00:00Football League.
00:06Welcome to NFL kickoff presented by YouTube TV.
00:10The Saints and the Cardinals.
00:12The Cardinals will receive.
00:14The Saints won the toss and they deferred.
00:17So they will kick off to start the regular season.
00:20A lot of Cardinals fans have made their way to New Orleans.
00:23Dorch, one of the return men with Di Mercado.
00:26And it's going to be Dorch from the goal line.
00:32As the Cardinals and the Saints begin 20-25.
00:35He slides forward up to the 22-yard line.
00:40Stalbert makes the tackle.
00:41Let's go to Tiffany.
00:42Hey, Tom.
00:43One of the first things we noticed at Saints practice was that the energy was flowing not only there but throughout the entire building.
00:49That's what Kellen Moore has brought to this team.
00:51And he's done it by finding ways to connect with his players through communication.
00:54And being efficient, he said, in everything they do.
00:57It keeps the energy up.
00:59So much so that 14-year veteran linebacker DeMario Davis told us there hasn't been a single day where he hasn't been excited to come to war.
01:05Got to tell you, the smile on his face the other day when we met with him was pretty amazing.
01:10On first down for the 22-yard line of the Cardinals.
01:13Ryman in motion.
01:14Here's Connor.
01:14Gets his first run of the day.
01:16And he squirts his way across the 25.
01:19Godshaw makes the tackle.
01:20All right.
01:20So, Kyler Murray.
01:21And what the expectations are, Ross?
01:23Well, he told us yesterday his confidence is absolutely through the roof.
01:27It's great that he was able to play in every game last year.
01:30He thinks this is the best offensive line he's ever had.
01:33So excited about the additions on defense.
01:35He just wants to win.
01:36I mean, it was very clear he wants to make the playoffs this year in the worst way.
01:40Jonathan Gatton, 12 wins so far as the head coach of the Cardinals.
01:43It'll be second down and seven.
01:45McBride and Ryman both in the game.
01:49In motion is McBride.
01:50And Murray to throw for the first time.
01:53Look at for McBride, which he does so often.
01:55He has a first down.
01:57Trey McBride is Kyler Murray's go-to guy.
02:00One of the most targeted wide receivers.
02:03Tight ends, that is.
02:03Top two in the NFL the last two years.
02:06You see the motion there.
02:07The easy matchup.
02:08They got to play him closer today.
02:09This guy's going to probably lead the team in targets.
02:11And how about that?
02:14Right off the bat, they have Harrison do the in-breaking route to run a pick for him, Logan.
02:19You know, a lot of times other teams, it's the other way around.
02:21For the Cardinals, sometimes the elite receiver is trying to get the tight end open.
02:26First down for the 36-yard line.
02:29In motion is Zay Jones.
02:31Off the play fake.
02:32He's in trouble.
02:33Oh, and Kyler Murray goes down.
02:37Cameron Jordan, four sacks last year, picks up his first this season.
02:44Cam Jordan was not fooled by that bootleg at all.
02:48He's a 15-year vet.
02:49He goes right up the field.
02:50He doesn't care about the action away.
02:52I don't even know what that blocking scheme is.
02:55If Trey McBride was supposed to block him for a second, McBride runs into Ryman.
03:00That is a disaster of a play for the Cardinals.
03:03It's a loss of 11.
03:06122 and a half sacks so far in his career.
03:10Connor out of the backfield, now in motion.
03:14On second down at 21, they give it to him.
03:16Trying to get to the edge, and he is stuck behind a lot of scrimmage.
03:20Kool-Aid McKinstry.
03:24Kool-Aid McKinstry stepping up in a big year, too.
03:27He wants to be the cornerback one on this team.
03:30He wants to follow Marvin Harrison Jr. today.
03:32He told us he wants that pressure that comes with it, and that's why they drafted this guy out of Alabama a year ago.
03:39Well, speaking of pressure, third and 23 might be a screen, might be a draw, but the Saints don't have their best pass rusher.
03:47That's Chase Young, injured, a calf injury on Wednesday.
03:50They're going to have to manufacture pressure a different way.
03:53Take a look at Brandon Salee's defense.
03:56All these people at the line of scrimmage here.
03:58And they're going to go conservative.
03:59They're going to hand the ball off.
04:01Not much is there.
04:01Trey Benson has stopped.
04:03Shepard came up to make the tackle, and the Cardinals will be forced to punt.
04:07Guys, you cannot draw up a better start to the Kellen Moore tenure than that defensive series right there.
04:15Absolutely perfect, and they should get the ball in outstanding field position.
04:19And Ross, that's why he brought in Brandon Staley.
04:22Brandon Staley led the Rams defense in 2020 to number one in the league.
04:25He's a defensive mastermind, and he's helping Kellen Moore in his transition here.
04:30First putt of the day.
04:31The Saints should get good field position.
04:36Oh, this is a heck of a putt.
04:38He's going to backpedal inside the 20-yard line.
04:42And he's going to be wrapped up at the 23.
04:45All right, a good defensive stand for the Saints.
04:48Can they have the same offensively behind Spencer Rattler when we return?
04:55At Burger King, celebrities don't rule the menu.
04:59You rule.
05:01Modelo, the mark of a fighter.
05:05And by Liberty Mutual Insurance.
05:09Only pay for what you need.
05:17Let's see if that defensive stand by the Saints can lift up Spencer Rattler.
05:21Logan, obviously they have expectations for him to be consistent this year.
05:24And that's what he's been on camp, Tom.
05:26He was 0-6 last year in his starts, but he didn't really have a fair chance.
05:30Now he's got an offensive play caller in Kellen Moore.
05:33He's got a really explosive lineup around him.
05:36This guy has a chip on his shoulder.
05:37He's mobile, and he has a live arm.
05:39The Cardinals coaches told us that, and the Saints coaches told us that.
05:43Tyler Shuck is their backup quarterback.
05:45They don't have a third-string quarterback right now.
05:49Kamara will take the handoff, and he bursts right up the middle.
05:51You like that hit, Ross?
05:53I mean, I liked it a lot more than Kamara did.
05:55He just got absolutely rocked on that first play.
05:59Welcome to another NFL season.
