00:00God knows, I am.
00:04When the whole crowd, like 20,000 people are chanting that at you.
00:06Chanting what?
00:11To Jalen, those are cheers.
00:14Woke up, looking for the Barkley.
00:16Punching coming up big.
00:18A lot of pushing and jumping.
00:19This is exactly what playoff basketball should be.
00:22Come out punching, come out with aggression.
00:30Another game on Sunday, and we'll see who does it down.
00:35The Detroit Pistons, they have not won a home playoff game since 2008.
00:41The New York Knicks are trying to stop them from snapping that streak today.
00:47Can Detroit even up this series?
00:48It's time now for Pick and Roll, brought to you by ESPN Bet Sportsbook.

01:03So, weatherman Stephen A. Smith, is it going to be orange and blue skies in Detroit today,
01:08or do the Pistons protect home court?
01:09I think the Pistons protect home court.
01:11Orange and blue skies will take place Tuesday night.
01:14Okay.
01:14And any night beyond that in all likelihood.
01:17But this particular day, I think that the Pistons understand what's at stake.
01:21I think that the Knicks came and got what they came for in winning game three
01:24and reclaiming home court advantage.
01:26And I think the pedal that they had, you know, their pedal to the metal on Friday,
01:31I don't think that's going to exist today.
01:32I think Detroit wins.
01:34Well, I agree with you, Stephen.
01:36I agree with you.
01:37You want me to say that, right?
01:38I proved that message.
01:38Yeah, I see.
01:39There you go.
01:39The margin for error or the gap between these two teams, Malik, is not great.
01:44And I just don't see the Knicks coming and winning two games in Detroit.
01:47It's a very good Detroit team.
01:49It's a proud Detroit team.
01:50They have an identity.
01:51They're physical.
01:52They're tough.
01:52That guy right there knows how to close.
01:54And seeing another great game from Brunson and Towns, I'm not sure that's going to happen
01:59again on the road.
02:02Pigs get full and hogs get slaughtered.
02:06Okay?
02:07Hey, listen.
02:07Here's the thing.
02:09Tonight, these young hogs and the Detroit Pistons get slaughtered.
02:13The Knicks get – they're the pigs.
02:15They get full.
02:16Listen, they're going to get greedy tonight.
02:18They're going to get greedy today, this afternoon.
02:21They're going in there and get this win.
02:23I think Carl Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson, the two-man game, what they played great in
02:28in the last game, they're going to continue to hop on that and shine in that.
02:32Well, first of all, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
02:34Not only do I have a problem with his prediction today, I have a problem with you sitting up here
02:39on national television and trying to act like you came up with that saying when your uncle
02:44gave it to you last night.
02:45I'm still trying to understand what you're saying.
02:48You don't take credit from your uncle.
02:50You can't take any questions from your uncle.
02:52I ain't got to give him nothing.
02:53So your uncle going to give you that to say and you don't even give him some love on national
02:56television?
02:56What is it?
02:56Pigs make bacon and hogs?
02:58No, no, no, no, no, no.
03:00Pigs get full.
03:02Hogs get slaughtered.
03:03I know, but I didn't know who was, which was which.
03:07The hogs are the, you know, no, the pigs are the hogs.
03:10What's the difference between a pig and a hog?
03:12Look, because here's the thing, Bob.
03:15All right.
03:15You think they just came in to get one game to catch a home court?
03:19No, they came in to get one.
03:20I got it.
03:21I don't really know, but I think the Detroit Pistons are going to.
03:25I like my mix associated with pig.
03:25I'm going to pick the New York.
03:27You guys are confusing.
03:28I'm going to pick the Detroit Pistons in this game.
03:30And the guy, the guy perk that I'm going to be watching is Asar Thompson.
03:34It seems like they've wanted to put Thompson on Brunson here, but he keeps getting in foul
03:39trouble.
03:39He's picked up 15 fouls in this series.
03:42Let's see if he can stay out of it.
03:43Be on Brunson a little bit more and see which pig and hog end up at the bacon.
03:49He's going to have 20 fouls after the day.
03:51It's no stopping Jalen Brunson.
03:53He lived for these moments.
03:54He's been the best player in this series.
03:56He's going to be great this afternoon.
03:58Carl Anthony Towns is not going to allow Tobias Harris to go.
04:02And look, no Isaiah Stewart.
04:04No Isaiah Stewart tonight.
04:06Carl Anthony Towns is going to have it his way and baby Pippen is going to do his thing.
04:10Okay.
04:10I'm not going to be mad if you're right.
04:12I mean, that just means I'm going to be at the garden Tuesday night for the closeout.
04:16Are you going to be there no matter what or just for the closeout?
04:18I'll be there.
04:18Okay.
04:19I'll be there.
04:19It's time to get it out to Detroit for tip off of this game.
04:23One more time.
04:24Hogs get slaughtered.
04:25We got it.
04:26All right, Tim Leichler, Katie George, Dave Pasch on the call.
04:29Dave Pasch, take it away.
04:31Malcolm, no, I love him.
04:3317 long years since the Pistons won a home playoff game.
04:38Detroit looks to change that today at Little Caesars Arena and even its series with the Knicks
04:43in the 3-6 matchup in the Eastern Conference.
04:46Welcome to Game 4.
04:48New York up two games to one.
04:50Jalen Brunson, the hero of the Game 3 win here Thursday.
04:53He and Karl-Anthony Towns combined for 61 points.
04:57But can they stop budding superstar Cade Cunningham and the Pistons here in Game 4?
05:03Winner of this series plays either Boston or Orlando.
05:07Celtics up 2-1.
05:08Cleveland trying to sweep Miami tomorrow.
05:11Game 4, Pacers and Bucs later tonight.
05:14And hi, everybody, Dave Pasch, Tim Leichler, and Katie George.
05:17Well, Jalen Brunson lives for these moments, doesn't he, Isaiah?
05:22You know all about that, Zeke.
05:24Jalen Brunson's at his best when the game is on the line.
05:28And we saw that on full display here in Game 3.
05:30Oh, we definitely did.
05:31Listen, true stars find a way to get it done when their teams need it most.
05:35Jalen Brunson has proven that.
05:37And if the game is tight today in the fourth quarter, we know where the ball is going to be.
05:42Jalen Brunson has no problem deciding matters.
05:45And you see what he's done in the first three fourth quarters of this series.
05:49More than 12 points in each of those.
05:51And every one of those points important for the Knicks as they have now taken a 2-1 lead in this series.
05:57On the other side, the Pistons weren't supposed to be here.
05:5914 wins last year, 44 this year.
06:02Cade Cunningham has lifted the spirits of this team, of this fan base, of this city as we look at our playoff tracker, brought to you by Progressive.
06:10Well, he has more than delivered in his first taste of the playoffs.
06:14Three consecutive 20-point double-doubles of one variety or another.
06:19Cade Cunningham represents that maturity and poise that the Pistons young players need.
06:24And you may need to see Cade Cunningham at his very best to get this series even going back to New York.
06:29And with more, let's check in with Cady.
06:32Well, Dave, Thursday night was Detroit's first playoff game in this arena since 2019.
06:37J.B. Bickerstaff said playing in your first playoff game at home comes with different pressures.
06:41This crowd was unbelievable.
06:43So sometimes you get caught up in the emotions, the pressure of trying to please your fans and keep them engaged.
06:49Bickerstaff said it took the Pistons a while to settle in the other night.
06:52So they were fighting an uphill battle in game three.
06:55But now that they've experienced it once, he expects better.
