03:07Welcome to Beyond the Tape.
03:22I'm your host, Mark Boussaint.
03:23Welcome to our viewers across Trinidad and Tobago
03:26and our global viewers.
03:27It's Monday.
03:28And of course, over the weekend, we had a lot of activities.
03:31One being the swearing of the cabinet ministers for the new UNC government.
03:37And of course, the coalition of interests now forming the government.
03:41We also had the Point Forte Borody celebrations.
03:45Down in Point Forte, where thousands attended.
03:48And then, unfortunately, even in that division,
03:51there was an attack of an elderly couple by bandits
03:55who robbed and beat them and assaulted them.
03:59Certainly of concern.
04:01And today, we have a gentleman that has been missing for two weeks.
04:05Not by choice, of course.
04:08We want to welcome Captain Valence Rambrant of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team.
04:13How have you been?
04:14I've been well, Mark.
04:16A pleasant good evening to all of you.
04:18As on TV 6 and specifically Beyond the Tape.
04:22Mark, yes, I was missing for two weeks.
04:25Easter Monday and then Election Day.
04:28But we are very busy.
04:30But first of all, it would be remiss of me if I didn't want to welcome
04:35our ninth Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago,
04:38the Honorable Kamala Pesad B. Sassasi,
04:42and her government and the cabinet as well.
04:45And also to thank the outgoing government for their service to Trinidad and Tobago.
04:51And I also want to specifically welcome all ministers in what was formerly
04:57the Ministry of National Security.
05:00Yes.
05:01As you know, Mark, that was broken up into two.
05:03And you now have Roger Alexander,
05:08Honorable Minister Roger Alexander heading Homeland Security
05:12and Honorable Minister Wayne Sturge handling the Defence Ministry.
05:19So I want to specifically welcome them to their portfolio
05:23because, as you know, this is a crime program.
05:26And we will ultimately be referring to their plans and policies for that ministry
05:32as they seek to tackle the ongoing crime problem in Trinidad and Tobago.
05:37Yes.
05:38We hope that maybe both, if not one, will grace us with our presence here on the show.
05:44That will be great.
05:45One being a former host.
05:46Well, yes.
05:47One was a former host.
05:48Yes.
05:49And we have a clip of him interacting with Hunter's Search and Rescue Team.
05:54And he actually has a jersey.
05:56Right.
05:57And if you look at the clip, well, that's not when he had the jersey,
06:00but he did have it on for part of the program.
06:03There is him putting on the Hunter's Search and Rescue Team.
06:07But his message to us, Mark, on that day was basically,
06:12we are skilled and we know what we are about in terms of handling missing persons.
06:17Yes.
06:18And therefore, it is good that we do that
06:22so that the police service could focus on more, you know, intense criminal activities.
06:29So we do take a burden off their shoulders.
06:32And that is what happens in actuality.
06:35But, Mark, over the past two weeks, we were extremely busy.
06:39And I know you showed something about Malini Passat.
06:43Yes.
06:44The 15-year-old girl from Barapo whose body we were able to discover in the Barapo district.
06:54And I just want to wish condolences to her family.
06:58But, Mark, on that specific day, we did go far to look for her.
07:04It was almost a mile from behind a certain gentleman's house.
07:09And we did press her that morning.
07:11And just after lunch, we were able to recover her body.
07:14And then, Mark, we had a 46-year-old gentleman by the name of Narad Ragunanan, a taxi driver.
07:22A taxi driver, yes.
07:23And, Mark, there is something interesting about that.
07:25I came to Shagwanasta meeting at 9.
07:28I left at 11.
07:29And on the way down, I called the guys and I said,
07:32Listen, could you all join me somewhere by Palm East Park?
07:35Let's search for this guy.
07:37And 10 minutes into the search, lying just at the edge of the roundabout,
07:42somewhere down there were those two gentlemen coming out by that coconut tree.
07:47Yes.
07:48We were in the vehicle and we were able to spot that body on the side of that abandoned roundabout.
07:55And you could see I wasn't in full gear that day.
07:58I was just coming from a meeting.
08:00But we do work with our search gear and clothes in our vehicles wherever we go.
08:05So, that is probably the fastest search we had.
08:08And it was important.
08:09Here, there I am speaking to his wife, Amanda, trying to console her.
