00:00Speaking after the Maracas Open Water Swim, Marina Martinez, who defended her adult 5,000 meter title and also won
00:07the adult 1,000 meter female crown, said she was happy with the swim.
00:12Me, personally, I find the water was rough because how we started the race and what time we started, but
00:19overall it was a very good race and it was good enough for me to swim and did my best.
00:25I feel very good because when I came here today, I did what I had to do and I made
00:31my parents proud and my whole family proud because they came to support me.
00:36Terrell Celestin matched her accomplishment on the men's side, capturing both the adult 1,000 meter and 5,000 meter
00:42male titles.
00:43I wouldn't say it was difficult. It was perfect conditions in terms of my upcoming race and CAC games. So
00:52it was perfect conditions to give a chance on what I'll be expecting.
00:57President of the Aquatic Sports Association of TNT, Sean Poucher, says it was great to see the event come together.
01:03We were up here as a team over the last two, three days and the weather and the conditions were
01:08a lot clearer and calmer, but that's the nature of the sport.
01:11Open water is all about, you know, you never know what you're going to get and you have to be
01:15prepared.
01:15So we took it as whatever it is. You know, the first race this morning had it the easiest and
01:20which was the best, which is why we did it that way.
01:22So that the 500 meters for the amateur swimmers would have been the best conditions for them and they would
01:28have had an easier time.
01:29I mean, the more experienced swimmers would have navigated well over the 3K, 5K.
01:33Oh man, I'm amazed. Two weeks ago, we sold out on this event and the encouragement that we've gotten from
01:41our sponsors and the encouragement we've gotten from the swimming fraternity on this, it only has room to grow and
01:47keep on growing for the sport of open water.
01:50We have big plans for open water in Trinidad and Tobago, possibly putting on events similar to this in Tobago.
01:56Sponsored of the competition, Subway also looked back at the race with a sense of accomplishment.
02:02As of right now, I'm very pleased and very satisfied with how things have gone, from being sold out to
02:08all with the registration to having a wonderful event.
02:11We have the Pro VQRC Steel Orchestra here again, which is also sponsored by Subway. We have wonderful participation.
