Former international cricket commentator Dr. Joseph 'Reds' Perreira believes outgoing West Indies Test coach Andre Coley should not be forgotten by Cricket West Indies.

Dr. Perreira has lauded the team for drawing the Test series in Pakistan, while also praising Coley for doing his part.

As such, the St. Lucia-based cricket analyst wants Coley to be given a new post and not discarded.

00:00It was a proud moment in West Indies cricket when the men in Maroon beat
00:03Pakistan in the second and final test in Multan by 120 runs to level the series
00:08at 1-1. Among those delighted with the display is cricket analyst Dr. Joseph
00:13Reds Pereira. According to Dr. Pereira, outgoing coach Andrew Coley is an
00:17unsung hero who played his part in the team's success. He arrived in Pakistan
00:22knowing that when the last ball is bowled in the series that will be his
00:26end of his tenure with the West Indies test team. But he put that all behind him,
00:32was able to overcome the bad defeat in the first test, worked on the mental game,
00:39worked tactically also in the nets no doubt as a build-up to the second test.
00:45And I think he got the players believing if they made the adjustments they can
00:52cope with Pakistan. Well they out-bowled them and out-batted them.
00:57Coley will be replaced by Darren Sammy as the new test coach which means that the
01:01St. Lucian will be responsible for all three formats. Dr. Pereira believes
01:05Coley still has a big part to play in West Indies cricket and should therefore
01:09not be ignored. He managed to tie the series in Pakistan, he had a victory over
01:15Australia and my own feeling is that he must be kept into the system and to keep
01:21him in the system and make it productive I think he should be given
01:27the under-19 squad and the under-23 squad to prepare as a feeder to the
01:36national teams in the four-day etc and to the test squad. Regarding Sammy
01:43taking over as all-format coach, Dr. Pereira hopes the former West Indies
01:48cricketer can make a difference. Sammy was able to win two T20 World Cup titles
01:53but as captain of the West Indies in 2012 and 2016. Dr. Pereira says it's left
01:59to be seen if Sammy can get the desired results in test matches. The hope of the
02:04West Indies board and they clearly have said this that they're hoping that
02:08Darren Sammy will be able to attract the likes of Hope, likes of King, the likes of
02:14Holder, the likes of Rutherford etc away from the white ball game and have a
02:21commitment to the red ball game. If that is achieved by Sammy our team will look
02:27very different but very stronger. The West Indies will host Australia for
02:33three tests later this year as part of the new WTC cycle. Vinod Naoni, TV6 Sport.