06:02Who hit him, was it?
06:03No, not Browning.
06:04Oh, Calais.
06:05Calais Campbell.
06:08Unbelievable.
06:08Browning came off the edge, but old man Calais just rocked him.
06:14Year 18, he still packs those pads, though.
06:17Second down at 18, Cook's the veteran in motion.
06:20He also returned to the Saints this year.
06:22Rattler to the middle of the field, deflected, nearly intercepted by Buda Baker.
06:26Speaking of Buda Baker, Logan, players you're looking for today?
06:29Buda Baker's one of them, I'll tell you that.
06:32But on the Saints, you obviously saw Kamara get an early touch.
06:35He is their number one option.
06:36Let's not forget about Chris Alave, people.
06:39When healthy, he had a concussion history, but he's one of the top receivers in the league.
06:42And Buda Baker, 164 tackles, most by a DB since 1996.
06:47Number three will be all over your field today.
06:50Olave, who, when he's in there, he's targeted almost eight times per game.
06:55The tight end sets up in the backfield.
06:56That's stole.
06:57Rattler, a third down.
06:59Rattler steps up.
06:59He's hit.
07:00He rolls.
07:01He throws, and he just throws it away.
07:03Incomplete.
07:03Going to be fourth down.
07:05And what I'm getting out of that is early season football for both these quarterbacks.
07:09They played in the preseason, but not a lot.
07:11Both did not seem comfortable in that first drive.
07:14They threw the ball away there.
07:16Kellen Moore's got to dial up something better coming back.
07:18That's actually a winning play, though, right there by Rattler to not take that sack.
07:22There was pressure coming off the edge.
07:24Give the youngster credit for stepping up in the pocket, throwing the football away.
07:28Nobody was open.
07:29Kai Kroger is on to putt the ball away.
07:31Greg Dortch, who is explosive, is back deep to receive for the Cardinals, standing at his 33-yard line.
07:37Left-footed putter.
07:42And Dortch doing a little assessing from the near sideline.
07:46And he's going to try to return this one.
07:47He does have a block.
07:49And he's going to get up close to the 35 before he's pushed back.
07:52Well, the Saints defense did a number in the last series against the Cardinals.
07:58Can they do the same as Kyler gets the ball for the second time?
08:02And I'm Tom McCarthy.
08:11Second series for the Cardinals.
08:14Murray completed one pass in the last series, but the Saints defense was in the backfield a couple of different times.
08:21Including Cam Jordan, who picked up another sack in his 15th year.
08:28But a first down for the Cardinals from the 34-yard line.
08:31Brandon Staley, the former head coach of the Chargers.
08:35Now the defensive coordinator for Kellen Moore.
08:37Moore was the offensive coordinator under Staley.
08:41A first down.
08:42McBride in motion.
08:45And Murray off the play fake.
08:46Pressure's coming.
08:47Dumps it off to McBride.
08:48Tight end screen.
08:49And he gets spun up to the 39-yard line.
08:53Alright, so, Logan, give me an idea of what we're looking for for the Cardinals.
08:56The Cardinals have a big three on offense.
08:58James Connors, the tone setter.
09:00Playing against him, he finishes his runs really violent.
09:03Trey McBride, you see his target usage.
09:04He's really the number one guy in that offense.
09:07And they're expecting Marvin Harrison Jr. to step up in the second year of his campaign.
09:11Yeah, Harrison's going to line up in different spots, they say.
09:14He did that in the preseason a couple times.
09:16Murray has time.
09:17This is where he could be elusive.
09:19He directs traffic.
09:20He wanted to do this early.
09:22But he's out of bounds inside Saints territory.
09:25Well, two things there, Tom.
09:27Number one, the Saints pass rush.
09:29You're going to have to do a heck of a lot better than that.
09:31Really on two levels.
09:32Number one, he had as much time as he wanted.
09:34But then you can't let him break, contain, and get the edge.
09:37If Kyler Murray gets outside the corner, it's a first down every time.
09:42He's that fast.
09:42And the 48-yard line of New Orleans.
09:52First down with Conor in the pistol formation.
09:55They give it to him.
09:56Conor starts left to the veteran, breaks right.
09:59And he's wrapped up and taken down by Julian Blackman, who pursued.
10:03Marvin Harrison Jr. put on 11 pounds of muscle.
10:08That's been talked about a lot.
10:09Why did he do that?
10:11I think he wants to approach the ability to be more physical this year.
10:14I think the muscle means a mentality.
10:17He wants to demand the ball.
10:18He's going to go against top coverage all year long.
10:21He's a muscle.
10:22He wants to have durability to withstand the season.
10:24Well, he's by himself at the top of your screen.
10:27Off the play fake.
10:28Murray will roll to his left.
10:29Pressure's coming.
10:30He eludes it again.
10:32And he'll get out of bounds near the original line of scrimmage.
10:36Carl Granderson chased him out of bounds.
10:39I'm curious, Logan.
10:40As a former DB, what do you think about a guy gaining 11 pounds like that?
10:45Maybe it works for him.
10:47In my experience, I usually feel better about the guys that lose weight, not gain it.
10:52The weight's a big difference.
10:5311 pounds is a lot to carry.
10:55But I think he's looking to block more.
10:57I think he's going to be more physical at the catch point.
10:59And they're going to need him here on this third down.
11:01One-on-one at the top of your screen with Cooley McKinstry.
11:06This is the matchup that we've been looking for, ladies and gentlemen.
11:12Play clock was down to one.
11:14Murray sets up in the pocket.
11:16He's been sacked twice already.
11:17Middle of the field.
11:18It's broken up.
11:19Cooley McKinstry.
11:20And a flag comes in late.
11:25Cooley Johnny on the spot there.
11:27But he might have been a step too early.
11:29We're going to have to have another view of this.
11:30Pass interference on the defense number four.
11:33That's a spot found.
11:34An automatic push down.
11:35We highlighted Cooley at the top of the screen here.
11:43Marvin Harrison with an inside release trying to push off.
11:45Cooley's grabbing that white jersey, though.
11:48He's tugging that jersey.
11:49When they see that pull, that extension, especially in the middle of the field where the umpire is, that's an easy call.
