00:01This is an unbelievable opportunity.
00:05Lord Sugar's in the market for a brand new business partner.
00:10This process is not about a job, it's about me ploughing £250,000 into a business.
00:17Trust me, there are people in this room that are hungry for this deal.
00:22Here to do battle for his backing, 16 ambitious entrepreneurs.
00:28You told me you can do things you lot, you can't. You're all a bloody waste of space.
00:34At stake, a quarter million pound investment.
00:38And a 50-50 partnership with a business icon.
00:43I believe actions speak louder than words.
00:47You shut up, and you shut up, and you talk.
00:50Get the gear, get the gear.
00:52It's a deal worth fighting for.
00:54Make a decision, make a decision.
00:56I've been royally stitched up.
00:58Look at that.
01:00Sixteen potential business partners.
01:03Hold me tight.
01:04Why are you undermining me all the time?
01:05I'm not.
01:06Jason, will you be quiet, you silly shit?
01:09Twelve tough weeks.
01:11I don't understand what's going on.
01:12Big smiles!
01:13One life-changing opportunity.
01:15You're fired. You're fired.
01:17I don't want to see your face anymore.
01:19You're fired.
01:30Previously on The Apprentice.
01:32Your task is to help in finding certain items that are required for the opening of the hotel.
01:38A business trip to Dubai.
01:40Ten dirim, no, shake my hand, I'll give you the cash.
01:43To shop against the clock.
01:45I'm in a very, very rush.
01:46Well, you can put the map away, because I know Dubai like the back of my hand.
01:49Banking on Z's local knowledge, his team paid the price.
01:52Have you ever heard of Egyptian hood?
01:55No, no.
01:56That's worrying.
01:57He's talking crap.
01:58And on the other team.
01:59I'm going to find something.
02:00Don't stress yet.
02:01We've still got at least four hours to start stressing.
02:04Despite letting time tick by.
02:06That means they've wasted all day, not bought anything.
02:09Project manager Miles clocked his fifth successive win.
02:13Z went head-to-head with his girls.
02:15He seems to have an end for me right from the start.
02:18Have you got a problem working with women?
02:19Let me have it.
02:20I think you're getting a bit carried away now.
02:21No, I am not getting carried away at all.
02:22Natalie faltered.
02:23You said that I didn't have fashion.
02:25I was devastated, absolutely.
02:27No, you're here.
02:28You're bunny off a scratch in here.
02:29Because I like to work as a team.
02:30And what I don't see is you're doing anything out on task.
02:33But it was Z who was sent packing.
02:35You are to blame for this task.
02:37And Z, you're fired.
02:39And he became the fifth casualty of the boardroom.
02:42Now 11 remain to fight for the chance to become Lord Sugar's business partner.
02:55Hello?
02:56Good morning.
02:57Morning.
02:58This is Lord Sugar's office.

03:14Where are we going?
03:15Guildhall in the city.
03:16Once more under the breach, Boys?
03:29Wake up, everyone!
03:31Where are we going?
03:33Guildhall in the city.
03:38Once more, onto the breach, boys.
03:42Play five, won three, lost two.
03:44Not the greatest, so the last two, I've got to win this one.
03:47Get back on the horse.
03:49Leah, we can't lose this task.
03:51I really think we'll win this one.
03:53I can't afford to be in the boardroom again.
03:55I don't think I've stood out particularly in this last task,
03:58so I'm keen to show him what I'm capable of in this one.
04:02I think Rebecca's desperate to EPM,
04:04but I don't think she's got a clue.
04:06I still don't rate her.
04:28Guildhall.
04:30At the heart of the city since the 12th century.
04:38Today, the grand setting for glittering corporate gatherings.
04:42Good morning.
04:43Good morning.
04:44Good morning.
04:45Welcome to Guildhall.
04:46Guildhall.
04:47You are standing in the Great Hall here,
04:48which hosts the Lord Mayor's Banquet.
04:50It also hosts a lot of
04:53corporate events.
04:54And your task is all about that this week.
04:55You're going to put on what is known in corporate circles
04:57as the world.
04:58You are standing in the Great Hall here,
04:59which hosts the Lord Mayor's Banquet.
05:02It also hosts a lot of corporate events.
05:04And your task is all about that this week.
05:06You're going to put on what is known in corporate circles
05:08as an away day,
05:10you're going to be worrying about an away day.
05:11I've got you two clients who are going to give you a budget.
05:13And from that budget,
05:28you are going to provide entertainment or an event.
05:30And I will be judging the winner on the profit that you make,
05:33but also on the winning panel,
05:35you've got a budget for your favourite team.
05:36You've got two corporate clients.
