00:00When a boxer finds a rhythm, there are a few things that fall into place.
00:04In the eyes of boxing greats, they develop their own characteristic bounce,
00:08their jab becomes sharper, and there's a glow of optimism between coach and athlete.
00:13If the signs prove to be true, boxer Tiana Guy is finding her groove
00:17just in time for the CSC Games, set to begin July 24th.
00:22I think the first CSC Games I went to, I was really, really new.
00:27I only had like four or five fights.
00:30So a lot of it I don't remember.
00:32My second CSC Games was more seasoned, and this one, I am excited
00:36because I feel like I have matured more as a fighter, as a woman,
00:42just as an individual on the whole.
00:44So I'm just excited to see that transformation happen in the ring.
00:50She has found herself in the right mental space after meeting a sports psychologist.
00:54I have this tendency when it comes to fighting persons
00:58of a probably lower standard than myself.
01:01I sort of bring myself down to their standard.
01:04Unknown, like unconsciously, it's just like I'm faster than this person,
01:08but for some reason I just unconsciously bring my speed down.
01:12So through work with Amanda, we were able to figure out what was even for the problem,
01:17adjust it.
01:18So that's why, as I said, Laila, the CSC Games,
01:20I'm actually really, really excited to see the performance.
01:23Guy believes that this time she is in contention for a medal.
01:27My objective is, my main objective has always been to ensure that whatever I do in training,
01:34I execute in the fight.
01:35Another objective is to stay mentally there in the fight,
01:40meaning like keep my focus level, listen to my corner, the tactical plan.
01:47Another objective is not to be as emotional,
01:50meaning not to respond or react out of emotions when you fight.
01:54I always try to keep a level head and make smart tactical decisions.
01:58That's only training part of things.
01:59And I believe that I am of the level now where I should be aiming for a medal at CSC
02:06Games.
02:07She believes that doing well at CSC is key in her build-up towards the 2028 Olympics.
02:12For now, though, Guy is prepared to take it one step at a time,
02:16one punch at a time, one punch at a time, and one contract at a time.
02:2149-4, TV's export.