11:55And the thing is, he had such good coverage, Logan.
11:58He didn't need to do that.
11:59Why do some young guys panic like that?
12:01I learned at DB, you're playing with two things.
12:04Either patience or panic.
12:05Cooley needs to play with a little more patience for the rest of this game.
12:09Well, they spot it up to the 34-yard line.
12:11It's a first down.
12:12Two tight ends in the backfield.
12:15And here comes the blitz.
12:16And somebody moves.
12:17It's going to be a false start against the Cardinals.
12:21False start.
12:22Offense number C4, and that's a five-yard penalty.
12:25First down.
12:26Well, and that's Isaiah Adams.
12:28He's the new right guard this year.
12:30Second-year man out of Illinois instead of Will Hernandez.
12:34They really like him.
12:35But the Saints had their rookie linebacker, Danny Stutzman, up in the A-gap.
12:40That's between the center and the guard.
12:42And I think it spooked Adams a little bit, which is why he jumped.
12:45So they move the ball back to the 39-yard line of New Orleans.
12:49Same formation on first down.
12:51First at 15.
12:54Off the play fake.
12:55Murray in the pocket.
12:56He's going to try to run again.
12:58Little pump fake, and he's going to slide down right at the line of scrimmage.
13:01It'll be interesting to see where they spot that.
13:03Let's check in with Tiffany.
13:05Hey, guys.
13:05I wanted to go back to that conversation on Marvin Harrison Jr. and the weight gain.
13:09Logan, you were spot on.
13:10I talked to him before the game.
13:11He said with that muscle he put on, he is much more confident.
13:14And it does allow him to be more physical at the point of attack.
13:18I did ask him, hey, how'd you do it?
13:19How'd you put on the weight?
13:21He said, I ate a lot.
13:22I know Ross knows a lot about that.
13:24Same way you did it, Ross.
13:25That was never a problem for me.
13:27I will say this.
13:28Looking at him on the field before the game, it is noticeable.
13:30I mean, that is 10 pounds of straight, hard rock muscle.
13:35Second down at 15.
13:37They go to Conner.
13:38Quick burst, and Conner is inside the Saints secondary,
13:41and he's down inside the 30 to the 28-yard line.
13:46That is such an efficient play right there on second down to get it third and manageable.
13:51They're just trying to hand the ball off and get the third down.
13:53But James Conner, I talked about how he finished his runs violently.
13:57It's going to take a whole pack to tackle him today.
13:59And what's crazy is that's not even where the ball was supposed to go.
14:02Both guards pulled to the left.
14:05Conner cut it back to the right, setting up a third and medium here.
14:09What are you thinking, Ross?
14:10Run still alive.
14:11Pass game.
14:12I'm thinking Trey McBride.
14:14The guy had 34 catches for first downs last year in the second half of games.
14:18That's the guy they go to when they need somebody.
14:21And Murray out of the gun.
14:23Underneath.
14:23Pass is complete.
14:25He goes to Michael Wilson for first down.
14:27He did go underneath.
14:28Well, Ross, you kind of thought the same thing.
14:30Trey McBride was the decoy there.
14:33Right?
14:33He cleared out the coverage.
14:35He dictated coverage.
14:36People are too soft.
14:37Michael Wilson right on the sticks to be able to get that first down for him.
14:41Second best third and short offense in the National Football League last year.
14:45They converted 74% of the time.
14:48And they convert there.
14:50That'll be first down for the 22-yard line of New Orleans.
14:53And this is what the Cardinals love.
14:54They love to put all these tight ends in the game.
14:5713 personnel more than any other team.
14:59That's having three tight ends at once.
15:02They go to Connor who spins away from DeMario Davis down of the 18-yard line.
15:06Davis who had 136 tackles last year.
15:10Ten years of 100 tackles or more.
15:12Look at that at the bottom, guys.
15:13Nobody plays 13 personnel, which as you said, Logan, is three tight ends more than the Arizona Cardinals.
15:19They still have three tight ends out there.
15:21So why do they do that?
15:23Number one, they like their tight ends.
15:24But number two, when you have three tight ends out there, you're creating extra gaps in the running game.
15:30You force safeties and DBs to have to take on blocks that they're just not used to.
15:36And Marvin Harrison Jr. has one-on-one man coverage at the top of the screen.
15:42Second down inside the red zone.
15:44He quickly goes to the outside.
15:45His pass was intended for Elijah Higgins, the tight end.
15:48It'll be third down.
15:50I want to talk about this Brandon Staley defense.
15:52It is bend, don't break.
15:53It is a two-high, two-safeties-high match zone.
15:57They're going to get you to third downs.
15:59This game is going to come down.
16:00Can the Cardinals convert third downs?
16:02Could Brandon Staley's going to give you them?
16:04Or are they going to force you off the field for a field goal there?
16:07And that would be a change for the Saints because they were at the bottom of the league last year in third down defensive conversions.
16:12I'm kind of expecting more pressure here because Kyler has not shown the ability to get the ball out quickly and accurately against pressure.
16:20I bet you Staley heats him up again.
16:23In motion is Wilson.
16:25Bunch formation to the top.
16:27On third down.
16:29Murray.
16:29And he just drops it.
16:30Flag comes in.
16:32And a delay a game.
16:34Prior to the ball being snapped.
16:36Delay a game on the offense.
16:38The five-year penalty.
16:39Down.
16:40Logan, how much of a difference does that make for you now as a DB when you go from third and seven to now third and 12th?
16:49It's a major difference.
16:50And Jonathan Gannon's wearing a hat.
16:52But he doesn't have a lot of hair.
16:53But he'll be pulling it all out right now.
16:55Meeting with him.
16:56He talked about non-negotiables.
16:57That's right.
16:58Pre-snap penalties.
16:59It's hard enough to convert on this Brandon Staley defense on third down.
17:02Now he just made it that much harder.
17:04Yeah, they've had two so far.
17:06It's third down.
17:08Harrison, bottom of your screen.
17:11Murray.
17:12Pressure's coming.
17:14Murray.
17:14Directing traffic.
17:15Throws on the run.
17:16And it's incomplete intended for Wilson.
17:19And that was nearly intercepted.