08:15He left three children there.
08:17And it was a really sad day for this family.
08:23And we really do have to, you know, put out a lot apart from searching.
08:28And we have to deal with these families who are going through the trauma.
08:32And then we had Jaquim Phillip as well.
08:36Jaquim went missing in San Susi, missing at sea.
08:41And since the 20th of April and we did go up there to assist his family.
08:46We have experience in the San Susi area.
08:49We know the spots to look for and we spent an entire day up there.
08:54And to date Jaquim has not been found.
08:58And that's so sad because the family is from Freeport.
09:01Yes.
09:02And to leave Freeport to go to San Susi is a lot of work.
09:05And then, mark on election night.
09:08And this is us at San Susi.
09:10You see how we have to climb these high mountains.
09:12Rocks to get a good vantage point of the north coast.
09:16And there are two guys with us.
09:19And the father and I are just behind.
09:21Yeah.
09:22You will see father there.
09:24And I just looking out at sea to see if we could have spotted anything.
09:29And you could see how treacherous the water is.
09:32And that's the type of search you have to conduct on the north coast.
09:36It's very dangerous.
09:37And just one more on election night.
09:39Yes.
09:40We had a drowning in Vancouver.
09:41A gentleman by the name of Adesh.
09:44Adesh Taylor.
09:46It is said that he went to assist with the watering of plants there.
09:49And he slipped and fell into a pond.
09:51And he, we were called by the police.
09:56And we have a piece of equipment, Mark.
10:00Yes.
10:01And in less than 10 minutes, we were able to have the body recovered on the edge of the pond.
10:06And so that they could have processed the seed.
10:08So we had a very busy time.
10:11And just one thing, we have a drowning on in Mayaro at this current point in time.
10:16And we have team, our teammates are up there.
10:19A 15-year-old boy drowned at around 4 p.m. this afternoon in Mayaro.
10:25So when I leave here, I will venture to Mayaro to join them.
10:29And try to assist the family.
10:32So that, you know, if our body has to be recovered, we will join them and do that for them.
10:39Yes, certainly.
10:40Well, we're going to be talking a lot more on Lily to any programmer
10:43or other persons who are in business.
10:46And, of course, your successes in finding some of those people.
10:49But now we're going to go to our headlines.
10:52I'm a little bit over.
10:55We're going to go to our next segment.
10:57We'll see you guys in the next segment.
10:59Let's see you.
11:00In the next segment.
11:01Bye.
11:02Let's see you.
11:03Bye.
11:04Bye.
11:06Bye.
11:08Bye.
11:09Bye.
11:11Bye.
11:12Bye.
11:14Bye.
11:15Bye.
11:16Bye.
11:17Bye.
11:18Bye.
11:19Bye.
11:20Bye.
11:21Bye.
11:22So those are some of the headlines for the last 24 hours, of course, you know, police doing some good work there, retrieving some firearms after acting on some information.
11:31And they actually saw some men gathered with firearms in that area, I believe in the Maraval area, and they went there and they were able to retrieve some firearms and ammunition and they arrested one man.
11:43They arrested one man and they found a high-powered rifle in a 800-gallon water tank and that was just after someone's funeral.
11:53That is the gentleman who was gunned down at the airport.
11:57Yes, yes, that's the firearm there.
12:01I guess they were preparing for a 21-gun salute.
12:05Yep, yep.
12:07Well, you can't play with fire and not get burned.
12:12And not get burned, yeah.
12:13All right, unfortunately, this morning there was a really horrific accident along the Dago Martin Highway in which a mother lost her life.
12:23Shefone Daniel of Savannah Terrace in Bagatelle, Dago Martin.
12:29Two others were injured in that accident, including her 10-year-old son, a special needs child.
12:38And, you know, before, on Friday and I think on Thursday, we spoke about road safety over the weekend, persons going to border there and so on.
12:48And, of course, there were also other motorists using the roads, traversing the roads, you know, to be extremely cautious.
12:56And, you know, this, the vehicle appeared to have overturned, of course, and, you know, persons would have been injured.
13:07And, of course, unfortunately, Mrs. Daniel lost her life.
13:11Yeah, very unfortunate accident.
13:13Mark, we put up the weather news every morning on our page.
