Cricket analyst Fazeer Mohammed has given the West Indies the edge in the upcoming ODI and T20 series against hosts Bangladesh.

The ODI series bowls off on Saturday in Mirpur, and according to Mohammed, captain Shai Hope and his men appear to be gelling well following their hard-fought second Test against India in Delhi, a contest the Indians eventually won.
Transcript
00:01The last time the West Indies met Bangladesh in the ODI format, it was a handsome 3-0 win for the men in Maroon in 2024 in the Caribbean.
00:09Added to that, the Windies recently had a 2-1 win at home in the 50-over version against Pakistan, with all matches taking place in Terubah.
00:17On the other hand, Bangladesh were recently swept 3-0 by Afghanistan in a one-day series in the UAE.
00:23Both Bangladesh and the Caribbean men will face off in three ODIs in Mirpur, and cricket analyst Fazir Mohamed gives the Windies a slender edge.
00:32The Westerners will feel reasonably confident going into this series.
00:36Not so much because of the test series, that's a very different format.
00:39They lost 2-0 but played reasonably better in the second test match, but more for the fact that the one-day team seems to be gelling a bit better.
00:49The players that they now have available to them, I actually hope the captain has just come off a test match 100, his first for 8 years.
00:56There should be a measure of confidence in the West Indies team, and they'll certainly back themselves to get the better of Bangladesh.
01:03In Bangladesh, even though you would expect Bangladesh to be much more competitive at home in their own conditions,
01:11in Mirpur, for those 3-1 internationals than they were taking on Afghanistan in the UAE.
01:17Having said that, Mohamed has respect for the men in green, who, unlike the Windies, took part in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.
01:26Added to that, he says there are quality players in the Bangladesh squad.
01:30Talking about who the Westerners have to look out for, well, Soumya Saka returns to the Bangladesh team.
01:36One of their more experienced players.
01:38He missed out on the series against Afghanistan in the UAE because of visa issues.
01:42They again have experienced seamers of the likes of Taskeen Ahmed and Mustafi Zorrahman.
01:48Their spinners are again at the forefront with the captain, Mehdi Hassan Miraz, leading the way.
01:54And their batters are, of course, far more comfortable in their road conditions.
01:58And therefore, you would expect them to put up a much more decent challenge with those players, and again, with home support.
02:05In the T20 format, Bangladesh swept the Windies 3-0 in the Caribbean and also beat Afghanistan by a similar margin in the UAE recently.
02:14Once again, Mohamed is not taking the home team lightly because of the unpredictable nature of the format.
02:20However, he gives Shehope and his men the edge.
02:23I do see the West Indies prevailing in both the one-days and the T20s.
02:28With the players they have available, if they are motivated enough to represent the West Indies
02:33and really earn the team the necessary points in the ODIs and the build-up to the T20 World Cup,
02:38which is just a few months away, and players jockeying and jostling for positions in the squads
02:44for those particular tournaments, especially the 2026 T20 World Cup,
02:49I expect the West Indies really firing, if not on all cylinders, well enough to be able to get the better of Bangladesh
02:56in both the one-day series, which is first up, and then the T20s by margins of 2-1.
03:03The ODIs in Mirapur are on October 18th, 21st and 23rd,
03:08and the T20s are on October 27th, 29th and 31st in Chateau Grom.
03:15Vinod Nawani, Chiefs Export.
