00:00The Rams take the field here at SoFi Stadium, prepared to face the Chargers.
00:05And before they do, let's introduce the fourth member of our broadcast team.
00:08Kurt Sandoval is down on the field.
00:14Hey, thanks, guys.
00:15It's interesting that head coach Sean McVay is so unique mentally, emotionally, and X's and O's.
00:21He's got the first handoff today.
00:23He's handing off the head coaching duties to Aubrey Pleasant,
00:26a man who's usually in charge of the defensive backs.
00:30He usually brings a lot of energy to those DBs on game day, and he says that will not change.
00:35He calls it from a top-down situation.
00:38He's going to really focus on the offense and looking into their eyes like a defensive back,
00:43and on defense, do the same thing.
00:44Aubrey Pleasant, a man from Flint, Michigan,
00:47who is so appreciative of the opportunity for the second year in a row.
00:51Guys, back upstairs to you.
00:53All right, Kurt, hope the outcome is the same as last year.
00:55It was great for Aubrey Pleasant and the Rams.
00:57We'll take a look at Jim Harbaugh.
01:00He's firing up his starter, Justin Herbert.
01:02Jim was in the headlines yesterday.
01:04It'll be an extended hiatus from college football, but he seems just fine with the Chargers here,
01:11with a nice future in front of him.
01:14Wild to see Justin Herbert out there.
01:17This is going to be a sixth season in the NFL.
01:18He has never played in a preseason game.
01:21Some of that is by circumstance.
01:22He was drafted during the COVID season.
01:25He hurt his foot last year.
01:27You see Jim Harbaugh and you think, okay, he's old school.
01:29It's probably his call.
01:30No, this was Justin Herbert wanting to get his seat legs in the preseason, Maurice,
01:34and I'm excited for it.
01:35Yeah, that's shocking when a guy like him who's been paid so much,
01:38has done so much in the league, but also they want to start fast, right?
01:41You've had some injuries.
01:43You want to see what this offensive line is going to be built like with Joe Ault,
01:46moving from right tackle to left tackle.
01:47It's some of the other pieces that they're going to put together.
01:50I'm excited to see what the Chargers do offensively here to start this game.
01:54Rams will kick it off, and it was interesting last week to see the mix of Ethan Evans,
01:58the punter who will tee it up first here, as well as place kicker Joshua Cardy.
02:03The Rams had no interest in kickoffs last year.
02:06They booted everything they could out the back of the end zone,
02:08but with the league moving the touchback line from the 30 to the 35 this year
02:13as part of the dynamic kickoff,
02:15it seems the Rams might be inclined to experiment a little bit more.
02:20But not right now.
02:22So much for that idea.
02:23Thank you very much, Ethan Evans.
02:24The touchback machine will get it quickly to Herbert,
02:28who's coming off a career year.
02:2923 touchdowns and just three picks in the regular season,
02:33but then a disaster of a wild card trip to Houston.
02:36He threw more interceptions that day than he did all season.
02:39The one thing that Houston Texans did, they shut down the running game.
02:42They were stunting their line.
02:43They were beating this offensive line to the punch.
02:46I wonder if the Rams may do that today.
02:48Some stunts, slants, and trying to beat guys to the spot.
02:53Chris Paul, the drafted linebacker, and Sean Dolak, the undrafted out of Buffalo.
02:58The two stacked behind the line on defense for the Rams with a fullback.
03:01Herbert throws low into the outside.
03:03Incomplete, Clinton Johnson was his target.
03:07Justin telling Harbaugh that he wanted to see a pass rush before the season goes live.
03:11That's why he's out there today.
03:13We talked about the Chargers reworked offensive line.
03:18Joe Alt, who's been playing left tackle, did play left tackle in college at Notre Dame extremely well.
03:24A lot of folks thought he would do that in the league.
03:25So that I think they feel good about.
03:27It's the rest of the offensive line that you're a little bit concerned about,
03:29particularly the right tackle position.
03:31Former and once again current Charger, Keenan Allen in the formation as Herbert sinks to throw.
03:37Clicks through his progression.
03:38Over the ball, complete near midfield.
03:41And crossing in the Rams territory, Ladd McConkie coming off a prolific debut season.
03:46Has 17 yards before Chris Paul Jr. tracks him down.
03:50McConkie so good at finding the soft spaces in those zone defense.
03:54You saw that all last year.
03:55Such a friendly target to Herbert, particularly running over the middle of the field.
03:58Yeah, and again, the Rams in the blitz.
04:00He just replaces that backer, sits about 10 yards over the field.
04:03And this is the thing about Justin Herbert.
04:05He knows exactly where he wants to go with the football.
04:07Again, what an opportunity for this defense to compete against.
04:10Chargers have a couple of wins, having played in the Hall of Fame game.
04:13They've yet to trail this season.
04:14Plenty of time for Herbert to deal down the right sideline.
04:18And well played by the L.A. secondary.
04:21Johnson once again was the target for the Rams.
04:24And Tanner Engel helped separate him from the football.
04:27That's a big hit there.
04:27Not one you want to see when you play your starters in the preseason.
04:39Double move on the outside here by Quinton Johnson.
04:42Great job of batting the ball away.
04:44And, yes, took a shot there.
04:47And that's just football for you.
04:52Like the corner, A.J. Green may have gotten a fingertip on the football before it arrived at its intended target.
04:58Chargers medical staff on the field here at SoFi Stadium.
05:00Early moments here, first quarter, Chargers and Rams.
05:09Quinton Johnson being attended to by the full force of the Chargers medical staff.
05:13Our Kurt Sandoval is down in the vicinity on the field.
05:16Kurt?
05:16Yeah, guys, the good news is you can see him moving his right legs, and he was trying to unsnap his chin strap.
05:23So when it comes to a dangerous neck injury like that, that's a great sign.
05:28Also, tip of the cap to the Rams medical staff because this happened close to their locker, their sidelines, rather.
05:35And Reggie and his staff were one of the first teams out.
05:38They recognized it right away and got his head, you know, where it wouldn't be immobilized right away.
05:43A lot of medical staff, obviously, out here on the field, hoping for nothing but the best, but they're still tending to him, obviously.
05:51Yeah, Harbaugh walked all the way across the field.
05:53What we were all hoping to be able to show you as we return to SoFi Stadium,
06:16Quinton Johnston with his whereabouts returning, able to stand up, walk off, at least to the cart where he was escorted off the field just a few moments ago.
06:25It's all part of the first drive for the Chargers offense.
06:29Herbert back to work across midfield with a fullback in motion.
06:33Marion Hampton, who was overshadowed by the star power of Willie Lampkin during his career at North Carolina,
06:40still found enough attention to be drafted with the 22nd overall pick.
