We dive into the open water where T&T will be represented by 17 year old Ava Charles in the 5k Open Water event.

This will be her first CARIFTA Games and she too is hoping to win gold. The Blue Lightning Aquatics swimmer started swimming in 2023 and she is looking forward to the event.

00:11The Blue Lightning Aquatic Swimmer started swimming in 2023 and is looking forward to the event.
00:18I'm quite excited. I'm feeling very prepared. I trust that my coaches' breakouts and everything will have me prepared to win a gold medal.
00:26All right. In terms of your preparation, how have you been preparing for this event?
00:33Well, we do open waters on Sunday and our coaches have been upping the distance in the pool.
00:38Okay. Why did you choose open water as opposed to pool swimming?
00:43Well, I just, I don't know. I like open water more. I find it's, I find the atmosphere is less tense.
00:51Holly Young Swimmer believes a strong mental game will set her apart from her competitors.
00:59Probably just the mental aspect of it. When you get tired, certain things can get in your head really easily.
01:05So that may affect your race. So it's just kind of keep a clear mind, keep calm and rely on your training.
