00:00With Craig Brathwaite stepping down as West Indies Test captain, many would be
00:04wondering who should take over the leadership of the Red Bull team. Cricket
00:08analyst Dr. Joseph Reds Pereira says there are not many options and explains
00:13why he would not go for certain players. I don't believe King has the experience
00:18he doesn't lead Jamaica although he is a batting talent. Certainly I would not be
00:26going back to Jason Holder and I don't feel that although Chase is in fact a
00:32good cricketer he's not maybe a natural leader of men. Brathwaite led the Windies
00:38to a 1-1 draw in Pakistan earlier this year which saw the men in maroon
00:41finishing a disappointing eighth out of nine teams in the last World Test
00:45Championship cycle. So who is the right person to lead the regional side? My
00:50choice would be a very simple one. I'll use the same format that they've used
00:55to name Darren Sammy as the all-format coach and I would simply apply it to
01:06Shai Hope and I would make him the all-format captain. Why Hope one may ask
01:12since he averages 25.01 from 38 matches. According to Dr. Pereira the 31-year-old
01:20has many good qualities. He is our best batsman. I know his test record is not
01:26great but you can see he's got quality in his batsmanship. He's got a good head
01:32on his shoulders and I think that he can become a good leader of men. He is well
01:39respected within the region. He is well respected internationally. Hope last
01:44played a test for the West Indies in 2021 scoring 22 and 16 in a losing
01:50cause against hosts Sri Lanka.