05:37but also on the customer satisfaction this is not some jolly this is a business task
05:45where the client wants value for money right i think it's time to mix the teams up a bit
05:52now miles move over to endeavor leah you've been in the process for six weeks i think it's time
06:00for you to be the project manager francesca you've got experience in corporate events so you're going
06:07to be the project manager of evolve the team that makes the most amount of profit and delivers
06:14customer satisfaction will win and in the losing team one of you will be fired well i'll see you
06:21back in the boardroom in a couple of days time off you go thank you company away days worth one
06:31billion pounds a year motivating and entertaining employees is serious business each team has two
06:40days to create and run an event that meets the brief of a major corporate client p.m at last i'm glad i
06:48held out and i intelligently pulled back from some other tasks boasting top business skills project
06:54manager francesca i am mrs corporate i'm really anti-corporate i hate the corporate world the
07:01boring black suits i'm not into corporate jargon i think it's boring the people are done
07:08good to have you back miles high five well then buddy nice to see you again good to be back leah she
07:14had a bit of a point to prove on the last task if she lets us all do what we do best
07:18we'll win this task if she tries to boss and dictate we won't before meeting their clients
07:25both teams brainstorm ideas i've been to these types of days and i believe that we've just got
07:31to have a clear theme throughout the day out to get top marks neil my kind of ideas of things that
07:37i've done in the past maybe the school days thing where you would then do a sports day in there like
07:42the sack race and you do the egg and spoon race we'll make more profit because i think we can spend less
07:47my personal one would have been history taking them back in time we can make it majestic we can
07:51make it fun we can make it wonderful everybody has been to school not everybody is into history you
07:57could even say to the client ask everyone to to wear a school-based st trinian's you know
08:05on the other team themes that do really work in the corporate world you've got things like vegas you've
08:11got bonds you've got moulin rouges also thinking through themes francesca i'm personally torn between
08:18either luxury or school yeah i like the back to school thing i really really like back to school
08:23okay so moving on with that then i'm happy to be project manager on this one although i'm not
08:28technically an event organizer i do supply to events and kind of know what people like to see at an event
08:33so of all the tasks so far this is the perfect one for me school theme fixed next come up with
08:39corporate team building tasks why don't we choose wine tasting in terms of the wine tasting i think
08:44the only way it's going to fit with our theme if it's like a clandestine like don't get caught by the
08:49teachers thing because it doesn't fit with school with client budgets of five thousand pounds i think
08:55chocolate making i do classes in cupcake making which is really similar to chocolate making balance quality
09:02with cost and there's profit to be made but we don't want to to stinge and make it a cheap event
09:08why would we try the chocolate making when i can do something which i do in my everyday life
09:13and we've just saved nearly a thousand pounds i'm more than happy to take controlled numbers because
09:17in my mind this is actually about profit right listen please stop talking oh can we just stop talking
09:21over i want you to go specifically because you know what you can do and have a look yeah i don't
09:26want to do everything diy and end up with a cheap product at the end of the day i agree okay that's
09:32i don't think frowns are very good p.m the chocolate making i still think it's a waste of time
09:37she set herself up to fail already she never says anything with conviction she'll say things like
09:42you know i'll do this guys but i don't take responsibility you know
09:47i think classic history stronger it's not fun still struggling with themes leah's team with the
09:57history theme i would go with the archery um it's you know it's cheap in an english lawn game it
10:03sounds boring who wanted schools now i think i want schools your project manager it's four against
10:10two but it's your call guys i'm sorry i'm calling this i really i really can't go with schools on this
10:16it's history that's the thing that i'm going with i'm worried i'm really i'm really worried that
10:20this is can i just have everyone backing me on this we're going with history you're booking archery
10:25archery and lawn games leah has been in the boardroom complaining to lord sugar that she hasn't followed
10:30her gut instinct well she's done that today she's gone with the theme of history much against the majority
10:35of her team regardless of the logic of the decision loads of contact neil call me let's go
10:41leah has made the selfish decision which is a selfish decision because it's what she wants it's
10:47not what the team thinks is myself clear that i've been to numerous of these events and i know what
10:52works it's my mental midday while half the teams head off to arrange activities the rest meet their
11:01clients hello hello for francesca online travel giant lastminute.com our ethos has always been the same
11:10five-star experiences for three-star prices and to be successful we have to be able to collaborate
11:15and communicate quickly and efficiently just bear in mind that we're a business we have business
11:19objectives and to achieve that single objective they have to work together together there's supposed
11:23to be business value in this collaboration communication getting them working together as a
11:28team it's not jolly it's lovely to meet you kathy thank you 12 30 pm canary wharf waiting the boss of
11:39barclays uk retail banking leah honestly listen running late i'm not trying to undermine you i'm not trying
11:47to do anything i swear leah's half of the team we really have had this conversation we just focus on history now please
12:02guys your client's waiting
12:10hello hi how are you my name's liam you obviously had a big hectic morning it was indeed that it was and
12:16you know the traffic wasn't great coming over that's why we're slightly late um so can you tell me
12:22what you're hoping to get from the event the idea is that with all these changes in technology our branch
12:29managers have to actually significantly improve their listening and communication skills if this team
12:36building session which you'll do tomorrow really works we're going to take it out to 35 000 people
12:42oh wow so the impact of what you do is huge okay so we've got some ideas the first one is a historic
12:52medieval theme providing escapism majestic medieval um outdoor lawn games with you know very classic hot
13:02food during the day um and just go with a classic medieval you know majestic escapism theme
13:09you know honestly uh look i'm not here to solve this assignment for you i'm what i think imagine and i
13:18are really looking for is your fresh perspective to this very very important that you keep the objective
13:24in mind understanding and listening to customers better thank you very much
13:29i actually was surprised at how not fun yeah you know came through it's quite a serious thing by all accounts
13:46hertfordshire
13:49targeting archery for their medieval theme day leah's boys
13:54the aim maximize profit by squeezing the price what's the what's the cost of it'll be 400.
