00:00Lock avoids one rusher and a great pass to Derrick Young inside the 20, inside the 15, and hangs on to the football.
00:08Is that a little sidearm from Drew Lock?
00:10Yeah.
00:11I like these type of plays from Clint Kubiak, right?
00:13Because it goes back to these screens are kind of like run plays.
00:16What do you do?
00:17They rush back up to the line.
00:18They think that they're going to come in, do a run play.
00:20They come back with a play action, get right down the middle, and just changes the whole type of the game.
00:23The game plan, to me, this is what they need.
00:26These kind of pass plays that feel like run plays and they come back and establish this stretch run game as much as they can.
00:32Mike, you're describing a competent offense.
00:35I can't stress that enough to the 12s out there watching.
00:39Clint Kubiak has an answer for every question the defense presents.
00:42And off to Damian Martinez after that 31-yard catch and run by Derrick Young, another one of these receivers.
00:51He's hoping to be one of the final five, Mike B, because we're talking about the fact that probably only keeping five whiteouts.
00:57And the question is, how many pens does Clint Kubiak need?
01:00Look at it.
01:00I think he has four in his pocket.
01:02Listen, I'm very particular about my pens and the colors.
01:06The more you have, the smarter you look, you know?
01:08It's like if you go to a restaurant and a waiter doesn't have any pens, you worry that you're not going to get the right order.
01:13You know, if they have five pens, you know that what you ordered is coming back and it's going to be precise, you know?
01:19So the more he had pens he has, the more I think he can call plays right now.
01:23That was Jalen Smith on the tackle for Vegas.
01:25Damian Martinez once again.
01:27Crazy, man.
01:28You're not supposed to let my secrets out.
01:31Same thing with glasses.
01:32Just wear them to look smart.
01:33Do you need them?
01:35It's good to see Damian Martinez, you know, get extended time getting carries.
01:40Obviously, you've got Kenneth Walker, you've got Zach Charbonnet, there's a lot of guys in front of him.
01:45But I truly believe this guy has unique vision at the running back position.
01:51Glad to see him get some tickets.
01:52Locked underneath.
01:54Torrey Horton in for his first NFL touchdown.
02:06Great job by Torrey Horton on that play.
02:09Great read by Drew Locke.
02:13Good protection up front.
02:15Just watch the spacing right here.
02:17Just a little stick route.
02:19You know, must outside release by Damian Martinez up top.
02:24And just a turnaround into the space.
02:26Drew hits him with a dot.
02:28Turn around, get into the end zone.
02:30Torrey Horton, welcome to the National Football League.
02:33And those plays are hard, Mike, when you catch the ball because you're trying to, like, I'm at the end zone, and I got it.
02:38But sometimes you don't catch the ball.
02:39And right there, he had what they call them stickums.
02:41And it looks like he had something on his hands that made him stick to it.
02:44I don't know if you ever watch Little Giants.
02:46Yes.
02:46Right through the toilet paper right there.
02:48His hand, he had those stickers.
02:49And he was able to get the yak after the catch.
02:52Didn't get the extra point, but you two have fun taking us to break.
02:55Torrey Horton, as you said, welcome to Seattle and welcome to the NFL.
03:02Torrey Horton, throw it up, baby.
03:04First touchdown.
03:05Look at Spoon.
03:06Get hyped for your dog.
03:08We'll be back.
03:08Well, we've been talking about what a great camp this guy has had, how he flashed last Saturday here at Lumen for a football fest.
03:22And Torrey Horton, just before we stepped away, guys, first NFL touchdown.
03:26Yeah, I think it's one of those things where you lose Lockett and you're trying to find out who's going to be their third receiver.
03:32And I think he sees there's an opportunity.
03:34You have Kupika.
03:35And so now he's stepping in.
03:40No, I sort of kicked off the ball.
03:41I'm like, oh, he's got the ball.
03:42But you have those guys.
03:43And who's going to be that third guy when the game's on the line, the finals plays, finals holes.
03:48And I think he's like, there's an opportunity to use it as a young receiver.
03:51There's never that hole that's opened up.
03:53You're like, man, I've got these guys in front of me.
03:55But he sees that that's an open position right now.
03:57And he's taking full advantage of it every snap, every time he's at practice, and every time he's in the game right now.
04:03Yeah, he is.
04:03He's taking full advantage of it.
04:05But it might be.
04:06It's more than just on the field.
04:07You see this guy around the building.
04:09He always has his iPad, always studying, always trying to get better.
04:13So I'm really not surprised that we're seeing the success from Torrey Horton.
04:17McConnell still in a quarterback for Las Vegas.
04:19Sincere McCormick, his running back, fakes the handoff to him.
04:22It goes to Ian Thomas, and you called it a great tackle from D'Anthony Bell, fourth-year player who, man, he's got a great story.
04:32We'll get into it later in the broadcast, but a good tackle there by Bell.
04:35That's a great tackle by D'Anthony Bell.
04:36I know all the fans are like, I can make that tackle, but that's a very skilled tackle to happen.
04:41Open field as a DB against a running back, no help just besides the sideline, and make that tackle in the first play.
04:47That's a very skilled play and a very veteran play at the most.
04:50Absolutely.
04:51A couple of tackles already tonight.
04:53That one for Law, second and 11 here for Vegas.
05:04And we'll go back to McCormick, who is tied up just as he crosses the line of scrimmage.
05:09And the third and long for the Raiders.
05:11I picked Brandon.
05:11Sugar, how's it about to say?
05:13You know, I knew he was.
05:14He'll take his shots.
05:15I explained that in the pregame.
05:16I think he did a great job, right?
05:18As a defensive line, you want to be able to make a strong line where the offense line doesn't get much penetration.
05:24And it's an opportunity to make a routine tackle with linebackers, and everybody can swarm, and there's no place for the runner to go.
05:30It's a great play by Peely right there.
05:33Big body, too, man.
05:34That can move.
