00:00The PNM has responded to Prime Minister Kamala Posada's strongly worded criticism of the opposition party.
00:06The PNM said, quote, before the Prime Minister dares to accuse anyone of corruption or criminal ties,
00:13she should first look in the mirror and confront the rot within her own ranks, end quote.
00:20The PNM said it condemns outright what it called the Prime Minister's disgraceful and unfounded claim
00:26that the People's National Movement is a party long suspected of being financed by the local drug mafia.
00:34The PNM then said, quote, this is a malicious lie and a gross abuse of her office.
00:40Without a shred of evidence, she has tried to smear the PNM in the context of drug trafficking, end quote.
00:47Prime Minister Posada-Bissessa launched her verbal attack against the PNM in a statement on Friday
00:52in which she referenced the Foreign Ministry statement that the USS Gravely DDG-107 will visit Trinidad and Tobago
01:01from October 26th to 30th, mooring in Port of Spain,
01:06while the 22nd U.S. Marine Expeditionary Unit will conduct joint training exercises
01:11with the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force during the same period.
01:15The PNM said this is not the first time a United States naval asset has visited Trinidad and Tobago
01:21and added that such visits have been routine on the successive governments
01:26as part of long-standing security cooperation.
01:30However, the opposition party noted, quote,
01:32What makes this particular visit deeply concerning is the timing.
01:37It comes during a period of extreme regional tension with Venezuela
01:41and heightened anxiety among our citizens.
01:44Instead of offering clarity, the Prime Minister has refused to address the nation
01:50or explain her government's erratic, isolationist, anti-Karicom foreign policy, end quote.
01:57The PNM acknowledged that in December 2024, the U.S. Department of Defence renewed
02:03and amended the Status of Forces Agreement, or SOFA, with Trinidad and Tobago
02:08under a PNM administration.
02:10The PNM said, quote,
02:12This continued long-standing cooperation under the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative
02:17Technical Assistance Field Team and the Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement.
02:22These agreements were first established by the PNM in 2007
02:26to strengthen national and regional security through genuine partnership, not politics, end quote.
02:33The PNM said, quote,
02:34This latest tirade is nothing more than a diversion from public unease
02:39over her government's lack of consultation
02:41in the rushed appointment of a new Chief Justice, end quote.
02:44The PNM then declared that, quote,
02:47At a time when citizens are demanding answers on job losses,
02:51rising hardship and economic instability,
02:54the Prime Minister has chosen personal attacks over leadership, end quote.