06:44You saw the movement there by the Chargers offensive line, and that's what you don't want to see.
06:50This is, again, for the defensive line, opportunity to shed and get off blocks
06:53and then be able to make a play too much there on second down, I would say.
06:57Leaving third and half the chains.
07:02Herbert has connected on one of his three throws so far.
07:05It was good for 17 yards to McConkie for this first down.
07:09Now trying to extend the opening possession.
07:10Hits his back foot, bounces in the pocket, and spins one to the sideline.
07:15That's caught inside the 15 for a new set of downs for the Chargers.
07:20KLS, Keandre Lambert-Smith already being talked about as a steal in the receiving core.
07:24That's 29 through the year.
07:26Yeah, they sent McConkie across as a coverage indicator.
07:28He saw that he had Lambert-Smith.
07:30Isoed up.
07:31Beautiful ball.
07:32He's been fantastic, by the way.
07:33This preseason, I thought week one, the young receiver was terrific.
07:37Excited to see what he does.
07:38I would say this.
07:40Jolly was in great coverage.
07:42I mean, he's outside leverage.
07:43He's right where he wants to be.
07:45But when you have one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL,
07:48great coverage is always going to be by a better throw.
07:51There's a flag in the secondary on the Rams.
07:53Picked up as the Chargers will take that gain.
07:56And a new set of downs from the 14.
07:59Herbertoff play action with the rush arriving on his doorstep.
08:03Off schedule now and slides down at the 21.
08:05Desjuan Johnson knocked him off his spot initially.
08:09And the Rams rallied to the Chargers quarterback.
08:13Really good job by the Rams' defense of diagnosing this tight end screen to the right.
08:18They set up a screen.
08:19The Rams had it figured out.
08:21Tight ends covered.
08:22And now here comes the rush.
08:23Hunt, boys.
08:24They got right to him.
08:25That was Temecula native.
08:26Brennan Jackson getting contact on the quarterback.
08:29Second down, 18.
08:33Chargers backed up outside the red zone now.
08:37Three by one to the wide side of the field.
08:39That's where Herbert looks.
08:41Now to the boundary and to the pyloning completes.
08:44Lambert Smith with the target.
08:47A.J. Green had the coverage for the Rams.
08:49It's a really nice job by A.J. Green, who I thought was excellent last week, by the way.
08:53Veteran corner coming in here to compete.
08:55Just staying in phase.
08:57Getting his eyes turned around.
08:58Not getting handsy or grabby.
09:00And then interfering with the football.
09:02You know, the easiest throw to complete in the NFL is that fade ball.
09:05But when you have a long corner like that, I mean, he's able to kind of get his hands and mess with the receiver.
09:11And it's tough to get that concentration back on the football.
09:14Third down and 18 here.
09:15It almost plays like Angle.
09:16You can see the Chargers need to get inside the four-yard line.
09:20A bit of a give-up run here with Hampton barreling through.
09:23I guess nothing is certain when he takes the handoff.
09:26Shortening up the field goal try as that unit jogs on.
09:30Obviously short of the first down.
09:31But Omurian Hampton, what you see there, that size and speed combination is so rare.
09:37Allows him to get skinny, get north-south, and then the burst and ability to break tackles.
09:42Just so impressive.
09:43When I scouted him, he was a guy that you want to have on track.
09:47And I got a chance to speak with Khalil McDonald, the running back coach for the Chargers this summer.
09:52And he talked about that's what they want.
09:54Downhill, on track, break tackles, wear down the defense.
09:56Former Ram, Cameron Dicker, 32 yards to cap the opening drive for the Chargers.
10:03Eight plays, 51 game, three points on the board.
10:07And our best to Quinton Johnston, who has shaken up.
10:09A 32-yard field goal at the end of their first possession.
10:20Stetson Bennett and the Rams about to take theirs.
10:23So 3-0 Chargers in preseason game number two.
10:26Time for the keys of the game.
10:27Brought to you by San Diego Tourism.
10:30Happiness is calling.
10:31Plan your trip today.
10:32MJD wants to show off his UCLA education, apparently.
10:35Yeah, seize the day.
10:36Carpe diem.
10:37Seize the day.
10:37An opportunity to play against some NFL starters.
10:40We've already seen the Rams defense go out and play well.
10:43Excited for that stop.
10:44Now we'll see what the offense can do.
10:45Second, we've got to avoid turnovers.
10:47Going into last week, Stetson Bennett had too many interceptions in the preseason.
10:51Last week, aside from one pick downfield, clean day of football.
10:54He was excellent otherwise.
10:55But first and foremost, got to avoid turnovers.
10:58Rams won the trenches last week against the Cowboys.
11:01This is a much different test against the starting defense for the Chargers upcoming
11:05as Dicker sells one out of bounds on his first kick attempts.
11:11So other than Kahlil Mack and Derwin James, Stetson Bennett will be staring at the ones for the Chargers.
11:20And he gets the ball at the 40-yard line because the kick went out of bounds.
11:24How about that?
11:24Gets you a short field.
11:25So pretty good last week targeting ten different Rams pass catchers and connecting with nine of them.
11:31It was a really balanced run-pass attack to the Rams offensively.
11:37Highest scoring output in a preseason game of the Sean McVay era.
11:42Blake Corum, who got a couple of short touchdown runs to begin the scoring last week.
11:47Gets the start.
11:48Seven yards deep of Bennett.
11:51Away from center with the first snap.
11:53Rhythm throw, complete to the 50.
11:55Drake Stoops moved the chains on one pitch and catch.
11:59Denzel Perryman on his back on the Chargers defense.
12:02So you got the Rams backup offensive line against Chargers starters on the defensive line.
12:06What do you do to mitigate what could be a mismatch?
12:09Quick game.
12:09Ball comes out quick, accurate, successful throw.
12:12A lot like what we saw from Bennett last week.
12:13I swear, everyone used to run that same play against the Rams to start the game the last, like, four or five years.
12:19Great job of getting your young quarterback at completion early.
12:23Yeah, let's get Aaron Donald off to a slow start call to begin each week.
12:27First down from across midfield.
12:29Corum slicing through a big, gashing hole.
12:32And he's got nearly ten.
12:34So back-to-back plays.
12:35The Rams rolling on offense, picking up right where they left off last Saturday.
12:40I mean, what vision here.
12:41It's tough to see that backside A-gap.
12:43But as the linebacker runs over the top, you see Corum kind of get right behind the center and get vertical.
12:49Those are some of the best runs.
12:51It's just not running side-to-side but getting vertical and making sure you're getting as much as you can.