14:04first to shoot neil could we do it at 320. that's really tight for me say 330. i can't go any higher
14:14than 320. it's 20 pounds a head if you can't do that i understand costs um i understand if you can't do
14:19if you can do it we will book that with you okay then we'll do 3. 320 thank you very much hello
14:30the good news is we managed to negotiate them down let me talk to you neil before you go any further
14:35there is a massive emphasis in here on teaching these people how to communicate effectively looking at that
14:41we tried to come up with a theme that we could run throughout the day with medieval
14:45we drew a blank so we've actually moved to our mate oh no that's diabolical mate they don't have a scooby
14:55on the other team hunting for activities
14:59jason and louisa check out a chocolatier hi we just wanted to find out a bit about your courses
15:06what you offer we set them the challenge of making their own chocolates mixing up their own truffle mix
15:11yeah have you ever made chocolates before no i know cakes oh do you okay yeah i've got a cake shop
15:15yeah okay so can we talk about some prices we'll do a sort of fixed price for the sort of first 12
15:20people of 795 pounds and then we charge an additional 70 pounds for each extra guest
15:28big big numbers do you want to step outside and have a quick discussion yeah about prices and things
15:35would you mind yeah no problem i think i should make a call on this and just say we can go and
15:42source all of our own stuff and i can run a cupcake workshop hi hannah thanks sorry about that no problem
15:48um so i think what we're going to do because i have got previous experience in running workshops
15:55just from a cost point of view um we're better off going out and kind of sourcing stuff for me just to
16:01do it it's just because i am yeah i am you but in a different industry yeah sure do you know what i
16:06mean so there's no point in us paying you paying 50 pounds per head just for the stuff so thank you
16:12so much for seeing us okay no problem while we're here though can we buy some piping bags from you
16:22north london
16:25shopping for school dinners francesca and rebecca
16:31right we need double cream yeah we need short crust pastry yeah girls go i'm following yeah okay
16:36fine trying to keep the cash under control jordan milk butter we also need meringue i can't keep up
16:46with the pricing we've got tea coffee orange juice we've got scones we've got cream she's getting
16:50jam we don't need butter right i'm really worried about cupcakes yeah cupcakes perfect how much did you
16:55say 96 hold on a second guys we have to always bear in mind the budget i know going out the window
17:00listen i've budgeted 50 to 100 pounds for cupcakes so that's okay we just need to be aware of it
17:05because we're just throwing stuff in and not thinking about costs as far as the food goes i don't think
17:09anyone has an idea rebecca's just running around like a child in a sweet shop picking things off the wall
17:12and throwing it in how much is that 284 pounds and 95. they won't be starving that's for sure
17:19hackney at a cash and carry haggling hard 529 549 lia six points ali on that talk to me we're concerned
17:38that we may not have enough activities in the afternoon what we thought was um sumo wrestling i don't
17:44love the idea of sumo wrestling at all we're worried that we're charging them 5 000 pounds okay the
17:51archery is going to be really fun i mean it'll be eventful but it's only it's that's it that's all
17:55we've actually got i do not want the managers of barclays rolling around at my event wrestling each
18:00other in sumo wrestling suits i think it's distasteful for god's bloody sake what are you talking
18:06nonsense right alex right tell alex people we better respect i'm getting a bit sick of him tell him to
18:10keep quiet and let you speak alex come on down no weeks i've had enough if we have literally nothing
18:16to fill the afternoon on we can at a last resort take the sumos but they're not wrestling each other
18:22they can just touch each other but i am telling you now i think that is terrible all right we'll
18:27speak to you in a bit then okay leah is totally out of control and out of her depths it's been
18:32too indecisive it's just a total calamity 5 30 p.m in kent for francesca's team
18:43trying some top price team building left first yeah louisa and jason and that would be the ski jump
18:51point so all four will be expected to jump and get both skis in the air together so that's what you
18:57with her with the heels good luck one two three
19:03there is a deal for three activities for 350. we've got a budget of 250 pounds could we meet in
19:12the middle at 300 so i'd be ashamed to just sort of walk out of here without maybe we can call it
19:18three to five can we call it three ten just okay let's shake on three ten thank you that's really
19:25going to bring everyone together and it looks professional it looks like we've delivered
19:29something of high quality as well
19:369 pm
19:40back at the house
19:43both teams regroup a couple of things that we wanted to just discuss things a little bit of
19:48frustration and stuff and put that to bed and then let's do that nice and quick the main problem
19:52we've had today has been lack of focus i just felt that maybe you didn't listen to somebody that
19:58has been to these events for francesca 11 o'clock to 11 30 we're doing meet and greet a timetable for
20:06her school themed day and you're going to run through the agenda of the day yeah that's what i'd do at
20:11that point let me just finish let me just finish eager to end their event on a professional note
20:17rebecca i'm very keen on the motivational speaker i think we can do that now no no no no i think we
20:23could have done i really think we can do that ourselves 600 pounds that's a lot of money can you
20:27listen yeah i just need you to listen this isn't just a profit task this is a quality task too
20:34in the event world there is a fine line between profit and quality and you have to pay for some things
20:39the cost per head at the moment is actually very good value if they don't enjoy the day you may
20:42not spend the money in the first place events cost money to put on that is absolutely fundamental
20:48on leah's team in terms of who i want to do what what you want is your best your best public speaker
20:54do it a motivational speech taking matters into his own hands neil in terms of motivating and driving
21:01things i've been a football coach i know how to do that type of thing leah's feeling the pressure
