Prime Minister Stuart Young is pledging better protection for women and children under a re-elected PNM government.

He was speaking to PNM supporters at the party's Women's Forum in Bournes Road, St. James last night.

00:00If given the opportunity to lead a third consecutive term in government,
00:04Prime Minister Stuart Young says the PNM will work harder to increase the protection of the nation's women and children.
00:11You see, gender-based violence, gender-based violence of both intimate and non-intimate partners
00:20is something that this PNM government is committed to working on
00:27and to providing better protection for our women and children.
00:32With four days to go before heading to the polls, Prime Minister Young tells the population
00:36while they have increased the number of safe houses and transition homes for the most vulnerable in society,
00:43there are other initiatives he hopes to roll out if elected into office come Monday.
00:48We are also going to be increasing the electric monitoring unit
00:52and its ability to put the ankle bracelets on those who offend against our women.
00:59We're going to be strengthening the laws to protect our women.
01:02He says social services like grant support will be made easier to access,
01:08saying he has listened to the people and he knows the stress many face in trying to receive state assistance.
01:14We reform the food and disability grant system.
01:19This will better your lives.
01:21This will give you the access to be able to help your families.
01:26And when someone in your family gets a temporary job,
01:31it does not mean that the family is going to lose access to the food card or the disability grant.