12:56Shot territory here, Maurice?
12:57You know I love shots.
12:59Second and one.
13:01Just beyond the Chargers 40.
13:04Two to each side.
13:05Play action.
13:06They blitz the backside.
13:07Nicely done by Bennett.
13:08Flips it up and over the top to Xavier Smith, who moves the chain.
13:12That's a really nice job by Stetson Bennett getting that ball off of play action with the defender in his face.
13:18Layering it over him.
13:19And then Xavier Smith, first target there, was excellent last week.
13:22Excited to see him do more this week.
13:24Oh, no question.
13:25Again, that's a tough catch.
13:27That's a tough throw.
13:28But to be able to make that, those are two guys that have been on this roster that have made that play probably over a thousand times in their time here at the Rams.
13:35One of the NFL's tallest corners there.
13:37Ben St. Juice in his face, too.
13:38He put it up over the top of 6'3 on the attack.
13:42New set of downs.
13:43Another handoff for Coran.
13:45Trying to jump cut to his right and ran into a wall.
13:48The first zero of the day for the Rams offense.
13:50Alohi Gilman shuts it down.
13:52That's a great tackle by Alohi Gilman coming into the box.
13:55The Chargers play a ton of dime personnel.
13:57They love bringing their safeties close to the liner scrimmage.
14:00Usually Durbin James is in that mix.
14:01But Gilman is, I feel like, an underrated star.
14:03We talk so much about Durbin James, but he has been excellent for them at the safety position.
14:07Less about the tackle for me.
14:08Gilman just took on a receiver and mushed him out the way and made the play.
14:12He's playing like a linebacker like they have him doing that dime package.
14:16Fifth play of the Rams' first possession.
14:18Back in the belly of Coran.
14:20Patient to the hole and then speedy through it.
14:23A couple of decisive runs for Blake Coran.
14:26The vision.
14:26The vision.
14:27And that's what you wanted to see from Blake Coran.
14:29That's what you saw in Michigan.
14:30The patience.
14:31The vision.
14:32The footwork.
14:33Getting skinny.
14:34Making the defense overcommit.
14:35Finding that backside A gap again.
14:38And then getting a gain of 10 on that one, it looked like.
14:41Tight end Davis Allen with one of the blocks to spring him.
14:44With Harbaugh on the other sideline.
14:47Blake Coran with some early juice here in week two of the preseason.
14:52Look at Coach Gould over on the L.A. sideline.
14:55His portfolio of backs.
14:58Dynamic last week against the Cowboys.
15:00Jet sweep.
15:01They get it on the edge.
15:02And Smith ducks down at the 21.
15:06Deion Henley hit him there.
15:07But it's another positive gain for this Rams offense.
15:10With Nate Sheilhouse coordinating the Rams offense today.
15:14The pass game coordinator.
15:15I love that.
15:16Allow other guys to kind of get in rhythm.
15:18See what they like.
15:19Different play callers.
15:21Different people in Stetson Bennett's ear.
15:23And then see how these guys execute.
15:24This is a great play here on first down.
15:26You get a gain of five.
15:27But it forces eye violations.
15:29You see you're able to get outside.
15:31Now they have to respect the fly sweep motion.
15:33Saw Coach Kyron there as well.
15:35Kyron Williams working the clipboard today.
15:37Second and half the chain.
15:39Shotgun snap.
15:40Bennett on the roll.
15:41Settles his feet.
15:42Finds a target at the 10.
15:44It's Xavier Smith again with first and goal.
15:46That's such a great adjustment by Xavier Smith.
15:49Ball thrown behind him.
15:50Reaching back.
15:51Snagging the football for the gain.
15:53He saw that last weekend.
15:54He's a smaller receiver.
15:55But he has made some difficult catches.
15:57His catch radius is really impressive at his size.
15:59You really saw that on display there.
16:01It reminds me of a play that Tutu Atwell caught against the Buffalo Bills last year with the game on the line.
16:06He comes up with the big play to get the Rams down the tight red zone.
16:10With guys bearing down them, smaller receivers, playing big.
16:14And goal.
16:15Bennett steps under center.
16:16Bobbles the snap.
16:17Feeds Corum a run behind his pads to the two.
16:21Henley met him there and kept him out of the end zone.
16:25If you're the Rams, you've got to be thrilled with the way this drive has gone.
16:28I mean, get a little chippy in there.
16:32Getting, you know, just so efficient.
16:35Moving the ball on the Chargers.
16:36Once again, we stress, these are the Rams backups against the Chargers starters.
16:41That's Gilman shaking up for the Chargers.
16:44It looked like him and Xavier Smith have been going at it back and forth.
16:48A little chirpiness there.
16:49Gilman's one of those physical guys.
16:51He's going to come in and try to take shots on guys.
16:53He might have got a little friendly fire.
16:55But you're right, I mean, I think the way this, the Rams are moving.
16:58And it's not your play caller.
17:00It's not your starters.
17:02And you're moving down the field against the starting defense of the Los Angeles Chargers.
17:07A lot of promise here.
17:08We talked about seizing the day.
17:09This offensive line is doing that right now.
17:11Maybe I should drop some names, right?
17:12David Questenberry at tackle.
17:14Wyatt Bowles in the mix.
17:16Of course, got Bo Limmer in there.
17:18Moving people on that left side.
17:20Warren McClendon out on the right tackle spot.
17:23See Diedich there.
17:23Where would the Rams be without Diedich?
17:25He basically saved the Rams' season when it was on the brink last year.
17:30Timeout on the field with Gilman still trying to gather himself.
17:34Second and goal coming up for the Rams.
17:40Chargers with an opening field goal.
17:42Stetson Bennett leading the Rams to end goal from the two on what will be the ninth play of the drive.
17:47Mina, you were just pointing out this is where the Chargers would love to have a Puna Ford perhaps,
17:51but he's in the other locker room at so far now.
17:53Yeah, so important to their run defense.
17:55They play with a ton of light boxes.
17:56Jesse Minter's defense.
17:58Puna Ford had a one-year deal with the Chargers.
18:00Parlayed that into a deal across town with the Rams.
18:03It kind of looks like they're missing him right now, Maurice.
18:06Not kind of.
18:07I mean, you're talking about lanes opening up.
18:10Excited to see these backups compete.
18:13Drop Bennett into the shotgun.
18:15Kanate Mumfield, the rookie receiver, isolated right.
18:18A trix punch tight to the left.
18:19And here comes the tight end.
18:21Davis Allen in motion.
18:22Play fake.
18:22End zone.
18:23Touchdown, Rams.
18:24You love play action at the goal line.
18:26Kanate for the touchdown.
18:27That was for you, Maurice.