21:06this evening there is a danger uh the the corporate client is going to feel like we've ripped them
21:10off they've paid us five grand for the event so it's all about the execution tomorrow and i'm convinced
21:15even though we've got kind of lower end activities i think people like myself and miles can actually
21:21make this value for money okay fine you know i'd sway towards neil to deliver the motivational speech
21:26i think that'd be a good thing to do thank you guys well done nice
21:379am hertfordshire this looks absolutely gorgeous you know what it looks like a military academy
21:46location for leah's army themed away day
21:49first the plan of attack from neil and miles i think this day has to flow i'd really like to sit
22:00with neil and just see how we're linking from one thing to the next okay if you think we need 10
22:05minutes together go ahead in terms of what the client wants is improved communication yeah listening
22:11skills communication and listening skills cooking for the troops you want me to come to meet you do the
22:16veg yeah natalie and kurt i'm really confident about today they've got luxury food we've got to make
22:22sure this is spot on food's a big part of it it is such a big part of it five miles away
22:30come on boy setting the scene for their school themed day francesca's team
22:38what did this cost 300 pounds for the props
22:41hey snake i kind of figure like if we spent 300 pounds we just have these on the entire time
22:49it's a little like i'm getting burnt at the steak
22:55beautiful right do you know what you're doing i want you to start peeling
22:59the carrots as quickly as possible please
23:02i'm delighted i'm in the kitchen today it's essential that we get this food out
23:06so i think this is the most effective use of our skills i'm just peeling carrots and then i'll be
23:11scrubbing potatoes and finally i'll be cleaning broccoli
23:1611 a.m ready for their five grand corporate away day
23:21you'd like to take a seat through there and then we'll bring some teas and coffees out to you okay
23:2616 managers from the online travel agency
23:28this is it bye guys is this a tea or coffee jason can i have a coffee please
23:39hello good morning for the other team
23:44a squad of senior bank managers good morning
23:48no no no good morning sergeant neil is what i'm actually looking for so i think we will start
23:54that again good morning good morning the key objective of today is to help and improve your
24:03communication skills your listening skills and obviously build a real team ethic everything
24:09we're going to do today there is always going to be a business thread running through this
24:12there's somebody that we've um not actually introduced you to yet somebody that makes me very very nervous
24:18colonel
24:27firstly i have got you cadets privilege access to my own officers club please follow your sergeants to the
24:34the destination they'll lead you over there now
24:51three coffees two white no sugar still on tea and biscuits francesca's team
24:59i'm not quite sure yet what's going on um not quite sure who's leading it at the moment black tea
25:08we're currently doing the meet and greet i think francesca needs to talk to them a little bit more
25:11about what's happening during the day which hasn't done yet can everyone hear me okay am i loud enough
25:17um we really really wanted to get across to you today um the feeling of communication teamwork
25:25motivation and taking you all as separates and individuals taking the best elements from those
25:30and moving you forward to the one goal which is either success at work success in yourselves or just
25:35success in life and happiness this morning what we want to do is really really take you back
25:41back to the school days what inspired you when you were children like what did you want to be when you
25:46grew up i mean i want to be a police woman i'm not a police woman now but you know for me that really
25:50drove me through my first part of that's what i wanted to do okay everyone happy
25:58yes on leah's team excuse me sir i hear noise lawn games get a military makeover croquet
26:05hoop we've got balls and we're really going to try and use utilize your teamwork skills communication
26:12and listening skills as well is that clear yes you've got five points 10 points 15 points or 20 points
26:19the catch is you have to do it with your eyes closed one place to your left just turn a fraction to
26:26your right that's perfect okay okay oh look at that look at that see that colonel note it down sergeant
26:36miles noted down i think the blind balls is useful because it helps demonstrate the power of
26:41communication it's such a key thing i've organized uh in terms of the theme in terms of the agenda and
26:49leading the kind of theme that we created today i've just got involved i've just got on and done it
26:53because i think there was a lack of control beforehand hopefully neil clough again will save the day
27:02there's nothing wrong with a little bit of english weather
27:05it's raining i mean i can't tell them outside and this is ridiculous we need to abandon or
27:10re-strategize and think of an indoor activity i'm thinking as we speak as the army heads for shelter
27:17for francesca's team activities are finally in full swing
27:22talk to each other come on do it
27:25behind me you see a team building game they're having a load of fun
27:36no bones broken yet but hey it's early in the day
27:5012 45 pm hi guys i've got tea and coffee's here
27:54it doesn't feel like there's a fallback plan for rain at the moment it feels like we're lost a
27:58little bit at the moment so not quite sure what's going on with the army day under fire this session
28:03is on conflict resolution a diversionary tactic from leah we can pull together as a group and come
28:08up with some fantastic problem solving strategies for you all to take forward waiting in the wings
28:16wait what's gonna happen is leah's gonna cue me i gotta cue you to come in her secret weapons
28:20yeah run like this yeah exactly right any difficult problems any conflicts you have
28:26any personal experience of in the workplace that you'd like to to share with the group
28:31what actually why did we buy this what actually part of this is to do with business okay you just
28:42try and cut they're not gonna know what's hitting now we're going to demonstrate how conflict you
28:47you know it can spiral out of control and not be resolved
29:01okay you know this is a very somber topic no one likes dealing with complaints what we want to
29:15work on today is avoiding that lunchtime take this hold this get move there while rebecca serves up
