Yeah, exactly.
43:07Claudia's design.
43:08Ooh.
43:09Ooh.
43:10Nope.
43:11Rough.
43:12It was a picnic blanket gone bad.
43:15Yeah.
43:16Yeah.
43:17It was a Highland fling on acid.
43:18Yeah.
43:19It just, too much.
43:20She sounded so miserable when she was talking about it.
43:23Miserable.
43:24Depressed about it.
43:25I wanted to cry for her.
43:26It's not you.
43:27It's not innovative.
43:28It's certainly not avant-garde.
43:29No.
43:32Okay, so have we decided?
43:34Yes.
43:35Yep.
43:36Happy with the decision?
43:37Happy.
43:38Yeah.
43:39Happy.
43:40Well, let's bring them back then.
43:41Mm-hmm.
43:42One of you will be named the winner.
43:49And one of you will be out.
43:57The six of you have recorded the highest and the lowest scores.
44:01One of you will be named the winner.
44:02And one of you will be out.
44:03Anthony.
44:04You're in.
44:05You can leave the runway.
44:06And one of you will be out.
44:09Anthony.
44:10Anthony.
44:11You're in.
44:12You can leave the runway.
44:13Anthony.
44:14Anthony.
44:15You're in.
44:16You can leave the runway.
44:19And now for the winner of this challenge.
44:30Congratulations to...
44:32Lauren.
44:35You are the winner of this challenge
44:37Your design was clever
44:39Creative and we loved it
44:42Well done. Thank you. You can leave the runway. Thanks
44:50I'm really happy to have won the avant-garde challenge
44:56I wasn't expecting it at all and was a bit shocked. I think I just had this cheesy grin on my face
45:02I'd say everyone's got to watch out for me
45:05I
45:07Kellyanne
45:11You're in you can leave the runway. Thank you
45:23Michael
45:26You're in thank you can leave the runway
45:28I'm
45:39Claudia
45:43Ryan
45:45One of you will be out
45:47Ryan
45:49Elements of your design were clever and well executed
45:53But overall your look was just too safe
45:57Your look was just too safe
45:59You failed to push the boundaries and as a result your design was neither bold nor brave
46:09Claudia
46:10While your ability to construct an outfit is certainly impressive
46:14Your design was not avant-garde
46:18The end result was unoriginal and definitely not fashion-forward