18:28No question.
18:29Listen, any time you run play action at the goal line, it's a touchdown.
18:33Everyone is selling out.
18:34I've begged for that, JB, for years for Sean to do that.
18:38Great call here.
18:39Great execution by this Rams offense.
18:42The offensive line, they do a great job.
18:44They fire off the ball.
18:45They stay low.
18:46Corham does everything.
18:47Pulls everyone up.
18:48And then Mumfield right behind the safety there with a touchdown.
18:52Hell of a drive, by the way, by Nate Schielehaus,
18:54the Rams pass game coordinator who you're seeing there.
18:57I thought just you talked about the use of misdirection earlier with the sweep,
19:01run pass conflict, constantly keeping the defense in confusion.
19:05It's what the Rams do best, and he did it excellently there.
19:09Extra points up and through for Joshua Cardi.
19:13The Rams audience would probably prefer, Nina, that we stop mentioning Nate's name.
19:19He's kind of a rising star in the coaching profession,
19:22and Rams fans don't want any more plucked off the McVay tree.
19:26That's why it's so cool that Sean McVay does this, by the way.
19:28Gives his younger coaches a chance to call plays,
19:31make a name for themselves in the preseason.
19:33You talked about the Rams backups getting to put this on tape.
19:37This is his tape, too, and thus far it looks pretty good.
19:40I think that's the special thing about the Rams,
19:43which is that you get opportunity here, where most coaches don't give that.
19:46It's not, this doesn't happen all the time in the NFL,
19:49where a coach, a defensive back coach gets to be the head coach,
19:53and a pass game coordinator gets to call plays.
19:57That doesn't happen.
19:58And so for Sean to be able to say, here, this is your time to shine,
20:01that's why so many people come here and get their guys,
20:04and yet the Rams can still stay consistent winning,
20:07gives credit to obviously Les Snead and Sean McVay
20:09and what they've done throughout their time here together.
20:12You know, the Chargers actually canceled joint practices with the Rams this week.
20:16They were too banged up to go.
20:17Quick pivot from McVay and the Rams to find the Saints before they left town.
20:21Went head-to-head Thursday in Carson.
20:23It was a muddy day for the offense,
20:25so that's a nice bounce-back performance by Stetson
20:27and the Rams offense to go perfect on that first drive.
20:32Ethan Evans returns the favor, spinning one out of bounds,
20:34as L.A. continues to experiment with trying to put balls in the landing zone
20:39so as not to surrender the 35-yard line.
20:42It's interesting to see them out there instead of Joshua Cardi, the Rams kicker,
20:46and they mixed them up last week, and I think to your point, J.B.,
20:49it really is about experimenting,
20:52and it thus far seems like the Rams are going to try to put the ball in play more this season,
20:57as I suspect a lot of teams will do with the touchbacks being moved to 35 yards.
21:02As we expected, one and done for Justin Herbert.
21:04He leads a field goal drive, turns the keys over to Taylor Heineke,
21:07who started last Sunday's game against the Saints
21:10after not playing in the opener in Canton, Ohio.
21:13Hands off to Kamani Vidal.
21:15Nothing doing up front as the Rams' defense limits the game.
21:20Heineke had a rough debut preseason-wise last week,
21:23one of five passing, only eight yards.
21:26Harbaugh saying afterwards he would not talk about the second-string quarterback competition,
21:31which involves Trey Lance.
21:34Trey Lance is nice this preseason.
21:37Really good.
21:39Gain of two, second down, eight.
21:41Play fake.
21:42On platform, Heineke from his heels.
21:45Tipped and nearly picked.
21:47Darion Kendrick had a chance after it got through Lambert Smith.
21:52It looks like you have another charger that may be down.
21:55Took a big hit as he was coming across the middle.
21:58That's one of those balls where the quarterback, it's high, it's high,
22:01and it has to be fast.
22:03It's a little late there, and it takes a nice shot.
22:06Man, I'm honestly lucky that Lambert Smith didn't take a bigger hit
22:10with all the air that he put on that football,
22:12and you see so many Rams defenders converging on him at once.
22:15A.J. Green, who had a pass break up on that first defensive sequence,
22:22delivering a glancing blow there, incomplete for third down and eight,
22:26and having already lost Quinton Johnson on the first possession.
22:30Now Keiondre Lambert Smith, fifth-round pick, also being looked at.
22:41He scored a 15-yard touchdown in that Hall of Fame game in his preseason debut.
22:46No stranger to the Southland either.
22:48Had an 88-yard reception in the Rose Bowl in 2023 against Utah.
22:57All right, time now for a player interview powered by your Southern California.
23:01Toyota dealers, visit toyota.com to learn more.
23:04We make it easy.
23:06With the shades on, the conductor.
23:09Kobe Turner, what's up, bud?
23:10What's up, J.B., how we doing?
23:12Better for seeing you.
23:13What's going on down there today?
23:15Nothing much, man.
23:16The guys are bringing the juice.
23:17I mean, steady, getting the guys going, and the defense holding up really well.
23:21So I'm just excited watching these boys go to work, excited to see what today brings.
23:26Hey, Kobe.
23:26It's Meena Kimes here.
23:28You suddenly became the old man on this defensive line.
23:31When did that happen?
23:32I know, right?
23:32I'm only in year three, but they're looking at me like I'm in year seven or something.
23:35Talk to me about some of these youngsters.
23:37What have you been seeing this summer?
23:38Man, we have a lot of energy, a lot of passion.
23:41And, I mean, I think of all of the guys that we have on our front, I know they get a lot of attention.
23:46Obviously, we're a dominant front, but I think of the way that Omar Spades has shown up throughout camp,
23:50the way that Nate Landman has come in, his instant impact.
23:53And then, obviously, the guys that we have in the secondary, Q Lake leading up those boys.
23:57We're going to be something to be reckoned with.
24:00So, I'm excited about, you know, the group that we have, for sure, some of those youngsters.
24:04And then, you know, the young guys that are out here playing, they're doing their thing.
24:08I know Kanata just got his touchdown.
24:11So, excited to see these boys go to work.
24:13Kobe, MJD here.
24:14Look, this defensive line has wrecked a lot of teams last year.
24:18What can we expect from you guys this year?
24:19And as the leader of the defense, that group, how much pressure is on you guys to make plays, play in and play out?
24:26Yeah.
24:26It's not pressure when you've got guys like who we have.
24:29When you can come into the facility day in and day out and see the way that these guys work and the way that these guys attack things.
24:34And so, we're going to be able to build off of what we had last year, of course.
24:38That chemistry, that camaraderie, that knowledge of the game and how we work together as well.