17:25Brandon Staley doing a job of showing everyone at the line of scrimmage.
17:30Popping people out.
17:30Making it confusing.
17:31And then watch Brian Brzee, right?
17:33The former first-round pick.
17:34This is the move right here.
17:36He goes right around Isaiah Adams.
17:38Little bull pull there.
17:39That's what forced Kyler Murray to escape.
17:42Brzee had seven and a half sacks last year.
17:44That's why you take him in the first round to get the pressure in big third down,
17:49high leverage situations like that.
17:50And here's Ryland.
17:5142-yard field goal attack.
17:52Good snap.
17:53Good hole.
17:53Kick is right through the middle.
17:55And the Cardinals strike first as they lead it 3-0 with 5-0-3 to play here in the first quarter.
18:01The Saints will try to answer when we get back.
18:06Welcome to Visible.
18:08The ultimate wireless hack.
18:11Verizon.
18:11The NFL is powered by Verizon 5G.
18:20Jackson Square, where Ross was this past Friday when he couldn't find a pool to swim,
18:24and he decided to swim in his own sweat as he ran through the streets of New Orleans.
18:29Hello with Ross Tucker and Logan Ryan, Tiffany Blackman, I'm Tom McCarthy.
18:333-0 Cardinals, 11 plays, 42 yards.
18:37Cardinals have been sacked three times already this afternoon.
18:40They were only sacked 30 times last year, fifth least in the National Football League.
18:44Well, a couple of those, I think, were Kyler Murray just sliding short of the line to gain,
18:48which is a huge, huge pet peeve for an offensive lineman when they slide down the line of scrimmage.
18:53The Saints will return this one.
18:56Up to the 25-yard line.
18:58It's time to get an update in New York with Adam Schein.
19:02Tom McCarthy.
19:03How about this?
19:04First touchdown pass for Aaron Rodgers.
19:07As a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, it's Ben Skoranek, 7-3 Pittsburgh.
19:12Tom, back to you.
19:14They said it was like old home week today when Aaron was in New York,
19:17seeing some of his former teammates.
19:19Steelers, 15-11 record on the road since the start of 2022.
19:24So now Rattler down 3-0, 4.56 to play in the first quarter.
19:28Camara's in motion.
19:30And they dump it off underneath.
19:32And they go to Jawan Johnson.
19:35Mack Wilson makes the tackle.
19:37All right, so that was an efficient toss by Rattler.
19:39And I think a young quarterback, and all quarterbacks need rhythm, Tom.
19:42And that's what Kellen Moore did.
19:44Gave Spencer Rattler a rhythm throw to get his arm and his feet kind of dialed up.
19:48Do you like this?
19:49No huddle getting him going fast.
19:52He'll keep it himself.
19:54And he goes up close to the 40-yard line.
19:55I do.
19:56No huddle is tough to defend, especially early in the season
19:59when you haven't played a preseason game.
20:01A lot of these starters have, none of these starters have played a full game.
20:05So conditioning will be a factor today.
20:07And not only that, it limits how exotic the defense can be.
20:11Date of a couple.
20:12Rattler looking to the near sideline.
20:14Pass is complete.
20:16Chris Olave in front of Max Melton.
20:21Gate of 13 yards.
20:22This is a pretty sight if you're a Saints fan.
20:25Chris Olave's back on the field.
20:26He is silky smooth in his routes, working on Max Melton there.
20:29And that's the live arm we talk about.
20:32That is a field out route.
20:33That is a hard throw to make.
20:35And Spencer Rattler makes it with ease.
20:36Melton felt like Olave pushed off.
20:39What do you think?
20:39As a DB, you want my honest opinion?
20:41I feel like that all the time.
20:42You're not looking at the flag, though.
20:44Ready to be set.
20:45Olave in motion.
20:46Flags come in on first down.
20:48Kamara.
20:49He's down on the 47-yard line.
20:54That's going to go against the Saints.
20:58Legal shift on the offense, number 12, never set.
21:02It's a five-yard lead.
21:03First down.
21:04Scott Novak is the referee.
21:06Scott Novak was actually the referee in the 2012 National Championship game for college football.
21:12And now an official in the National Football League.
21:14And you said it, Logan, when the Cardinals had a pre-snap penalty, that's the kind of stuff that absolutely drives coaches nuts.
21:23Think about how many practices they've had.
21:25OTAs, minicamp, training camp.
21:28And then to have an illegal motion penalty like that just drives them crazy.
21:32And it should.
21:34So should he go in motion.
21:36They hand the ball off to Miller.
21:37Miller running to his left.
21:38Cuts back to his right.
21:39But he's down inside the 45 to the 44.
21:42Mack Wilson makes the tackle.
21:44But that's the burst of speed.
21:46A gain of 10.
21:48Watch the right side of the offensive line here.
21:50They're both going to pull.
21:51Cesar Ruiz gets a block.
21:53Fuaga gets a block.
21:54Up on the safety.
21:56And Kendra Miller, who spent the entire Dennis Allen tenure in the doghouse, is getting a clean slate.
22:03And you talk with people around the Saints.
22:05They said he did something noticeable at every practice.
22:09He's finally getting his opportunity here in New Orleans.
22:12Valet in for the first time.
22:13They just got him from the Broncos organization.
22:16Kamara takes the run.
22:17Tries to get to the edge.
22:19There's a flag that comes in as he gets down to the 41-yard line.
22:24It's a gain of three.
22:25Jalen Thompson makes the tackle.
22:27Holding offense number 51.
22:32That's a 10-yard penalty.
22:33Second down.
22:34Cesar Ruiz, who has called for the penalty.
22:38We've seen a lot of penalties.
22:39And this is week one football, fellas.
22:41Like we talk about, these players haven't played a lot in the preseason.
22:44And the penalties are killers.
22:46They get you off track.
22:47They get you behind the sticks.
22:49And it makes it hard for a young quarterback to operate behind the sticks.
22:52Yeah, because you've got positive yards on that run there.
22:55Well, and now, when you have second and 15, you'd expect the Cardinals to play probably a softer zone coverage here.
23:02Two plays.
23:03Let him complete the pass short of the sticks.
23:06Steven Collins, bottom of your screen.
