00:00Minority leader Kelvin Morris said Chief Secretary Farley Augustine bears
00:05significant responsibility for Monday's outcome. He says through political
00:10maneuvering and a lack of unity he placed the final dagger into these bills
00:15ensuring their failure and his actions will forever be a stain on Tobago's
00:20quest for autonomy. Mr. Morris said Monday marks a deeply
00:25disappointing moment for Tobago. After decades of consultations, discussions
00:30and debates involving Tobegonians from all walks of life, the hope for greater
00:35self-governance has been dashed by the opposition UNC whose actions reflect
00:41nothing more than political self-interest and servitude to their own
00:46agendas. Morris said what remains in the aftermath of their rejection is the same
00:52outdated Tobago House of Assembly Act 40 of 1996, an act that everyone including
00:58the opposition agrees is inadequate and a hindrance to Tobago's development and
01:04aspirations. To Tobegonians he said he understands the frustration, the
01:10heartbreak and the disappointment they feel but is encouraging them not to give
01:16up hope. Morris said quote this is not the end of a fight, we live to dream
01:22another day. Together we will continue to push for the respect, autonomy and
01:27governance that Tobago deserves. He then commended members of Parliament of the
01:33People's National Movement government for standing firm in support of both
01:37bills and for successfully passing the Tobago Island government bill. This he
01:43said demonstrates the party's unwavering commitment to Tobago's
01:48autonomy efforts. Elizabeth Williams TV6 News