05:37Raiders 1-4 on third down conversion so far tonight.
05:41What are you laughing about?
06:07Well, because I'm laughing because Pete knew that Pete knew that the offense was in trouble.
06:12Pete knew about the fan base and understands not just the fan base, but that defense.
06:19There was some confusion up front.
06:21It's the multiple defenses that Mike McDonald throws at you that kind of caused that time.
06:27And I talked to Pete before the game, and the first thing he said, Mike, I want to see.
06:30I never felt what the 12s really feel like.
06:32I think it was something, but being on the other side, I want to see what the fan base really feels like.
06:38And that was one of the times.
06:39He felt it.
06:40You got to feel that, Pete.
06:41You got to feel that, Pete.
06:42That's a really good point.
06:45137 regular season wins as head coach of the Seahawks.
06:48And, of course, that lone Super Bowl title with the two guys beside me.
06:53You're welcome.
06:54Third and eight for Pete's new team.
06:56The Las Vegas Raiders.
07:01Pressure coming.
07:02And an interception.
07:04Nehemiah Pritchett with a second INT for the Seahawks tonight.
07:09Do you have a flag, though, in the backfield?
07:15Let's see if this one stands.
07:19Wow.
07:20This was a great job by this defense executing what they needed to execute.
07:26You got to show up a blitz on the left side.
07:28You actually bring it on the right side with trap coverage on the left side again.
07:32Mike McDonald is in his bag right now, and this is only the preseason game number one.
07:36I think this is base install, Mike.
07:38It is base install.
07:39The thing about it, though, is Aiden O'Connell.
07:41He was a seven-game starter last year, so he should know these blitzes and know where to put the ball at.
07:46So, as a veteran that's had a lot of time against great players, he should know how to make that throw.
07:51I think the basketball to play.
07:53However, after the play, let's go to the night's conduct.
07:56Seattle, again, the bench players clearing the one not in uniform.
08:00The 15-yard penalty from the other run, first down Seattle.
08:03So, he and Maya Pritchett following Josh Jobe's lead, Mike Ross.
08:08Absolutely.
08:09Second for the Seahawks.
08:10Third interception we already have in this first half.
08:12And second on a sportsmanlike penalty from the excitement from the sideline of the guys that aren't playing,
08:17just being excited about their guys making plays.
08:21That's culture right there, guys.
08:22We talk about teams being, building culture, a second-year head coach trying to establish their identity and culture.
08:29Well, when you see that all of the starters clear the bench for backup players to make plays,
08:34that is the definition of culture, Mike.
08:36Yeah, I don't know if that's a definition of culture, but that's a definition of something.
08:40I think that's a definition of a little bit of everything.
08:43It reminds me of when you guys were suiting up not too long ago.
08:48Absolutely.
08:49So, let's see if the Seahawks can take advantage of their second interception tonight.
08:55Locke, that's Martinez.
08:57A little to work with in the flat.
08:59It's a little shimmy-shake by Martinez out there.
09:01See, this is what I was just talking about before.
09:02Gary Kubiak is creating and designing these plays, these pass plays.
09:06Clint.
09:06Clint.
09:07Sorry.
09:08Gary was great.
09:09Gary was great.
09:09Sorry.
09:10But Clint has been able to design these plays, that pass plays that feels like runs,
09:14getting out to the flat really quick, open, and giving his runner a chance to be one-on-one
09:18with a defensive back, with a safety, with one linebacker, getting a chance to make them miss.
09:22These are, to me, these are great running plays, too, in my opinion.
09:26Absolutely, man.
09:27Getting your guys in space, forcing the defense to have to make a tackle.
09:30Here's Martinez with a chance to pick up the first down.
09:32Looked like he got close to it.
09:34Let's see where they spot this one.
09:35Got eight on that first down play.
09:37Just needed two on second.
09:39I think he got close to it right there, Kate.
09:41Yeah, it looked like it.
09:42Close to it, but again, good zone runner, and Damian Martinez did a great job in Miami
09:48last year, down there with Cam Ward.
09:51Now, just trying to find his way.
09:53For a virtual measurement.
09:57Okay.
09:58Got a measurement.
09:59Okay.
10:00Got our first virtual measurement tonight.
10:05Here, unfortunately, we're just getting word that we're having some technical difficulties,
10:10and there is no virtual measurement.
10:12We saw it, I'm sure some of you watching the Hall of Fame game last week, saw it.
10:16It's going to be a part of the NFL this year, very similar to those of you who also watch
10:21tennis, and the player can ask for, you know, a review, and everybody stops, and everybody
10:26in the stadium looks to the big board, because, again, it is a virtual measurement.
10:30So the referees, the humans, will spot the ball.
10:33Humans still have to spot the ball.
10:35I just, we have to let all of our viewers understand.
10:37Those poor humans, what are we going to do in three years?
10:39Yeah, Chad GPT, virtual, everything's like, you know, not a human.
10:43He's like, he's looking like he thinks of a virtual measurement, and there isn't one.
10:48We've got to stop the AI.
10:49They're taking over.
10:51Well, and here's the thing.
10:52I don't know if anyone has told Cleet and the crew about this technical difficulty.
10:56Okay.
10:57Well, nothing's worse.
10:58It's like somebody never tells you when the party's over.
10:59After virtual measurement, without video working, it's been termed the ball is short.
11:04I mean, third down, that's fine.
11:06So I will summarize for Cleet.
11:09Screw the robots.
11:10The humans say it's short.
11:11Yeah.
11:12Third and short.
11:13But, I mean, I don't know.
11:14I'm just so used to the chains coming out.
11:16If it's short, show me it's short.
11:17Yeah.
11:18We will look up to the big board now.
11:19There you go.
11:20In future games, when the technology is working.
11:23Got three tight ends there, going heavy are the Seahawks.
11:26And Locke will just follow his offensive line, who has looked really good in this first half
11:32for another Seahawks first down.