13:16And we did write this morning that it was raining at about the time of this accident.
13:22But it was really unnerving this morning that the first glance at social media was the fact that there was a fetal accident in this district.
13:31It really shakes you up on the morning when you get that type of news.
13:34But drivers have to be careful.
13:38It's rain time and they have to be careful on the nation's roads.
13:41And as you're talking about safety, there was one during the course of today as well that we also saw in the, just on the highway there near the, I'm trying to remember, at Sealots, yes.
13:57A truck running into three vehicles on the wet roads, and you were talking about the road conditions, of course.
14:05We had some serious rainfall over the last, I'd say, 48 hours into this morning as well.
14:12So, I don't know the particulars, but certainly, it looks like four vehicles, this other vehicle as well.
14:19I'm seeing the PCH was involved as well.
14:22Yes.
14:23We are hopeful that nobody was badly hit in that particular incident.
14:31And we talked about guns, and of course, there was a shooting in the La Hocketa area where one person was shot in a vehicle over the weekend.
14:41I know he was, I think he was, he was, he was one of the persons that was killed, and one of them was injured, I believe.
14:48And, you know, it's really sad that, you know, and then we had, we had like another one involving Mr. Ambrose, bought a maxi, a maxi, a maxi, sorry, driver that was shot and killed in North Kunupia.
15:05North Kunupia.
15:06In that video, we captured the, the actual killers involved in that shooting there.
15:13You see one of the persons pretending to be a, carrying something like a, pretending to be a Waka person.
15:19Yeah.
15:19And they walk up to the vehicle and open fire on Mr. Board, who's sitting in the driver's seat, of course.
15:27There's another man that runs into, into the picture there.
15:31We don't know exactly what he did.
15:32I don't know if he might have relieved him of any items or anything, but certainly the motive behind the shooting, police are still looking into it.
15:41But it looks to be an ambush because it appears to be a dead end street, on the street there, and he may have been called and maybe a delivery driver, a maxi, a delivery driver.
15:55So we have to be careful out there in everything we do.
15:59There was also another shooting in that Kunupia area, early yesterday morning, a guy from the Maraval area, Anthony Sabreira, shot and killed as well in the Kunupia area, bringing the homicide count to 133 for the year.
16:15So definitely, I know the police is working hard on their end in these shootings and these murders, of course, to find the perpetrators involved.
16:25Yeah, and they have to continue their good work that I commended that they did during the SOE.
16:33And the criminal enterprise is large in Trinidad and Tobago.
16:41And they certainly have to work hard to get our grips on these type of killings and murders in Trinidad and Tobago.
16:49Yes, most certainly.
16:51All right, we're going to take a short break and we'll be back.
16:53Stay with us.

18:46Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
18:50I'm your host Mark Bussan joined today by Captain Valence Rambarat of the Hunter Search and Rescue Team.
18:54Just a little correction there.
18:55The video we showed you was actually of the murder of Anthony Sibiru and not Mr. Ambrose Bord who were shot and killed on Saturday morning in a robbery attempt.
19:06So apologies for that.
19:07And I know we are going to be talking about some of the missing persons for this month.
19:12Yes Mark but during the break we were speaking of something and let me start by just commending the National Special Operations Unit headed by ACP Smith.
19:24Yes.
19:24They responded to my late midnight call last night.
19:29We had information where two missing girls were, Rihanna Fraser and Rihanna LaFond.
19:34And they went to a particular place and they were able to locate them and take them both to the Faisabad police station.
19:42So let me publicly thank the police for responding at that late hour and of course ensuring that these two girls were safely returned to their parents.
19:54Unusual for a month, this in the month of April last, we had 41 missing persons.
20:01And of the 41 reports we received, we still have 12 outstanding and these are, we still have Jordan Chrysostom and Jordan is under the purview of the Children's Authority and he is still missing and he was last seen in the Arema area.
20:29Then we have Rakeem Walcott, we still have much information on Rakeem Walcott and so we are asking you if you are from the Arang West District and you have information on Rakeem to please call us at 799-1453.
20:45Kishon Edwards remains missing another 17-year-old from Harding Place Incorporate and we still have to get some more information on Kishon Edwards.
20:58Ainsworth Andrew is missing and this is one of concern and he has been missing for too long.