06:58He said getting off to a great start is huge for us to play steady.
07:02And that's exactly what we need to tie this thing at 2-2, Dave.
07:05And Cade, teams that lead 3-1 go on to win this series 95% of the time.
07:11So Detroit knows how important this is.
07:13Meanwhile, the Knicks having a block party looking to celebrate a win.
07:16This presentation of the NBA playoffs will continue after these messages and a word from our ABC stations.

07:46You bet.
07:47Is it a little chippy?
07:48You got it.
07:49It's like a vintage Eastern Conference playoff match.
07:52You play in the city of Detroit.
07:53You get that grin and still, then you go out there and play like this.
07:56That's playoff basketball.
07:57It's going to be physical, and that's fine.
07:59It's trying to be force with force.
08:01I just did.
08:03Brunson back to back.
08:05Captain Crunch Dive does it again.
08:07It's on my shoulders.
08:08I just got to put my team in position to win.
08:09All the other stuff doesn't really matter.
08:11Yeah!
08:13Swag on infinity.
08:14I'm killing them.
08:15See the white flag from the enemy.
08:18That's what we have to do every game.
08:19Come out, punch it.
08:21Behind the back move by Adrian.
08:23Detroit basketball.
08:25There you go.
08:26There you go.
08:28The competitive disdain increases as the series goes on.
08:32We'll show up Sunday.
08:33We're going to lay it on the line.
08:34We're going to fight like hell and see what happens.
08:35We're going to fight like hell and see what happens.
08:38We're going to fight like hell and see what happens.
08:39We're going to fight like hell and see what happens.
08:40We're going to fight like hell and see what happens.
08:40Welcome to the NBA playoffs presented by Google.
08:44Game four, Knicks-Pistons-New York of two games to one.
08:49It's the first round presented by ESPN Bet Sportsbook.
08:53One of the most anticipated games in the history of Little Caesars Arena.
08:58The Pistons trying to even this best-of-seven first-round series with the Knicks.
09:04New York's last home playoff win came at the Palace in Auburn Hills May 13, 2008.
09:12The starting lineups brought to you by Capital One.
09:15This starting five played the most minutes together in the NBA during the regular season
09:20and here in the playoffs.
09:21Brunson, Bridges, who's playing his 599th straight game.
09:25Hart, and Anobi, who will guard Kate Cunningham and Carl Anthony Towns.
09:31For the Pistons, Cunningham, his fourth NBA season.
09:35An all-star this year, 23 years old.
09:37Another young standout, Anasar Thompson and Jalen Duren.
09:41And veterans, Tim Hardaway, Jr. and Tobias Harris.
09:44Hardaway at 24 points in game three to help keep the Pistons in the game.
09:52Kate Cunningham averaging 26 points per game.
09:55Nine assists, eight rebounds in this series.
09:59The potential Most Improved Player Award winner.
10:02That will be announced soon.
10:05And Jalen Brunson, no stranger to these moments.
10:08This will be his 53rd career playoff game.
10:10Went to a conference finals with the Mavs in 2022.
10:14Carl Anthony Towns was there last year with Minnesota.
10:17They lost to the Mavs.
10:18Can he get the Knicks to a place they haven't been in 25 years?
10:23That was their last trip to the conference finals.
10:25They haven't even won consecutive road games in a single series since 1999.
10:30We do a lot of games at a lot of venues, but there is something special when you walk in here.
10:44Just given the history of these two franchises, there is a palpable level of intensity
10:50at a different level pregame for a one o'clock start here for game four.
10:54A ton of luminaries in the building as well.
11:00Some of the biggest names in NBA history.
11:03We just saw one of them crash our party.
11:05Isaiah Thomas at the top of this show.
11:09You got Chris Webber in the building.
11:12Patrick Ewing is here.
11:14Spike Lee, of course.
11:16And many more stars we'll show you throughout the night.
11:18Even Dan Campbell, the head coach of the Detroit Lions, his quarterback Jared Goff finds another successful draft.
11:31Great season here in Detroit.
11:34The Pistons trying to match him.
11:36But they got to win this one to avoid a 1-3 hole with game five in New York on Tuesday.
11:42It'll be Duren and Towns.
11:58And the Knicks will start with possession.
12:01And Brunson booed three seconds into the game.
12:05He was getting taunted throughout the game by Piston fans on Thursday.
12:09Got a flagrant foul called on him against Hardaway.
12:13Here's Towns, and he scores on the first possession.
12:16Well, Karl-Anthony Towns got going early in game three from the perimeter.
12:21They come right to him in the low post.
12:23Little cross screen.
12:24He catches it in a sweet spot down low.
12:29Here's Thompson and Josh Hart.
12:32Excellent defender on him.
12:34Shot clock down to four.
12:36Harris.
12:37Blocked by Towns.
12:38Good defense by the Knicks.
12:40And an Obie in transition.
12:41And he takes it all the way for the slam.
12:51Knicks got off to a good start in game three.
12:54Ended up leading by 13 at halftime.
12:57It's been feast or famine for Hardaway.
12:58We talked about that great game three.
13:00He was scoreless in game two.
13:02Empty possession for Detroit.
13:04Hart downhill.
13:05Hangs.
13:05Can't finish.
13:06Well, Knicks have come out with the right level of force defensively.
13:10Big stop at the rim.
13:12Defensive rebound.
13:13Jalen Durin able to get the Pistons on the board with that foot back.
13:18Had three offensive rebounds Durin did in game three.
13:20Eight rebounds at all.
13:21Entry pass to Ann and Obie couldn't handle it.
13:32Poked back out to Hart.
13:33Shot clock at four.
13:34Bridges deadly from the corner.
13:36But off the mark there on the three.
13:37Cunningham with Bridges.
13:44Drawing the assignment early on.
13:45They doubled and forced the pass.
13:47Durin underneath.
13:48And the stuff from Thompson.
13:51Well, that high ball screen with Kate Cunningham is going to be a big part of what happens here today.
13:57He draws to Jalen Durin.
13:59Very good on the short roll in making decisions.
14:02Fonce Thompson along the baseline.
14:05At the controversial finish here the other night.
14:08In game three and a two-point win.
14:11Knicks thought, or the Pistons thought, rather, there should have been a backcourt violation by Jalen Brunson.
14:16But the league said no, confirming the official's call.
14:19And an Obie misses the shot.
14:20Detroit can take its first lead.
14:25Cunningham.
14:25Deep three.
14:29And out of bounds to New York.
14:32Yeah, Kate Cunningham just controls the action at his pace.
14:36When he draws two, they really trust Durin to handle the ball in the middle of the floor on those dives.
14:42If he doesn't have a shot at the rim, very capable at making that interior pass for something better.
14:52Brunson averaging 34 points per game in this series so far.
14:5632 points per game last year in the run to the conference semis.
15:01Towns missing that time.
15:02Pistons looking to push.
15:04Durin ahead to Harris.
15:05He'll attack.
15:06Contact with Brunson.
15:07No whistle.
15:08Basket gives Detroit the lead.
15:11Really important for Tobias.
15:12Harris to have a good start to this game.
15:14You remember what he did in the first half of game one?
15:17Been quieter since.
15:19He had just five points as Towns banks it in and has something to say to Harris.
15:25Harris wasn't on the floor a ton, though, because of foul trouble in game three.
15:29Cunningham's pass tapped out by Thompson.
15:31Now Harris, no good on the triple try.
15:33And an Obie hits the deck.
15:35And they're going to call a foul inside on Durin.