11:34Yeah, you see Jalen Sundell up up front.
11:38See big Christian Haynes pushing people, moving grown men completely off the football.
11:43That's that surge, Kate, that we talked about earlier at the beginning of the game.
11:48This Clint Kubiak offense, you want to see that initial six-inch two-foot surge.
11:52It's two-foot surge from that offensive line to get the run game going.
11:57Seahawks looking to build on their ten-point lead here.
12:00Final three minutes of this first half preseason opener for the Hawks and the Raiders.
12:06Go to his left.
12:08Locked to his tight ends, Elijah Arroyo.
12:12This kid's so fun to just watch him play, talking about Elijah Arroyo.
12:15I mean, that play right there, you would have thought Drew could just throw that ball out of bounds.
12:20I mean, that's not a dead play.
12:22But what he did was he threatened upfield and came back to give his quarterback a completion.
12:26Just to give his quarterback, I mean, that's a veteran type of a play right there.
12:30Great job by Elijah Arroyo.
12:33Locked with a touchdown.
12:35And 140 yards passing so far.
12:38Arroyo's second reception tonight.
12:42Martinez, deep in the backfield, lock on her center.
12:48Handed off to Martinez.
12:49Headed right, got a flag in the backfield.
12:52Lots of flags.
12:53And that's Michael Barrett, the former Seattle Seahawks, now a Raider.
12:57Holding on the top.
12:58Offense number 61.
12:59Ten-yard penalty.
13:00We play second down.
13:02All right, so that's Jalen Sundell.
13:06Yeah, got Jalen right there.
13:08Who's entrenched right now in a position battle at center and at guard.
13:14Again, he's had a great camp.
13:17Just kind of overextended right there on the wide zone.
13:21And held on.
13:22It looks like Olu Olua Timmy is probably going to be the starting center for the Seahawks.
13:27But as you mentioned, Sundell has been going toe-to-toe with Olu.
13:33He's looking to start maybe at right guard.
13:35Absolutely.
13:36The more you can do, the more you can do, Mike B., the more you can play.
13:40Exactly, man.
13:41Exactly.
13:42Versatility is key.
13:45This is a two-minute warning.
13:49Winding down, and that is our two-minute warning.
13:51So, Drew Locke and the Seahawks with a ten-point lead over the Las Vegas Raiders here at Lumen Field.
13:58Two minutes to go in our first half.
14:07Seahawks football is brought to you by the Muckleshoot Casino, the biggest and best in the Northwest.
14:13Seahawks lead it at the two-minute warning, 13-3 over the Raiders.
14:17Cliff Averill and I will be back for the halftime show in just a few.
14:21Kate and the Mikes coming back.
14:24All right, Paul.
14:26Thank you so much.
14:27And I know we were talking about Cleet earlier, looking like he's been pushing some plates in the gym.
14:32Yeah.
14:33Yeah.
14:34Paul's suit is looking a little tighter this year, too.
14:36Paul been in the gym?
14:37Oh, he's just been at the lunch table.
14:39Just a little bit of both.
14:40He's on the crew team.
14:41Yeah.
14:42That's fired.
14:43Come on.
14:44Oh, man.
14:45I'm messing with him.
14:46Paul Sylvie and Cliff Averill will be having our halftime in just a minute.
14:50There's Sam Darnold, Cooper Cupp, Michael Bennett, Michael Robinson, Kate Scott up here in the booth with you.
14:56Appreciate you all tuning in however and wherever you are.
14:5913-3 Seahawks.
15:00Two minutes to go in this first half.
15:02Drew Locke has been the quarterback for the entire half of the Seahawks.
15:05No Sam Darnold tonight.
15:06Locke does well again.
15:08Thought he connected to lose his wide out.
15:11But a sensational hit.
15:13Cody White was the intended receiver.
15:16And Caillou Blue Kelly popped it.
15:19Yeah, Caillou timed it out right.
15:22Knocked the ball out.
15:24But if you saw after the play and everybody thought it was a fumble, Christian Haynes is just knocking people out.
15:31Talk about setting the setting the tone for the offense.
15:34I know that was incomplete, but that was a beautiful play by Drew Locke.
15:37It was.
15:38Because I think being able to come in and come up there, then he had the sidestep with the side arm.
15:42That was a perfect play by him.
15:44Seahawks seven for nine on third down so far tonight.
15:49See how Locke does here.
15:52Over the middle to Damian Martinez.
15:55Will not get close to the first down.
15:57Needed to get it to the 21.
15:59We'll see about the 30.
16:00Matt Jones and Michael Barrett there for the Raiders.
16:05Let's see if...
16:06Las Vegas takes its first time out of the half.
16:08It's the 32nd time.
16:10Looks like the Seahawks will send their kicking team out there.
16:14Yeah, looks like Las Vegas is trying to get an opportunity for possibly a two-minute drive.
16:19This is preseason.
16:20You got to work on situational football, Mike.
16:23Yeah.
16:24Every situation.
16:25You want to see how guys do in different moments and see when there's a critical moment in the real season.
16:31Will guys be able to sustain, make the right plays, know what's happening, what's going on with the referee, what should we call, what down is it, how do we respond.
16:39So I think this is a great...
16:40You got to call those timeouts in those moments.
16:42Yeah, you do.
16:43And I know whenever back in the day we used to be in two-minute mode and the defense maybe was out on the field.
16:48I already knew at least the first play Mike Bennett is jumping off sides.
16:52Just one.
16:53He's going to give you one.
16:54Can you just let that go?
16:55No, I can't.
16:56Just let it go.
16:57No, I can't, bro.
16:58Please.
16:59Let's get back to that, boys, after this.
17:02Jason Myers, 48-yard attempt.
17:04I'm one of the top 50 players at all times.
17:07Seven of eight between 40 and 49 last year.
17:11Definitely has the distance.
17:13Oh, got in there.
17:14And it is up and through for Jason Myers.