24:43And I'm excited to, just as excited as you are, I'm sure, but to see what we put out there on the tape, man.
24:48We're going to be a group that's going to be ferocious, that's going to be energetic and aggressive.
24:51And we're going to come after you.
24:52We're going to attack all day.
24:53And that's going to ultimately lead to some good results.
24:56So, we're going to do the work every single day, and we'll see what happens on Sundays.
24:59But if I was betting, and if I was a betting man, I'd bet on our guys 1,000%.
25:04Kobe, talk to me about your defensive coordinator, Chris Shula.
25:07I think the defensive game plan against Minnesota really raised a lot of eyebrows, in a good way, around the league.
25:13What has he brought to this defense?
25:15Yeah, he's really been able to take all of our abilities and hone in the game plan into exactly what we do best.
25:24And so, what you see on Sundays is, you know, the work that goes in throughout the week.
25:28We practice things, obviously.
25:30But he really sets up the game plan and structures it in a way that we use our best abilities to be able to go and affect the pass or affect the run game or to really be able to shut down offenses.
25:40And so, it's been a big help, obviously, to have Shula lead in this defense coming into year two.
25:45He knows us.
25:45We know him.
25:46We trust him.
25:47And we're ready to go to war for that man.
25:48I'll tell you that.
25:49Kobe, as a leader of this defense, why didn't you warn Jared Burse about Aaron Donald?
25:55And why did you let him do that?
25:57Hey, man.
25:58Sometimes, you know, he's still a rookie until, you know, the first three games of the season.
26:02That's right.
26:02You know, that's a part of his rookie lessons.
26:04That's his – I'm sure that's one of his coming-to-the-league moments.
26:06But one thing that you don't do is you don't poke the bear and you definitely don't poke 99.
26:11But he got his work in and he came back and he learned his lesson.
26:14But, I mean, you're not going to stop, 8.
26:17He's always going to go and try to call out your best man.
26:20What just happened?
26:21You're good.
26:22Just an incompletion, not a pick-six.
26:23Sorry, I was reacting.
26:25I've all got tipped.
26:26I've all got tipped.
26:27Last question before we get back to this game.
26:30For those who don't know, your nickname is The Conductor because you are a very talented musician.
26:34Any new music coming out?
26:36Update us.
26:37So, I don't have anything yet.
26:40I have a couple of songs that I've been, you know, working with or whatnot.
26:44But I know I was able to perform at Walk United at L.A.
26:46I was able to sing my cover of Praying and that was a super powerful moment.
26:50And so, we'll kind of see where that goes.
26:52Just got a new guitar yesterday, so I'm excited to kind of test it out, see what it's like.
26:57But at the end of the day, you know, football season's coming up.
26:59So, I'll do some of my music stuff at my house and then we'll kind of see where it goes from there.
27:04Naheem Miller-Hines on that punt return, wrapped up just above the 30-yard line.
27:09Hey, whoever gets the sack count this year, the sack lead, what's the prize for that Pearson group as Jared Burks walks up behind you?
27:17Hey, the prize is that they get to keep their beard.
27:19This guy right here, he's going to have his beard shaved off by the end of the season and I'm going to be keeping mine.
27:23I don't know, I want to see you take the title.
27:28I think this is a big year for you, Kobe.
27:29I hope at your best yet after two great ones to start.
27:32No doubt, no doubt.
27:33Yeah, I'm betting on myself as well.
27:35I should be keeping that beard, man.
27:37So, that's the plan.
27:38But you know what it's like to take that year one to year two leap.
27:41We thought you were NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year worthy in your debut season.
27:46What does having a full offseason mean for the likes of Verse and Fisk?
27:50It means that they get to fully understand the defense and they get to be a part of the team and impact the team throughout the entirety of the offseason.
27:57Instead of having to come in, you know, have to feel it out rookie season, figure out how they're going to mess with the team and put their role on the team,
28:05now they're a part of this team and they get to set the foundations as we all do going through all the OTAs.
28:10And so, it's been super helpful to be able to have those guys around to be able to see, again, the way that they attack each and every day, the way that they work.
28:17And that work shows itself.
28:19So, to be able to have a full offseason with those guys, I'm excited to see what that turns into on Sundays.
28:24All right, you're the man, Kobe.
28:25We appreciate you.
28:25Thanks for some of the time.
28:26We're going to watch Ty Hamilton and some of these new members of your defensive front go to work.
28:30Let's go.
28:30Yes, sir.
28:31Appreciate y'all having me.
28:34After a 69-yard punt, the Chargers back to work on offense.
28:38And Heineke catches a completion to begin his new drive.
28:41There's Jaquay Jackson on the receiving end.
28:44You may have also seen that A.J. Green, whose name we've called quite a bit here in the first quarter, shaken up on that punt chugger.
28:53Here's a look at Shula.
28:54High praise for Chris going into year two at the D.C. from his defensive tackle.
28:59I love what he did last year.
29:00You only can expand on it.
29:01And talking with some of the defensive coaches,
29:03he went back and did some self-scouting and reflected and is ready to go for year two.
29:08Offset in the eye.
29:11Heineke from under center, stretching it right by Dell.
29:15Cannot find any daylight.
29:17Well, I think the calling card of that Rams defense last year was their ability to puncture pockets without having the blitz.
29:24I think that was what defined their defense and allowed them to really turn the corner in the second half.
29:28Again, this is about setting a vertical edge.
29:31And number 42 is a guy that I coached in high school, Fisk, who was flattened, wasn't able to get any type of penetration.
29:39Great job there by the Rams setting the edge and allowing the defense to get to him.
29:42Sean Dolak from upstate New York by way of Buffalo.
29:50Shotgun snap on second down.
29:52Heineke works the middle of the field.
29:54It's Jalen Johnson into Rams territory.
29:57Third down and manageable upcoming.
29:59Chris Paul Jr.
30:00Who Paul with the tackle for L.A.?
30:02Yeah, so we've got Dolak and Chris Paul out there.
30:07Right now, the Rams starters are Omar Spates and Nate Landman, who's a veteran coming over from the Falcons.
30:12But behind them, just kind of an open competition.
30:15And Omar Spates was undrafted last year, played in the preseason, won the starting job.
30:20So that's a position to watch in terms of getting reps and opportunities on this team.
30:23And that backup linebacker spot is a core special teamer.
30:27You're going to play special teams.
30:29And that's where Troy Rader is kind of the name to be, right?
30:32He's been with both the Rams and the Chargers.
30:34He's not playing today.
30:35Rams holding him back.
30:36They know kind of the established veteran baseline that they have in Troy.
30:40And I think it's incumbent upon some of these newcomers to see if they can deliver as much or more.