15:38And J.B.
15:39Bickerstaff, potential coach of the year in the NBA, does not like the call.
15:43Clapping back at the crew chief, David Guthrie.
15:46Well, J.B.
15:47Bickerstaff didn't like the call, but Jalen Durin, as he was walking up the floor, was
15:51nodding his head as he looked over at us.
15:53As you can see right there, gets a hold of Ananobi's jersey just as he's trying to get
15:58off the floor, very easy to pull some guy off balance when you grab him in that state.
16:05We talked with Asar Thompson before the game about the challenge of defending Brunson.
16:09He says he has to be more disciplined.
16:11And Brunson that time went away from the screen.
16:14And they get the basket inside to go up two.
16:16And Jalen Brunson took advantage of an opportunity, gets into the lane.
16:19That back line, all three defenders got caught staring at Brunson.
16:24Josh Hart just read that cut perfectly.
16:27No attempts yet for Brunson, shooting, but he does have two assists.
16:31And a turnover by the Pistons.
16:33Thompson and Harris couldn't connect.
16:36Turnovers have been a problem for the Pistons in this series, averaging 17 a game.
16:40And you understand the physicality is going to cause some.
16:43That one just completely unforced on an entry pass to the wing.
16:47Now Brunson almost turned it over on the sideline.
16:50Here's Ananobi, lobs underneath, Bridges, good catch.
16:53Brunson, and you saw better discipline from Thompson not going for the punt fake,
16:59but they still get a basket.
17:01Third assist by Brunson as Bridges puts it in.
17:03Similar action.
17:05Brunson is down there drawing the attention visually of everybody on Detroit's weak side.
17:10So Bridges takes advantage of a weak side cut.
17:13Floater from Cunningham around and down.
17:15Kay Cunningham's first points.
17:17That ends a 6-0 New York run.
17:21Fans continue to boo Brunson when he brings it up the floor.
17:25On the switch now, you've got Thompson trying to defend Towns on the low block.
17:29And Towns can't get the ball to roll home.
17:33And Duren cleans it up inside.
17:37Duren a behind-the-back dribble.
17:38And Bridges, a great save.
17:41Numbers for the Knicks.
17:43Ananobi underneath.
17:44Missed the layup.
17:45Hit the floor.
17:47Bodies everywhere.
17:48Out of bounds.
17:49And they're going to say New York ball.
17:50New York ball.
17:56Well, the emotion and the physicality is here early.
17:59Everything that we expected.
18:01Cade Cunningham knows he's going to have to deliver today for the Pistons to even the series.
18:11The officials are still looking at this.
18:14The on-court ruling is Knicks basketball.
18:16Does it touch the back of the hand of Towns or the back of the hand of Hart who poked it free?
18:23Or is it off of Cunningham?
18:24This is potentially huge for the Pistons because in the NBA,
18:29you only get a second challenge if your first one is correct
18:32and J.B. Bickerstaff electing to use that challenge five minutes into the game.
18:37And you have to have indisputable video evidence to overturn it.
18:41Here's David Guthrie.
18:41There is no proximate illegal contact on the play.
18:44The ball was last touched by Cunningham as it went out of bounds.
18:47So the call on the floor will stand.
18:49Detroit will be out of challenges for the rest of the night.
18:52So the other thing they're looking at was that they're a foul on Josh Hart.
18:55They can call a proximate foul on Hart for Towns,
18:58but you heard David Guthrie, the crew chief, say no illegal contact.
19:01So no challenges the rest of the game for Detroit.
19:04And I think the reason J.B. Bickerstaff went with that challenge
19:08was because of how emphatic Cade Cunningham was.
19:11And a lot of times you're a head coach and your star player is that emphatic
19:15about wanting a challenge.
19:16You go with it because you think about it.
19:18It's a 10-8 game, fairly innocuous play here early.
19:21But now Pistons have to go without a challenge.
19:25Four of the five Knicks starters have scored.
19:28Brunson's the one who hasn't until now.
19:30Jalen Brunson with his first shot of the game.
19:33He also has three early assists.
19:35That's his favorite mid-range shot on the floor.
19:37Going right, dipping with the left shoulder to get you back on your heels
19:41before he gathers and releases.
19:44Sixth man runner-up.
19:46Malik Beasley on the floor.
19:47They need more out of him.
19:48He struggled shooting it in the series.
19:50Tim Hardaway Jr. way off.
19:52Out of bounds.
19:54And the Pistons 0-4 from three.
19:56I mean, Jalen Brunson basically relies on footwork, strength, IQ,
20:00and great shooting touch.
20:01And you can see when he drives you back with that shoulder,
20:05very difficult to then be able to contest that honestly.
20:09Tom Thibodeau, the head coach of the Knicks,
20:10says Brunson's confidence comes from his preparation.
20:15Works as hard as anybody off the floor as he does.
20:18On it.
20:19Here's Towns out to Hart, left alone, straight on three.
20:22That's good.
20:23Josh Hart hits the first three of the game for either team,
20:26and it's a seven-point New York lead.
20:28He's been selective about the three-point attempt in this series.
20:31Only two for four coming in.
20:33I think the Pistons will live with that.
20:36Ball off the foot, and they're going to say kick.
20:39It took a while, but finally the whistle blows.
20:41He's kicked ball, so it'll be Detroit possession with 14 on the shot clock.
20:53And you see clearly Towns kicking the ball with his right leg there.
20:57Well, the Knicks have made five of their last seven shots.
21:01Meanwhile, Detroit, four of ten, yet to make a three.
21:05Cunningham, looking to drive, spinning, lost, and an OB, but missed the shot.
21:09And Durant gets the offensive rebound.
21:11And then turns it over.
21:14Three on two for the Knicks.
21:16Brunson on the spot up, lets it fly, and buries a three.
21:20The Knicks lead it by ten.
21:23Couple of careless turnovers by the Pistons early in this game.
21:27Another offensive rebound by Durant.
21:29That time he slams it back.
21:32Well, he certainly has come ready to play on the glass on both ends of the floor.
21:36Jalen Durant doing his part, trying to settle the Pistons here early.
21:40Cross-court feed, hard extra pass, two bridges in the corner.
21:44Shot clock inside of ten.
21:49Pass by Hart over the head of Annanoby.
21:52And the first turnover of the game by the Knicks.
21:54Detroit is five turnovers so far.
21:57Again, the carelessness right there.
21:58That's just a simple situation where Cade Cunningham is trying to get the ball.
22:02And now, if the Knicks have numbers in the open floor,
22:05if Brunson doesn't have the ball,
22:07he is going to flare out every time.
22:10He's already gotten a couple to go early,
22:12so you know he's feeling it.
22:14Pistons have to be much better with ball security in the half court.
22:16Already like seven points off of those five Detroit turnovers for the Knicks.
22:22Cunningham.
22:24To Dennis Schroeder,
22:25who's been the second best offensive player for the Pistons in this series,
22:29right on cue with a bank shot from a tough angle.
22:32What a tough shot,
22:34and he was trying to draw a foul with that head fake.
22:38Didn't get that call,
22:39but takes a tough angle for the bank shot.
22:41He's averaging 15 points per game in the series.
22:44Hart another three,
22:45and he hits another one.
22:47Josh Hart with two triples in the game.
22:50He made 33% during the regular season,
22:53but does not shoot many of them.
22:55Better than 50% so far from three in the series.
22:58And another Piston turnover.
23:01That pass from Cunningham.
23:02Too hot to handle.