17:18And it is 16-3, Seahawks.
17:22You guys can resume fighting now if you'd like to.
17:24Or we can talk about the football game.
17:26Let's talk about the football game.
17:28I'll tell you one thing.
17:29One thing I've been impressed with with our Seattle Seahawks here in this first half is just the line of scrimmage aggressiveness.
17:37They are owning the line of scrimmage on both offense and defense.
17:40Offensively, that's that surge that we talk about that's required in the run game.
17:45And on defense, they're attacking the line of scrimmage.
17:48Whether it's a ball carrier carrying the football from the home position at the running back position
17:53or whether it's the quarterback dropping back.
17:55This defense, this team, is attacking the line of scrimmage.
17:58And I agree with you.
17:59I think also what you're seeing, too, I think last year with the office and defense, there was a little bit of confusion.
18:04Right now you're seeing people who are astute and know exactly what to do on both sides.
18:08The office is looking really like the offensive line.
18:11Nowhere's happened in the defensive line.
18:13The secondary.
18:14Everybody kind of has fell into love with what they're doing.
18:17They're falling into love with the culture that Mike is building this year.
18:20They're drinking the Kool-Aid.
18:21They're drinking the Kool-Aid.
18:22Still in lobby.
18:23We'll take a knee.
18:24Second year player out of New Hampshire.
18:26So out to the 35 it comes.
18:27Well, it's interesting you bring that up, Mike B, because one of the things that a number of guys
18:30on offense for the Seahawks have mentioned so far in camp is there's just, even though we're still learning this new scheme,
18:36there's a clarity in the scheme that has been really easy for us to understand.
18:41Yeah, that becomes super hard as a player, right?
18:43That clarity.
18:44That understanding.
18:45Knowing where you're supposed to be.
18:46How you're supposed to be there.
18:47Not just knowing what you're doing, but what the guy next to you is doing.
18:50How the office is going to attack us and how the defense is going to attack us, too.
18:53So that's what makes it very complicated in understanding who the office coordinator is and what's his DNA.
18:59The same as the head coach.
19:00I just want to point out, even though you can't see it at home, Marshawn Lynch is FaceTiming us right now.
19:05Yeah.
19:06He's trying to get me to talk.
19:08Marshawn, we're trying to, we're trying to call a football game.
19:11And that is a sensational catch by Alex Bachman.
19:16Diving, laying full out for that one.
19:18There's a flag in the backfield.
19:20This might be coming back.
19:25Holding.
19:26Offense.
19:27Number 60.
19:2810-yard penalty.
19:29We play first down.
19:31Bachman, understandably frustrated, because that was a sensational effort on his part.
19:36It's the rookie, Charles Grant.
19:39Yeah.
19:40There's Marshawn.
19:41He's FaceTiming us right now.
19:42He's on the phone.
19:43One minute, 34 seconds.
19:44And that's Ron.
19:45That's Ron Ma, great Seahawks photographer next to him.
19:51Marshawn, we're on television.
19:53We're trying to work here.
19:54We're trying to work just a little bit.
19:56You know what I'm saying?
19:57But Kay, I know 37 Williams is so happy that that play was called back, because he didn't,
20:02he didn't touch the guy.
20:03The guy got back up.
20:04I guess he thought he was down.
20:05And that happens a lot, doing training camp, because you're never on full-on tackle.
20:08Now you get out here, you've got to make sure you get the guy down, because that could have been bad.
20:12First and long, O'Connell to the other sideline, and would have been a tremendous catch if Colin Johnson made it, but it was deflected.
20:23So, Nehemiah Pritchett.
20:24Again, audience, one of the interceptions for the Seahawks in this first half line.
20:28Again, look how patient he is at the line of scrimmage.
20:31Understanding he has to close the distance between himself and the wide receiver.
20:36Gets his eyes back, puts his arm up.
20:39Great play by Nehemiah Pritchett.
20:41And that was one of the question marks.
20:42There's not that many question marks on this Seahawks defense, but who are going to be the third and fourth quarterbacks?
20:47Absolutely.
20:48And Job and Nehemiah Pritchett are certainly making a case so far tonight.
20:53Yes, they are.
20:54O'Connell, over the middle, connecting with Kadir Ismail.
20:59Another one of his tight ends.
21:01They've got a lot of them in Vegas, and they want to go quick, understandably.
21:04And they're going tempo.
21:051.15 to go in this first half.
21:06Yes, and tempo is going to test this defense's communications in this two-minute drive.
21:13O'Connell looking for Bachman on the outside.
21:16He's got it close to the 48-yard line.
21:18That's good for a first down.
21:19Well, this is what it becomes very interesting, right?
21:21Because on the defensive line and linebackers, the outside linebackers, we know the players.
21:25In the secondary, we know the players.
21:27I think the linebackers is where we need the stars to start to be growing from there.
21:31Before, Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright, it's like, we have Ernest, we have some other guys, but we don't really know them that well.
21:36And if you look at how teams are attacking right now, it's going right down the middle to see what the linebacker plays are.
21:42Previous play is under review.
21:46All right, so we'll take another look.
21:48Make sure that was a catch by Bachman.
21:51Make sure it's a catch.
21:52So what you're trying to say about the linebackers?
21:54I'm just saying that somebody needs to emerge as a star.
21:57You know, somebody needs to emerge as the leader, that guy, because it's good that the defensive line is kind of the rah-rah guys.
22:03And it's good that the secondaries could come down and hit.
22:05But it's really about the linebackers coming down and being the ones who they call the play, set the front, being able to do the tempos.
22:12They're the ears and arms and the legs of the defensive coordinators.
22:16That's out, Mike.
22:17Oh, that's out.
22:18That's out.
22:19I mean, I think he caught the football, but he never actually got down.
22:25Oh, they're talking about this play.
22:26I was looking at another one.
22:28Oh, that's tough.
22:29I don't think he got that first down.
22:30That was a good tackle.
