00:00Crime in Tobago is really out of hand and it requires drastic action at this point in time.
00:06It requires all hands on deck and therefore I am willing and I look forward with
00:13anticipation that we can really have some actions and some deliverables that would
00:20lead to a reduction in crime on the island. Minority leader Kelvin Morris says he remains
00:25hopeful that this meeting would yield results as previous crime meetings served as window dressing.
00:33On Wednesday, joint patrols of police officers and soldiers were observed throughout malls
00:39and on the streets. The question the public is asking is, would these joint patrols be sustained?
00:47As the last time we met, there was no meaningful action coming out from it.
00:54There was a lot of promises but not much was done. So, as part of my request to the chief
01:00secretary for us to meet, I indicated that we should include all the security forces as well
01:07as other stakeholders who are from the private sector etc. Morris says a shooting occurred
01:13recently near his parents' home. He laments that the face of Tobago has changed. Well, what it
01:21suggests is that at this point in time, the Tobago that we grew up to and the Tobago that we knew
01:28is no longer the same Tobago that exists at this time and the fact that, you know, no community
01:36at this point in time seems to be immune from criminal activity, as you know, just a couple
01:42weeks ago right in front of the gap of my parents and there was a shooting that could have involved
01:49innocent bystanders. Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