21:04We have no leads on Ainsworth Andrew at this point in time, he is from the Enterprise District.
21:13Leandro Miller, again this is one for concern, he is from the Belmont District.
21:19We have had no, absolutely no leads on Leandro Miller and he is also one that we have red flagged for concern.
21:28And then we have Anatole Nicholas, he is from Kaparo but spent some time in the La Hocketa District and was staying by his daughter in Edinburgh 500.
21:39He left her home in Edinburgh 500 early one morning, 3pm on the 26th of February 2025 and he remains missing.
21:50So if you see him walking around as we suspect he is, please call us at 799-1453, it's the only picture we have of him.
22:01And then we have Winston Peters, 81 years old, he is still outstanding from Red Hill, Dabody.
22:08We have two persons outstanding from Dabody and Winston Peters is one.
22:14We have no leads on him as well, most likely walking around somewhere.
22:18And then we have the Jaquim Phillip.
22:23We dealt with this early in the program, Jaquim is still missing at sea.
22:28And then we have Isaiah Regis from Digo Martin District.
22:32We have somebody who is in contact with him and he is having some problems so hopefully he will get back to his parents.
22:40But his parents are distraught and they want Isaiah Regis back home as soon as possible.
22:47Adana Mangley is from Mova, 16th.
22:51She went missing on the 23rd and we have no information on her.
22:55So if you have information on Adana Mangley, please contact us so that we can get her home safely.
23:01And then Marlon Sambury is from La Hoceta.
23:07He has some aging disorders and he is out there somewhere.
23:15We've had no leads on Marlon Sambury up to this morning.
23:19His sister called me and we have no information on him.
23:24In fact, he may not be looking like that at all.
23:29But it's the only picture they have of Marlon Sambury.
23:33Then we have Rihanna Frederick.
23:35She is well known to us.
23:37She is a repeat runaway.
23:39And the next one is from Dabody.
23:42And hopefully Rihanna will come home soon.
23:45And then, Mark, we went on to May.
23:48And May, again, is fast as well.
23:51We had 12 reports of missing persons thus far and 7 remain outstanding.
23:58The first two are from the Children's Authority.
24:02Emily Williams is still missing.
24:05And she was last seen in the Maloney area.
24:10And you can contact the Children's Authority or our team at 799-1453 if you have information on her.
24:19As well as Alia.
24:21Alia is missing under the jurisdiction of the Children's Authority.
24:26And she was last seen in the Mova area.
24:29Sheldon Perrot is missing.
24:32And we have information that he may be...
24:37We have information on him.
24:39So I think between any next couple of days, we should be able to resolve that case.
24:44And then Hema Rampasad, we have information.
24:46No, Alia Mohamed.
24:48By this afternoon, we should be able to locate Alia Mohamed.
24:52I'm confident that she will be located.
24:55It's just for someone to go to a particular area and get her.
25:00So hopefully this one, we will find her by this afternoon.
25:03Esther Motilal...
25:06No, Hema Rampasad.
25:10She...
25:11We're working on this case.
25:13I worked on this case earlier today.
25:16We thought we had a location, but she wasn't there.
25:19So we continue to work with her relatives to try to get her back home.
25:23And then we have Esther Motilal.
25:25Well, she just came on the radar from the police.
25:28So we don't have any information.
25:30On our way back, we will contact the penal police station and see what information they have on Esther Motilal.
25:38And so, yeah, so the missing persons, we have had a lot for April.
25:43And then May is kicking off quite, quite, quite swiftly as well.
25:47Twelve thoughts far.
25:49Well, we're hopeful that if you have any information, of course, don't hesitate to contact the Hunter Search and Rescue Team or the nearest police station.
25:58We're going to take a short break and we'll be back.
26:00Stay with us.

28:56I am your host, Mark Bussan, joined today by Captain Valence Rambrad of the Hunter's Search and Rescue.
29:00I know you just wanted to take us back to another missing person.
29:03Yes, so we have Marlon Hedwood, who has been missing for a while in Trinidad, and to be one.
29:08The thing about Marlon is that Marlon is a Canadian citizen.
29:13He returned in early March to stay with his mother in Separia.
29:20Now, Marlon's mental health is compromised, and according to his brother, he thinks like a five-year-old.
29:27So he had an altercation in Separia with some guys, and he was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital.