29:25school dinners on the other team natalie and kurt's beef stew comes under attack that guy hasn't even
29:36touched his mashed potato cut oh well he's missing out oh 2 30 pm so how are we going to devise this
29:47uh well we're just gonna have to wing it next a wine tasting class from jason and rebecca do you
29:55want to do the waffling or do you want me to do the waffling or do we just do it between each
29:58other like comedy yeah i think we'll make it comedy yeah hello hello good afternoon everybody let me
30:05introduce jason this is our barman for the day whether this is a poor quality wine a medium quality
30:11or a high quality that's the aim of the game to figure out which wine is which so at the end
30:18will you explain how we should be telling good right it's not so much that we're telling it that
30:22we're connoisseurs on wine indeed i mean but we know which is the most expensive and therefore the
30:27nicest quality and it's to link in with your company which is i know um you provide five-star
30:35events and arrangements um with different costs so it's to do with costing and quality and that's
30:43why we've linked this in while half mull over the wine hi hi for the rest of the clients cupcake
30:51decorating just go crazy this is about being creative want to really get your creative side
30:57out now led by louisa oh stewart that's very funky the tasks so far have proved to be a lot of fun
31:06the day started with a back to school theme but they seem to lose that quite early on and there
31:12doesn't seem to be much structure around the the business objectives here sorry what was the point of
31:17this it's all about experiences you know at the end of the day that's what you guys supply
31:21so for you to have all different experiences and working out how things are relative to you
31:26again the communication the creativity the collaboration all those things really really
31:31come together and make one end product how's your cooking what's the doing oh i i got bored
31:39back at the bar two denies three you're changing your opinion no i said three one two
31:46time to tot up the scores oh sorry i'm sorry this is the most expensive no no
31:55this is without a drink do you want me to watch i tell you what would it make it easier if we
31:59write it down around does anybody need a drink wow as the rain clears okay cadets and the army
32:07regroups this is your new skill you'll be learning today leah's team targets their clients business
32:13objectives we've had loads of fun this morning we really want to home in on what's important to you
32:17end business this is a new challenge and it's a new skill something for people to take on board
32:25but in fact we need to get some business information out of them now i like being a branch manager and
32:30they're a bigger branch so bigger challenges they need to come away from here with something positive
32:34to work on what do you see is the biggest business challenge you have at the moment for us it's
32:39about perception imagine perception the client asked to improve his staff's listening skills and
32:44communication skills neil and miles have worked out how each game can tick that box
32:51that's what this task is all about
32:585 15 pm
33:01okay guys the grand finale of the day this is you know our last chance to really inspire you
33:07motivate you to share with you some of our own personal experiences
33:12we really wanted to finish off with something really motivational you've heard us all day mostly
33:17me talking um but this guy is far better at it than i am he's one of the uk's leading motivational
33:22speakers thank you thank you very very good evening a couple of things before i get started
33:31while a professional takes over for francesca's team ultimately the pressure for 45 minutes is off us
33:37and literally he's great to inspire the bank managers a personal message from neil i'm not
33:45going to sit here and tell you guys how to suck eggs because you probably all know a lot more than me
33:50of certainly about key parts of your business but what i am going to do is talk to you about my
33:55motivation and what motivates me in my day-to-day life my motivation comes from when i was 18 years of
34:01age and my dad passed away from cancer dad wanted to push me to be a football player i played semi
34:08professional football and i thought that was going to be my dream i don't think there's a secret to
34:13success but i do think there are a few keys and i think the most important key in life whatever you
34:18do you have to be prepared to evolve to grow continuously to change i think on the whole today's
34:23been a success and you take deep breaths the motivational speaker certainly none of us would
34:29have been able to do as well as adrian he was well worth the money thank you very much i think he's
34:34amazing actually if i may say this he's probably been the most motivating thing of the day i hope
34:41you've had a fun experience with us the day's been really fun in terms of what i've learned and what
34:46i'm taking back to the office i'm not too sure but it's been a good day out i believe that everybody
34:52should always have one key driver one key motivation they are pushing for every single day make sure that
34:58you do everything you can to go out and get it neil's really stood out for me he's very engaging
35:07he's very warm and he can relate to everyone at quite a personal level which is so important when
35:11you do this type of event so well done everyone here has worked incredibly hard including the catering
35:15guys at the back there i'm happy to say that you are now all dismissed
35:22i think it is going to take something remarkable for the other team to win well done tonight back to
35:34the house tomorrow the boardroom
35:53you can go through to the boardroom now
36:04i'm gonna start with endeavor
36:32leah i made you project manager
36:36find it easy going did you no no tell me how you got on we started with the brainstorm it was
36:42relatively organized you know i think we got some key points across the brainstorm wasn't very
36:47straightforward i'd actually been to a school themed event before i was quite passionate about
36:51that because i knew it worked i wanted something more classic sort of majestic medieval and keeping
36:57with the corporate i think the point was though lord sugar is we um leah said well let's have a vote
37:01for history or for the school and it turned out that four went for school and two went for history
37:07so you went off with schools did you no what was the point of having the vote right yeah look there was
37:11having a vote what did we vote for schools no we're not no we're going to do history that's exactly how it