22:31That was a good rugby tackle.
22:33Shoulder on him.
22:34Being able to drive your feet.
22:35That's what you want to see from tacklers.
22:37Really, every young person that's watching football right now, stop ducking your head.
22:41Use your shoulders and use your pads, because if you don't, you will be injured.
22:45Tackle, there's nothing wrong with putting a little pop or a little sting on a big play in the football league.
22:51That's what we're here for.
22:52We don't got him to hide from him.
22:53We got him because we need him.
22:54Because we need him, Mike.
22:56Even though I didn't wear any.
22:57You didn't wear any shoulder pads.
22:59That was just your shoulders out there, man.
23:01Have I mentioned that I missed you guys?
23:03We missed you two days.
23:04It's good to see you.
23:05It's good to see you.
23:06It's good to see you.
23:07Always.
23:08Missed your passion.
23:09After review, the receiver was down inbounds.
23:12Therefore, in this situation, the clock was at 1.06 at the time, so we're going to run 10 seconds from there at 56 seconds on the game clock.
23:2430 seconds.
23:25Let's take one more look.
23:29Hands on top of DeAnthony Bell.
23:31Yeah, but I think they're saying his shin right there down.
23:35That's a good call.
23:36Good call.
23:37I think it's a great call.
23:38It is.
23:39I'm not one to say refs have good calls, but that was a great call.
23:42So they run 10 off the clock.
23:43So 56 now for the Raiders trying to get on the scoreboard one more time before halftime.
23:49McConnell looking back shoulder and just couldn't get enough on us.
23:53Looking once again for Colin Johnson.
23:55They're going to connect at some point tonight, but not just yet.
23:58Well, I know the last play before the back throw.
24:01We didn't go back to the D line, but Mike Morris and the rest of the D line right there put a lot of pressure being able to come from the middle.
24:07I think this is Mike's year to step up as a player before he's kind of been wishy-washy where where he's supposed to be.
24:13But I'm starting to see confidence the way he played when he was at Michigan.
24:17Mike Morris stays after every single practice.
24:20He works on his body.
24:22He's really showing that he wants to be a part of this team.
24:26Second and ten.
24:28Pocket collapsing.
24:29Nice forward find.
24:30The defensive line for the Seahawks there.
24:33Tyreek Smith called his name a lot.
24:35And I know you're going to say, Mike, no, not the D line, but I'm going to say the pressure right here, right here.
24:39Being able to take a tackle, push him into the quarterback, collapse on the pocket.
24:43And this is a quarterback who's playing a lot of big games.
24:46So being able to push the run at the tackle and get there and put pressure on him, make him uncomfortable.
24:52No quarterback wants to do that.
24:54You saw his face.
24:55Like, he won't like it.
24:56But he had a little tenderness and scare in his face like he's been cooking the stew all day with the pot roast.
25:02Tyreek Smith on the pass rush right there.
25:05Las Vegas one for five on third down conversion so far tonight.
25:11Forty seven seconds to go in our first half.
25:16O'Connell finally does connect with Colin Johnson.
25:21And he gets down close to that first down marker.
25:23Clock still running.
25:24Yep, they're going to move the sticks.
25:28Las Vegas still with a little life here.
25:30Thirty seconds now to go.
25:38Inside handoff to McCormick.
25:40Takes it down close to the 40.
25:45It's a good situational football.
25:47Las Vegas takes his third and final timeout.
25:50It's the eight-thirty-second timeout.
25:52Las Vegas took another timeout.
25:54Looks like they're trying to get some points on the board before the half.
25:57That's a Pete Carroll thing.
25:59He wants to get points on the half and then steal points.
26:02They can get the ball the next half.
26:05And then for Aiden O'Connell, I think this is good for him, right?
26:07Because just because you're number two on the depth chart doesn't mean that they're continuously not looking for the quarter to back the back of Geno Smith.
26:13I think we've seen him last year make some good plays on the less talented offense.
26:18But this year there's a new scheme and peace believing in him.
26:21This opportunity to be a quarterback who can make the tough throws.
26:24And he's been taking a pounder tonight and being able to get back up and throw the ball play after play.
26:29For a new man out of Purdue.
26:31This new Chip Kelly offense.
26:33The sideline just out of the reach of Colin Johnson.
26:49Yeah, throwing on your back foot is really hard as a quarterback.
26:52And I think right there if he had a chance to set his feet, go through his progression, step into it, that would have been a better throw.
26:58But for him the pressure's been coming all night.
27:00So he's seeing ghosts everywhere like Patrick Swayze, right?
27:03So at this moment he's like, I know where the guy's supposed to be.
27:06Let me just get the ball there.
27:07And it becomes very hard as a quarterback with the crowd, with everybody going.
27:11So just stepping to it and being able to make that throw.
27:14The routine plays become harder and harder when pressure's coming at you as a quarterback.
27:18Patrick Swayze.
27:19He brought, he brought, he sways into an NFL broadcast.
27:22Yeah.
27:23I watched ghosts.
27:24That's his first time out of the half.
27:26The 32nd time out.
27:27Oh, it was bad.
27:28It's kind of a weird movie when you think about it.
27:30It's like, is it?
27:31Yeah.
27:32When he got like channeling it through somebody else and it was just whoopee go bird.
27:34There's a lot going on.
27:36I love you, Mike.
27:37I missed you, bro.
27:38You missed you.
27:39We missed you.
27:40So 18 seconds to go.
27:44And this is what coaches love in the preseason, you guys, right?
27:47Like situations like this that you're going to see in the regular season, they're going to be important,
27:53whether it's clock management, whether it's two minute drill.
27:56Let's see what this Seahawks defense can do.
27:59Coach McDonald was fired up right there, man.
28:02That's the intensity.
28:03And that's what we talked about.
28:04He's making the mark that this is his team now.
28:08It's good to see.
28:10Brandon Peely.
28:12Tyreek Smith.
28:15Connor O'Toole.