23:07Trying to blitz his way in.
23:08Rattler steps up in the pocket.
23:10Rattler going long.
23:11And he is intercepted right at the goal line.
23:15Will Johnson.
23:19He was going for Shahid.
23:23And there's a flag on the far side of the field, so hold on.
23:29All the quarterback is in the pocket.
23:32Legal contact on the defense in the 16.
23:35That's a five-yard penalty in the automatic.
23:37Wow.
23:38Max Melton called for the penalty, and it erases the interception.
23:43Max Melton on the opposite side of the screen.
23:46He's been struggling to cover Alave so far, and he hooks it right there.
23:50I don't see a lot, though.
23:51I don't see enough for them to call that, especially with the ball being thrown on the opposite side of the field.
23:56I don't know how that affects the play that much, to take that away.
24:00That is a monumental mistake and a penalty there against the Cardinals.
24:05Yes, each team now with three penalties.
24:08And the Cardinals are starting two young corners today.
24:12Max Melton being one of them.
24:13And how about Will Johnson?
24:15The draft day slide because of his knee.
24:17Anything I see, this kid can play.
24:19Defensive Rookie of the Year, potential talent.
24:21Will Johnson slipped to the second round because of that knee injury.
24:25Kamara takes the pitch.
24:26And he stays on his feet as he spins down toward the 40-yard line, close to the 39.
24:32Watch the lead block by Stoll.
24:3988 on Melton.
24:41That was the key block.
24:43Stoll, a backup tight end, just got elevated off the practice squad.
24:46He was the one that had the kick-out block on Melton, who's the fourth player.
24:50You can see Foster Moreau, the injured tight end, giving him props.
24:54They know that's what sprung Kamara.
24:56Second and one here, Ross.
24:57This is a perfect down to take a shot, right?
24:59Because you can always run it on third down.
25:01But they have a lot of speed at receiver down here.
25:04They hand it off to Kamara.
25:06And Kamara gets the first down.
25:07He's down to the 38-yard line.
25:10Or they'll just get the first down.
25:12Don't let me overthink myself up here, Ross.
25:16No, Logan, I'm with you.
25:17To me, that's almost a wasted play right there.
25:20I mean, you have second and one, especially that part of the field.
25:24I would think Kellen Moore would have gone for it on fourth down.
25:27So to me, second and one, you had a free play.
25:29I'm surprised that Kellen Moore didn't try to get more aggressive there,
25:33although maybe he's a little bit gun-shy after Rattler threw the pick on the deep ball to Shaheed.
25:38And the young quarterback just get the first downs for him early in the game.
25:40Oh, that was a late snap.
25:42Flag comes in.
25:43They'll just throw it up for grabs and out of bounds.
25:45Well, that was a botched play from the get-go.
25:48I think it was an early snap.
25:49I think he snapped it before Rattler was ready.
25:51Rattler was about to make an audible.
25:56We have an illegal shift and a false start.
25:58Let's see what they go with.
26:00There are two fouls against the offense.
26:02Illegal formation on the offense.
26:05Penalties declined.
26:06Illegal shift on the offense.
26:08That's a five-yard penalty.
26:10First down.
26:10And I think both those penalties are a product of Eric McCoy snapping the ball before Rattler was ready,
26:19before the guys were lined up.
26:21What's interesting about that is I spoke to Eric on Wednesday,
26:24and he really praised Rattler for the improved leadership and the command of the offense
26:31and knowing what was going on.
26:32Not sure why those guys weren't on the same page on that play.
26:35So now four penalties against the Saints.
26:39It'll be first down and 15.
26:41Under a minute to play in the first quarter.
26:43Off the play fake.
26:44Rattler will keep it himself.
26:45And Rattler keeps it on.
26:46And he takes a hit.
26:47He fumbled the ball.
26:48And it looks like the Cardinals have picked it up.
26:50But I think they're going to say he was down.
26:53The refs are singling down on the field.
26:55And Spencer Rattler needs to learn this league.
26:58When you run, you got to get down sooner.
27:00You shouldn't be taking his contact.
27:02Let's see if his knee, that butt gets down before the ball gets kicked out there.
27:06Yeah, that's the right call.
27:07There was Buda Baker who hit him initially.
27:10Second down.
27:12Rattler underneath.
27:13Passes complete to Cooks.
27:14And Cooks trying to make a man miss.
27:16And he gets down to the 25.
27:18He's got the first down.
27:20How about Brandon Cooks making a reunion here?
27:24His return to New Orleans.
27:26It's 3-0 Cardinals.
27:28Kyler Murray has the early lead.
27:30But the Saints are marching on.
27:33His footlongs are packed with protein like the Ultimate BMT
27:38or the All-Pro Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki with 58 grams of protein.
27:43And now Subway MVP Rewards members can buy any footlong in the app and get 40% off.
27:48Fuel up now in the Subway app.
27:50Wow.
27:51It's time.
27:52Shut up.
27:53For a new season of.
27:5460 Minutes.
27:5560 Minutes.
27:5660 Minutes.
27:56Sunday, September 28th on CBS.
27:59How about that?
28:00Justin Hartley returns.
28:05In Tracker.
28:07New season.
28:07Sunday, October 19th.
28:08Part of CBS Premiere Week.
28:12Welcome back to the Caesars Superdome in downtown New Orleans.
28:15They've hosted eight Super Bowls.
28:16Six Final Fours.
28:18And the last Super Bowl won by the Eagles was played here.
28:22We start the second quarter.
28:23It'll be first down from around the 25.
28:26And they are ready to go here in New Orleans.
28:27I mean, they are ready to go.
28:30And they are ready to go.
28:31And they are ready to go.
28:33Cooks comes in motion.
28:35First target of the day for Kamara.
28:38And Kamara outside the numbers inside the 20 to the 18-yard line.
28:42Jalen Thompson makes the tackle.
28:44You can always count on Sundays with the NFL on CBS and Paramount+.
28:49I don't know who likes Kamara more.
28:54Nick Rouse, the D coordinator for the Cardinals, or Kellen Moore, or Logan.
28:59Logan wouldn't stop talking about him all week.
29:01I like those outfits in the crowd there.
29:03A couple clown noses.