29:35He discharged himself on the 2nd of March from the San Fernando General Hospital, and they have never found him after that.
29:46So the family is offering a reward of $10,000 for information on Marlon.
29:51But I wanted to point out to you all a couple of things.
29:54One, his brother has returned to Trinidad and to be gone.
29:59And we've been on several searches for Marlon with his brother, Anthony Henwood.
30:04But one thing you ought to know is that we believe by now he would have grown a beard.
30:09And we wanted to point out to you that it would be an orange-colored beard.
30:14And so even in the San Fernando area in particular, because the two sightings have been around Neel and Massey near the Bamboo, roundabout in Laramid.
30:25They're not two confirmed sightings there on or around the 3rd of March, 2025.
30:34So if you see Marlon Henwood, please get in contact with us or the nearest police station immediately.
30:40The brother has taken time off to be in Trinidad, and he is dependent upon us to take him around and switch.
30:49So when we leave here, it's San Fernando and then on to Marlon, so our day doesn't end at 7 p.m.
30:57Right.
30:58All right.
30:59So if you have information, of course, a $10,000 reward for the whereabouts of Mr. Marlon Henwood,
31:05please contact the Hunter's Search and Rescue team.
31:09And we're going to go back to Northeastern Settlement for Voice of the People.
31:13Let's take a look.
31:14How long have you been living in this area?
31:33About, I could say at least about 30 years now.
31:37What was life like before here became a hotspot to you?
31:41It was good.
31:44It was really, really good.
31:46You know, people looking out for one another.
31:49You know, talking to at least, you know, all the neighbors being okay.
31:53You know, the crime wasn't that bad.
31:56And I tell her it wasn't really bad because, you know, that, you know, a parent could at least talk to a child in a situation like that.
32:04You know, they could at least, you know, have a communication with them.
32:11You know, that's when the road wasn't even, let me say, didn't even cultivated it.
32:16It had small little shacky house here.
32:18So, it was a peaceful community.
32:21It wasn't, you know, this is how the way it is now.
32:24In every little corner you're hearing, you know, a little fight, a gun firing in that situation, you know.
32:33How have you been affected by the crime in your area and what has made you, how has that changed your daily routine?
32:45Well, I cannot really go out at night to say I had to go with somebody because at least we all fear of our life the way how it is now.
32:56Because maybe on your walk, you might be able to know if you will get at least, you know, rubbed with a gun point at your head or anything like that.
33:05Right?
33:07So, what measures do you take to protect yourself so that you don't become a victim of pain?
33:12Well, the hour that I worked and to at least be inside will be at least an early stage or else it is that my family will at least go anywhere with me.
33:27You know, so there is at least one protection because I understand that day when I was watching the television, there is one saying that do not go all by yourself.
33:36You know, go with someone and that is what it is that does do.
33:41Right?
33:42So, do you honestly believe that people in your community are trying to prevent crime and to mitigate the crime in this area?
33:51Think they are doing enough?
33:53I don't think so.
33:55I really don't think so.
33:57But to explain, you know, it will.
33:59But I don't feel so because it has some people will encourage their children in a lot of things while you're trying to keep your children and them off base.
34:08What would you say, how would you rate the effectiveness of the law enforcement in responding to situations in this area as well as in terms of walkabouts and engagement with the community?
34:21I don't know. I just, I find it should be more peaceful. That's all I could be able to say. I find it, you know, that everybody could at least walk freely, have a freely daily life, go where they want to go, come where they want to go.
34:40You know, you know, if I want to go the road, I can be able to do. At least I could trust myself, you know, because, you know, it have nothing like that. But now it is.
34:49You don't think the police do enough on the serial?
34:51No, they don't.
34:54They don't.
34:56Because now if it is have a little issue, they don't even come in.
35:01They don't even come in to say, well, you know, if it like, for instance, a neighbor will have a little issue with cussing or cutting, who put chop.
35:10The only time they does reach out is when bloodshed.
35:13The only time when bloodshed already done shed.
35:17So what would you like to see happen in your community to turn things around and obviously the police also engaging this community?
35:27More police. More police in the area, right, as well as, you know, get their children and them involved in a lot of activities like sports, you know, and all these, you know, these kind of things, you know, have little police community that they can able to sit down and talk to them,
35:44that they can go around the police and them kind of go around the area, you know, and have a come one and one combination, communication.