37:16went who spoke to this bank i did mainly well first of all you were late yeah and the client was not
37:23happy about that because you were still debating themes the ceo of the bank oh what did he have to
37:31say they wanted us to be able to teach somebody improve listening how to improve communication
37:35skills what was clear to me when you're explaining history it was completely half-arsed idea probably
37:41the history thing wasn't the strongest but he did not want the sort of fun fun fun sack
37:46races egg and spoon that the school idea involved so we then went army what i've picked up so far
37:52leah is that you're a bit indecisive i mean if i've understood it correctly let me try and explain
37:57well let me try and explain something you're a doctor yeah you're trained to diagnose things and
38:02then make a decision exactly so if i come into your surgery with a uh a stomach pain you don't put it
38:08to a vote whether i should have an enema or have my appendix out do you i take on board what you're
38:12saying but for me to have remained decisive and so how do you put on how do you put on a military
38:18event now we put alex in a sergeant major role i think that was our kernel a bit pantomime at times
38:24alex yeah and the thing is look i mean at the end of the day you know the fact is this was a totally
38:29last minute thing with disheveled components you know you do need a bit of a strong guy to try and
38:33pull it all together bullying the delegates getting the best out of my troops i was hoping
38:38so where was the business theme coming through this because as i told you this thing wasn't
38:44supposed to be some kind of a way day jolly we did conflict resolution and how not to resolve
38:49conflict by wrestling and sumo suits please don't tell me you bought sumo wrestling yeah to put in
38:54front of the biggest bank in the country we had three objects it's listening communication and to
38:59improve teamwork i thought that me and miles could be the sergeants we could motivate the teams and get
39:04the best out of the people i spoke about personal circumstances that drove drove me to where i am
39:10today and i hope that they enjoyed it okay all right now evolve you had the online travel company
39:18very quickly between the team we decided that the school theme was the strongest in my hospitality team
39:23i had rebecca and jason they were in charge also in the in the kitchen and i also brought them out
39:28of the dungeon because i wanted to run the wine tasting and then on the way one tasting yes i was
39:33in the school yeah the client said that you had to improve their um communication skills i don't
39:41think he meant getting pissed so what happened then louise wanted to do a cupcake creative sort
39:47of session you do right one of my businesses where was the business message if i was one of these
39:52delegates would i have come away thinking to myself oh i've been inspired here our things were
39:59collaboration communication and creativity and all of the things that we did was specifically about
40:04encouraging those things between the teams we were told by the client that that was what they
40:07wanted and that was what we delivered so tell me about your inspirational speaker this lot here
40:12decided they weren't going to spend any money uh and you did i've uh attended a lot of corporate
40:17events in the past and i know how beneficial and motivational speaker is i felt very strongly that
40:23we didn't have the expertise or the experience to provide um a well-structured presentation
40:31anyway how was the project manager i thought she was very good i would say uh weak management non-existent
40:38strategy yeah i'd agree with that surprise surprise right well listen let's look at some numbers then
40:46shall we karen endeavor well the bank paid you five thousand pounds for the event you spend
40:52two thousand one hundred and seventy pounds and fifty pence but i spoke to the bank and they've asked
41:00for a partial refund because they felt that at times the structure collapsed and there was no rainy day
41:08contingency plan and they want a refund of 25 percent so therefore your profit was one thousand five
41:17hundred and seventy nine pounds and fifty pence a refund okay uh nick on your team evolve well similarly a
41:28budget of five thousand pounds spend was two thousand six hundred and fifty four pounds and nineteen
41:36but the client wanted a bit of a refund actually due to the almost entire lack of business sense
41:44and that amounted to twelve hundred and fifty pounds so that gave you a profit of a thousand and ninety
41:49five pounds and eighty one pence
41:57right well you won leah i bet you're wondering how you did that i have to tell you that i spoke to the
42:06client afterwards they were very impressed with you neil thank you very impressed indeed
42:12good i think you might have the team to thank leah yeah anyway um i'll thank you by giving you a treat
42:19and i'm sending you off to a luxury spa where you'll be pampered so off you go and i'll see you on the next
42:27task a complete lack of business message is what i'm hearing here so i'd like you to go off discuss
42:46it further and remember at least one of you is going to be fired today okay thank you
42:59when was the last time you had them done a few weeks ago i've been plucking them ever since
43:10hello she just took one off
43:15after all the stress this is amazing thank you lord sugar
43:21natalie how's it feel to be on a winning team if this is what all the treats are like
43:26unbelievable we're winning again
43:39if we hadn't had the motivational speaker and we'd have done it ourselves we would have won the task
43:42yeah 600 pounds the push for the motivational speaker came primarily from rebecca and backed
43:49up by francesca what i want to stop doing is passing the buck it's not about passing the
43:53buck it's about trying to find responsibility in certain absolutely and i'm asking you if you feel
43:57like i'm responsible for this jordan's pretty much a turncoat because it seems he seemed to agree
44:02with a lot of things over the day yet put behind pressure he seems to like to change his opinion on
44:06the spot i made the call motivational speaker i'm the project manager that's what i'm here to do
44:11francesca was an awful project manager she was weak she had no strategy she made rash decisions that
44:16cost us the task if i'm going down i'll go down in flames but at least i was decisively in flames
44:27you can go through to the boardroom now
44:42when we were in guild hall i said to you very very clearly this is supposed to be a business
