00:00The Indoo Women's Organization is extending congratulations to Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bassassar as she commences her second term of office.
00:10The organization believes Passat-Bassassar has shown herself to be a strong, resilient and determined force for change and progress and says it is their belief that under her government there will be respect and support for all without reference to race or religion.
00:28She has been here before. She has experience. And to whom much is given, much is expected. We all look on with bated breaths to see her choice of cabinet. We, the population, will judge their competencies and then wait for their actions.
00:57The group is also taking the opportunity to lobby the incoming government to review laws on domestic and intimate partner violence so that more practical protection can be provided for both women and children.
01:11The organization is urging the Prime Minister and her government to work together with national and faith-based women's organizations.
01:18The Hindu Women's Organization has been involved in the Marriage Act, where we got a change to girls being married at the age of 18.
01:33Currently, we are pursuing the inclusion of the female profession in the Hindu marriage certificate because it's not there.
01:47And we started that process with the former legal affairs minister and we hope that when the new one is sworn in, that we could continue with this effort to get it into law.
02:06The HWOTT is also congratulating Mrs. Penelope Beckles-Robinson on her appointment as leader of the opposition and extending commendations to President Christine Kangaloo.
02:20The organization says now that Trinidad and Tobago has three women of substance at its helm, it is hoped that they will lead the country in the right direction.
