A 43-year-old unemployed single father of three was arrested on Tuesday night, following a video which showed a man holding a knife while abusing a young boy.

When our reporter Cindy Raghubar-Teekersingh visited the community of Marac Village, Moruga on Wednesday, villagers were happy with the action taken by police.

They say the child is often abused by his father, but they believe because someone was able to capture this incident on video and share it online, that it was finally taken seriously by police.

00:00A great sense of relief has washed over the southernmost coastline village of Marak Moruga,
00:07hours after police intervened to arrest an abusive father and remove three young boys
00:12from the home. Residents of Marak village believe while in state custody, the children
00:18are in much better hands. On Tuesday, a video circulated online of a man being physically
00:24and verbally abusive towards a child while armed with a knife. TV6 News understands
00:29that a neighbour contacted the police on Tuesday afternoon after witnessing and recording the
00:34incident around 9pm on Monday. By 9pm on Tuesday, personnel from the Children's Authority and
00:41TTPS's Special Victims Department proceeded to the community where the 43-year-old suspect
00:47was detained and taken into police custody, while his three sons ages 9, 7 and 5 years
00:54old were taken out of the home by the Children's Authority for safekeeping. When we visited
00:59the quiet rural community today, residents expressed disgust over the level of violence
01:05seen on the video, but say sadly, this wasn't the first time.
01:35The 3 minute and 20 second long video shared online was just part of an ordeal that neighbours
01:45estimate lasted for more than an hour.
02:05Mr Edwards says while he did not immediately intervene, he was forced to get involved when
02:16his own children's safety was threatened. He says it's wanting for people to question
02:21why it wasn't reported sooner, but sometimes these types of reports are not treated with
02:27urgency.
02:53How did you feel seeing the police come last night?
02:57Real proud about it. Everybody was glad because we fed up in the neighbourhood as I was saying.
03:03There's something going on right through over and over.
03:07Residents say hopefully the children will now receive better care and the attention
03:12they deserve after the lives they've had to endure so far, adding that a few years ago
03:18their mother was murdered. She was strangled and stabbed to death. Investigations are ongoing.