30:52Today's head coach, Aubrey Pleasant, and defensive coordinator Chris Shula trying to prepare their group for third down and three from the Rams' 48-yard line.
31:00Nina, what do you think they're going to run?
31:03Oh, I think they're going to run the football.
31:04You think they're going to run the football?
31:05I think so.
31:06Let's see who we got.
31:06I think they're going to go play, action, pass, throw to the flat.
31:09That's a Harbaugh special.
31:11That's an old spider two wide banana, JB.
31:14Chris, last year only 111 rushing yards per game.
31:17That was the lowest rate for a Harbaugh coach team going back to Stanford or the Niners or Michigan.
31:23It's definitely where they want to improve this year.
31:26Monty Vidal is the tailback as Heineke steps back into the shotgun.
31:32Looking for the 45 of the Rams.
31:35Rams coming after them.
31:36I'm going to get a slight hit on them, but Heineke scrambles for a first.
31:40That's a nice job by Taylor Heineke, seeing the opening, only three yards to gain.
31:44He is mobile.
31:46He saw that.
31:46He's seen that in multiple stops along the way in the NFL, probably most notably Washington.
31:50But he was with Atlanta.
31:51He's played for a number of different teams.
31:53He's got that scrambling ability where if you're on third and short, give him a lane, he'll take it to get the first down.
31:58Yeah, a little sneaky athletic, the ability to be able to make a guy miss and then get you the five or six yards,
32:03something that Justin Herbert was able to do as well.
32:05And I think that's why they went out and got Heineke to be able to kind of fit that mold of what Herbert's able to bring on third down.
32:14Second possession, both have reached Rams territory.
32:17LA blows this up.
32:18Keir Thomas has been doing a great job holding that edge.
32:25He just has not surrendered that spot throughout training camp and now into the preseason.
32:31The one thing about Keir Thomas is he just finds a way to make plays.
32:35He shows up on tape when he gets his opportunities in the preseason.
32:38Even in the regular season, he's shown up and had some big-time vertical edges, making guys cut back or getting to the quarterback.
32:45He had the safety in the playoff game against Philadelphia, yeah, against Jalen Hurts that made it really close.
32:53Second down and 11, Rams coming after Heineke.
32:56Oh, scrambling again.
32:56Out the side door, 40, 35, first down, 30.
33:01Shugged out by Dola.
33:04It's a final minute of the first, and Heineke doing most of his damage with his cleats.
33:08And it looks like someone's hurt for the Rams here on the Chargers sideline.
33:17Chris Paul, Chris Paul Jr. is down right now.
33:23A fifth-round pick.
33:25A rookie out of Ole Miss.
33:27Was sidelined by a calf strain during training camp.
33:30Was able to dress last week.
33:32And again here today, looking at his right leg.
33:51Let's hope for a cramp for Poupol.
33:54In preseason game number two, 7-3 Rams.
33:56Good to see Poupol walking off under his own power after being shaken up on the Chargers sideline.
34:05In our final minute of the opening frame, preseason game number two here at SoFi Stadium.
34:10Looks like he's having a little trouble putting pressure on one of his legs.
34:13You hate to see all these injuries today, by the way.
34:15It's been a rough one early on.
34:19It's the second drive for the Chargers.
34:22The third with Taylor Heineke at the controls.
34:24A minute to the Rams, 30.
34:27Play action.
34:28Pressure from his blind side.
34:30Able to check it down to Raheem Sanders.
34:33Played by Rocket.
34:35Wrapped up by Sean Dolak.
34:37And with Najee Harris out and Hampton, the rookie, established as running back one,
34:42Sanders, part of that group, trying to carve out a backup role.
34:45Yeah, you're talking about a guy that's 6'2", 230.
34:48That's a tough guy to tackle.
34:50That's a hardball-style backup guy that wants to go downhill.
34:52He does have an opportunity.
34:55They want big backs, and they're going to figure it out.
34:58Kanate Mumfield with a two-yard touchdown reception from Stetson Bennett.
35:03It starts the Rams' day offensively, and they've established a 7-3 lead after one in Inglewood.
35:09Let's open up the second quarter here at SoFi Stadium.
35:22The Rams have a touchdown on the board.
35:24Stetson Bennett to Kanate Mumfield.
35:26The Chargers with a 32-yard Dicker field goal.
35:29Mina, you're chuckling.
35:30Oh, just Chargers put some beef on the field.
35:34We got the Matlock, the fullback, Fisk, who's tight end, built like a fullback, jogging out there like it's turbo time.
35:41Maurice says, watch out for the shot.
35:42Let's see.
35:46Sanders, the deep back, and there goes Fisk, the tight end in motion.
35:49Three-snap penalty.
35:50Here's Bill Vinovich, who also worked the midweek joint practices with the Saints down in Carson, and that was not lost on some members of the New Orleans organization, because Bill Vinovich, for those who might remember, was also the lead official in the Big Easy back in the 2018 NFC Championship.
36:16People don't forget, is what you're trying to tell me, huh?
36:18Even in joint practices, I think he was catching some grief.
36:24Vidal now the back.
36:26Second down and seven.
36:27Play fake to him.
36:28Boot out the right side.
36:29Heineke finds a target late at the numbers, and down to the 15-yard line.
36:35Arande Gadsden the second.
36:37With a gain of 12, Sean Dolak collects another tackle from the linebacker level.
36:43You know, I'm going to age myself a little bit, but I used to play with his father on the video game.
36:48And so, how about that?
36:50What a job here by Heineke going through his progression.
36:53Rams had everyone else covered.
36:55He goes to that last check down, the fifth guy in the progression, the check down to your tight end.
37:00What a job there.
37:03New first down for the Chargers at the 15 of the Rams.
37:06Opening moments, second quarter.
37:09Middle run.
37:09Rams got an early hit on it, but contact balance from Vidal to make something out of nothing.
37:16Josh Wallace, who was playing exclusively at safety last week, and is again, comes up to help.
37:24Gets the penetration, but Vidal does a really nice job of staying on his feet, despite that.
37:29He is a smaller back, certainly in that Chargers running back game.
37:32We talked about how big the other guys are, including Hampton.
37:34But he has really nice contact balance, as you see there, and you've seen that throughout the preseason.
37:40You're talking about 5'8", 215.
37:42Tony Fields running that linebacker after the injury to Poo Paul.
37:48Clenched inside the 10, and rappelled.
37:50He'll be third down and short in the red zone for the Chargers.
37:53Looking to recapture the lead.
37:55Jack Heflin, a defensive tackle, with help from Tanner Engel on that stop.
38:01Tanner Engel fills that hole.