45:00function for business people in order to inspire them to motivate them and a lot of the comments in
45:07here were saying that these people were trying to take us as monks they told us that they're
45:11started off some school thing here and they said it was that you were you're kind of blagging them
45:18constantly telling them what this was all about but it was a blag i felt like it was a professional
45:23event the main thing was to work together and to collaborate together to move school towards one goal
45:28if i was one of these delegates i'm just trying to visualize in my mind when i go back to my desk
45:35the next day how i've been inspired making cupcakes the cupcake side of it we wanted a
45:41concentrate upon the creativity of each person and once each person puts that creative input in
45:46when they all come together and they put that together that can create something great at the
45:50end of it it takes everyone's input to make one thing happen do you believe what you're saying
45:54can you hear it can you hear what you're saying i thought it was just me i i i don't know what you're
45:59talking about i really don't know what you're talking about it's like you've swallowed
46:03the harvard business book you francesca you talk a good game all you keep doing is saying this is
46:11inspirational motivational and all this stuff if you say it enough times you convince yourself
46:17wine tasting and the cupcakes were totally inappropriate for the so-called event that you
46:24were running i mean i was fought on this and this is why i genuinely wanted to explore the other
46:29activities francesca wanted chocolate making they didn't want us to do chocolate making why did
46:34the only reason the only reason i saved a thousand pounds by doing that let me put this on the table
46:41your team lost by 500 pounds yeah that's the bottom line here right and you were charged 600 quid for
46:47your motivational speaker here we got five people who could have taken the initiative like the other
46:54team did of speaking because my god you can speak you can certainly speak and i heard you were the
47:00hero on this is that right uh i certainly said that i thought it would be a good idea jordan mentioned
47:07that he would have liked to have done a motivational speaker louisa said also yet on the day that wasn't
47:12put across jordan's very intelligent and i'm sure would do a very good job why didn't you put why didn't
47:17you pipe up to do it no one actually said i would do that a number of us said that we could do it and
47:21no you didn't hold on hold on a second let me speak a number of us said that we could do it and
47:26before it was decided which of us we were told firstly that it was worth the money and secondly that
47:31they wanted to go with it i wasn't keen on the speaker you you've made it quite clear that you
47:35just don't like the corporate world you don't you don't agree with it what do you think this is we're
47:39in the corporate world you can't go into something saying i don't agree with it i dislike it i don't
47:43like it what do you mean by you got no time for these people in the corporate world i don't understand
47:47i think a lot of empty words are spoken in the corporate world of empty words here this is
47:53exactly what i mean francesca throughout the whole day kept speaking at these people people were
47:57sniggering at her when she was going on you know we're working towards one goal it's about collaboration
48:02and creativity and that's what i don't like about the corporate world you're talking to three people
48:07leading from the corporate world and you're telling them you don't like what they do successful people
48:10because they don't stand there and talk a load of crap to people you might find that a rough attitude
48:14when you get in front of the bank asking for investment in your business who spent 300 quid
48:19on all this other stuff the bar i did pink flamingos and all that i did there was an overspend that was
48:25ultimately where we where we lost the task and you were the finance director and i hold my hands up
48:28lord sugar i can only try and i can only give my opinions and try and fight my cause and if people
48:32don't want to listen they don't want to listen this motivational speaker is the killer the issue was
48:36forced by rebecca and accepted by francesca jason are you a waste of space in this process i i'm just not
48:43sort of shouting over everybody else i mean you seem an awfully nice fellow you're very kind thank
48:48you but of course dare i say i'm not looking for an awfully nice fellow no no i'm looking for a
48:53business partner who's got a bit of fire in his belly for me to invest 250 000 pounds and i think
48:58that if i had been project manager on this task i would have listened to the client and i would have
49:02tailored the entire day according to the brief i did the very best that i could in my small remit
49:08wine tasting as part of a school day i didn't see part of a school day exactly let's go back to the
49:13school no one person has understood school there was no theme whose idea was this wine tasting
49:21rebecca's please may i say it wasn't solely down to me it was a suggestion i'm hearing that rebecca's
49:28idea was for the wine tasting rebecca's idea was for the motivational speaker uh that's 900 quids worth
49:35and you would have romped home francesca you're going to bring two people back into this boardroom
49:40who are responsible for the failure of this task not who you personally don't get on with i wouldn't
49:48do that because i'll tell you what if you bring someone back in here for the wrong reason trust me
49:53you will be leaving today and when i come back i will be being back louisa
49:57and i apologize it will be about rebecca right okay can i just say i'm not sure why you're bringing
50:06back it's obviously a personal thing isn't personal i helped with the core activity i saved you a lot
50:10of money i worked my absolute louisa please understand this is not right and i think this is a very
50:15tactical decision you'll be able to argue your corner here thank you um jason jordan go back to the house
50:21thank you go on okay i want to have a word with nick and karen so i'd like you to step outside
50:35i'm washing it this was a real mess no theme they picked school they might as well pick knitting
50:50as far as rebecca is concerned i haven't seen much about her in the past um six weeks she hasn't made
50:57much of an impact and yet she persuaded francesca to take the the wine and the motivational speaker
51:03then she's showing her power that we haven't actually seen in the boardroom i'm slightly
