Cyclists from this part of the world are all set for a busy October.

That's because the Tobago International Cycling Classic is on, followed by Cycling On the Avenue.

The launch took place earlier today at Mike's Bikes in Woodbrook.

00:00It's that time of the year again where cycling fans from this part of the world are sure
00:04to be licking their lips.
00:06That's because the Tobago International Cycling Classic is on from October 1st to the 6th.
00:11Promoter Jeff Charles says this event has to actually compete against some of the more
00:15popular sports.
00:17We here in Trinidad, Michael and myself and some others, we are trying our best to keep
00:23this sport on the front burner.
00:26It's not easy, since COVID, sponsorship has been scarce, but we're still fighting along.
00:36And I want to say, Michael, we're going to have a good year this year.
00:39We are back on to five stages.
00:42And where will the cyclists be coming from to compete in the prestigious Tobago event?
00:46We have some Europeans, we have some Americans, we have some Canadians, we have some South
00:51Americans.
00:52We have a good mix.
00:53I'm not what I would like it to be.
00:56I got spoiled.
00:57Because we normally have, like, you know, individual one, 75, 80 cyclists.
01:03This year, probably about 40, 45.
01:06The cycling on the avenue then takes place on October 9th from 7pm.
01:10The school's duathlon will be the curtain raiser, since promoter Michael Phillips is
01:14also interested in helping the future generation the best way he can.
01:18I think many people look forward to that, and we wanted to create an opportunity for
01:22the kids that are involved in multi-sport to have a really large audience to be able
01:27to perform in front of.
01:29We think the big lights and the bright lights and that sort of stuff really is another component,
01:34especially for those that will be going on to things like Currifter Games, to be able
01:39to have a big day under their belt, so that it's easier for them to manage race day chitters.
01:46Phillips is also concerned that no one else is trying to get into promoting cycling events,
01:51and wonders what will happen when he retires.
01:53Vinod, now on it, heaves export.