23:03Cunningham had six turnovers in the game.
23:06Three loss.

23:22The story of this game here early
23:24is the Detroit Pistons turning the basketball over.
23:28They've got to settle down offensively
23:30to give their defense a chance in the half court.
23:32Knicks playing with an advantage
23:34off of those turnovers with numbers early up the floor.
23:38Foul on the Knicks is their first.
23:40And Detroit was such an improved defensive team
23:43from a year ago.
23:44They were 25th in defense last year.
23:46Bickerstaff takes over,
23:47and all of a sudden they're number 10th
23:49in defense this year.
23:51The Knicks are also an outstanding defensive team.
23:56They called Schroeder for the foul.
23:58Here's Brunson.
24:00Schroeder trying to stay with him.
24:01Pull-up jumper.
24:02Short.
24:03And rebounded by Beasley.
24:05Pistons ball trailing by nine.
24:083.45 to go in the opening quarter.
24:10Cunningham lost it.
24:11Another giveaway.
24:12And numbers for the Knicks.
24:14Deuce McBride ahead.
24:15A three-on-one.
24:16A lob to Ananobi.
24:17Couldn't tip it in.
24:18But Brunson gets the offensive rebound.
24:21Here's McBride.
24:22And that's a great sign for the Knicks
24:24because he has not been able to score very often
24:27in this series.
24:27Just four points per game
24:29as opposed to 10 during the regular season.
24:33And Miles McBride gives the Knicks
24:36a 12-point lead late in the first.
24:39When you think about NBA toughness and physicality,
24:45you often think about these two teams from the 80s and 90s.
24:49They had some terrific series back then,
24:51the Pistons and the Knicks.
24:52Many of the NBA's biggest stars played for one of these two franchises.
24:57And many of them are here,
24:58including the great Patrick Ewing, 11-time All-Star.
25:02Isaiah Thomas, Ben Wallace, Mr. Big Shot,
25:06the current head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers,
25:09here as well.
25:11The current Knicks look pretty good,
25:14leading the Pistons 24-12.
25:17Detroit staying in the game with a rebound.
25:19Duren has nine, three offensive rebounds.
25:21Imagine the score if he wasn't getting rebounds
25:23because the Pistons are struggling offensively.
25:26Beasley misses.
25:26Another putback, this time by Paul Reed with us, Jan.
25:30And I love the aggressiveness from Malik Beasley immediately
25:34coming off that down screen into a curl action.
25:37And J.B. Bickerstaff talked about getting Malik Beasley
25:39something other than a three
25:41to get his hands on the basketball early
25:43when he checks in the game.
25:44They did it right there.
25:45Mitchell Robinson on the floor.
25:47He was questionable due to illness
25:48as Brunson three is off target.
25:50Battle for the loose ball.
25:52And Detroit has it.
25:53Cunningham going to post up on Brunson.
25:58Skip to Beasley.
26:00He'll let it fly.
26:01And he front-rimmed it.
26:02Beasley just three for his last 19 from behind the arc.
26:06During the season, he was number two in the league
26:09and made threes behind Anthony Edwards.
26:11Brunson crafting off glass.
26:13And the lead back to 12.
26:15And I'm not sure there's a more important player
26:17to the Detroit Pistons in this series
26:19than Malik Beasley.
26:21Those nights when he gets hot
26:22and he gives you that additional 15 to 25 points.
26:27Scoring punch really helps Cade Cunningham
26:29and it makes you guard him differently.
26:31Now they got Harris on the smaller Brunson.
26:33He rises up over him, but he was short
26:35and rebounded by Brunson.
26:38Seven points, five assists, two rebounds for Brunson.
26:41Here, ten minutes into the game.
26:44Hard lobs broken up by Malik Beasley
26:47and into the arms of Harris.
26:49Harris racing into the forecourt.
26:54Schroeder returns it to Harris, who's mauled by Brunson.
26:58Excellent execution by Detroit.
27:00Free throws coming up.
27:03Third team foul.
27:05Check it's on the Knicks.
27:06First team foul on the Knicks.
27:07Jalen Brunson, again, just getting to those spots that he loves
27:11and driving that defense back on their heels.
27:16He's had his way here early offensively.
27:19Now we need to see who is going to respond to that for the Pistons offensively.
27:24Harris just one of five.
27:26He was two of nine from the floor in game three,
27:28but you saw by those numbers,
27:30they were much better when he was actually on the court
27:32because he was in foul trouble throughout that game.
27:34NBA playoff schedule brought to you by PNC Bank.
27:37Coming up next on ABC,
27:38can the Lakers even their series with the Wolves in Minnesota?
27:42It's 2-1 T-Wolves.
27:43Then tonight on TNT,
27:45Boston trying to go up 3-1,
27:46and so is Indiana in Milwaukee.
27:48For more, go to NBA.com or visit the NBA app.
27:51We'll see if Luka is healthy.
27:53He was not well physically the other night,
27:56and that certainly impacted the Lakers.
27:59Boy, Jade McDaniels was sensational for Minnesota in game three.
28:0510-point New York lead
28:07as Harris gets both free throws for Detroit.
28:1190 seconds to go in the opening quarter.
28:14Here's Deuce McBride looking to shake Beasley.
28:17Hart already hit a couple of threes.
28:19Hart again, and this time a different result.
28:22Fatted around Robinson,
28:24and he's fouled on the putback trot.
28:26He'll go to the line.
28:29Third team foul.
28:30First, though, in the last two minutes,
28:31so one more would mean a penalty situation.
28:35Tom Reed is first.
28:37Well, different look for Josh Hart this time.
28:39Contestant three misses it,
28:41but you see Mitchell Robinson really just using his length.
28:44Paul Reed with inside position,
28:45but Mitchell Robinson, a significant advantage in reach,
28:49was able to secure that without coming over the back.
28:53Robinson, an important player in the Knicks rotation,
28:57but he's been battling injuries the last couple years.
29:00Only played in 17 games this season.
29:03In those games, he did shoot close to 70% from the line,
29:06but that one didn't look good right there.
29:07We have not seen Precious at Chua at all in this series.
29:16The bench, as you look at Precious,
29:20who has played an 18-career playoff game,
29:22started a couple for the Knicks last year.
29:26Tom Thibodeau doesn't play a lot of guys off the bench.
29:30In fact, Dennis Schroeder has outscored the Knick bench
29:33in this series by himself.
29:34Malik Beasley alertly that time coming in from the three-point line
29:38to rebound that long miss after watching the first Robinson miss.
29:43Minute to go here in the first.
29:44Beasley gets past his man, got knocked down,
29:48lost the ball, shot clock at four.
29:49Reed not even looking to score.
29:51Out to Harris with two.
29:52Harris over Towns, and rebound Brunson, his third.
29:58Pistons 0 for 6 from three-point range.
30:01Knicks are 4 of 7.
30:02Brunson trying to make it 5 of 8.
30:04Off the heel.
30:06There's Robinson again.
30:07Throws it away to Schroeder.
30:08The Pistons looking to run.
30:10No look pass to Harris.
30:12And a foul call.
30:17Nothing that's happened for Detroit once they cross half court
30:20has been smooth in this game.
30:23So it's critical that they have opportunities to get out and run.
30:26It's a big part of what their identity is.
30:29We know they've got the tough defense.
30:30The reason it's so important is because it allows them to get out and play in transition.
30:35Right now the half court offense struggling.
30:37Dennis Schroeder pushes the issue.
30:39And Tobias Harris gets rewarded.