35:52Because what I'm saying, remember, police have families as well.
35:56And because of how police have family as well, they sometimes be involved in the crime as well.
36:06So they have to at least, you know, teach our example, show our example, you know, that they could able to, the community could be better by them, by them as well.
36:16And you've seen a lot of youths that are unemployed in the area and gravitating towards gangs.
36:23Yeah.
36:24What advice do you have for people like that and young men like that?
36:27I feel they could get at least because what does have them frustrated and, you know, looking for their way out of life is more, they don't have no job.
36:36They don't have any job because look, some coming out of school and they have most of education, but they don't want to be on the block.
36:43They don't want to do certain things, but that is what it is they could make fast money for.
36:50You know, and we would not like our children to be in that situation.
36:54So I find that they, it's supposed to have more jobs for the youths, you know, it's supposed to have more jobs.
37:03Lastly, do you believe that stiffer penalties for certain crimes will deter people from going young at work?
37:12And what is your suggestion?
37:13I don't think that the, the, I don't think that that will prevent all these.
37:24As I say, I feel what it is that, you know, could happen is children need love as well as they need attention because bad as you is you just need attention.
37:37Right, and I feel that children of today need a lot of attention.
37:44They need to know what is life and what life holds for, for them in, in, in this future.
37:52Right, and I feel that the betterment is being job, being, having a job and at least maybe things might be better.
38:00Things might be changed.
38:02Right, because we have to try to look for the, the children of this future now.
38:07Because most of them is getting killed very young, very early.
38:16A Northeastern resident, settlement resident, they're giving our views about crime, no doubt, and about the youngsters needing to find something viable rather than get involved in crime.
38:26Yeah, so happy to hear from the young people there in Northeastern settlement, especially a female.
38:33In the interview, you could see the female part speaking about safety and security and what time she cannot go out and what time she has to stay indoors.
38:44And then she made a point about, I think in her summary, she's saying that she believes that jobs will help in the community.
38:53She doesn't believe that high fines are a deterrent, but she's also saying that her community has changed over the years.
39:03And, Mark, what we don't know about the Sangre Grandi area is through expansion, housing expansion, not necessarily the organized official ones, but squatting, has impacted on Sandy Grandi and changed the demographics and changed the culture of Sangre Grandi.
39:22And, you know, over the last few years, Sangre Grandi is now known as one of the hotspots in Trinidad and Tobago.
39:30And the people who lived there for a long time, really, this culture of guns and violence is new to them.
39:38And they speak about it all the time.
39:40We've had missions inside there, several.
39:42Northeastern settlement, Jacob Hill, Jacob Coates settlement, and all these areas.
39:48We've been through all those areas.
39:49All right.
39:52Now you wanted to give us an update.
39:53Yeah, Mark, yes, so that we have one person that we call a regional missing person, but he is Trinidadian, and his name is Thomas Jagisha Vasquez.
40:05He's 21 years, and he's missing in Antigua.
40:09What happened is that Thomas returned to Trinidad on the 6th of April, exactly six months after his period in Antigua.
40:21Right.
40:21And then he returned, and on the 14th, he returned to Trinidad on the 6th, and on the 14th, he left for Antigua.
40:29He arrived there.
40:30It has been confirmed that he arrived in Antigua on the 15th, and that he visited his workplace on the 15th.
40:39Mark Thomas was employed in a legal cannabis farm in Antigua, and that is where he was employed, in a legal cannabis farm in Antigua.
40:54And the information we have been able to gather is that he got to Antigua for another Trinidadian.
41:04Don't want to call his name, and that's how we got up to Antigua to get employment.
41:09And there is an ongoing search for Thomas, and it involves a lot of citizens' group, and the police is involved, and we're thinking about sending a team to Antigua.
41:24I'm not too sure, based on the latest information, if we will still do so.
41:29But I wanted to highlight this case, that this is the case of a missing Trinidadian in Antigua.
41:35All right, well, we're hopeful that you'll be found in the shortest possible time.

43:24What you can't hear is his wife crying inconsolably.
43:28What you don't know is that his four-year-old daughter is standing looking at her father, confused, begging him to wake up.

