00:00PNM General Council member Jennifer Batiste Primus says party principles were deviated
00:06from when the PNM parliamentary caucus selected Stuart Young as the country's next prime minister.
00:12I would like to point out that that arm is not the most senior body of the party.
00:23The superior body of the party is the convention.
00:28The constitution, however, gives the general council the authority in between meetings
00:38of the convention.
00:40And Dr. Rowley, she says, ought to have taken note from Canada's prime minister, Justin
00:44Trudeau, who's also stepping down, but is allowing his party to select their next leader.
00:50If he is not taking us into the 2025 general election, he has a responsibility to step
01:02aside.
01:03He has a responsibility to step aside and to allow the party to engage in its constitutional
01:15processes to ensure that we have a new political leader in office by the end of March, who
01:23will lead the party into the 2025 general election.
01:29She says the prime minister has taken a back-to-front approach.
01:33Anything less than that is a manipulation of the PNM constitution and a denial of every
01:44single member's right to choose to elect a leader of his or her choice.
01:52And there's a likely reason why.
01:55He knows, the political leader knows quite well that Stuart does not enjoy that popularity
02:03in the membership and that is one of the reasons he cancelled the internal election, he cancelled
02:09the convention.