30:43Tobias Harris with the basket.
30:45He's mic'd up.
30:46Right now we're playing sped up basketball.
30:48There's no reason for us to be sped up.
30:50We know who they are.
30:52Right?
30:52We know we can get to our spots and do what we need to do.
30:55We've got five turnovers that are self-inflicted.
30:57It's got nothing to do with them.
30:59Let's just settle ourselves down.
31:01We'll be fine.
31:03J.B.
31:04Bickerstaff mic'd up.
31:05Head coach for the Pistons.
31:06Great chance to win coach of the year.
31:08The seventh season as a head coach was for the Cavaliers last year.
31:12Let go.
31:13The Pistons hired him.
31:14Detroit has won 30 more games than it did a year ago.
31:18Had their first winning season since 2016.
31:20Brunson gets it across the timeline being harassed by Schroeder.
31:25Brunson into traffic.
31:26Puts it off.
31:27Missed the shot.
31:28Another offensive rebound.
31:29That was kept alive by Robinson.
31:32McBride's three.
31:33No.
31:33Robinson again keeping it alive.
31:35Hart trying to save it and throws it.
31:38Almost a backcourt violation.
31:40Knicks keep possession.
31:42Shot clock at six.
31:43Towns for three from the corner.
31:45And the Knicks back up 11 with eight seconds to go in the quarter.
31:51They're not great defensive possessions unless you secure the defensive rebound.
31:55You cannot get the miss.
31:56Holland missed it at the rim.
31:57But a foul with eight-tenths of a second left.
32:00So free throws coming up here for Detroit again.
32:04Three opportunities for the Knicks on that last possession.
32:07Eventually, somebody's cashing in.
32:09Carl Anthony Towns did.
32:11Pistons very aggressive going the other direction and back to the line.
32:14But first on Robinson.
32:17Rookie Ron Holland.
32:19Fifth pick in the draft.
32:21Averaging just two points per game in the series.
32:24And that was his first free throw attempt in this series.
32:30Knicks have an interesting balance of really young players and veterans.
32:35One of the things that Trajan Langdon, president of basketball operations,
32:38and J.B. Bickerstaff wanted to do was complement that youth with players like Hardaway, Schroeder, and Harris.
32:44And it's worked very well.
32:45Second free throw, no good.
32:47And the first quarter comes to an end.
32:49The Knicks leading by ten.
32:51Carl Anthony Towns with his first three of the game.
32:54One of five triples for the Knicks.
32:56The Pistons had no threes in that first quarter.
32:59Access brought to you by Popeyes.
33:08We're on the sidelines with Tom Thibodeau.
33:10Tibbs, what did you think of the defensive force you guys started this captain?
33:13Yeah, we've got to keep the pressure on them.
33:14We've got to fly around.
33:15We have to have a second and third effort.
33:17And we've got to play with a lot of toughness.
33:19You guys are getting a lot of second chance points.
33:21What do you think of the efforts on the glass so far?
33:22Yeah, we know the rebounding is the key.
33:24It's a big key to this game.
33:25So we've got to keep going.
33:26We've got to keep putting bodies on people.
33:27Thanks, Tim.
33:29Katie, eight second chance points on six offensive rebounds.
33:34Meanwhile, that inbound pass, it was knocked out of bounds by campaign off of a Piston.
33:40So it's New York ball.
33:42Talk about self-inflicted.
33:44J.B. Bickerstaff told his team there's another one.
33:47Can't even inbound the ball to start the quarter.
33:49Rough start for the Pistons.
33:51Durin got a piece of that shot by Bridges.
33:54The Pistons have as many turnovers as field goals in this game so far.
33:57Seven.
33:59But only trailed by ten.
34:00Harris on the pull-up.
34:01No.
34:02And Towns tracks down the loose ball.
34:06Campaign in his tenth year was great in the fourth quarter during that 21-nothing run by the Knicks to come from behind to beat Detroit.
34:14Foul called on Harris on the reach-in, and Towns will go to the line.
34:17And Tobias Harris has played Carl Anthony Towns well, but he got into foul trouble the other night.
34:25And here you see Carl Anthony Towns took the contact to Tobias Harris.
34:31Tobias Harris, he has to give a little more ground right there as Carl Anthony Towns is going into that jump shot.
34:36When you're going to go ahead and lean back with just as much force, the offensive player times it right.
34:41He's going to get that call every time.
34:43We talked about the turnovers.
34:45We talked about offensive rebounding.
34:47What else stood out to you, Legs, about that first quarter?
34:49Well, I think Detroit's got to make some threes.
34:51They're wild cards for this team.
34:53When you look at Tim Hardaway Jr., Malik Beasley, I'd even put Tobias Harris into that category.
34:58Cade Cunningham, a capable three-point shooter.
35:01Very difficult to win in this league with no production from the three-point line,
35:05and that's exactly what afflicted the Pistons in the first quarter, primarily because of the sloppiness with the ball.
35:11It is interesting, in the game they've won in this series, they did only make six threes,
35:15but hard to live that way in today's NBA, making less than ten and trying to win a playoff game.
35:20Cade Cunningham, by the way, did not take a three in that first quarter.
35:23In fact, he only had two points, no assists, two turnovers.
35:27Harris was 0 for 2 from three, Hardaway 0 for 2, Beasley 0 for 1.
35:32Lead back to 12, matching the largest for the Knicks with Towns now at nine points on the day.
35:38Knicks trying to go a 3-1 in the series.
35:42Shot clock at one, Harris has to hoist it as the buzzer sounds, and it's a 24-second violation.
35:49Everything they're doing right now is taking too long to develop.
35:53They ran Beasley off a couple of screens by the time he got it, the clock was deep.
35:58McBride's three short, and Harris able to block out Towns and get the defensive rebound.
36:03Holland hitting some minutes here at the start of the second quarter, as he did at the end of the first.
36:11Beasley trying to get free, spinning on Payne, driving all the way, and gets the layup to go.
36:17That's a great counter by Beasley, because he has no space on the catch right now.
36:22Able to show some creativity in putting it down all the way to the rim.
36:24And Vickerstaff told us before the game, if he gets an early two, that should unlock him from deep.
36:30We'll see if that's the case.
36:32Towns driving again on Harris.
36:34A lot of contact.
36:35Shot's no good.
36:36Beasley rebounds.
36:37Beasley will pull up for three, and off the front rim, but back to Beasley for another try, another miss, another chance.
36:51Offensive rebound, Holland.
36:53Schroeder fakes it.
36:54Now Holland on the cross.
36:56Tried to bounce it underneath, and turnover number nine by Detroit.
37:01They're 0 for 9 from 3, and 33% overall from the floor.
37:07One.
37:12Rich is on the face up, goes baseline, the skip to McBride.
37:16Shot clock at 5.
37:17McBride's 3 off the mark.
37:19New York's done a nice job of getting the ball to the other side of the floor when Detroit floods the zone on these drives.
37:27The Bistons have lost eight straight home playoff games.
37:31The NBA record is 9.
37:32Here's Beasley for three, around and out again.
37:36So Beasley's 0 for 4 here today from three, three for his last 22.
37:41And 0 for 10 as a team from the three-point line for Detroit.
37:45McBride has it knocked out of bounds, but a foul call.
37:48They're going to get Holland for the hack.
37:51His first.
37:52Second on Detroit here in the quarter.
38:02As you watch this replay, Lex, this is such, look like contact after the ball was dislodged to McBride that time by Holland.
38:11But, and clearly there you see to the head.