44:19Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
44:23I'm your host, Mark Bassan, joined today by Captain Valence Rambarath of the Hunter's Search and Rescue Team.
44:29And of course, the .40 borough celebrations was front and center on the weekend.
44:34But there was also an incident in an eating establishment where clearly you would have seen this might have taken place in the hours after the juve, Saturday morning.
44:47Apparently, an altercation between several persons broke out.
44:53The police was calling.
44:55And then, I think, in the aftermath of the fight, some of the persons that were asked to leave the establishment threw missiles at the glass windows and door.
45:11So, you know, police there really had to intervene there because there was some kind of altercation that took place between two men.
45:19And it kept on going even though the police were there.
45:23Exactly.
45:24Security officials.
45:26So, it was juve morning.
45:29So, you know, probably the alcohol and people touching each other.
45:34And, you know, tempers fled.
45:37It was unfortunate.
45:37But I did read subsequently that four persons were arrested for destruction of property, most likely because you have had damaged glass.
45:48Well, I mean, the evidence is visible.
45:50Yeah, sorry.
45:52You know, they're throwing items at the eating establishment.
45:55And, of course, as Mr. Rambarath pointed out, police would have done the work.
45:59Yeah, but I don't know if you have it on the program today, but there was a murder down there, I think, the day before or the night before.
46:10So, a coast guard.
46:12Yes, yes.
46:12Yeah, the coast guard there.
46:13So, I don't know if you ever attended Borough.
46:17Yes, I have.
46:17So, there are three incidents, really.
46:21So, what happens at Borough is a lot of families come to Point 14 from abroad and within Trinidad and they stay by relatives.
46:28So, if I'm your coast guard, if we're working in the coast guard and you are from Point 14, bet your bottom dollar will organize a line to come by your home.
46:36Yep.
46:37Because that's part of the culture of the people of Point 14.
46:41They will invite friends.
46:43And, apparently, that is why the gentleman was down there to celebrate, to have, you know, to enjoy an evening with his friends down in Point 14.
46:54And, unfortunately, he was murdered.
46:56And, then, you came, you mentioned earlier, the next incident where the elderly couple was robbed and assaulted.
47:02Yes, they were assaulted and robbed and beaten.
47:04But, from what I read, it appears to be that when they had dual citizenship, they had U.S. money in it.
47:13Yes.
47:13And, then, so it seems as though they would have returned to, maybe, to enjoy the Borough celebrations.
47:20Of course, yeah.
47:21They took a substantive amount of TT cash, I think, about $15,000 and about $300 U.S. dollars, if memory serves me right.
47:28So, it tells you that they were returning to enjoy the Borough celebration.
47:34Such unfortunate situation.
47:35But, normally, Borough in Point 14 is really a peaceful thing.
47:38I've been to it many times and I enjoyed it.
47:41And, these three incidents highlight the fact that these incidents could flare up at any point in time.
47:48But, I mean, to have a murder, robbery, assault on a woman and the, the, the, the hooligan type behavior of pelting bottles at business places should not be condoned at all.
48:02Yes, definitely.
48:03You asked me if I went to Point and the last time I went to Point, believe it or not, a man was shot and killed in the crowd where I was.
48:11Oh.
48:11Like, that would have been more than about, I'd say, 8 to 10 years ago.
48:158 to 10 years ago.
48:16And, it happened within, I'd say, 500 to 800 meters from where I was.
48:21Oh, yes.
48:22Nothing, just basically, a lot of my friends, we just decided not to go after that for a while.
48:26Not to go after that.
48:27Because, I mean, I can't blame you.
48:28Something like that happens to me.
48:30I wouldn't, I wouldn't return.
48:32But, you know, with these celebrations, we're seeing the, the, the violence associated with the celebrations.
48:42And, it doesn't augur good for culture.
48:43It doesn't augur good for any community.
48:46Definitely.
48:48All right.
48:49So, we were talking about road safety earlier.
48:51And, we showed you two accidents, a fatal accident and another accident.
48:55Unfortunately, there was one along the Eastern Main Road in Laval until yesterday involving a female pedestrian.
49:05Apparently, they were struck by a vehicle hitting the, you know, the, the two persons I see there.
49:13And, they grew up, they grew up, they grew up, they grew up, they were one lying on the floor and a female there.
