Former cricket commentator Dr. Joseph 'Reds' Perreira believes the West Indies batters must show more discipline to give their team a chance of levelling the Test series in Pakistan.

The second and final Test starts Saturday in Multan, which also hosted the opening game.

In an interview with TV6, Dr. Perreira calls for a couple changes, including the omission of opening batsman Mikyle Louis.

00:00The West Indies are in a must-win situation going into the second and final test against
00:04Pakistan in Multan. Having lost by a huge 123 runs in the opener in three days, there
00:09is someone calling for a couple changes to be made. He's none other than St. Lucia-based
00:13cricket analyst Dr. Joseph Retz-Pereira.
00:16I will definitely expect that Django, who should have played in the first test, will
00:22definitely come in place of Carty, and I will not in fact cause further damage to his confidence
00:31psychologically to Louis by playing him again. He can always come back, he's a young man,
00:38the challenge for a test player. To pick from what we have, I'll ask De Silva to open with
00:46Braffet. So my opening pair will be Braffet and De Silva with Django batting somewhere
00:54in number 5 to make his debut.
00:57Dr. Pereira says the West Indies cricketers must show more fight and discipline and choose
01:02their shots wisely going into the match. He's disappointed some of the batters threw away
01:07their wickets in the opening match in which the Pakistani spinners took all 20 wickets.
01:11Yes, the ball was spinning, but you had to graft, you had to fight, you had to try and
01:17build partnerships, stay in the middle, and many of our batsmen, including the captain,
01:24going for a rash shot in the first innings, ball down through the huge gate, second innings
01:30looking quite solid, then goes for a shot from outside the off the over mid wicket.
01:37We can't have that kind of rash approaches in conditions which are favouring the bowlers
01:46so much.
01:47According to the former cricket commentator, the conditions in the opening test should
01:51have taught the West Indies batters to make adjustments for Game 2. After all, that match
01:56is also being played at the same venue.
01:58The good thing about the second test is that they will be fully aware of the turning pitch,
02:05the bounce, they'll be fully aware of the various bowlers who are bowling the arm ball,
02:14who's turning the wrist over to turn the other way. They've got to use the whole experience
02:22and try and bat the overs. So we really need to be able to bat three sessions if that is
02:30possible.
02:31In the opening test, Gautakesh Moti took two wickets, whereas Jomel Warrican grabbed 10.
02:36Dr. Perera feels if both come good together in Game 2, that is a big plus.
02:42Well I think the key is the kind of performance we can get out of Moti. I mean Warrican was
02:49brilliant, nagging length, hard to get away, really working on the patience of the Pakistanis.
02:57I think Moti was disappointing. Possibly too much of white ball cricket, he was bowling
03:03much too quickly, bowling darts. He's got to bowl much slower, give it a little more
03:10air and get the equivalent turn. Moti and Warrican are key to West Indies doing well.
03:19The last time both teams met in the Caribbean in 2021, the series ended 1-1, which is the
03:25best result the West Indies can now aim for in this series.