38:14To have one team making five threes, you've made none.
38:18And prior to that free throw, it's only a 10-point game.
38:20In today's NBA, sometimes you're down 20 at that point.
38:23No production from the three-point line.
38:26Nine turnovers.
38:27So that's nine possessions.
38:28You don't even get an opportunity to shoot the basketball.
38:32To find yourself now in a situation down 11.
38:36Not going to say J.B. Bickerstaff is grateful for that, but it certainly could be much worse.
38:41It's been the worst offensive half for Detroit in a long time.
38:46I mean, they were so good towards the end of the regular season.
38:49Lost some games down the stretch when guys were sitting out and the sixth seed was wrapped up.
38:52Now this is unusual, and Cade Punningham, with Ananobi on him, has had trouble getting going.
38:58He finds Duren, the skip to Holland, he hesitated.
39:02Wanted no part of that three, so he drives.
39:04And almost throws it away, shot clock at two.
39:07Holland's got to put it up, another turnover.
39:10The 10th, they have just eight baskets.
39:14And Ron Holland really struggling right now.
39:16You saw the way the Knicks closed out against him differently.
39:19You're going to give Holland space.
39:20He's not looking to take that shot.
39:23But he's having a hard time right now off the dribble, completing passes because of the Knicks' activity level.
39:29Four turnovers in three minutes in this quarter and only one field goal for Detroit.
39:34Knicks up 12 and matches their largest lead of the game.
39:37They lead this series two games to one.
39:41Knocked away, Holland, and then a foul on Towns.
39:43Duren didn't like that, and now you see Cade Cunningham coming in to shove Holland out of the way.
39:48He didn't want him to pick up an unnecessary technical.
39:54Last game, there were five technicals and a flagrant foul.
39:58Well, we have a technical here for the post-whistle activity.
40:02Well, you rarely ever going to see a teammate shove another teammate that hard,
40:05as Cade Cunningham did to Ron Holland.
40:08And that's the leader of your team coming in and saying, hey, young fella, we don't need that right now.
40:13Technical foul or start a fight where there's an ejection.
40:17Watch Cade Cunningham come in here as Holland gets up.
40:20He's got some words for Towns.
40:23Cade Cunningham saying, get out of there.
40:24Tim Hardaway, another veteran player, getting the young fella out as well.
40:28And almost, you couldn't tell if Duren was taunting or if he was about to fall and he was trying to brace himself.
40:35Holland certainly was taunting, and that's what Cade Cunningham didn't like.
40:38Looked to me like Duren was trying to really dislodge Holland from Towns.
40:45The ruling on the floor is a transition take foul.
40:47The play's under review for a potential hostile act.
40:49So you got the transition take foul as well on Towns to keep Detroit from getting out on the fast break.
40:57It's a different type of transition take foul.
41:00We used to see those where they were intentional, and clearly they just got tangled up.
41:03But it's still a free throw in possession.
41:06Now the question is, do we have more because of post-whistle extracurriculars?
41:11I mentioned Holland struggling offensively, but does a nice job here.
41:14They're raking down on Towns, getting in to that driving lane to create the steal.
41:20And then Carl Anthony Towns pulling him to the ground to prevent the transition opportunity.
41:25You touched on how rare it is to see a teammate with that kind of a shove.
41:30But that leadership by Cade Cunningham is a big reason why the Pistons are where they are
41:34and why he was drafted number one overall back in 2021 for what he did at Oklahoma State.
41:40No doubt.
41:41And Cade Cunningham knows, look, they're struggling.
41:43This is not typical of the way Detroit has played this year, particularly offensively right now.
41:48So he's coming in there saying, we don't need anything else to not go our way this half.
41:54That's why you saw him rush to the pack and make sure that Holland got out of there before anything escalated.
42:00Here's Cade.
42:00Well, I asked Cade Cunningham where he's grown the most this season, and he said that exact fact as a leader.
42:05He said, I try to be natural about it.
42:07I don't force it.
42:08And by being himself and wanting what's best for the team, that naturally leads to guys respecting him.
42:12He said, I recognize every player is motivated differently.
42:15So he catered his comments, conversations, actions to the individual and what they need in certain moments.
42:21I guess he thought that a big shove was what Holland needed in that exact moment, guys.
42:25And in fairness to their Katie to Katie.
42:27One sportsmanlike acts after the whistle.
42:28The play will resume with a transition take foul called against Towns.
42:35Well, maybe this will get the Pistons going with the free throw here on the transition take foul.
42:38No technicals there.
42:40And really, there probably shouldn't have been.
42:41There wasn't a whole lot.
42:42And again, Cunningham got in there quickly.
42:44Hardaway was also there to be.
42:45Tim Hardaway was there as well to kind of peel Holland away from the traffic.
42:51One thing we're seeing right now, you know, you look at the Pistons this year, the exact same record on the road as they do at home.
42:5922-19 both places.
43:01And J.B. Bickerstaff said that was a result of younger players taking things for granted at home and not dialing into the details the way that they do on the road.
43:10And they do look unsettled right now here to start this game.
43:15And you see even there, can't capitalize on the free throw.
43:18And Bickerstaff even told us legs before the game that he felt that the crowd surprised them a little bit in game three.
43:24He knew it was going to be raucous, maybe not to that degree.
43:26And some of the younger guys were forcing things a little bit early.
43:29Wonder if that's the case again here today.
43:31Because as loud as we heard it was here the other night, equally loud, if not louder, for the beginning of game four.
43:37Detroit down 12, Cunningham looking for just his second basket.
43:42And that was a tough shot over the outstretched arm of O.G.
43:45And that, again, the leadership.
43:47You come out of that huddle and this feels like an eight-minute stretch here that Cade Cunningham has to put his fingerprints all over it.
43:54Great patience there.
43:55Got the one-on-one in the post and got the shot he wanted.
44:00Brunson's been on the bench and the Knicks are plus two since he went to the bench.
44:04Towns for three.
44:05No good.
44:07Hardaway bats it out of play.
44:10Crowd doesn't like it, but it looked like Hardaway touched it last.
44:13Knick ball 14 to shoot.
44:15If the crowd ever wants to know, just look at the reaction of your player.
44:18Tim Hardaway Jr. did not react at all.
44:21He knew he had hit the ball.
44:22Ananobi's three off the side of the back four, but it pinballs to Towns.
44:26Towns three, no good.
44:27The Knicks going cold, but they're getting multiple looks.
44:31Ananobi penetrating, grabbed by Cunningham.
44:34And it'll be free throws.
44:36That's Cunningham's first foul, third team foul on Detroit in the quarter.
44:40Offensive rebounding been a huge factor in this game for the Knicks.
44:47Pistons got a few early of their own, but it's been all Knicks on the offensive glass here over the last ten minutes or so.
44:53You give a team like the Knicks this many different guys that can hurt you offensively, that many opportunities are going to end up with points.
45:01NHL Stanley Cup playoffs continue tomorrow on ESPN, starting with the defending Stanley Cup champion, Florida Panthers, taking on the Lightning.
45:09Florida up two games to one in that series, game five between the Stars and Avs at 9.30.
45:16Series tied 2-2.
45:19Dave Pasch, Tim Legler, Katie George in Detroit for game four of this 3-6 series in the East.
45:26Detroit down two games to one.
45:28Winner would play either Boston or Orlando.
45:30The Celtics lead that series 2-1, game four tonight.
45:34Game four of the Lakers' Wolves up next on ABC.
45:37Minnesota leading 2-1 in that series.