28:20Waiters need seven on this third down.
28:27Connor quickly outside and matches made, but not going to get it.
28:33Connecting with Ismael.
28:35One of his side ends.
28:36It's going to be short.
28:37Raiders will go for it.
28:38It appears they're going to go for the field goal here.
28:40Daniel Carlson is out.
28:41Mayday, mayday, mayday.
28:4255.
28:43That is going to come up short and outside.
28:57Yeah, I think he left his leg in Vegas.
28:59That was completely short.
29:00That wasn't close.
29:01Yeah, that wasn't close.
29:02Yeah, right, yeah.
29:03You have to crack table.
29:04He did that.
29:05It just wasn't enough, you know.
29:07It was a good idea, but just bad execution.
29:11So the defense holds for Mike McDonald and the Seattle Seahawks, despite a little frustration on McDonald's face.
29:19Yeah, he looked like he was getting after the referees.
29:21He's been getting after them at practice, too, so.
29:24I think this is where we remind Mike in the defense, hey, two interceptions by the Seahawks defense in that first half.
29:31And a 16-3 lead over the Las Vegas Raiders in both teams' preseason opener tonight here in beautiful Seattle, Washington.
29:39Stay with us, Paul and Cliff, bringing you to halftime right after this.
30:11The first half is in the books in Seattle at Lewin Field
30:35as the Seahawks lead at 16-3 at halftime
30:38as we continue here on the halftime show
30:40with Cliff Averill and Cliff you look at some of the numbers from the first half
30:43and the Seahawks you know a pretty evenly matched half there
30:48except for third downs really pretty impressive third down conversion for the Seahawks
30:52yeah and that's huge right yeah you don't want to get you don't want to come off the field
30:56so allowing the guys to be able to you know continue to keep moving the ball on third down
31:00is always a positive now of course you want to keep running the ball a little bit better
31:04you want to run the ball a little bit better and of course score touchdowns
31:07all right let's talk about running the football Gray Zabel Abe Lucas a couple of those guys on the
31:10offensive line had a couple of drives in this game Gray Zabel in particular pretty dominant
31:15no doubt and I'm not one to like offensive linemen you know being a defensive line
31:19but I am impressed with him and what he's been able to do
31:22you know just seeing him move guys off the ball kind of paying attention being attentive to the detail
31:28obviously there's you know they're running the ball really well
31:31but one thing that stuck out to me was watching him on the sideline when he was done
31:34and it was out of the game
31:36seeing him coach up some of the other young players
31:38so to me that shows a lot of leadership characteristics right there
31:41and he also wants those guys to get better so that was pretty impressive
31:44that was interesting to see him pushing some guys around up there in the trenches
31:47and the Raiders getting a little frustrated and doing some holding and things like that on the defense side of the ball
31:52and you know I mean you're forced into some frustration when you're playing a guy who's so solid fundamentally this early in his career
31:58no doubt no doubt
32:00I mean you know you got a young player that's moving some of these veteran players off the ball
32:03and it's preseason you get a little mad
32:06you know you want to do some different things
32:08so that's where some of these penalties start to play a role in the game
32:12but again for him I think it's just huge to see him feel confident
32:16especially having the other guys around him
32:18because on the offensive line they're a unit
32:20and when you build confidence with the other guys next to you
32:23it only gets better
32:24let's look ahead to the second half
32:26Jalen Milrow expected to start a quarterback
32:28and we're going to see some interesting things from him
32:30because he has so many intangibles to offer
32:32no I agree I'm looking forward to it
32:34you know of course everybody wants to see him run around
32:36but watching him in practice and seeing how well he throws the ball as well
32:40I think it's going to be huge
32:41so him being able to show both dynamics
32:44you know for the first time is going to be pretty cool to see
32:47yeah I would imagine that this game picks up a lot of speed here
32:50as he gets into his first NFL action
32:52no doubt no doubt
32:53but it still starts with the running game though
32:55to alleviate him from having to use his leg
32:57alleviate him from having to you know throw the ball
33:00I think they have to keep that running game going
33:02and then I think him getting fun getting into it
33:05I think it's going to be pretty cool
33:06a lot to look forward to in the second half here at Lumen Field
33:09again the Seahawks lead it 16 to 3
33:12let's go back upstairs now to Kate and the Mikes
33:14and the Mikes all right you too great stuff at halftime the Mikes
33:19that's hilarious it's just easier to refer to you guys as one person
33:23what he's talking about is Michael Robinson
33:24Michael Bennett Super Bowl champions for the Seattle Seahawks
33:28something I know the Seahawks when I do this year
33:30really get into that place where they have the great offense the great defense and the great players
33:35who bring back that Lombardi because nothing's greater than grabbing that Lombardi as a player and holding it
33:41and you represent a city
33:43and you hold that trophy and you might hold it like a baby
33:46you just might hold it like if I hold it like a baby
33:48yeah
33:49well and going off of that might be
33:52Mike McDonald's Pete Carroll both of these teams and franchises
33:56looking to refine their dominant ways right
33:58the Seahawks got close Mike McDonald's leading his team to 10 wins in his first season
34:04most wins by a first year head coach ever in Seattle
34:07Raiders coming off that dismal 4-13 season last year hoping that Pete
34:11and Gino and Jamal Adams and some other guys that we know here in Seattle
34:16can help them find some stability and build a new founding in Las Vegas that they can then
34:21build from and get back to their winning ones
34:23absolutely you think about Las Vegas they've just been so down and so bad for so long
34:28I was talking to coach Carroll before the game I'm like coach just your presence is going to be a positive thing
34:34because you know the positivity that Pete brings to every building he comes into
34:38and then you look at on the other side and Mike McDonald
34:41you can visibly see him taking ownership of this particular year's squad so it's always a good thing to see
34:49speaking of taking ownership let's see what we get from the rookie
34:52Jalen Milrow heading off to Jaquardier Wright another rookie out of Missouri State
34:59see this run works because Jalen is out there I mean every time you know Sam's there or Drew's there
35:06like they don't have that second thing to say maybe he might run but they know if he pulls the ball
35:10there's an opportunity to take it to the house
35:12you see 99 right there 99 went straight to the quarterback the defensive end went straight to