49:18Yeah.
49:19Certainly, you know, as, you have to exercise caution on the nation's roadways.
49:26And, I know, people cannot, sometimes, in a fleeting moment, try to cross the street, knowing that, that you're coming down the street.
49:33And, you have to be ever so vigilant.
49:35Yeah.
49:36Because, you know, if you, if you don't see them in time, unfortunately.
49:41Somebody was asking whether we, when I was, whether they still teach in school, look left, look right, and then cross the road.
49:48Right?
49:48Right. So, discipline is important, whether you're a pedestrian, you're a driver, or you're a participant in a community, get together.
50:00Discipline is important.
50:02Most certainly.
50:03All right, we're going to take a short break, and we'll be back after this.
50:07See you later.
50:07See you later.
50:07See you later.
50:07See you later.

52:28But Mary forgot one thing.
52:32Second ticket for the day, I don't know, I really don't know.
52:36Well, I tell you.
52:37After two tickets, Mary just isn't paying attention to her speed.
52:42Don't be like Mary.
52:59Obey the laws of the road.
53:01A message from the GTPS.
53:03Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
53:14I'm your host, Mark Bassan, joined today by Captain Valance Rambarat of the Hunter's Search and Rescue team.
53:19And we were talking about that attack with the elderly couple just a while ago.
53:25And one of the things I know that is very, you know, starting to become a worry is that home invasions.
53:33Yeah, home invasions has been a problem for a while.
53:37And during the interviews conducted with the incoming ministers, I heard one of them speak about the home invasion laws.
53:49And I suspect that they may want to, first of all, increase the penalties associated with home invasions.
53:59Because I think it was Minister Alexander was saying that a home is a man's castle.
54:08Yes, he did.
54:09And therefore, you ought to think a hundred times before you want to enter into that home.
54:15And I agree with that.
54:16I agree with that because that's one form of invasion of privacy that cannot be tolerated.
54:23You know, and citizens has to stand up and ensure that, you know, we're able to protect ourselves in our homes.
54:31And so that the criminals must know that they cannot enter people's homes at no time whatsoever in this country.
54:40And I support that view 100% if the penalties could be increased.
54:47But there are other mechanisms.
54:49I know community watch groups has been on the agenda for a long time.
54:54I know in some police divisions, their community WhatsApp groups, which report on any untoward things in the community.
55:06And that would go a long way in helping.
55:09But most of the times, Mark, it is somebody from in the home who would transmit information on to the criminals.
55:18Because when criminals enter a home, they more or less know what they're coming to get.
55:24Yes.
55:24Right?
55:24So when I saw the stash they got with the elderly couple, they had to have information that the persons probably just returned from abroad.
55:34And, you know, would have some things of meaningful value with them, including money.
55:40And that is why the crime was perpetrated on these two elderly folks.
55:44But it must not be tolerated at all.
55:47And we ask people to be careful who you're speaking to and never let down your guard.
55:55Keep some things for yourself because sometimes you could be given out too much information.
56:01And don't be too easily trustful of persons with information with respect to your valuables and what you have and what are your assets.
56:11Keep a small circle of friends and family who you discuss those things with because the criminals will come at you only if they know what you have.
56:23And so as we look at home invasions, we look forward to the laws that would come and so that the deterrent is there and the criminals must be able to look elsewhere.
56:38Yeah, and I know as part of the government's, you know, during the campaign run-up, campaign trail, that is, they did speak about, you know, the acquisition of legal firearms to personnel or citizens.
56:53But, of course, we have to have a measure of discipline with that as well.
56:57So, you know, there's a number of things you have to think about, the training, regulation, education, and look at the data as a security expert in the newspaper speaks today about that.
57:10Yeah, and looking at the data as it relates to other countries where persons are allowed to bear firearms, you know.
57:19Fire firearms, yeah, and I think I agree with you.
57:23It must be a studious approach to looking at whether and how many of our citizens must bear firearms.
57:30Yeah, that's very, very important, you know, in the society where, you know, as you say, guns is something that we frowned upon.
57:38Yeah, we frowned upon.
57:39We don't want to have too many around.
57:41Yes, exactly.
57:42All right.
57:44Repeat tonight at 11.30.
57:46We're running tomorrow at 11 o'clock.