45:39And a foul on Ananobi on the reach-in.
45:41His first, second team foul on New York.
45:47Neither team's made a three this quarter.
45:49Now Detroit hasn't made one for the game as Brunson's back.
45:52Knicks are 0-4-5 this quarter from deep.
45:54They went 5-4-10 for Tom Thibodeau's team in the first quarter.
46:02Towns the leading scorer with nine.
46:04Hart has eight.
46:04He made two first quarter threes.
46:06Brunson with seven.
46:07Cunningham has four points, no assists.
46:09On the switch, actually double, forced the pass.
46:14Hart away.
46:15Got the three.
46:16Finally, the Pistons with their first triple.
46:19Finally give one a go, and it's ironic because Hart away Jr.
46:23did not catch that ball cleanly.
46:25He actually bobbled it on the catch,
46:27but still had enough time to gather it and knock one down.
46:31And the first assist for Cunningham.
46:34Brunson boot every time he touches the ball,
46:37and he's touched it a lot, bringing the ball to the floor mostly.
46:40Towns driving all the way.
46:41Missed the easy one.
46:42Got it back.
46:43It sticks it home.
46:44Towns staying with it.
46:45He's got 11 points.
46:48Lead back to 11.
46:50Cunningham pops for three.
46:53And that hit Towns.
46:54It'll be a Detroit ball.
46:55Timeout on the floor with the Knicks up 11.
47:09Well, somebody needed to open the floodgates.
47:12Tim Hardaway Jr. finally gets one to go,
47:15despite bobbling the basketball Pistons right now,
47:18trying to hold on.
47:19Stuntin' like his daddy out there.
47:26Today's home court advantage brought to you by Holmes.com.
47:29What a turnaround for the Pistons.
47:31A 30-win increase from a year ago.
47:33The only team to triple their win total in an 82-game season in NBA history.
47:38Sixth largest win increase overall ever,
47:40and the largest win increase by a team with the NBA's worst record in a previous season.
47:47And I didn't know you had that in your game,
47:50what you said going to break about daddies,
47:52but Tim Hardaway Jr., the son of the legend Tim Hardaway Sr.,
47:57has been a big part of this turnaround for Detroit.
47:59I think that's what did it.
48:00That's a former teammate right there.
48:02I played with Tim Sr. in Golden State and thought it called for that type of analysis.
48:09I just didn't expect it from you, but it was spot on.
48:12There's a lot of things we haven't discussed,
48:14despite all this time we're spending on the road.
48:17Well, Detroit down 11 with 10 turnovers and just three assists.
48:24Tim Hardaway Sr. played in a lot of games against the Knicks in the postseason.
48:29He knows all about New York basketball
48:32and how good the Pistons and Knicks series have been over the years.
48:35They've played once in 84 at a game at Joe Louis Arena.
48:38They were playing that series at the Silverdome,
48:41but because the venue was unavailable,
48:44they played downtown,
48:45where, of course, all the games are now
48:46since Little Caesars Arena was built about seven years ago.
48:50Another missed three.
48:51Cunningham 0 for 3 from deep.
48:53Detroit 1 of 13.
48:55Knocked out of bounds by Cunningham.
48:56You know, a team like Detroit,
48:58whose identity is the defensive end of the floor,
49:01your defense will be able to keep you within arm's reach,
49:04but ultimately, your offense has to give you a chance,
49:07and right now, Detroit's offense just isn't doing that.
49:10This is a critical six minutes in the Piston season.
49:14Bully ball from Towns, but he couldn't finish,
49:16and he collided with Hart, who had the ball,
49:18knocked his own teammate to the ground,
49:19trying to be aggressive and get the offensive rebound.
49:22It'll be a jump ball between Hardaway and Hart.
49:33He's been really aggressive, legs.
49:35Game two wasn't as much,
49:37but really a nice bounce back game three for him
49:39when he scored 31, and we're seeing it again tonight.
49:41And I think hunting some of these three-point shots early
49:44has made the Pistons close out on him harder,
49:46and now he's using that big body to get some leverage
49:49and get an angle on the glass,
49:51but once again, it's the second chance opportunity here
49:54that's going to give the Knicks,
49:55if they can win this jump ball,
49:57one more attempt to get some points on the board on this trip.
50:01And points have been hard to come by.
50:02This feels like an 80s or 90s Pistons-Knicks series.
50:06Low scoring, both teams under 40%.
50:08Physical.
50:11Officials are letting in play.
50:12We've seen a lot of contact at the rim,
50:14although, of course, as I say that,
50:15there's fairly any contact.
50:17And a loose ball foul on Towns,
50:19and that's two on him.
50:22Actually, they get Ananobi.
50:23Excuse me.
50:24Second on Ananobi.
50:25Yeah, that's a tough break for Ananobi.
50:27He's just trying to react to that jump ball.
50:30Nice job.
50:30Kate Cunningham treated that
50:32like you would box out on a rebound.
50:34He got Ananobi on his back
50:36to make sure he couldn't get the ball.
50:37Ananobi comes over the top.
50:39And Tibbs understandably upset
50:40with the way they've let this go.
50:41To call that was surprising.
50:43Here's Cunningham, leaving it for Hardaway.
50:46Blows by Brunson,
50:47and missed the pull-up badly.
50:49And Towns clears it.
50:50Quick outlet, Bridges.
50:52No look past the Harden transition.
50:54Out to Brunson.
50:56Leaves it for Towns.
50:57Swing it.
50:57Bridges, 4-3.
51:00Offensive rebound, OG.
51:01Bridges again.
51:03Way off the mark.
51:05And now a five-on-four with Towns
51:07racing back up court.
51:10Bounce from Cunningham,
51:11and a block from behind by Bridges.
51:13What a play.
51:15Mikkel Bridges had two blocks in game three.
51:19Hart goes right at the chest of Hardaway.
51:21And a piston foul.
51:27Okay, Cunningham tried to get
51:29an opportunity for himself,
51:31but you saw Bridges step up
51:33to stop ball penetration,
51:34and then that reaction time to turn
51:37and meet Thompson at the rim
51:39to prevent that layoff.
51:42Fans don't like the call.
51:45First, on Hardaway on the other end,
51:48they thought Bridges should have been called
51:50for a foul.
51:51Josh Hart at the line.
51:56And Josh Hart missing the free throw.
51:58Shot close to 80% during the regular season.
52:03He does a little of everything
52:04for this Knick team.
52:06It was one of the great pickups
52:07that they made.
52:09Back-to-back 50-win seasons
52:11for the first time
52:12in over 30 years,
52:14and Josh Hart a big part
52:15of their culture.
52:21It spins out,
52:22so he misses them both.
52:24But they still have an 11-point lead
52:25because Detroit can't score.
52:27Meanwhile, Brunson knocked down,
52:28and an offensive foul called
52:30on Asar Thompson.
52:35That's his first.
52:37Boy, it seems like they have been
52:38calling it tighter
52:39since that little scuffle.
52:42You'll see right here,
52:43Jalen Brunson knows exactly
52:45what he's doing.
52:46He just puts his body
52:47in front of Thompson.
52:48There's not a lot of contact there
52:50at all.
52:51I don't even think Thompson
52:52extended his arms.
52:54That was more about Jalen Brunson
52:55really doing a great job
52:57of selling that
52:58in a game
52:59that's got this much emotion.
53:01He's going to get that call
53:02sometimes.
53:04The boos are even louder now
53:06from the Pistons crowd
53:08towards Jalen Brunson.
