18:45They played patrick hasn't played a lot this preseason got things off early with a throw to

19:23I thought it was great to see pacheco pacheco was really running the ball hard same with kareem hunt that's going to be a
19:29A tandem all season long um that I think is going to be very valuable for patrick mahomes in this offense
19:35And a perfect world that the third guy would be brashard smith
19:38We saw make some plays in the first half give them some explosiveness from the running back position
19:44The bears will start out with the football to begin the third quarter. Well, and none of that's possible
19:49Without that offensive line. We know about the right side, right?
19:53We know we know what's going on there and the big question was how's josh
19:55Simmons going to hold up how's kingsley suwa matai you're going to hold up at left guard and I thought the left side played great tonight

21:12Well, we talked to him this week and we said how you know what were your expectations coming in?
21:16What do you want to what kind of impact do you want to have? How do you want to be involved? And he said

21:23Impact I can make whether that's special teams whether it be on defense
21:27I just want to come in with a high motor and contribute as best I can that time

21:36Hope the special teams coach said he's an animal on special teams so having an impact in multiple phases already as a rookie

24:20Resigning with the bears if you're not familiar with this story came from a really small school
24:24The fact that he's playing in the national football league is incredible went to a little school called shepherd and he got

24:34She's able to make the stop after gain a few if you haven't seen the press conference. It's it's worth your time
24:40100% it's worth your time just the human story behind the whole thing. He uh, you know
24:45As you said, he went to a small school shepherd, right? It's from a small town in West, Virginia

24:52Was invited to the combine combine somehow got invited to the combine made an impression wasn't drafted the bears sign him as a
24:59As an undrafted free agent ended up starting four games as a rookie as an undrafted rookie
25:05Uh went two and two in those four games and has established himself as the backup here behind caleb
25:10Williams and they signed him to a two-year 10 million dollar extension
25:14Uh, but you need to go watch the press conference from this week. I'm telling you to find it
25:19Um, just the emotion that he showed
25:21Um, the appreciation that he showed this the and what he's going to be able to do for his family and his community
25:27It's everything we love about football. Go watch it. Check it out. He's a very impressive young man

28:27But as you already mentioned are the big signing in the offseason giving him a two-year 20 million dollar deal
28:33Come in and try and
28:37Be an anchor for that secondary
28:39But yes, he does need to get in shape because he has you know
28:41He missed a lot of camp coming back from the knee injury and
28:45He has practice for over a week now, but need to get in plain shape. They're gonna keep it on the ground
28:53Royce freeman just signed this week
28:55He's not even on the flip card freeman gets to carry in the final week of the preseason
29:00So here's some of the key offseason moves, Trent
29:03Well, yeah, we just talked about christian fulton and what he's been able to do bringing jalen more in
29:08To be that guy. Maybe maybe he's gonna be the left tackle, but you end up drafting simmons
29:12So now you got more that can flip both sides you get extensions done with carloftus smith and bolton
29:19We talked to
29:20Brett beach about that earlier in the game back in the second quarter
29:24Just how vital it is the number one have a have a really good draft class which they've done
29:29Um, but then you've got to keep your guys
29:32Badgett and throw is on time alexander can't hold on to it at the 20 yard line
29:38It was a good throw
29:41So it's one thing trent to
29:43To watch the replay here to draft guys that are good players
29:47It's a whole other thing to develop them and then be able to resign that because you've managed to cap properly to have that homegrown talent
29:53They've been very effective here at doing that repeatedly year after year
29:57Well, and it's always it always they always find guys later in the draft mid to late in the draft
30:02And then and then you're able to if you're able to re-sign them or sign them early like they did with carloftus
30:07They didn't you know, they got george done before they had to get him done. And so
30:12Blitz is coming magic gets the throw out there
30:15Alexander has enough for a bears first down and obviously it's a good thing for george, right?
30:20Because he gets that security as a player. That's what you want. And you know george has been very uh
30:25When you when you look at him as a player, he's been very good and very consistent so reward him early
30:30He gets the benefit of getting that security
30:33With the contract extension same thing with nick bolton. Yeah, right. That's the anchor in the middle
30:38A lot of compliments coming his way from leo chanel another fourth-year player. That's going to be in line for a contract
30:44Trent mcduffie. I mean there's still some guys that need to get done. So it's getting
30:50Maintaining the cap finding room in the cap and and those anchors of your defense being able to keep them
30:56Badgeant rolling to his right and that one will be incomplete
31:01For more on george carloftus. Let's check in with matt mcmullin. Yeah guys just listening to your conversation
31:07It's also about those young players getting better every single year, and that's what george carloftus has done
31:11I mean early in his career. He was a very good player
31:14But it seems like every single season since his rookie year. He's improved
31:17Uh finished last season as hot as any defensive end in the league and really throughout otas and training camp. He was fantastic
31:24I'm expecting a big year from george this season
31:28That's a great point matt and and the thing about george is you know
31:31You look at that early the rookie year and early on he was very raw
31:35I mean he had he had a ton of effort and a ton of talent, but he's refined it
31:39As you mentioned late last season and into the playoffs, uh, was a big factor
31:44And look the economics of it all factors in it's great as you said he gets the security
31:48But if they wait he's gonna cost more money, right?
31:51Every time you wait to sign a guy the price tag goes up
31:55Well, they really got to be really smart to go early. Yeah, and they did that with creed humphrey
31:59Uh, but trey they had to wait on right you can't do everybody early, you know, so
32:04Um, you know, so getting george done the way they did obviously it gives it gives the player gives george some security