35:16the quarterback that opened up the lane for the running back you're absolutely right Mike
35:20I know I'm right
35:24thank you though
35:24it was Jaquardier you're right again 24 year old rookie
35:28Missouri State's and this is the rookie out of Bama Jalen Milrow
35:33might have had a holding in the backfield and a flag in the backfield but that's that's a flash
35:37Mike B of Milrow's wounds see this is what I'm talking about when you go back to having Russell
35:42Wilson in that first year being able to run and change the game with his legs
35:48uh-oh so I think that's mode beast mode has joined us in the booth we might have to find
35:52another headset we'll get to that keep going Mike no I think when you have this breakdown of the office
35:56of Lyon you know Gino couldn't run the way because there's times where Gino did break the pocket
36:01and there's times where Drew broke the pocket but now having Jalen in the game is a whole nother
36:05different type of dynamic dynamic the ability to run pass and be a threat at every single level
36:11that's what you get this kid's special
36:14it's Seattle penalty tonight
36:19get him the guest headset back there the spare head yeah see if he can get on there yeah we got
36:24Jake Bobo with the reception Milrow out to Bobo the 27-yard line but still well behind the sticks
36:32Mike Brown but to your point Mike B you know I classify these movement quarterbacks as runners
36:37with passing ability or passers with running ability Russell our old quarterback he was a passer with
36:43running ability right Jalen Milrow's in the mode in the mode of a Lamar Jackson he's in the mode of a
36:48Cam Newton meaning that he's a runner with special passing ability and oftentimes when you get runners
36:55with special passing ability you got to get a quarterback run early on in the game to get these guys into the
37:01game I think that's why you saw Jalen scramble her yeah and there's a defensive lineman when you have these
37:06quarterback run option plays between the running back and he's gonna pull usually you might just run down take
37:12and get the runner but in this moment it stops your feet and what does that do when the offensive line starts to spread from that tackle
37:17it starts to create a big old gap and that opportunity as a defensive line you don't know what to do at that moment
37:22you like do I get the quarterback do I get the running back and then unfortunately when you have a good at both
37:26it becomes super complicated for them to be able to throw 3rd and 14 Milrow is looking to the far side
37:33and it's broken up nicely second big play tonight for this guy number 36 for the Raiders Caillou blue Kelly
37:39yeah Caillou has made a couple plays out here tonight
37:42you see him right there one-on-one with Derrick Young
37:46Derrick just trying to do a comeback ball a little bit inside
37:50it's a break up of the play good thing it was an incompletion and not going the other way
37:58did have three interceptions two by the Seahawks one by the Raiders in the first half
38:02so expect to see more
38:05here comes a punt for Michael Dixon
38:08wobbly punt to Dillon Lowbey and gets it up to the 35-yard line before he's taking the turn
38:23so that is where this next Raider possession will begin Raiders looking up at a 16-3 deficit
38:32and have the football when we come back
38:40welcome back to Seattle it is Raider football and it sounds like Cliff
38:45Sam Darnold's down on the sideline Cliff take it away
38:48my man Sam so hey new city new coach how's that transition going it's been great
38:56from the moment I got here really just to be able to get in the building
38:59meet everyone you know from you know John
39:04you know all the way to you know EK in the training room like it's just been amazing man
39:08the players have welcomed me guys who have been here for you know years guys who have just got here with me as well
39:15so it's been amazing man just the and the welcome that I've gotten from the fans being around Seattle
39:21it's just been amazing so far now from office you you obviously played in a system like this
39:26what identity do you think you guys need to have to have some success this year yeah I think the biggest
39:31thing in being Clint's offense is just running the football right I feel like that's the biggest thing
39:35always is just being able to attack the line of scrimmage with the run game play action game running some
39:40keepers off of that and the drop back pass game will come off of that and I think that'll
39:46that'll be our identity so far this year but you know as you know it takes a few games to really
39:51understand what you are as an offense but so far in training camp I feel like that's that's kind of
39:56our identity so far that's good now we were just talking about this off air talking about the fans
40:01here the 12s for the preseason game I mean how how crazy is it for a preseason game to get this type of
40:08feeling I mean this is unbelievable man just to hear these these fans on third downs in the first
40:14preseason game of the year you know you got the other team having to use silent count in the preseason
40:20it's amazing just to have these guys finally on my side and man it's there's nothing like it
40:25my last one for you so you know the last few years you played with and underneath a lot of different
40:31quarterbacks what's some of the different traits and things that you picked up over the years that
40:37has allowed you have some success last year and moving forward yeah I think there's a lot I think you
40:41know when I was younger I think you know I felt like I knew how to prepare but
40:46you know I spent so many hours in the film room and doing these things whereas like
40:51you know sometimes you feel like listen to this this is crazy but sometimes you I feel like you
40:57don't understand you don't know what you don't know and I think for me going to San Francisco
41:02even just learning I know fans probably don't like to hear this but learning from Brock a little bit
41:06too just the way that he prepared every single day and in that coaching staff over there and then
41:12obviously what we did in Minnesota learning from that coaching staff um I've been able to learn a
41:16ton um in the last couple years and I feel like those experiences um have only helped me grow as a
41:22quarterback that's good stuff man thank you man we're looking forward to seeing how you get down this
41:26year yes sir good stuff indeed great work cliff and good stuff from Aiden O'Connell finding his rookie
41:34tight end out of Towson Carter Runyon on that previous play for a 20-yard gain and we'll get back to that same
41:40Darnold conversation because I want to get back to it but I want to give the Raiders offense the
41:44respect they deserve because they're driving down the football field by now yes they are and it
41:48started kind of with some play action passing explosives by Aiden O'Connell ah thanks beast mode that was a
41:54great massage I appreciate it my John's still up here
42:01O'Connell
