00:00Well, this week's got off to quite a start. We've had Storm Floris bringing some unseasonably very strong, damaging and record-breaking winds to northern parts.
00:09The low pressure that is Storm Floris is pushing away towards the northeast, but I did want to highlight a few things.
00:15Firstly, the jet stream is actively running across the UK. It's pretty strong for the time of year.
00:20No wonder then that we saw such a deep feature that was Floris bringing that unsettled start to the week.
00:26The other things I wanted to highlight, there is high pressure to the southwest of us.
00:30That's going to be nudging in as we go through towards the middle part of the week.
00:34And there's also a feature just to the east of America at the moment, and this is going to develop and head our way.
00:40Another area of low pressure going to bring something a bit more unsettled in a few days' time.
00:45But as we go through the beginning of the week, the big talking point has been Floris.
00:50Like I said, though, that's clearing away. We are still feeling the influence of this as we go through Monday night into Tuesday.
00:56Some strong, blustery winds, particularly across parts of Orkney and Shetland as we go through Tuesday morning.
01:01Could be some damaging winds for a time here.
01:04The heaviest rain will have cleared through, but a fair few showers coming in across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland,
01:10pushing into parts of Northern England and perhaps North Wales as well.
01:13And some of these could be heavy, some of them could be thundery, but they are going to be easing.
01:17They're going to be clearing away from the west as we go through the afternoon because of that ridge of high pressure that I highlighted.
01:23Also because of that ridge of that high pressure, we are seeing generally dry conditions towards the south on Tuesday, staying fine here.
01:30Temperatures may be a little bit lower than some recent days, but nonetheless getting to highs of around 23 or 24 Celsius towards the south.
01:37So feeling pretty warm with some fine sunny weather here.
01:40Fresher further north, mid to high teens, maybe just about low 20s in a few places.
01:44But the winds will be markedly lighter than on Monday.
01:48Still blustery for sure, but not as windy as it was to start the week.
01:53Then that high pressure starts to build in, so it pushes its way across the UK.
01:57It's not going to develop across the whole of the country, and there is a front fringing some northern parts as well.
02:03But for most, that high pressure is going to be firmly in control.
02:06So perhaps a fresh, cool, maybe even chilly for some of us start on Wednesday, but otherwise a pretty fine day.
02:13Some decent sunshine on offer for most of us.
02:16Just a little bit more cloud perhaps pushing in as we go through the later parts of the afternoon.
02:21And I did mention a frontal system towards the north.
02:23There could be some cloud and rain early on affecting parts of Orkney and Shetland in particular.
02:27And then later on, we do have some cloudier wet weather coming in.
02:30More on that in a second.
02:31And ahead of the cloud that's coming in from the west, eastern parts clinging on to some sunshine through much of the day.
02:38And here we're going to see the highest temperatures a couple of degrees up on Tuesday, 25, maybe 26 Celsius.
02:43And even elsewhere, despite the fact that there will be some cloud developing through the afternoon,
02:48temperatures are still going to be getting into the low 20s for many places.
02:51And with light winds, feeling pretty warm with that as well.
02:54But I mentioned there's some wet weather arriving from the northwest.
02:57Yes, another low pressure, I highlighted it at the start, is going to be coming in.
03:01This one takes a different track to Flores, though.
03:03It's going a little bit further north, and it's not quite as deep.
03:07So the weather's not going to be as impactful.
03:09Yes, there will be some wet and windy weather around, but it shouldn't cause any major disruption.
03:14Nonetheless, a band of rain will be pushing its way southeastwards as we go through Thursday.
03:18So a bit of rain overnight for Scotland and Northern Ireland,
03:21and then that rain makes its way across parts of England and Wales as we go through Thursday itself.
03:26It is breaking up as it makes its progress across the country.
03:29But there could still be some heavy bursts in it, so do watch out.
03:33There could be some heavy rain around.
03:35And it is going to take a while to make its way towards the far southeast and clear away,
03:39well, until the evening for some places here.
03:42Behind the front, there will be a scattering of showers, some blustery winds across parts of Scotland,
03:47maybe Northern Ireland and Northern England, seeing a few showers as well.
03:51And away from the showers, away from the front, there will be some decent sunshine around.
03:54And actually ahead of the front, temperatures even higher on Thursday than on Wednesday.
03:58So 26, maybe 27 Celsius, fresher than this towards the northwest, but still getting to the high teens or low 20s.
04:05So if you do catch any sunshine and you're in the shelter from that blustery wind, well, it isn't going to feel too bad at all.
04:12Then looking ahead to Friday, and we still have the influence of that low pressure towards the north of the UK.
04:18So still some blustery winds across northern parts.
04:21And through Friday itself, there will be some showery rain pushing in here as well.
04:26Further south, though, a drier picture, but there could be a bit of rain affecting some southern parts.
04:31Doesn't look particularly heavy.
04:32I think it's across the north and west of the country where we have a greater chance of some showery bursts.
04:37And temperatures, if anything, peg back a degree or so.
04:41But still, you know, at this time of year, it's going to feel pretty warm indeed if you catch any of those sunny breaks,
04:46with temperatures ranging or peaking in the range from high teens to mid-20s, depending on where you are in the country.
04:53Later on, as we go through the end of the week and into the weekend,
04:57and we stick with the idea of low pressure somewhere towards the north-northwest of the UK
05:01and higher pressure towards the south, which means we're going to have something of a northwest-southeast split.
05:06And as much as any frontal systems that come close towards the UK, they're mainly going to affect northwestern parts.
05:12That's where we have the greatest chance of some rain through this weekend, particularly Sunday, maybe Saturday, but particularly Sunday.
05:18Meanwhile, towards the south and east here, it's always likely to be drier with some decent sunny breaks.
05:23And in the sunshine, feeling pretty warm.
05:26Temperatures for some will be above average.
05:28But towards the north, where we get that wetter weather, where it could be a bit blustery as well,
05:32temperatures may be a little bit below, so feeling fresher here.

05:40You won't miss an update that way.
05:41I'll be back with the deep dive on Tuesday, so make sure you catch that then.
05:46Bye-bye.
