00:14It's nice that it cut past the boss fight this time as if it heard the fan feedback from critics about last issue.

00:21It goes straight to the interesting part where Maria can see again

00:25and she's showing a ton of positivity about everything she can see.

00:28It's nice that there's nobody around her other than Shadow.

00:34So she gets to have all the focus on her.

00:37She gets to have all the dialogue.

00:39So there isn't any exposition but keeping her from having character moments with him.

00:45He says now her eyesight is back.

00:48Like she didn't make that obvious a long time ago.

00:52What a stupid line.

00:53She realizes he's hurt and I guess he lies to her on a purpose about why so she won't be worried.

01:00Why have him reiterate what we clearly already know?

01:04I think this is an anime cliche.

01:07She shows concern for him and he runs off.

01:10It shows an erupting volcano and some more incomprehensible art as usual

01:16that keeps reminding me how trash it is that there's no color in this manga.

01:21Because it's constantly making it hard to tell what's going on.

01:25I don't know why they would be on a deadline so that they have to not color anything.

01:32Because this comic didn't even need to exist.

01:35And he's minded he has to fight a monster to escape this place like that wasn't a given.

01:41And I can't take it seriously that Shadow doesn't point out no duh.

01:46Except in character.

01:47Shadow has to start another fight and the comic does a good job of creating a scary tone

01:53with the way the text bubble is so overly big and black attracting your attention to it.

01:58It's so lazy having an ability called Doom Spear.

02:02Why can't it just throw a Chaos Spear and achieve the same thing?

02:07Let's have a bigger Chaos Spear.

02:10That's creative.

02:11I'm guessing some magical god like Feist made the masters of each domain

02:19the masters of each domain just for kinks.

02:23Which could only be so he could enjoy seeing Shadow fight them

02:26because it's so pointless otherwise.

02:29Mephlas turns invisible and tries to attack him with a blade from the ground

02:33as he's got new powers as the plot demands.

02:36Because it's a magical dimension he's in.

02:38Shadow says he's stuck and after some incomprehensible sequential art

02:43nothing worth talking about happens

02:46until Bogeye explains that Mephlas blocked Shadow's speed.

02:50Another convenient new power.

02:53And this one's incredibly overpowered.

02:56How would Shadow be able to survive after this?

03:00It'd be really convenient for Shadow if the only power of his he could block was his speed.

03:05The same logic behind him being able to block his speed

03:10would also apply to all of his other Chaos Powers

03:13because they're all Chaos Powers.

03:16I can't tell what's going on again.

03:19Shadow ends up in some water

03:20but it gets up anyways.

03:23Mephlas says this swamp is his limb so he can make anything.

03:28He ends up becoming an unrecognizable giant

03:31so it's not even really showing what a Mephlas and Shadow fight would be like anymore.

03:35As if him having new powers didn't already do that.

03:39Of course it is great that he had new powers

03:41because otherwise the fight would have been completely worthless.

03:46Why would I want to see the exact same thing again?

03:48He calls Shadow powerless

03:51and that gets Shadow's ego bruised enough

03:54that he used his imagination

03:55and just so happens to end up landing on a new power he has

03:59that he can use against him.

04:01Mephlas hypocritically calls him an ugly sight

04:04and Shadow gets to attack him

04:06but the only impact I ever saw

04:08is one time where Mephlas' head is hit against the floor.

04:12That's familiar.

04:15What's the point of the fight with Mephlas

04:17if we never saw any impact against him?

04:21Why is it too much to ask

04:22to see Shadow's fists and shoes

04:24smacking into him a bunch?

04:27Why even have a fight then?

04:30Instead it was just flashy rule of cool

04:32doing everything but

04:33have slapstick in it

04:35which was the whole point.

04:38Mephlas says he wanted to make wishes come true himself

04:41so he went after Shadow

04:43to prove he was the one with power

04:45so that he could do that.

04:46Why is he completely calm about

04:48his dream being destroyed?

04:51Wouldn't he be really upset about it?

04:54He heard about this exposition from Black Doom.

04:57Shadow hasn't heard his name before

04:59despite the fact that he knew

05:00in an earlier issue that he was created by him.

05:04I wish he said father instead of parent

05:06so it would have the emotional impact

05:08it was supposed to.

05:09It's so tame the way it is.

05:13It doesn't lead to Shadow angsting

05:15that he never had normal parents.

05:19Shadow gets sent back

05:20and realizes that the only thing

05:22he can remember anymore

05:23is that he lost Maria and came here.

05:26Because this is a magical dimension.

05:29With magical things happening arbitrarily.

05:32He reunites with Maria

05:35and tells someone to get away from her

05:36because he looks like a monster.

05:40And he's just been fighting monsters

05:41so it's entirely reasonable I guess.

05:44The story ends with Black Doom talking to him.

05:48This issue was about Shadow having two fights

05:51that once again only managed to achieve tension

05:54because of the art

05:55and Bug Eye getting emotional about it.

05:59Maria gets to have exactly the reactions

06:01you'd expect

06:02and it never goes beyond that.

06:04So it's good that she's in character

06:06but I want a lot more than that.

06:10Mephiles doesn't act like he did in the game

06:12by saying that he just wants to exist

06:14and being pitiful.

06:16Which is better than making the audience

06:18feel sorry for him

06:19and wish that he would have just had the common sense

06:21to leave Shadow alone

06:22and enjoy what he's got.

06:25It is ironic that a manga

06:26is better at keeping him in character

06:28than the game did.

06:31I guess I didn't hate this issue.

06:33It was annoying though

06:34that I don't know why Mephiles has these new powers

06:37and the Mephiles fight ended up

06:39a completely wasted opportunity

06:40since we never see Shadow impact him

06:43in the fight personally.

06:45Making clear that it's only Mephiles

06:47for some shallow fan service

06:48and they didn't actually think.

06:52Only the Maria scene

06:53was actually worth reading.

06:56I bet the boss fights

06:57were just like the game

06:58so why even bother with it?