42:02O'Connell has looked like a different quarterback on this drive and dealing with Justin Shorter
42:09third year wide out out of Florida and they are knocking knocking on the door now guys well yeah
42:14I think what you see in Aiden O'Connell do up and down his field is attack the middle of the field with the
42:19linebackers inside the numbers being able to either hit those close seams right there but he's not really
42:24testing the outside the corners he's just testing the middle of the field right now which each level the
42:28second level the linebackers they're being able to have at least one stop and hopefully they do it
42:33right now he's decisive Mike you can see it right there Dillon Albee diving for the pylon and he is in
42:41touchdown Raiders what a drive for Las Vegas it's just like I said once again they're clearing the field
42:47getting the linebackers one-on-one with a back out the field it's just getting harder and harder the
42:52linebackers got to be able to see what's happening and understand how they're being attacked
42:56attacked and adjust to it and I think that series right there through all of it they weren't able to
43:01do that again as we watch the replay right here just Aiden O'Connell just being decisive right
43:06the back gets a step on the linebacker uh Drake Thomas and you put a foot outside of his
43:12front number and lead him into the end zone just being decisive is what got the touchdown and also
43:17as a linebacker a defensive lineman you start to see where the running back is lined up if he's inside
43:22you're thinking he's going to go up the field and a corner but when he starts to get outside of that
43:26tackle you got to know that he's going to the flats so a good start to this second half for that guy
43:32Aiden O'Connell and Las Vegas Raiders Dillon Albee the New Hampshire product into the end zone
43:38at a game here in Seattle Seahawks football is presented by Washington's Lottery when you play
43:50Washington's Lottery you're helping fund the pursuit of dreams through college and career training
43:56you saw Marshawn Lynch taking photos on the field earlier now he's up in the booth with us trying to
44:01learn from Michael Robinson and Michael Bennett who are beside me up here Kate Scott appreciate you all
44:06being with us and that guy congratulations to number 23 Dillon Albee seven plays 65 yards and then
44:13that six yard touchdown catch to pull the Raiders within six third quarter here in Seattle
44:23one more bounce into the end zone another touch back curious to see how the slight change in the
44:30dynamic kickoffs work this year guys because last year was bringing it out to the 30 yep in an effort
44:36to again see more returns teams decided the 30 was fine wasn't that big of a deal so this year they've
44:41changed it to the 35 yard line so far tonight
44:48not not that big of a deal either no not that big of a deal but i i do think when we get into the season
44:54you're going to see teams be more strategic about where they kick the ball kick it about down to
45:00the goal line so that a team doesn't have the opportunity to down it you know well i'm actually
45:05happy i got a chance to see the deon sanders and all the great returners because i don't think we're
45:09going to see that anymore
45:13this is jalen milrose second series for the rookie out of alabama connecting with guess who if you couldn't
45:19tell from the flowing locks that is brady russell one of our favorite guys in the preseason last year
45:25absolutely brady russell one of my favorite players he can play fullback he can play tight end
45:30and one of the best special teams players not just mike in seattle but in the whole daggone football
45:36league man he looks like a wwe wrestler right now hey man you got old school right old school macho man
45:42randy savage oh yeah i was going to say who's going to do the oh yeah on air
45:47there we're on the inside hand option to cartier right no place to go that time
45:56no place to go right there driven my eye number 68 in white i had a opportunity to talk to brady
46:03russell on at the hotel earlier today he's like i hope i play the whole game i'm ready to go that's
46:09the energy that you want that's those are the type of players you want to build the foundation of your
46:14team with guys who will go and play no matter what stadium no matter what time no matter what time of
46:20the day mike mcdonald could not say enough about brady russell when we talked to him yesterday
46:25and what a run by the rookie out of missouri states jacardi a rights got a flag way back near the 35 yard line
46:43got a good block from guess who brady russell i'm home now we'll see this replay regardless let's hope it
46:49stands because i hope it stands because this was a 40 45 yard scamper might be oh my god it was just a
46:54beautiful play call you know being able to have those three tight ends lined up over there
46:59offense number 38
47:04okay let's see did brady holds let's see
47:07yeah he just shot his hands outside
47:18yeah can't do that so explain explain why guys for folks who are maybe just learning football
47:24well again when you put when you when you shoot your hands outside
47:27and the ball bounces outside of you the referee is going to see a hold almost no matter what
47:33right because as the defender tries to pull away because your arms are outside it's going to appear
47:38to be holding and that was holding we usually tell blockers shoot your hands inside and run your feet
47:43so if the if the referees see anything they just see you fighting for a position that's it yeah i think
47:49if he wouldn't have talked to you that might not have happened stop it mike
47:55let's let's see if maybe he can get it going once again that's john rice plumbly the motion man for
48:00the seahawks ricky white the third in for the first time tonight and with that movement
48:11this is the defender moved first right it doesn't matter it doesn't no it matters who they see
48:18that's a good point full start offense number 79
48:22five yard penalty go third down
48:24you know what k this is what's really this is close right here right this is let's see
48:30he flinches he flinches so when the the defense the defense did calls it did they did cause it but
48:36i think what happens with penalties they become contagious it's like one penalty one penalty you
48:40got to find a way to get out of that mindset and get mike we're not positive mike mike we're not talking
48:45there's been a lot of penalties okay but what does that have to do with the defense causing now
48:49okay okay we'll get back to here's milra breaks loose a one defender takes it out close to the
48:5625 yard line thomas booker the fourth doing good work for the las vegas defense there
49:04let's check this thing out here again double a gap month eight double a gap mug look
49:10everybody drops out jaylen sees nothing but white jerseys besides the running and get what he can
49:16again booker just coming over earlier this week in that trade with the eagles
49:22good work by four seven called his name a couple of times tonight already making an impact