51:08worried about francesca's reasons for bringing louisa back i sense real animosity between those girls
51:14i mean jordan was put in charge of finance and finance is why they lost this task did she bring
51:20the right person in yes lord sugar lord sugar will see you now
51:33so francesca i'd like to hear what louise is doing in here although the actual cupcaking
51:48was good i feel like the way she showed her distaste in the fact of the whole corporate element
51:53she doesn't like it she was very vocal from the beginning and i understand why and let me just finish
51:58why they've asked me i understand that that's her opinion but at the end of the day it was a corporate
52:02team building day what i don't like about corporate events is exactly what francesca was showing empty
52:08hollow words do you regret sometimes what you say yeah occasionally i think sometimes i can speak
52:16perhaps before i think um write before you think also you're very unforgiving and if you push me
52:24and push me i will flip and when i flip you don't want to be there i'm gonna have a partner you know
52:31who i um want to entrust to get on with doing a bit of business i think you can entrust me i've got
52:37proven that alienates everybody i'm not difficult to work with i find louisa obstinate and argumentative
52:45you know what i'm not very emotional i won't flower around girls and that's why i work better with
52:52the guys i think i'm boxed you know because of the way i look i think it's unfair that you've brought
52:58me back here i think if you look at the contributions from the members of the team what you're saying
53:01there is one of your top contributors towards this the way it delivered i don't think it was i'm not
53:06saying you didn't work i don't mind your argumentative nature actually if you're talking any sense
53:12an argumentative nature that keeps popping up all over the place can mean two things one is you're a
53:18pain in the ass or two is that the people you're with don't know what they're talking about and i
53:22honestly believe francesca had no idea what she was talking about all day you booked a motivational
53:27speaker on rebecca's recommendation no and also the recommendation i know that you always do this
53:33you always jump in on people i know you're going to say something about me you know what the fault of
53:37this task wasn't down to me doing cupcakes i saved you a thousand pounds the problem with this task
53:43lies with the amount of money that we spent 260 that's hard to disagree with that is hard to
53:48disagree but i'm sorry but i'm sorry that's the fault of this task that's where it lays it doesn't
53:53shouting and just for arguing isn't going to get across any clearer i personally don't feel like i can
53:59stand and motivate top-end management um that's not what neil did rebecca you're sitting there nice and
54:05quiet it's a very high pressured situation lord sugar yeah and i'm wondering whether this high pressure
54:11situation is um is for you i have my feet firmly planted in reality i have given up an awful lot
54:18to come into this process and i think i definitely have the skills and ability to be your business
54:23partner francesca why should you be my business partner i'm professional i'm always fair i want this
54:30to be a success and your investment is basically life-changing to me and i want this more than anything
54:35same question to you louisa i believe i should be your business partner i've got a proven track record
54:41it's starting not one but three businesses and making them a success some people in this process
54:45may not like my direct attitude but that is what gets me to play who do you think should be fired then
54:50failure of this task lies with the fact that we overspent rebecca champion the motivational speaker
54:55francesca that decision ultimately lied with you i think it's joint between the two of you i have to be
55:01honest okay all right now louisa you uh are a bit of a bombshell as far as i'm concerned and i've got
55:13to try and judge in my mind whether that is just out and out enthusiasm or whether that's your real
55:20personality because if it is your real personality you can go home now rebecca there's nothing wrong
55:29in being quiet this is not all about who can shout the loudest however um i have to say that you know
55:38i haven't seen much from you in the past six weeks other than i do acknowledge that on certain tasks
55:45you've been very good at selling francesca i'll put you in charge as the project manager here because
55:54you supposedly have experience in corporate events and yet this was a total disaster
56:02and for that reason i you know find it very difficult not to send you home today
56:09but louisa i don't know what my instinct is telling me about you can i no
56:24but i do know what my instinct is telling me about you rebecca
56:31rebecca you're fired thank you for the opportunity
56:39i'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt today you're 25 years old
56:50but i've got my eye on you okay ladies go back to the house thank you lord checker
57:09i'm disappointed i've not been able to show lord sugar more of my abilities i didn't think i'd be
57:29going today i'm feeling a bit in shock really i'm pretty sure that two are going
57:35what lou went on and on about how she disliked the corporate world i was just sort of shrinking in
57:42my seat i would hide under the table when she was saying that
57:48i think francesca is definitely going we had the school theme and the school
57:53theme's absolutely evaporated because francesca just let it disappear
57:57oh my god
58:05gave me a good drill in you don't like corporate world i honestly thought i would go
58:09well we're halfway through and we're all still here that's the good news
58:12only nine more of you to get fired until i win that was really motivational
58:16now 10 remain lord sugar's search for his next business partner continues
58:29next time i want to make this perfectly clear you've got a cell caravan caravan caravan caravan
58:34i literally hate caravan some of this stuff's like 40 50 60 grand high stakes it's 10 9 9 9 i was
58:41looking near a tent low opinions why would you pay for a roof on a chair i've got a hood for when
58:47it starts raining i'm the camper who's thinking ahead and one unhappy camper you're messed up on
58:53this task you were looking to prove yourself and you haven't you're fine
58:59so an outdoors the apprentice next wednesday night at nine and over on bbc2 rebecca relives the away day
59:06as she meets dara obreen the apprentice you're fired whilst over on bbc4 comedy from