53:09Trying to shake Thompson.
53:11Stares at him.
53:12Now fires a three.
53:13And switches it through.
53:15Jalen Brunson,
53:16cold-blooded,
53:18right over the defender
53:19to push the lead to 14.
53:20Yeah, Thompson's a young player.
53:22He's been in foul trouble
53:23the entire series.
53:24I felt like
53:25he was a little cautious
53:26with his contest
53:27on that Brunson jump shot.
53:29Did not want to commit
53:30another foul.
53:32Thompson in the high post
53:33going at Brunson
53:34and a foul.
53:35He'll shoot two.
53:40Yeah, I mean,
53:41this is the guy
53:42they want on him
53:42most of the time.
53:44He's in good position,
53:45but that's sort of
53:46a cautious closeout.
53:47He really didn't extend
53:49primarily because
53:50he has been in foul trouble
53:52throughout this series.
53:52And also,
53:53the last thing you want
53:54to do right there
53:55is give Jalen Brunson
53:56three free throws.
53:57Second foul on Brunson.
53:58Let's check in with Katie.
54:00Yeah, Davis,
54:00R. Thompson said
54:01Jalen Brunson is great
54:02at drawing fouls.
54:03He's great at selling fouls, too.
54:04So Thompson says
54:05he needs to be smarter
54:06not fouling today.
54:07He said Brunson has tendencies
54:09when he's about to draw the foul
54:10and you have to be able
54:11to read it.
54:12When you're behind him,
54:12he stops.
54:13When you're parallel with him,
54:14he puts his body on you
54:15so you naturally do the same
54:16and then he shoots into you.
54:18Thompson said he's glad,
54:19though,
54:19to be going through this
54:20as a young player.
54:21He said it's a great way
54:22to learn.
54:23And so far,
54:24he's done a nice job
54:25not fouling a ton.
54:26And as we were talking
54:27about that last foul
54:28was certainly questionable.
54:29That's good stuff, Katie.
54:30The other thing, too,
54:31it's interesting,
54:31I thought that he told us
54:32about that is
54:33how Brunson uses his arms.
54:35We talk a lot about
54:36Brunson's footwork,
54:37but his arms to draw fouls.
54:39So good at it.
54:40He understands how
54:41to close down that gap.
54:43Meanwhile,
54:44the Pistons didn't understand
54:45that Bridges was wide open
54:46in the corner.
54:46They were late to rotate.
54:47They're lucky he didn't
54:48knock that down.
54:49It's Detroit ball.
54:5112-point Knicks lead,
54:524-and-a-half to go in the half.
54:53Sometimes when teams
54:54are struggling like this
54:55offensively,
54:56it just takes
54:57a couple of baskets
54:58back-to-back,
54:59and it feels like
55:00everybody will
55:01gain some confidence
55:02and settle in.
55:03Bridges knocked it away
55:04from Harris,
55:05got it back,
55:06and that looked like
55:07going to goaltend.
55:12And one of the officials,
55:13Brian Forte,
55:14sat count the baskets,
55:15so they do.
55:15It took a while, though.
55:17He's on the way down.
55:18Yes.
55:19Clearly on the way down,
55:20and the call was a little
55:22bit delayed.
55:22I think that's why
55:23we had that reaction.
55:25Harris just 2-for-9,
55:27though, from the floor
55:27as Towns goes up and under.
55:30What a move from Kat.
55:31He split the defenders,
55:34hung and put it home.
55:36Lead back to 12.
55:37Harris a little out of control.
55:38Turnover number 12.
55:40Numbers for the Knicks.
55:41Bridges, attack,
55:42swatted away.
55:43Cunningham.
55:44Brunson, though,
55:44tracks down the loose ball.
55:48And Anobi with the jab,
55:49step and fire.
55:50Missed the three.
55:51And Thompson blocking out Hart.
55:54Gets a little shove from Hart
55:55as Cunningham brings it up the court.
55:57Thompson went to a face guard blockout
56:00on that last attempt
56:02and allowed his teammates
56:03to come in and gather
56:04the long rebound.
56:05Cunningham just 2-for-6,
56:07drives,
56:08and now 2-for-7.
56:10Knicks again look to run.
56:12Hart down court,
56:13and foul called on Harris
56:15as Hart takes a hard fall.
56:20Two more free throws
56:22for the Knicks.
56:26Again, inability to score
56:29leads to numbers
56:30going the other way.
56:32Tobias Harris
56:33clearly comes across
56:35Josh Hart's body,
56:36takes him out of the air.
56:39Even Jared Goff
56:40getting emotional
56:42about things here today.
56:43Every Piston fan
56:44in the building.
56:45Oh, and his sport,
56:46that's acceptable.
56:47So Hart knocks down
56:54the first free throw
56:55with Harris getting
56:56his second foul.
56:58Malik Beasley back
56:59on the floor.
57:00Smaller lineup right now
57:01for Detroit with Durin
57:02going to the bench.
57:03Look at the numbers
57:05for Josh Hart.
57:06Again,
57:07filling up the box score.
57:08Second free throw's good,
57:20and that matches
57:21the largest lead
57:21for the Knicks
57:22at 14
57:23here in the second quarter.
57:24They lead the series
57:25two games to one.
57:26Game five
57:27back at Madison Square Garden
57:28on Tuesday.
57:31Game six,
57:31if there is,
57:32he'll be back here
57:32on Thursday.
57:33Annanoby's done
57:35a great job
57:36on Cunningham.
57:39Here's Beasley
57:39rising up,
57:40an air ball.
57:41Good contest
57:41by Bridges.
57:42The struggles
57:43for Beasley
57:44continue.
57:45Pull up feet
57:45is a miss
57:46from Bridges
57:47for three.
57:47Beasley rebounds.
57:50Nothing easy
57:50for the Pistons
57:51down here.
57:52Great contest
57:52by Bridges
57:53on that three.
57:55Detroit needs
57:56more of that.
57:57Attacking the basket.
57:58Cunningham scores.
57:59That's his
58:00sixth point.
58:01Yeah, using that
58:02size and frame,
58:03and I like
58:03that opportunity
58:04for him
58:04because the Knicks
58:05were not set up
58:06defensively.
58:07He found the first
58:07gap that he saw
58:08and took it all
58:09the way to the rim.
58:10Fall on Beasley
58:11away from the bucket
58:12and that will send
58:14Brunson to the line.
58:15Detroit over the limit.
58:18Well, nothing's gone
58:19much right
58:20for the Pistons
58:20offensively today.
58:21Kate Cunningham
58:22trying to finish
58:23off the half
58:24with a flirt.
58:25Give it to me
58:26what you say.
58:27Give it to me
58:28what you say.
58:29Give it to me
58:30what you say.
58:31Give it to me
58:32what you say.
58:33Give it to me
58:34what you say.
58:36The Knicks
58:36playoff block party
58:38back in New York.
58:39They have to be loving
58:40the tenacity
58:41on defense
58:42right now
58:43by the New York Knicks
58:44as we look at
58:44today's driven performance
58:45brought to you
58:46by Duncan.
58:47Well, they're making
58:47Detroit's life
58:49miserable on this
58:50and everything
58:51contested.
58:52Some of it
58:53carelessness
58:53on the part
58:54of the Pistons,
58:55but to this point,
58:56the Knicks
58:56holding them
58:57through to 33%
58:58shooting,
59:0012 turnovers,
59:01and most importantly,
59:02only one made three.
59:05One of 14
59:06from deep.
59:07The Knicks
59:08started hot.