38:03I mean, we just talked about contact balance, and you saw Vidal stop as soon as they hit.
38:08But those are the plays that you want to see young safeties make.
38:11Come up and fill that hole, and be present in the running game.
38:20Andre James, former UCLA Bruin, leading his offensive line to the ball for third down and three.
38:26And another pre-snap infraction should back up the Chargers.
38:31Ball start.
38:33Offense number 72.
38:34Five-yard penalty.
38:36To a third down.
38:36It goes against David Sharp, who had signed last week after the Chargers loss for Sean Slater for the season.
38:43What a devastating blow that was for Hobbaugh and the Chargers.
38:47I will say, the injury kind of shattered.
38:50I thought the Chargers offensive line, the reconfigured offensive line, did look good on the first drive.
38:55Of course, they're playing the Rams backups.
38:56But Justin Herbert had a lot of time back there, particularly on that play, that shot to Quentin Johnston.
39:0111th play of this Chargers drive.
39:05Let's see if the Rams can get a takeaway or force a field goal.
39:09We need the five for a new set of downs.
39:11I think Skrull's caving in.
39:13Heineke will have to eat it.
39:15Brennan Jackson with the sack.
39:19Brennan Jackson gets the sack, but once again, that's not Johnson.
39:22You see the backfield penetration that he got.
39:25Well, there you have it.
39:26You have a stunt.
39:27They call that a TE.
39:28The tackle goes first.
39:29The DN goes underneath.
39:30Johnson with the immediate penetration.
39:32And then Brennan Jackson, who had a lot of promise last year as a guy that can come on and rush the quarterback, showing up well here today.
39:41I mean, we like to refer to Desjuan Johnson as our favorite Mr. Irrelevant in the NFC West.
39:46He's having quite a game today.
39:4739 yarders swerving.
39:50Good.
39:52Cameron Dickers hit from 32 and 39.
39:557-6 our new score.
39:56The Rams defense bends but does not break at the end of an 11 play.

40:37MJD is our resident youth football expert.
40:39We'll let him break down those slow motion replays after this return from Cody Schrader with the flag raining down.
40:45What about the 30 yard line?
40:49Schrader with a full head of steam late in last week's win.
40:53Holding receiving team number 43.
40:5610-yard penalty from the spot of the foul.
40:58First down.
40:58Nate Valkersol, the safety with the infraction.
41:01And that'll back Stetson Bennett up.
41:04He was excellent on his first drive.
41:0633 yards and a touchdown.
41:08To Kenate Mumfield.
41:09There's the undrafted rookie safety with some coaching tips from Aubrey Pleasance.
41:16And he's head coach for the Rams.
41:17Let me tell you what Aubrey's telling them.
41:19Keep your hands inside and move your feet.
41:21You got to do that.
41:22As they start to retreat and retrace, you have to run with them.
41:26New drive for Stetson Bennett with Jarquez Hunter, the tailback behind him.
41:34Here's the gear.
41:35Left side.
41:36Don't let his feet get started.
41:38Hunter had a couple of explosive runs against the Saints in joint practice on Thursday.
41:43In his debut, 11 carries, 41 yards here at SoFi last week.
41:49Let me tell you about this young fella.
41:51At Auburn, if you were in his way, watch out.
41:54I mean, once he put his foot in the ground, he is running through people with a violent intention.
41:59Great vision, but he was just like one of those one-cut runners that we see the Rams and the Niners have.
42:04Those outside zone guys that can put their foot in the ground and make things happen.
42:08They split him out and go from empty here.
42:10Stetson against a four-man rush.
42:12Nice pocket.
42:13Quick hitter to the 30.
42:16Mumpfield.
42:17Suplexed.
42:18It's a first down.
42:19Don't see any flags down.
42:21Troy Dye got him airborne.
42:23Here's the started the suplex inbounds, but finished it in violent fashion.
42:28But a really nice job by Stetson Bennett and a nice job by the Rams' offensive line protecting an empty, by the way, which is five back there.
42:34And excellent ball placement to get a good game.
42:36And I love that route, too.
42:37You hook up like it's zoned, and then you run out of it, putting the linebacker in a tough position
42:42to have to cover out of Oregon.
42:43And Tony Dye, whose brother went to UCLA.
42:46It's a UCLA reunion here today.
42:49Davis Allen, the tight end in motion.
42:52Back to Hunter, looking for daylight and drives the pile up to the 37-yard line.
42:59Well, he's strong, but he's explosive, too.
43:014-4-4 speed.
43:03Maurice, 37% of his carries last year, either a first down or hit the end zone.
43:08Well, again, watching his tape and the way Auburn ran, and it's tough the way colleges run their offense.
43:14But what you see with running backs is do they have vision and how quickly they can get to top speed.
43:20He was one of the fastest guys in the college to get into top speed.
43:23You talked about first down or touchdowns.
43:25Get out of his way.
43:26Play fake on second down and six, rolling outside the numbers.
43:32Bennett will take his yardage and get out of bounds, third and manageable, upcoming.
43:36Earlier, we talked about keys to the game, Stetson Bennett, avoiding turnovers, protecting the football.
43:42Off the play fake, nobody's open downfield.
43:44Good decision by him to just hold on to it and run.
43:46Exactly.
43:47Now for our coach, Cam, powered by your Southern California Toyota dealers.
43:50Visit Toyota.com to learn more.
43:53We make it easy, and for the second time in as many summers, we get to say hello to Aubrey Pleasence at the control today.
44:00How are you, Aubrey?
44:00Hello, crew.
44:01Doing fantastic, man.
44:03Really excited to see the way teams come out here to perform.
44:06I'm pleased with our offensive performance right now.
44:07There you go, steady.
44:08Yeah, against the Blitz, able to stand in and deliver for first down yardage to Drake Stoops.
44:13Take it away, Mina.
44:14Hey, Aubrey, this is Mina Kimes.
44:16Talk to us about another coach today who's calling the plays for you, Nate Sheelhaus.
44:20We thought he did a terrific job on that first drive, putting the Chargers defenders in conflict.
44:24Yeah, phenomenal job.
44:25I felt like he had a beautiful blend of the run-to-pass ratio right around 50-50.
44:30Smart, getting the ball out on time with Stetson, and I think he's done a phenomenal job with the weekly preparation,
44:35and then you see it translating in that first drive.
44:38Aubrey, as Maurice here, what is the most challenging thing about being the head coach
44:42and coming in and getting your team prepared to play against starters from the other side?
44:46Oh, wow.
44:47I tell you what, the hardest thing about it is that you're leading everybody
44:50so you don't get to get that little personal connection with your group.