29:05That was pretty cool.
29:05Inside the red zone.
29:09Rattler was 8 of 12 last year inside the red zone.
29:12It makes life easier when he gives it to Kamara.
29:14And he's into the end zone.
29:16Touchdown, Saints.
29:19First score of the year for New Orleans.
29:21We hit it.
29:26We highlighted it.
29:28Alvin Kamara is still the best player on the field.
29:31And he shows that time and time again.
29:34In the run game, this guy has a thing called contact balance.
29:37And I swear this word is made up for him.
29:39Look how many missed tackles.
29:41He just runs through people.
29:42He tips toes down the sideline.
29:44It is so hard to knock him off those pretty gold cleats that he has.
29:48Mack Wilson, the new middle linebacker for the Cardinals,
29:52got absolutely lost on that play.
29:54That should have been his tackle to make.
29:56Well, now groupie on for the point after.
29:58And it's good.
29:59And it is 7-3.
30:01Saints on top.
30:03Well, they go to the guy that they've gone to more often than anybody else
30:07in the last several years.
30:10And he comes through again.
30:14Here at Once Upon a Farm, we...
30:15Orleans because of Alvin Kamara.
30:18The 1,000th scrimmage touchdown at the Superdome.
30:231,000th in team history.
30:25Tom, I might be a little young.
30:26I don't know what a scrimmage TD is.
30:28What's the difference?
30:28It's everything.
30:29It's any TD that the Saints have scored.
30:31Okay.
30:32Yeah, so you've been locked on the field for too long.
30:35We don't get that terminology in the locker room.
30:38A scrimmage TD is different than a normal TD.
30:40They would just tell you,
30:41hey, listen, don't let the receiver get into the end zone.
30:43That's it.
30:43Exactly.
30:44I got you.
30:45Well, groupie will kick it off.
30:46Dorich is back deep to receive.
30:52Di Mercado as well, and it's into the end zone
30:55and out of the back of the end zone.
30:57So now they'll move the ball out to the 30-yard line.
31:00Now streaming escape the ultimate getaway with NCIS.
31:03Tony and Ziva hunted by hackers and assassins.
31:06Good thing espionage is their love language.
31:09NCIS, Tony and Ziva now streaming on Paramount+.
31:13You know, I really don't think any special teams coordinator wants touchbacks like that when you're kicking.
31:20This is the first year where the ball goes out to the 35.
31:24You know, they're trying to kick it between the goal line and the five.
31:27They don't want it to get into the end zone in the air, but they're not.
31:30Nobody's out here trying to just hand the other team the 35-yard line.
31:33That is a massive advantage starting at the 35.
31:35It's huge.
31:37There's Benson in motion.
31:41Murray looking left.
31:43He was looking for Harrison, but instead dumps it off to Benson, and Benson trying to stay on his feet.
31:48Gets up above the 40 to the 41-yard line.
31:50Elante Taylor makes the tackle.
31:52You know, Rattler last drive was 4 for 4, 43 yards.
31:56Found his rhythm.
31:56Kyler Murray needs to do that now.
31:58They got to get going.
31:59I knew they flew in, you know, a different day.
32:01They flew in yesterday.
32:03Tried to get adjusted to all this.
32:04But they got to wake up now.
32:06Kyler Murray's got to get this offense going.
32:08They should be ahead.
32:09You want an early lead when you're a road team.
32:12Second down and four.
32:13Jonathan Gannon told us that he's adjusting all of the flights to other time zones this year.
32:20Second down off the play fake.
32:22Murray looking to throw.
32:23Murray looking long to the far side of the field.
32:25And it is caught!
32:26Marvin Harrison inside the 15-yard line.
32:31Kool-Aid McKinstry in on the coverage, and Harrison goes long.
32:36Marvin Harrison flexed those new muscles.
32:38This is the matchup.
32:40Kool-Aid versus Marvin Harrison.
32:41And they're just hand fighting.
32:43That's legal.
32:44Look at him track the ball, though.
32:45That is what gets you drafted in the top five in the NFL.
32:48He's been doing that since he was a kid.
32:50That's a beautiful throw by Kyler, by the way.
32:53Dropping it right in the bucket.
32:5545-yard pass play.
33:01They have the ball off to Benson, and Benson powers his way down to the 10.
33:05So, a gain of four.
33:09We talked about Cardinals' expectations this year.
33:12They want to take the step to be a playoff team.
33:14They have the run game in Connor.
33:16They have McBride in the tight ends.
33:17But Marvin Harrison and the explosive downfield, those type of 40-yard gains, what they need to open up this offense to the next level.
33:25Doesn't look like the 11-pound slowed him down, Logan.
33:27No, not at all.
33:28Not at all.
33:29Second and six.
33:30They need to get to the four for first down.
33:33Last year, Harrison was targeted 114 times.
33:36They wanted to be more efficient on those targets.
33:39St. Schoen blitz.
33:42They hand it off to Benson.
33:43Benson over the block of his right guard.
33:45And he gets down to the six-yard line.
33:51And now it's third down.
33:53Godchow makes the tackle.
33:56Gannon versus Staley here.
33:58Third down.
33:59They're in each other's weddings.
34:00They're each other's godparents to each other's kids.
34:04What is dialed up here?
34:06What is Staley going to dial up?
34:08Some pressure?
34:09You got to keep Kyler Murray in the pocket, though, Ross.
34:11How do you handle this?
34:12Well, there's a lot of tight ends out there.
34:14This is 14 personnel.
34:16They have four tight ends out there.
34:19Are they really going to run it and go heavy?
34:21Or is it play-action pass, but the Saints expect and run?
34:24One of those tight ends comes in motion.
34:25It's Higgins.
34:26And it's Murray who's going to keep it himself.
34:28He moves one defender and gets low down to the four.
34:31I think he's got the first down.
34:33It'll be first and goal from inside the four-yard line.
34:37That was nearly disastrous.
34:39That is what Kyler Murray does.
34:42Cam Jordan, he had to play early in the game,
34:45but he wasn't able to contain the young spry Kyler Murray on that one.
34:48And that's what makes Kyler special.
34:50These abilities right here, he's hard to tackle.
