00:00Sorry Vash, but the rain is here to stay. Good evening Trinidad and Tobago. I'm Rochelle Edwards. It's Friday, a wet Friday, but it's still Friday and I have your weather updates.
00:12So we had a lot of rain in most areas. Here's what happened today. Between 25 and 50 lightning clouds to lightning ground lightning strikes were detected across southwestern Trinidad as a cluster of thunderstorms moved west into the Gulf of Paria, producing locally heavy to violent rainfalls, raids and gusty winds.
00:35Isolated showers also developed in the northwestern areas of Trinidad.
00:41Now, for 2025 to date, the National Hurricane Center has analyzed 20 tropical waves between Trinidad and Tobago and the African west coast.
00:52Of these, one dissipated before reaching Trinidad and Tobago. 17 have now moved across the Lesser Antilles and two are forecast to move across the region on Saturday and early next week.
01:06Now, while not every tropical wave brings rainfall, the next two are forecast to bring locally heavy rain and gusty winds, mainly to islands north of Trinidad and Tobago for the next five days.
01:18Moving on to conditions in Port of Spain. Presently, TV6's Weather Center says downtown is mostly cloudy with temperatures at 27 degrees Celsius with winds coming northwest at two knots.
01:31We also have humidity at 90 percent in the atmosphere.
01:35Tonight will be partly cloudy with occasional showers and the medium chance of some heavier showers and thunderstorms.
01:42Those showers will continue into tomorrow during early morning.
01:46As the day progresses, conditions should settle despite few lingering showers.
01:52Gusty winds and street or flash flooding are possible in the vicinity of heavy showers or thunderstorms.
01:58So, maximum temperatures are 31 degrees in Trinidad and 30 degrees in Tobago.
02:04Now, looking at our two-day forecast, according to the med office, Sunday conditions are looking mostly fair with the isolated shower and the low chance of heavier showers or thunderstorms.
02:15Developing in the afternoon and starting back the week, well, rain continues and Monday will be occasionally cloudy with few showers and a medium chance of some heavier showers favoring western and southern Trinidad.
02:30On Sunday, maximum temperatures are 32 degrees in Trinidad and 31 in Tobago.
02:35And on Monday, temperatures are 31 in Trinidad and 30 over in Tobago.
02:42So, with all the rain expected, the beach should not be the first place on your list.
02:47But if it is, seas are moderate with waves 1.5 meters to 2 meters in open waters and below 1 meter occasionally choppy in sheltered areas.
02:57And for your sun time, sunrise is at 5.53 in Trinidad and it will set at 6.31.
03:03Over in Tobago, sunrise is at 5.49 and it will set at 6.28.
03:10For the fishermen and recreational boaters out there, here are your tide times.
03:15That's all for me.
03:29Stay safe, stay dry and let the weekend begin.
03:33Stay with us.
03:33More news when we come back.
