00:00on with the weather forecast.
00:02Thanks, Disha. Good evening, Trinidad and Tobago.
00:05Let's get right to your weather.
00:06Let's begin with what's happening.
00:08The Madden-Julian Oscillation, put simply, MJO,
00:12is expected to reside over the Eastern Caribbean
00:15during the last week of October and November
00:18and will enhance rainfall over Trinidad and Tobago.
00:21So you're probably wondering, what's an MJO?
00:24Well, the Madden-Julian Oscillation is a moving system of clouds,
00:28wind, and rain that circles the tropics every 30 to 60 days.
00:33It plays a big role in tropical weather,
00:36affecting things like monsoons and the formation of tropical storms.
00:40Depending on its phase, the MJO can bring wetter or drier conditions
00:44to different regions.
00:46In our case, it will bring some extra showers.
00:49Here's what else is happening.
00:51Tropical storm Melissa, which is taking aim on the Caribbean,
00:55may strengthen to a hurricane in the next 24 to 48 hours.
00:59Melissa poses a biggest threat to Haiti and the Dominican Republic,
01:03Cuba, and Jamaica, where days of heavy rain and severe winds
01:07could lead to life-threatening landslides and flooding.
01:11Melissa is moving over water temperatures,
01:134 to 5 degrees above average for this time of year,
01:17which will help it strengthen from a tropical storm into a hurricane.
01:21Melissa is expected to approach Jamaica and the southwestern portion of Haiti
01:26later this week.
01:28A hurricane watch is in effect for the southwestern peninsula of Haiti
01:31from the border with the Dominican Republic to Port-au-Prince,
01:35while a tropical storm watch has been issued in Jamaica.
01:39A lot going on this week.
01:41Now, moving on to conditions in Port-A-Spain currently,
01:44we have temperatures at 27 degrees
01:46and winds coming east-southeast at 6 kilometers per hour.
01:51We have humidity at 89%.
01:53Looking at tonight, conditions are expected to be partly cloudy
01:57with a few overnight or early morning showers
02:00and minimum temperatures at 24 degrees in Trinidad
02:03and 25 in Tobago.
02:05And if you're singing,
02:07rain, rain, go away.
02:09Unfortunately, it's not going anywhere anytime soon
02:12because tomorrow the Met Office is forecasting partly cloudy and breezy conditions
02:17with occasional showers and the low chance of thunderstorm activity.
02:21It is important to remember that gusty winds near 58 kilometers per hour
02:25and street flooding can occur in areas under heavy showers and thunderstorms.
02:30Tomorrow's forecast maximum temperatures are 32 degrees
02:33in both Trinidad and Tobago.
02:36And our two-day forecast will follow suit
02:38with Friday and Saturday both giving us partly cloudy conditions
02:42that will eventually become cloudy at times with occasional showers.
02:46There's a low chance of the isolated thunderstorm.
02:49Maximum temperatures are 32 degrees in Trinidad and Tobago
02:53for both Friday and Saturday.
02:56Even with all that rain expected,
02:58our seas will remain moderate
03:00with waves up to 2 meters in open waters
03:02and near 1 meter in sheltered areas.
03:05Now, let's look at our sun times.
03:07In Trinidad, sunrise is at 544
03:09and it will set at 544.
03:12Over in Tobago, sunrise is at 551
03:15and it will set at 541.