34:52He's a small guy, a little guy, but he's a shifty guy and hard to take down in space.
34:56Yeah, and Cam's like 285, 290,
34:59so that is not easy for him to try to change direction there.
35:02First and goal for the four.
35:04Three tight ends left side of the offensive line for the Cardinals.
35:07Now McBride in motion.
35:09Off the play fake.
35:09Murray under pressure.
35:11Murray trying to run away, directing traffic.
35:13And flags come in.
35:14He just throws it away.
35:15Randerson was chasing him down.
35:17And another penalty.
35:25Prior to the pass, holding.
35:28Defense number 56, half the distance of the goal in the automatic.
35:31And Demario Davis called for that penalty.
35:36So, again, it'll be first and goal.
35:38And they'll move the ball inside the two-yard line.
35:42Ironman Demario Davis here gets caught on the hold.
35:46Let's see his eyes.
35:47He sees the tight end.
35:48And, yes, he pulls that shirt.
35:50I talk about it.
35:50You can grab it.
35:51But if you pull it, that's when the refs call it.
35:55They give the ball to Connor.
35:57And Connor lowers the boom down to the one.
36:00It'll be second and goal.
36:01Demario Davis was there for the first hit.
36:04I am telling you guys,
36:06that's like the fifth or sixth serious collision already in this game.
36:11I mean, these guys are playing for keeps.
36:13This is physical, physical football.
36:16And I love it.
36:17I would say this.
36:17If you're going to run play action,
36:19this would be better than third or fourth when they're expecting it.
36:23These are the Marvin Harrison situations
36:25where I want him isolated,
36:28one-on-one, top of your screen.
36:30Give the guy a chance.
36:32Back shoulder fade.
36:35A second and goal.
36:36Murray.
36:38Left side.
36:38Pass completes.
36:41Marvin Harrison.
36:43Touchdown, Cardinals.
36:48Well, he had eight touchdowns last year,
36:50and that is number one.
36:51And it kind of quiets the crowd here at the Dome.
36:53Great play by Harrison here.
36:54I want him to fade.
36:55They run the man-beater, the mesh route.
36:57This is designed for him.
36:59This is designed for him to get involved.
37:01We saw the explosive catch downfield, the mesh route.
37:04He is part of the offense finally,
37:06and he's easily performing well early in this game.
37:09You can't give Kyler Murray that much time, too, by the way.
37:11I mean, Kool-Aid's going to struggle to stay with him,
37:13especially with the traffic there,
37:15if there's no pressure whatsoever.
37:17Kyler with the point after.
37:19And it is good,
37:20and the Cardinals are on top 10 to 7.
37:22How about Marvin Harrison?
37:24First, it was the 45-yard bomb,
37:27and then it was underneath for the score for the Cards.
37:31All right, ladies, next stop, laundry room.
37:37Big no to dryer three.
37:39Allstate, you're in good hands.
37:43And by Ram Trucks.
37:46Nothing stops Ram.
37:52Beautiful day here in New Orleans.
37:54Marvin Harrison just caught his ninth career touchdown pass,
37:58tying him with Larry Fitzgerald for the most receiving touchdowns
38:01in the first 18 games of a career in team history.
38:08Last year, he was the target.
38:10Often, he and Trey McBride inside the red zone.
38:14And now the Saints down three with 10-0-5 to play in the first half.
38:18Inside the five-yard line, it's Miller.
38:24He's got a burst of speed.
38:26Keep an eye out, and he breaks a tackle.
38:28He's out across the 40, and he's out to the 45,
38:32maybe the 46-yard line.
38:36Let's take a look at the touchdown.
38:37This is the mesh concept I explained,
38:39and all this really is is a pick and roll for the wide receiver here.
38:43You see Marvin Harrison up top,
38:44Michael Wilson number 14 highlighted down bottom.
38:47Look how he gets in the way for Marvin Harrison.
38:49That is very hard for Kool-Aid to keep up with Marvin Harrison there
38:52because people are literally setting legal screens on you
38:56as you run across the middle.
38:57What's the corner supposed to do there?
38:59Go to your D coordinator and ask for a different coverage?
39:02Give me some help.
39:03He's drinking Kool-Aid right now.
39:05On first down, they hand the ball off.
39:07They give it to Neal.
39:08And Neal gets to the 49-yard line.
39:11It's a gain of four.
39:13Saban Collins makes the tackle.
39:15All right, so let's talk about Rattler.
39:17He had a good series last time.
39:19You know, this is the no huddle again.
39:21So down three.
39:23Does he just keep on keeping on at this point?
39:27Pass underneath.
39:28Close to a first down marker for Alave.
39:30I really think, Tom, if you're a Saints fan watching Rattler,
39:34the sooner the ball gets out of his hands, the better sign that is.
39:38Right?
39:38You know he's got a good arm.
39:40You know he's mobile.
39:40But he showed a real command of this offense in the offseason.
39:44And you're seeing it on a bunch of these plays where the ball is getting out quick.
39:49And this is third and short.
39:50This is fourth down territory here.
39:52Four down territory.
39:52We got tush push.
39:53They did it last year in the Super Bowl with the Dolphs.
39:55And they do it here.
39:56And they do as flags come in.
39:57Oh, boy.
39:58Right now, it's a first down.
40:00But let's see.
40:04It's tough to master it if you're not wearing the midnight green.
40:09Offside.
40:10Offense.
40:10The left guard lined up offside.
40:12That's a five-yard penalty.
40:13Third down.
40:15So Kellen Moore learned about that play last year in Philly.
40:19You'll see Dylan Radins, the left guard.
40:22His helmet's right there.
40:23Looked like it was just a little bit past the football.
40:25Kellen Moore can't believe it.
40:29Listen, in that play, better safe than sorry.
40:33Right?
40:33Like, go a couple inches behind as far as you think you can go.
40:38Because that just gave up a big first down here.
40:40Now it's third and medium.
40:42They don't call down the Eagles often, Ross.
40:44I see those guards pretty close, too.
40:47As Cooks in motion.
40:48The pass.
40:49It's complete.
40:49And a first down.
40:51Olave.
40:52And the mark of about the 40-yard line.
40:55And Jalen tops it in on the coverage.