44:53I told Sean, I said, hey, that head coaching office is a little lonely free game.
44:57I need to come in and say hello to you.
44:59Gosh.
44:59Man, Xavier Smith making another tough catch there.
45:01I just wanted to mention that.
45:02I want to ask you about one of the defensive players who I think has been super strong today,
45:07Desjuan Johnson, with the pressure earlier than the stunt at the end there.
45:10What do you see now of him?
45:11Yeah, we absolutely love any time that we can earn the right to rush
45:14when you play the run correctly on first and second down.
45:17Shout-out to Coach Giff, putting him in several really good situations
45:20for him to accentuate his skill set.
45:21Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, let's go, Danger.
45:25Let's go, Danger.
45:26That's the name of his horse, so that's my guy.
45:28I had to give a shout-out.
45:29Let's go, 3-5.
45:30I mean, picking those feet up, he might have got one.
45:32Hey, come on.
45:33Hey, I know you like that, Drew.
45:34I know you like that.
45:35Listen, I love any time short running backs get good love.
45:38What is it like going against Dark West Hunter in practice every day?
45:42You know, we joked about it as a defensive back crew.
45:44We said, hey, we guarantee that first preseason game,
45:47no matter who made first contact for that opposing team,
45:49he was going to run through that tackle.
45:51You know, a thing we love about him is you can just tell when he runs the ball,
45:54it's north and south.
45:55It's how can I be productive?
45:56How can I move the change?
45:57And we haven't seen him yet,
45:58but we think he has the gas to be able to take it to the home run.
46:00We have been talking about sort of the opportunity that there's for the other coaches,
46:06but yourself getting this sort of chance to coach a game.
46:08You had it last year as well.
46:10Can you talk to us about what it means for you personally?
46:13As you can only imagine, this is an unbelievable opportunity.
46:17You know, in life, you're provided some platforms,
46:19you're provided some opportunities.
46:21I couldn't be more thankful for the organization that gave me my first opportunity
46:24to be a position coach, to be the same organization,
46:27to give me a chance to be a head coach.
46:28And really, it's not just about me.
46:30It's about everybody else who's getting those elevated responsibilities today.
46:33And hopefully, we can come out with this W and make our fan base proud.
46:36Aubrey, I've heard you calling plays out at training camp.
46:39Talk us through this second down and eight.
46:40Hey, this is what I like.
46:41We got a little bit of spacing.
46:42Open it up to be able to see things for him and then get the ball out screen.
46:46I like it.
46:47I love it.
46:48Allow our playmakers to get in space
46:49and then also give him steady some formation reads so he can spread out the defense.
46:54You know, Aubrey, I will say this.
46:56When we brought Sean on last week,
46:58it didn't go as well.
46:59So we're going to keep you on here a little bit as this offense is rolling.
47:02Josiah Stewart got a sack.
47:03What are you talking about when he was on?
47:06Yeah, Sean gets a little frustrated because the defense struggles to get off the field when he joins us.
47:11Yes.
47:11We would love to cap this drive with a touchdown just so you can brag about it.
47:14You know what?
47:14I would love it too.
47:15But you have to remember, man,
47:16anytime you're a head coach or play calling duties,
47:18that dual challenge is not necessarily easy.
47:21And kudos to him for the ability to be able to do all these things at one time.
47:25We have one of the best head coaches in the league and one of the best leaders in this world.
47:29And I couldn't be more thankful for him giving me the opportunity to help lead us.
47:33Didn't get a chance to ask you if you'd go for it on fourth down there
47:36because Jarquez Hunter gives you first and goal from the three.
47:39Looks like you want to move quickly, Aubrey.
47:40Yes, I want to move quickly.
47:41I feel like we have the defense on their heels.
47:43The one thing I understand from being a defensive coach is the momentum and the pendulum swing
47:48and also when you can kind of grind and lean on people.
47:51Let's get this opportunity to lean and punch this thing in.
47:53We saw a play-action touchdown in the first quarter.
47:57Hunter's ready to feast.
47:59And goal from the three.
48:01Stetson under center.
48:02Here's the rookie tailback.
48:04Never got started.
48:06It's okay.
48:07It's okay, steady.
48:09Yep.
48:09It's good timing, though.
48:11Junior Coulson keeps it out of the end zone.
48:13Second and goal.
48:14Aubrey, as a defensive coach, what is it like when you see Sean, they'll come out,
48:20they'll run a play, and then they'll get right back on the ball
48:21and kind of put that defense in the bind.
48:24What does that make you think as a D coordinator, as a defensive coach?
48:27Well, you know what, Drew?
48:28Earlier in my career, I was on offense, and then the last couple years, I got a chance to be on it again.
48:32Anytime you can set the tempo with your offense.
48:35Defense is such a reactionary-based game, so when you can set the tempo on offense,
48:39I think that's an edge, and I think we use it, probably one of the best of anybody in the league.
48:43Bennett on the move.
48:44Extending the point.
48:45That's okay.
48:45Good job.
48:46Smart.
48:46Smart, steady.
48:47Smart.
48:48You play your game.
48:49We got nothing to lose, steady.
48:51Hey, how important is that to see from Bennett?
48:55We were talking about earlier on the boot, no one is open, he just runs out of bounds there.
48:58You are praising him for not forcing the ball, everybody's covered up.
49:02What kind of development are you seeing from the young quarterback?
49:03Just maturity, you know, just maturity.
49:06As coaches, we always ask our guys to improve, not only personally, but professionally, and
49:10you can see it firsthand.
49:11I mean, this kid won national championships at Georgia for a reason.
49:14It's in there, it's in him.
49:16He just doesn't have to force it.
49:17Sometimes just being who we are naturally is good enough.
49:22Thirteenth play of the drive, Jarquez Hunter.
49:26So what are you gonna do?
49:27Decision time.
49:34Two and a half out.
49:36There we go.
49:44Coach, we're gonna go for it here, huh?
49:45Yes.
49:46I like this drive.
49:48I told you I'm big on momentum, man.
49:49If this is a two-play explosive drive and we're down here, probably feel a little bit
49:53different.
49:54You know, let's give us a chance to capitalize it.
49:56We got four minutes going into the second half.
49:59We got a close game.
50:00They came out with our starters.
50:01We came out with our guys ready to rock.
50:03Come on, come on.
50:06Stetson then.
50:07First and goal.
50:09Busted up at the goal line.
50:11Tony Jefferson.
50:12Aubrey, that was great access.
50:16We really appreciate your perspective and your context.
50:20We'll let you greet your group as they come off the field as we step aside.
50:22That's a great drive.
50:24That's a great drive.
50:24We got field position.
50:26Just get ready to pop back off.
