00:00Hello there, welcome to your weekend forecast from the Met Office, where things are trying to settle down.
00:06High pressure building very slowly as we head through Saturday and into Sunday.
00:11We will see some cooler nights, even with the frost in places, some showers around particularly on Saturday,
00:17but also some brighter skies coming through.
00:20So all in all, yes, a better end to the week than what we've seen.
00:24We've seen a lot of sharp showers, outbreaks of rain, but temperatures generally have been above average.
00:30That won't be the case as we head through the weekend. More around average for the seasonal norm.
00:35Now this is a Friday into Saturday. You can see low pressure sits towards the north of Scotland.
00:41It's quite a squeeze on the isobars and also this wraparound front here,
00:45which will bring a cluster of showery rain to the western and then central parts of Scotland.
00:52Showers will be further south as well as this cold front clears towards the southeast.
00:56So for more southern areas, you'll see some drier skies, a few scattered showers.
01:02Further north though, blustery showers and certainly the wind will be a feature of the weather.
01:07As we start Saturday, it will be chilly in places.
01:10Now we will see local winds around 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in the valleys and the glens.
01:16So a bit of a chilly one as we start Saturday morning.
01:20Some brighter skies towards the south, but the wind will be a key feature of the weather through the day
01:25across the northwest of Scotland and then the far north of Scotland.
01:29And with that, you can see this showery rain heavy at times extending across the country.
01:35Now the risk of thunder here further south, some showers moving in across Northern Ireland.
01:40They'll be fairly scattered, although you could see a heavy one and some drifting showers across northern England, the Midlands,
01:46as well as northern parts of Wales.
01:48Further south, not a bad day.
01:50Some hazy sunshine.
01:52The clouds will break at times, allowing for some brighter skies.
01:55A similar situation for the southwest peninsula.
01:57And these showers here will continue through the afternoon across Scotland, although across more southern areas, you'll see fewer showers.
02:05And across the far north, it's really just that keen breeze, keeping things rather cool with some showers in the
02:11mix as well.
02:12So that's the picture on Saturday afternoon.
02:16Regarding temperatures, well, I think the highest temperatures will be towards the south with some brighter breaks, 16, 17 degrees
02:23Celsius.
02:23But the low teens across northern England, 11 or 12 across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:28You can see these blues just migrating in as high pressure builds from the southwest.
02:34Notice across the far north of Scotland, though, still quite a breeze here as we enter the day on Sunday.
02:40But high pressure will mean some clearer skies through the first part of Sunday.
02:45A rural frost can't be ruled out pretty much anywhere in the towns and cities.
02:49Temperatures around 3 to 6 degrees Celsius and windy for Orkney and in particular for Shetland, where you will see
02:56some wet weather.
02:57Still some showers around, particularly across western Scotland.
03:01One or two just fringing the far north of Northern Ireland.
03:04But for most, it's a dry start to Sunday.
03:07You'll see some sunshine.
03:09Notice more of a breeze coming down this eastern side, making it feel rather cool here.
03:13A fresh wind at that, and the winds remain strong across the far north there.
03:19Still a few showers just drifting in across the northwest.
03:22The clouds will come and go.
03:24We'll see some hazy sunshine.
03:26And that means temperatures, well, up to probably around 13, 14 degrees Celsius.
03:32So around average.
03:33But even so, feeling pleasant in shelter with that brighter weather coming through.
03:37Later on, though, we'll see more on the way of showers just moving in across Shetland, Orkney and Caithness.
03:44Eventually, just moving down towards the Murray Firth as well as Aberdeenshire.
03:49But high pressure will keep things mostly dry.
03:52You can see these temperatures here struggling a little bit.
03:55High temperatures again towards the south.
03:57Further north, only 10 or 11 degrees Celsius.
04:00So the weekend, yes, it does settle down.
04:04High pressure will be with us.
04:05Watch out for a touch of frost.
04:08But those showers, really few and far between, come Sunday and into the early part of next week.
04:13Fine initially with that high pressure.
04:16We'll see some showers streaming down the north as well as the east.
04:19Some scattering of showers as we head through to Tuesday as high pressure just gradually declines towards the west.
04:26Wherever you are, have a wonderful weekend.
04:28And I'll see you again soon.
04:30I'll see you again soon.
