Better to reach late, than to take someone’s life.
This was the message sent to drivers, by the teenaged granddaughter of a 65 year old Claxton Bay woman who was fatally hit by a panel van in Marabella on Tuesday afternoon.

The teenager was with her grandmother and witnessed the horrific accident.

Standing alongside her grandfather at their home on Wednesday, she recounted the ordeal.

00:09to take a maxi-taxi in Marabella to head to their home in Claxton Bay when tragedy struck.
00:16Speaking to reporters at their home on Wednesday, the 17-year-old granddaughter said they had just eaten doubles nearby
00:24and was about to make their way across Market Street.
00:27Me and my uncle were crossing, she just had about two footsteps behind me and she had a black car
00:35coming in too and them delivery van at the Pano van.
00:43And like the two of them trying to fit on the rush and the Pano van had a scratchy black
00:48car.
00:48He just slammed on the gas and hit she.
00:51She whole body just fell into the railing and as she, according to the ground, she just bleed out.
00:58Police reports indicated a 0.14 man, while driving a Pano van, swerved to avoid hitting an unknown vehicle and
01:07lost control, then collided with the victim.
01:10The granddaughter, standing next to her grandfather, said the death hasn't fully registered yet as they're still mostly in shock
01:19that a woman so able, without ailments, who still cares daily for her family, could be taken away in such
01:28a manner.
01:28Only two weeks ago, she celebrated her 46th wedding anniversary and a surprise birthday party for her in September was
01:37already being planned.
01:38Me and she get along real good.
01:41You see eye to eye.
01:43Everything will be just a beautiful woman towards me because I had a triple bypass surgery.
01:49Every morning she used to take all the tablets.
01:52She handled the whole family perfect.
01:54No complain about that.

01:59Drivers, they say, need to be more aware when on the nation's roads as their actions have the potential to

02:08We had to be more careful.
02:11Better you reach late than you take somebody's lifestyle.