40:57Chris Olave is back.
40:59He's expecting a big year.
41:00And he's the number one target.
41:01He just sits down in the zone there.
41:04The Cardinals do a lot of confusing defense.
41:06And they confuse themselves on that one.
41:08All right.
41:08What happened here?
41:09He's off the field.
41:10You know, he's been battling his concussions.
41:12Made a heck of a catch there.
41:15Ready, reset.
41:17Cooks in motion.
41:18They give it to Neal.
41:19And Neal moving the pile down inside the 35 to the 34-yard line.
41:27I like some of these zone reads that the Saints are using.
41:30Because they ran the ball twice with Rattler, the Cardinals are having the honor.
41:35Rattler potentially pulling the ball and taking it.
41:37And look at Olave on the sideline here.
41:39He's being helped by the training staff.
41:40Yeah.
41:40Popping up the 10.
41:41Yep.
41:42Blue 10 is popping up.
41:43Boom.
41:44Toss it again.
41:45And they give it to Jawan Johnson, the tight end.
41:49And he gets down to the 31-yard line at a Glassboro High School in South Jersey.
41:54Oh, yeah.
41:54It's a Jersey boy.
41:55This Jersey on Jersey crime.
41:57Because Max Mountain's from Rutgers.
41:58And he saws that knee.
42:00That's exactly what you're supposed to do.
42:01Jawan Johnson doesn't have his hurdle game quite like McBride does yet.
42:05But he's a big fella.
42:07That's how you chop down a tree at corner.
42:09Olave was back in.
42:10Now he's popped out again.
42:12Probably the most physical tackle I've ever seen by a Rutgers DB title.
42:16Oh, wow.
42:18A third down.
42:20Right here.
42:20What's that?
42:24Hand it off to Miller.
42:25Miller breaks a few tackles.
42:26Inside the 25.
42:27Cuts to the left before he's wrapped up by Jalen Thompson.
42:33Isn't it unbelievable?
42:35Kendra Miller runs like Alvin Kamara, but he dresses like him, too.
42:39The turf tape.
42:40The helmet.
42:41But he's inspired by his starting back.
42:42And he fights for that third down conversion there.
42:45Garrett Williams has got to make that tackle.
42:47I know he was fighting off the left guard, Dylan Radins.
42:50But that's Garrett Williams, who the Arizona Cardinals are very high on.
42:54That's his play to make, number 21.
42:56And there's Olave.
42:56He is officially back in the game.
42:58That's a great sign on first down.
43:00Yellow 80.
43:01Yellow 80.
43:02We're good.
43:03We'll hand the ball off again.
43:06Miller looked like he was fumbling it for a moment, but got it back.
43:09But he's down at the 22-yard line.
43:10A little short gain.
43:12Mack Wilson makes the tackle.
43:14As a Saints fan, you've got to be ecstatic with this start by Spencer Rattler, right?
43:18He looks under control.
43:19This is a brand-new offense.
43:21He went 0-6 last year.
43:23You drafted a quarterback in the second round.
43:25But like I said, he has a chip on his shoulder, and he's really matured.
43:28When we met with him, he seemed really poised, and he was excited that Kelly Moore was giving this opportunity.
43:32Remember, we had our meeting with everybody else.
43:34He and Shuck were down on the practice field, taking extra reps, trying to get themselves sharpened even more.
43:40While everybody else was in the locker room.
43:42On the second down, a little less than nine.
43:44He avoids the one.
43:46Now rolls to his right, throws it away.
43:51Let's check in with Tiffany for more on Spencer Rattler.
43:53Yeah, guys.
43:54Well, Coach Kelly Moore did tell us that he was really impressed by the way that Rattler responded to that adversity he faced last season.
44:01He was made, obviously, well aware of it.
44:03And so what Rattler told us was that getting thrown into the fire early really helped him.
44:08And having to be in different schemes and adjust to the different lineups, it only made him better.
44:13And he feels like he's really grown from it, guys.
44:17Well, we got another penalty against the Saints.
44:19That penalty will be declined.
44:20It is declined.
44:21And Tiffany's right.
44:22I mean, you could see even Kellen Moore talking about the confidence.
44:26And you could see it in his face, the way he was discussing Rattler.
44:29He really said that he's a guy that can win now.
44:33You know, I thought he did a great job in camp.
44:36He improved.
44:37And he gives us the best chance to win now.
44:39That was his reason for starting Rattler.
44:41So third down and eight after they declined the penalty.
44:45And Rattler, pressure's coming.
44:46Throws underneath.
44:47Pass is complete.
44:48He's well shy of the first down.
44:52Garrett Wilson was there in the coverage of Olave.
44:56I'm not sure I understand that route combination right there, Logan.
44:59Third and eight, and you throw a three-yard hitch.
45:02It's not going to get it done.
45:03Rattler's been efficient in rhythm, but they have not tested the Cardinals downfield yet.
45:09He's got to get a little more comfortable and start testing these DBs.
45:11Yeah, eight of 11 so far, 65 yards.
45:14They play it safe.
45:15A 36-yard field goal attempt by Groupie.
45:24Broker is the holder.
45:25Good snap.
45:26Good hold.
45:26And it is good.
45:27Right down the middle, and we are tied up at 10.
45:30Less than five minutes to play here in the first half.
45:33It's the Cardinals 10 and the Saints 10.
45:36He's playing well.
45:43He's playing well.
45:47You cannot be upset if you're a Saints fan.
45:5010-10 right now.
45:51You would take this.
45:53Yeah, it looks like he's also got an understanding of the offense.
45:56I think you talked about that.
45:57Tiffany mentioned that as well.
46:00You guys both talked about that.
46:08Di Mercado is going to try to return this one.
46:10It's across the 20 to 25.
46:12It's up to the 29-yard line.
46:14Saturday, it's once again big time at 3.30 Eastern when USC hits the road to take on Purdue.
46:21We'll get you set for kickoff beginning at 2.30 with college football today.
46:25The Big Ten is on CBS and Paramount+.
46:28I love that Gary Danielson in his last year as the CBS college football analyst gets to go back to his alma mater.
46:37Gary, just unbelievable career.
46:39Can't even begin to guess.
